The thing with Coppola's movies: you cannot deny its greatness and brilliance and utter epic, and it's easy to be appreciative of that fact, but it is impossible to really embrace his films as one of my favourites. Every scene, every inch of this movie has the quality of a truly great movie- the cast, the dialogue, the directing. It is an epic classic which holds your attention but to be rightfully called "the best film of all-time" it should at least hold a certain significance, which it didn't to me. It probably deserves a higher score, if only for the legendary performances of Brando and Pacino, but really, if there is one movie that has been overhyped it must be The Godfather, and it has not earned the right to be called the greatest movie ever- it just does not live up to the hype.
A great movie about obsession and dwelling in the past and finding purpose in purposelessness, in a way. The film shows a very unique, yet realistic side of dealing with the death of a loved one. A truly fascinating film with a great, underappreciated cast. And the soundtrack is not too shabby either, might I add.
