| Let me say that my favorite movies tend to be the thrill rides. Also, I have absolutely no idea on how to critique a movie. I just know how they make me feel. If they make me feel good, then they are good to me. Period. |

Star Wars: The Clone Wars
PG
I'd like for George Lucas to prove that he is more than a one and a half trick pony. Star Wars is a dead franchise and the only thing that could bring it back to life is to make it darker and to move beyond the need to make it appealing to children. This movie doesn't know what it wants to be: On the one hand you have soldiers being decapitated and crushed (not for kids) and on the other hand you have the Jedi bouncing through all of this cracking one-liners that only children would find funny..........and even that isn't so because no children laughed in the theater.
The movie has some wonderful cinematography that outshines even that of the live action films, but beyond that it is the same old, same old. If you aren't really into it, then skip this one.
Tropic Thunder
R
This movie is crude, macabre and politically incorrect.............but it is also the funniest movie that I've seen in the theaters since I don't know when. The trailers trick you into believing that Robert Downey Jr. as a black man is the comic backbone of this film. Robert is GREAT, but believe me when I tell you EVERYBODY in the lead roles were VERY funny...........even the guys who may not be familiar to you. This one is not for the kiddies though.
Mad Money
PG-13
I believe this was supposed to be a comedy but there were no laugh out loud moments. Just a few light chuckles. Why do I say that? Well, had the movie not taken itself so seriously and been a goofy romp (which might've worked better) instead of an unbelievable heist movie, we would accept the way-too-perfect ending. You might have to watch "Set it off" to get the bad taste out of your mouth, but you could do a lot worse.
College Road Trip
G
A great family film. Teenagers may have a hard time with it as it is extremely............Disney.
The Bank Job
R
This movie is based on a true story and oddly enough, turns out to be somewhat of a "feel good" movie. I found it very entertaining, but there are two major flaws: One is that all of the characters are English and if you are unfamiliar with cockney slang you may want to turn your subtitles on. Two, is that you never really get the sense that anyone is truly in danger..............but of course they are.

PG-13
"Fast Eddie" Felson from "The Color of Money" (one of my all time faves) once said, "Money won is twice as sweet as money earned", and this movie demonstrates that theory. We see a very shy geek of a guy who is smart enough to be chosen by his professor to learn to count cards, take trips to Vegas and clean up, but he is still naive enough to not fully understand the nature of those he is in business with. What he learns about the ruthlessness of people is the most significant lesson his professor teaches him.
Kevin Spacey is as good as he always is, as is Laurence Fishburne. Kate Bosworth plays all of her characters the same, with that same rehearsed smile as if she has internal bitterness that she doesn't want you to know about. Either way, you will enjoy this film.

1.
The Wiz
G
Perhaps my all around favorite movie because it covers all of the basics: Action, humor, music, story and heart.
2.
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
PG
I'd give it six if I could. I don't really know how to critique a movie. I just know how they make me feel. No movie has ever impacted me as significantly as this one. I loved movies before I saw this in '77, but movies became my passion after I saw it.
3.
Titanic
PG-13
I don't generally laud love stories but this movie is one of the most all-around finest movies I have had the pleasure of viewing.
5.
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring
PG-13
I will admit that the first viewing of this movie had me wondering what all of the fuss was about but once I saw the entire trilogy, I cannot help but to dub this (along with the other two) a masterpiece and cinema par excellence. The story is so lush and rich that if you watch the three movies you actually believe that you've gone through everything that the heroes have gone through. Amazing. If history is something that is studied two hundred years from now, these movies will resonate even then.
6.
TRON
PG
That isn't my honest score. I personally rate it at close to 5 but that is simply because I saw this as a 14 year old and it blew me away back then. So I guess I like it for sentimental reasons. Actually, the movie is mediocre at best.

Rashômon (Rashomon) (In the Woods)
by MarkApparently this film was one of the first to use the "flashback from multiple perspectives approach", so it is historically and creatively significant for that. However, I found the acting style of Mifune, as the bandit, to be a distraction more than anything else. The use of the "medium" to convey one perspective was a highlight for me. Overall an interesting movie, but one that I expected more from.
Hey, you might want to see this!

Martian Child
by TashaSUPERB!!!! I guess because I could sooooo identify with it all. WOW!!!
It was a sobering movie; intriguing and funny. I hope that everyone who can both see and hear checks it out.
It's romantic, but not lustfully so, but passionately; imploring a fervency of patience and compassion. It's warm and endearing...and definitely a validating must see for both the misunderstood and those who love them.
A new FAVORITE for me!What more can I say that I haven't already written in my review? LOL. I hope you'll check it out and if you do, that you'll enjoy it more than I did (although I don't think that's possible). Tasha
