This movie was the best movie of 2006, it was a story that has happened and was a movie that showed the true effects of the diamond industry and what they do to get the diamonds oveer to a place that will sell them
Leonardo Dicaprio has really become an awesome actor and he is really someone to watch out for in the next few years, their was been early rumors about leo winning best actor and after watching this movie i feel that he definitley should and that it would be ashame if he didnt
Djimon Hounsou played such a wonderfull part in this movie, his character of solomon vandy shouldnt have been mixed up in this but he wanted his Family back and he wanted his life back. The army took his son and he went on this journey to get him back
Jennifer Connelly definitley fit in this movie, sometimes they dont make a space for a third person but in this movie they sure did.
this movie was totally graphic and you could se that in the way they showed the scences of the miliray making kids do their work. and the scenes which showed all those people getting shot were really shocking to watch because you never think of thjese thongs happening
This movie was an all around good film that i believe everyone should watch sometime ib their life
The Dark Knight begins with Batman working with Jim Gordon(Oldman) who is the cop willing to do what it takes to end crime in Gotham City. With the help of Harvey Dent( Eckhart) and Rachel Dawes (Gyllenhaal) they have to unite and figure out what is right to stop the new criminal of Gotham City simply known as the Joker(Ledger). The joker is phycopathic and plays on the emotions and it doesnt it for kicks, not really having a motive.
The Late Heath Ledger is flawless. Everything and anything good that has been said about his portrayal is accurate. Heath delivers his lines, and it goves you chills when he says what he says. Heath's portrayal of the Joker is far more sinical then anyother villian I have seen to date. He is willing to do anything, just to prove his point, just to get the thrill of explosions and killing. Heath Ledger will always be remembered. Heath deserves the posthumous oscar award. He deserves any and all praise willing to be given. Flawless portrayal. It left me speachless for a good half an hour after I watched it.
Gary Oldman and Christian Bale do such a wonderful job playing Batman and Gordon. Batman is different this time around.Gordon is willing to take down thw criminals but Batman isnt so sure that they can take down the Joker.
The Special affects are rocking. The Story is perfect, The acting is flawless. This is the best comic book adaption I have ever scene.
Chris and Jonathon Nolan wrote a script that will never be forgotten. This film is stand alone when you think of comic book adaptions. This is the Batman we were all waiting to see. This is the Joker that we have come to wish for. This is the movie that will end up being the best of 08. This movie will go down in history. Its more then just Batman, its the Joker, its acting at its finest, its A struggle of knowing what is right and what is wrong. Its characters developed to the point where it almost seems real.
Candy tells the story of Candy and Dan, two lovers who bith believe in the arts. Candy is a painter and Dan is a poet. They met and fell in love like it was meant to be. Dan was a heroin addict and Candy quickly changed her lifestyle to accompany his. Candy and Dan begin to spiral down and out of control. Can anything save these two lovers?
Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish are both flawless. These two are so brilliant that this film becomes so hard to watch. Heath plays Dan, a man who loves Candy and will do anything for her, yet he got in to deep and now he has an addiction. Heath is so powerful and his and Abbies portryals are both so realistic it hurts after a while to watch.
Candy is probably the most powerful film I have ever watched in my life. It is a tragedy and about half way through there is a scene that just makes the best of us breakdown and cry. It is the most painfully realistic film to be releases in years, There is no glorification of drugs, it shows the struggles of trying to quit and trying to settle down and have a family. The tempations are so strong, that sometimes even the most willing of people cannot give up what pains the most.
The Chemistry between Heath and Abbie makes this films message so much deeper. Dan and Candy begin to drift apart and when Candy suffers a nervous breakdown they are forced to make a choice. Whether or not staying together is good for both of them.
Candy is a hard film to watch, it makes you cry. This film is the first film to ever get me crying half way through and I was still crying for about an hour after it was completed. As a movie it is a good, but its so painfully real that it would be hard to watch a second time. The acting is perfect and that makes it harder to watch. This film will leave you with so many mixed emotions that you wont even know what to think or feel when its done except sadness. Great performances by Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish.
Here are a couple of quotes from the film Candy that will sum up how sad this film actually is.
Dan: I wasn't trying to wreck Candy's life. I was trying to make mine better.
Casper: [to Dan] Promise me you'll stop. Promise me you'll stop before I do.
Once upon a time there was Candy and Dan. It was just the two of them. Everything was gold. He was handsome and a very good criminal. We lived on sunlight and chocolate bars. He would climb balconies, climb everywhere, do anything for her. Her Danny boy. He came into my life really fast and I liked it. But Danny, you said, you promised, you pointed at the sky: That one is called Sirius, the Dog Star, but only here on Earth. How much do I love this worrying in my ears, since there is only one thing to love and it can not be you. Danny the daredevil. Candy went missing."
Once again this film is so painfully real it hurts to watch it.
Tom meets Summer the day she begins working at the same office he works in. Tom writes greeting cards and automatically takes a liking to Summer. He thinks she is the one for him, and he tries his hardest to make her notice him. Eventually they end up talking and things begin to bloom from there. The only problem is Tom and Summer don?t want the same things. Tom wants a commitment and Summer doesn?t believe in true love.
Summer: You weren't wrong, Tom. You were just wrong about me.
Tom is shy he keeps to himself, he believes that one day he will find the girl of his dreams. Everyone wants to believe this and Tom sees his true love in Summer. Tom tries to win over Summer but he just can?t seem to crack her. She is dead set against love and Tom struggles to try and get her to let down her defences and fall in love. Joseph Gordon Levitt was perfect, Tom was quirky fun and a hopeless romantic. Levitt was Oscar worthy, all though he wont get it the performance was far better than many that have or will win Oscars. Yes I said Gordon Levitt is a big time actor, give him some credit here, this film was real, the struggles were real. Tom was exactly like someone we all know and had a little bit of each of us in him. That is why this film was so perfect and felt so authentic.
Tom and Summer built something from nothing, and when it all came crashing down it was painful, Tom was so saddened, and Summer was just so able to keep going. She toyed with Tom after that, which was the saddest part of the entire film. Summer and Tom became another broken down relationship, another star for the books, but Tom had real feelings and his heartbreak just wouldn?t go away. Anyone who has ever felt rejection the sting of break up felt Toms pain.
Tom: I love her smile. I love her hair. I love her knees. I love how she licks her lips before she talks. I love her heart-shaped birthmark on her neck. I love it when she sleeps
But really what impressed me most, and I don?t want to be sexist here, is that the man had the feelings for the woman. Usually it is the man who doesn?t have the correct feelings, but it was good to see a role reversal and see a film where Men aren?t the targets of aggression. Summer hurt Tom, and it was sad to see that in a film. Films often tend to forget that men can have real feelings. Films often paint men as emotionless cold beings. I?m not saying Summer was emotionless and cold, but the complete opposite. She had strong emotions and she hurt Tom. Ultimately what I am saying is that this film was different from what I usually see. The man had his heart broken and couldn?t move forward. It just shows that men can have honest feelings too. I know I am rambling, I just don?t see a film of this nature very often.
Narrator: Most days of the year are unremarkable. They begin, and they end, with no lasting memories made in between. Most days have no impact on the course of a life. May 23rd was a Wednesday.
Easily going to find its way onto my faves list. Why? The story was rich with emotion, the characters were people I felt I knew, and the cast doesn?t have their faces painted all over bill boards, they didn?t have world class good looks, they looked average. From Levitt to Deschanel to Gubler to Arend, you felt for these people because the glamour of being a world famous star wasnt a part of this film. The perfect cast, easily better then a cast that would include Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Meryl Streep, Will Smith or any famous person. This cast was perfect because they needed to be. Hands down this film relied on its cast like any other film, but unlike many films featuring big actors, the cast needed to be good for this film to be considered good. Not a member of this cast let me down. I enjoyed what this young and energetic cast brought to the table.
I focused on the dramatic aspect of the film, but it was the mixture of comedy and hope along with heartbreak and rejection that made this film perfect. I felt a whirlwind of emotions, I felt jolted when Tom and Summer felt pain. I felt sympathy for Tom. I felt like a friend needed my help. I felt like I understood Summers reasoning. That is why I loved this film. I loved it for its honesty, for the character driven plot.
This film was moving, the mixed array of emotions from laughter to being on the verge of tears is what keeps you watching this film. I really want to see more films of this nature.
Arguably one of the best movies i have ever watched in my life, it hooks you right from the start when derek says he wants revenge for the death of his father. Emotions run wild as derek is sent away for three years for avenging his father in one of the worst ways possible with murder.
Right Away Ed Norton establishes the mood when he is shown with a swatika tatoo n his chest, the rest of the film becomes a power struggle of races with the whites feeling the blacks to be surperiour. Norton who plays a neo-nazi skinhead can almost get the audience to understand the white suprmesit point of view. He describes in suck marvelling and sickening detail why the white supremist movements in the states are the way of the future. The message that he gives is really quite shocking and mind blowing leaving , in the end leaving the audience saying that they cant understand why someone would want to live there life that way.
Never the less the film goes from an all out battle of the races to a battle of inner emotions and physcoligical issues. While in jail Derek sheads his Racist ways but no shifts his emtions to his high school brother, who is afetr the effection of his older brother, and figures the only way he can to do that is to be like he used to be. Derek is fearing death and it will strike in the end of the film, and the end of the film will rack up so many emotions in you that you almost want to break down and cry and question the meaning of life and why people do what they do. What satisfaction do people get out of that life.
The story also deals with a sub plot and that is that Danny"s prinicpal is a black man trying to teach him not to respect the likes of hitler. The sub plot takes away from the gang violence and tries to answer all the answered questions.
Truly worthy of the five stars it merits and a must see film of all time. It will leave you saddened but it will also leave you with a different outlook on life and how you will handle sitautions from here on out.
The film is unlike many films cause not alot of films want to exploit gang violence and ratial wars, but they are out there and why not get people to fully undersatnd them, make your points about white surpremcy but dont overdo, as Tony Kaye the director almost made himself out to be racist by getting to much in depth and speaking what appears to be a personal opinion and not so much a fact. Still worthy of the five stars i gave it, cause it truly does deal with a real life issue one that cant face much more exploitation in the media or news cause it may only further escalate
Gone Baby Gone deals with one of the most touchiest of subjects. Its deals with the investigations that go into a child abduction. This time around it is about Patrick Kenzie who is hired as a P.I to bring back the missing child. He promises the childs mother that no matter what the outcome and no matter what he has do she will have her child back. Even when the story starts to unravel and Patrick fears the results he still keeps his word. Does Patrick return the child? That cannot be answered until you see the film.
Ben Affleck makes his directorial debut . And it must be stated that Ben may never be able to live up to his debut. After writing Good Will Hunting and now directing and writing this film it wouldnt be understatement to say that Ben and the actors may win a few awards at the Academy Award Ceremony in February. Ben sticks to an issue but doesnt make it about personal opinions but deals more with what the audience may feel after watching this film. Ben should continue his screenplay domince by writing more instead of acting.
Ben made a good choice in starring his lesser known but still talented younger brither Casey. Casey was fantastic possibly with the heart wrenching performance of the year, definitley the most thought provoking and inteeligent performance of his carrer to date and possibly for ever. Look for Casey to gain more fame from this role and eventually outshine older brother Ben in the field of acting. If Ben and Casey continue to work together then they could be Hollywoods next Deniro and Scorsese. Yes that may be a major assumption but believe in the magic of hollywood.
Ed Harris and Morgan Freeman wer cast to bring it up if Casey was let down. Being that Casey was Fantastic Harris and Freeman were the ones that put the icing on the cake. Freeman has been in about every film ever made, not really just kidding but still he has done alot. From palying good in Bruce Almighty and in his next upcoming picture a Cancer pantient. Freeman can take om just about any challenge. Harris on the other hand has been around for a long time as well but can be hit or miss depending on what he is doing.
The actresses that shined in this film were Michelle Monaghan and Amy Madigan. Madigan played the crak head mother of the child missing. Even though her child was missing she still didnt see any reason to change her ways if she was to see her child again. Madigan who Ben made look a lot worse than she actually does in my mind stuck out over the rest excpet Casey. Madigan and Casey had such good Chemistry on screen when discussing the issue at hand.
Set in the Slums of Boston Gone Baby Gone racks your emotions so high that about 5 times during this film you wish to cry. The imagery used in the slums of boston was some of the saddest scenery and living conditions that have been used in a film for a long time. Gone Baby gone was not ahout capturing the glamour in Boston but the people who struggle to sometimes find a meaning in the one life we are given.
In the End Gone Baby Gone makes you think shoud a child with a drug addicted mother grow up away from her parents. Should he or she live that life. Will he or she end up the same way as the parents? Is up to us to decide the wherabouts of the child. Now does everyone understand why this film is so emotinally racking. Why it makes you want to Cry? id not then see it for yourself and maybe you will cry, All that is guranteed is that by the end of this movie and throughout at some times there was water in my eyes.
Gone Baby Gone is the emotion filled ride of 07. Go see it not for the acting but for the message and the continuing belief that doing the right thing is the way it should be done
Juno is a great film that really has a great story and is fun to watch. It is about pregnant teenager Juno McGuff and her friend Paulie Bleeker the father of her baby. Juno is a wise teenager and she realizes that she is not in the predicament to take care of a child and raise it when her and Paulie are not even together. Juno tries to make sure that she is giving her baby up to the right people. In the end it is sad and really reflects on todays societ and this film does not make life seem perfect.
Ellen Page is joyous as the quirky and witty Juno. Ellen is a debuting as a starring actress in this film and this film is worth celebrating for her. She gained an academy award nomination. She really does show the true sides of being in todays society and what is like to be considered an outsider and not have many friends. Ellen is going to be a mainstreamer for many years and with a debut role of the calibre how can one go wrong.
Michael Cera is just one of those watchable actors. He is funny and crazy in Aressted Development and then takes it up a notch in Superbad a funny comedy worth wacthing if that I say so myself/ Cera does something in Juno that he has never done something Im glad he did. He really showed he has a career in something more then a comedy. He is fun to watch on the bigscreen. He really has a I-Try-really -hard-look. Great performance and great intimacy between Ellen and Michael. Cera is going to be one of my top ten must watch actors over the next few years.
Juno was a well recieved Indie flixk that really does have a lot to make it good. Word of mouth and the hype spreads to quickly. This is the type of film that is more apreaciated if it is seen earlier on in its release. After a while it starts to be well-praised and almost deemed as the perfect film to watch. It is great and fun to watch and really could end up being the top film of 07.
The reason that so many people will accpet it this film in the end is because it truly does reflect todays society and how we live. It does not end all happy. It truly steps aside and delivers the knockout ending punch that so many film fans have been wanting to see for such a long time. It really does not end all Hollywoodish and it really never portrays itself as the big hollywood blockbuster. Great marketing and a great story along with a few well known actors and actresses really are what caught everyones eye.
Definitley a must see movie, despite all its hype, put it all aside and look at it as a hole and then it will become clear that it is a must see of 07
Monty Brogan (Norton) is a dealer who makes his money off of the misery and discontent of others. He thrives off of the people who need his drugs. They keep his cash flowing, and his rich life style possible. Monty has to support his girl Naturelle (Dawson) so he buys her expensive clothes and takes her out clubbing. When the cops come to Monty?s apartment the life he knows is over. He is going to prison for 7 years. He suspects Naturelle may have been on the one that turned him in, but he isn?t sure. He tries to have one last good solid night of fun before he goes off to hell. Monty reconnects with his two best friends Jacob (Hoffman) and Francis (Peppers) for a night of drinking and reminiscing. Jacob tells Monty that he is in love with his 17 year old student Mary (Paquin) and Francis shows his loyalty to Monty by trying to question Naturelle about turning Monty in. Monty lives it up for one last night, one last night where he gets to call the shots and one last night of freedom.
Monty Brogan is a man of many words, a man who lives two lives. One where he supports the habits of others and the second where he lives and breathes the club scene. Monty tries to change his ways in his last 24 hours, but the life he has built for himself gets in his way. Monty is full of regret full of life, and energy. He still has things to accomplish. Norton shows a lighter side to this man who seems to be inhumane. Monty seems to not care about anyone but himself. Norton is able to show that even people who seem to have nothing may be able to give there love to someone else. Norton is able to shed the Dealer image of Monty and give us the human Monty. Norton is amazing, almost as good as American History X and Fight Club, Norton gives another career defining performance. Norton makes you smile, cry and understand that sometimes life just gets in the way for some people who mean well. Monty was never meant to come off as a jerk, but with the life he leads that is the way people see him. By showing only his last 24 hours Monty is shown in some situations where even his emotions do get the better of him.
Francis has known Monty since the age of three. He is afraid Monty is not going to be the same person when he is released from Prison. Francis wants to spend one last night with his best friend. Peppers does a good job the arrogant and self-righteous Francis Xaiver Slaughtery. Francis wants women, he wants to be a big shot. Monty suspects that Francis wants Naturelle for himself, and she is willing. That is why she turned him in. Francis wants to prove himself to Monty but he does not have a lot of time to do so.
Jacob is a shy drama professor who happened to be friends with Monty while they were both in School. They are not the same people, and never will agree on morales, but when they go out they get along really well. Jacob happens to love one of his students and thinks it is forbidden. He does not want to show her interest, but he cannot help it. Jacob begins to regret going out for one final night of partying but remembers what reason he did it for.
Spike Lee wanted to create a movie, where the drug dealers reign post 9/11 was eminent. Ge wanted bad people to be the focal point, to show that even after a tragic event took place there were still people determined to make it through illegal activities. He wanted people to see the views of three different people, who all lived in the same city and all regarded the situation in a different light. Lee wanted to show that some people blame all foreign people and not the one man who did cause the problem. Lee wanted to show us a man who came off us nice and kind but blamed all his issues squarely on the shoulders of the ones who had no say in what he did, and did not really care what he did. Lee wants us to see that after 9/11 racism is still a problem, and how it will always remain a problem. Lee did even go as far as to show the ground zero sight through a series of shots. He even has Francis make a comment about living close to there. This movie is deep and rich, it is full of surprises, a few twist and some masterfully developed characters. Spike Lee gave his audiences a film that they could embrace a film that all people who see themselves as struggling can relate to. Also it is for those people who think there lives are full of trouble to watch and see that sometimes we do not always have it that bad.
Here a couple of quotes to end this off
Monty Brogan: No. No. Fuck you Montgomery Brogan. You had it all, and you threw it away, you dumb fuck! Monty in this quote is seeing himself in a new light, where he realizes he had friends and he gave it all up to go to prison for seven years. He finally see that his life will be a lot different from here on out, and that he may not like the outcome. Monty finally understands that this falls on no one but himself.
James Brogan: We'll drive. Keep driving. Head out to the middle of nowhere, take that road as far as it takes us. You've never been west of Philly, have ya? This is a beautiful country Monty, it's beautiful out there, like a different world. Mountains, hills, cows, farms, and white churches. I drove out west with your mother one time, before you was born. Brooklyn to the Pacific in three days. Just enough money for gas, sandwiches, and coffee, but we made it. Every man, woman, and child alive should see the desert one time before they die. Nothin' at all for miles around. Nothin' but sand and rocks and cactus and blue sky. Not a soul in sight. No sirens. No car alarms. Nobody honkin' atcha. No madmen cursin' or pissin' in the streets. You find the silence out there, you find the peace. You can find God. So we drive west, keep driving till we find a nice little town. These towns out in the desert, you know why they got there? People wanted to get way from somewhere else. The desert's for startin' over. Find a bar and I'll buy us drinks. I haven't had a drink in two years, but I'll have one with you, one last whisky with my boy. Take our time with it, taste the barley, let it linger. And then I'll go. I'll tell you dont ever write me, dont ever visit, I'll tell you I believe in God's kingdom and I'll see you and your mother again, but not in this lifetime. You'll get a job somewhere, a job that pays cash, a boss who doesn't ask questions, and you make a new life and you never come back. Monty, people like you, it's a gift, you'll make friends wherever you go. You're going to work hard, you're going to keep your head down and your mouth shut. You're going to make yourself a new home out there. You're a New Yorker, that won't ever change. You got New York in your bones. Spend the rest of your life out west but you're still a New Yorker. You'll miss your friends, you'll miss your dog, but you're strong. You got your mother backbone in you, you're strong like she was. You find the right people, and you get yourself papers, a drivers license. You forget your old life, you can't come back, you can't call, you can't write. You never look back. You make a new life for yourself and you live it, you hear me? You live your live the way it should have been. But maybe, this is dangerous, but maybe after a few years you send word to Naturelle. You get yourself a new family and you raise them right, you hear me? Give them a good life Monty. Give them what they need. You have a son, maybe you name him James, it's a good strong name, and maybe one day years from now years after im dead and gone reunited with your dear ma, you gather your whole family around and tell them the truth, who you are, where you come from, you tell them the whole story. Then you ask them if they know how lucky there are to be there. It all came so close to never happening. This life came so close to never happening.
This quote is really deep. Monty?s father despite all his mistakes still loves his son, that will never change and nor should it. Even though he plans on visting his son in prison he still cannot help but wish his son had made a few different choices along the way. This quote sums up how much a father is willing to do for his son. This movie is deep. I may have said to much throughout this review. I may have given to much away, but this film is so deep, and is really emotional.
It was a film retelling the widly interesting life a film maker/ plane designer howard hughes and his love interests and his interest in money and his journey to design the worlds biggest plane.howard hughes ended becoming afraid of coming in contact with jerms that he locked himslf in his house and wouldnt touch anything, in this film you see his life his struggles and his attempts to avoid germs.
Leonardo dicaprios Brilliant and inspiring portryal of Howard hughes was a memorable performance and leos big break for his carrer, He brought out his true acting talents under the direction of Martin Scorsese and he will go on to bigger and better films due to this break through performance.
The film also starred Cate Blanchette as Katherine Hepburn, the only women whom howard actually loved, although he had many more women, And cate brought the romance btween howard and katherine to life with her stuuning performance in this film.
the supporting cast was made up of Kate Beckinsale, Alec Baldwin and Ian holm who all brought something special to their roles, sometimes filmakers can do a film with an unknown supporting cast and sometimes they cant, and this time it was a good choice to use a well known supprting cast.
The story was one that we all of heard an one that really captivated the audience when they went to see it, the film was the highest grossing film of 2004 and it won pllent of wards at the 2005 golden globes including leos first ever best actor win and best director for martin scorsese.
The music is not something that usually has determining factor in whether a movie is good or not, but in this film it actually was , the music from the 1920s and 30s was an awesome rendition to an already superb film
Their were alot of stunning special affects in this movie , like when howard had plane crash while flying a test run, their are alot of people who would say that this film is to long, but it seemed that when the film was getting boring they show a scene that would get the audience right back into this movie.
The film will be remembered for the story and for leos brilliant portrayal of the legendary and very intersting howard hughes.
Murphy: There are varying degrees of evil, we urge you lesser forms of filth not to push the bounds and cross over, into true corruption, into our domain.
Connor McManus (Sean Patrick Flannery) and his brother Murphy (Norman Reedus) have been on a mission to rid the streets of Boston of its criminals after a freak accident landed them as heroes to the people of Boston. They accidentally killed two Russian Mafia men and so it as a chance from God to help clean the streets of Boston. While continually finding themselves the center of FBI agent Paul Smeckers (Willem Dafoe) watch the McManus brothers continue to do what they feel is right. Smeckers begins to questions whether or not he should pursue the twin brothers or join them on their mission from god.
Monsignor:
And I am reminded, on this holy day, of the sad story of Kitty Genovese. As you all may remember, a long time ago, almost thirty years ago, this poor soul cried out for help time and time again, but no person answered her calls. Though many saw, no one so much as called the police. They all just watched as Kitty was being stabbed to death in broad daylight. They watched as her assailant walked away. Now, we must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men.
The Boondock Saints is an all out action movie. There is no denying that fact, the killing scenes are straight from Hollywood. The shootouts are realistic, the pain and violence is shown brilliantly on the faces of these powerful actors. While maintaining the action label it also has another label. That of an action film that carries a strong message in faith. The reason is because these brothers are killing in the name of god. Many people will argue and say it is incorrect to do such a thing. Personally to avoid an argument I agree. But this film gives us hope, in an odd way that somewhere out there people are willing to still fight for the right causes. Now taking a life for a life is not a justifiable response. Killing in the name of god is not accepted. But this film is able to lay it on us, and make us see it as a potential benefit. You see the McManus brothers state on numerous occasions in the film that they are only willing to take out those people who have no shred of humanity left. Even as stated in the quote above the brothers will not shed innocent blood. Sorry to get off track, back to the film. During the action scenes, one is able to enjoy the action as well as capture the message. These brothers seem like the unconventional religious type. They booze, they smoke, they swear. As the film progresses and they are shown in religious moments one can truly see how much religion can mean to certain individuals.
The acting is pitch perfect. Willem Dafoe, Sean Patrick Flannery, Norman Reedus and Billy Connolly all help portray the films message. Connolly is at first introduced as the ruthless killer, but as the film progresses his true identity is revealed. I know many people have seen this film but for those who haven?t I will not include spoilers. Flannery and Reedus are convincing as two average Joes who happen to feel that they have a calling from god. As they recite the prayers and mercilessly kill the wicked, it seems real. They make it seem so real that you could envision a real life story sounding exactly like the one in the movie.
Il Duce: Never shall innocent blood be shed, yet the blood of the wicked shall flow like a river. The Three shall spread their blackened wings and be the vengeful striking hammer of God.
This film holds great messages of faith, but many will disagree with the way the McManus brothers went about professing their faith. In the end people could debate for hours on end whether or not they were doing the right thing. As much as people argue it no one will be able to fully come to a conclusion whether or not it is justified or not. A brilliant film, that features powerful acting, a great story, action for the ages and strong messages. I recommend anyone who likes action and believes strongly in faith to go and get a copy of this film and watch it. Despite whether or not you feel the actions of the two brothers is right or wrong, keep in mind it is only a film and none of what took place in the film has actually happened in real life. A brilliant film. Simply amazing
A father and son walk across a post apocalyptic wasteland in search for food shelter and hope. They only have each other, and must face the impending danger head on. Love is the strongest bond of all, it can sometimes be the only thing that will get you through.
The Man: I told the boy when you dream about bad things happening, it means you're still fighting and you're still alive. It's when you start to dream about good things that you should start to worry.
This was the one film in all of 2009 that I wanted to be good, and it was as perfect as I thought it would be. The film was exactly like the book with a few more wife flashbacks, but they made them work. They added more emotion to the story, and made you understand the pain of the man and his boy, they made you really feel like you could have been that man. The characters had no names, which to me is the beauty of what this film was, they didnt need names, it was the story, the emotions and how it could have been anyone that was enough to capture the audience.
Mortensen was perfect, exactly the way I imagined the man caring for his boy, honest, sincere, the ultimate provider. I thought Viggo gave his best performance to date, and that is saying a lot considered the three brilliant performances he gave in each of the LOTR films. But this time around Viggo was emotionally attached to his peformance, he was working with another brilliant actor in Kodi Smit-McPhee (Who will get an oscar nom hopefully). Viggo became the man, it seemed like Kodi was his son, it didnt seem like a movie because you were taken away by both performances. You couldnt help but feel emotional during some of the scenes in the film. I would hope Viggo could get a nom as well, but I will settle for Kodi, I just thought the boy would be even harder to portray then the man. Kodi needed to be believable, he needed to have the right emotions and that is difficult for an actor at the age of 13, but he nailed it, he was acting right alongside Viggo, and they complemented each other perfectly.
You see The Road may not be the action film of 2009 or as good as other films you may have seen, but really, if you want an emotional love story, between a father and his son this film is beautiful. The best film I have seen in a long time. Brilliance.
This Film is great from start to finish. Each stage of Bob Dylans life is represented . Jack(Bale) Represents the early stages of Greenich Village. Jack represents when Dylan begins to sing Folk and stands up for what he believes in. He writes protest songs and people begin to fall in love with his ability to move a crowd with his ballads and his hopes and dreams. After Jack falls from the top we meet Robbie (Ledger) an actor who portrays Jack Collins in a film and who later falls in love at a coffee shop. He ends up married and on the road a lot thus representing the struggles in Bob Dylans life to maintian a family. After life begins to build up and Robbie spends more time on the road we are introuduced to Jude(Blanchett) and this character is the one that opens the film up. This character brings the film to new horizons showing us the artist side and creativity to the person Bob Dylan was. Jude begins to write protest songs but is entirely misunderstood. He is thrown into a load of situations involving a poet named Allen (David Cross) and his loved by a groupie (Michelle Williams). When Jude begins to stuggle to find meaning and happiness we are brought back to Jack who is found Jesus. After this we are introuduced to the final version of Dylan who in the film is named Billy. Billy (Richard Gere) lives in the woods and is secluded from all forms of public relations except for small town life. He lives here happily for twenty years but of course he is brought back into the public life by the threat of a new six lane highway that will tear his town apart. He then escapes on a train and then the last we see is Jude singing a song which ultimately represents the complete turn in which the life of Bob Dylan took.
Great memorable characters are hard to create especially if the are trying to mimic someone that was real. Christian Bale did a sincere and honest job as the early Dylan bought noone really bought into his role. He set up for the main parts of the movie. Heath Ledger came in and took over for Christian Bale playing an entirely different Bob Dylan. Heath did an awesome job playing a struggling family man also trying to juggle his career. So much anticpation was riding on Heath because this was the type of film that he could challenge himself as an actor. Heath did an awesome job and this is one of my fave of his movies in his career. Heath had an awesome career, that was cut way to short, but the films in which he choose were spectacular and visually appealing to all people to looking to watch a sophisticated movie. Cate Blanchett stole the show which is not surprising to me at all.She did the best job of sounding and portraying the way Bob Dylan actually was throughout the mid sixties.Cate was a good addition to the film playing a man but if you did not know then and even if you did this role was still one of the best roles of the year. Bruce Greenwood , Michelle Williams and David Cross were the actors who were hired to fill in the missing peices and they did just that. There characters were little, but held meaning and each one of them did a good job to secure that the films plot held strong and that the people understood the life of Bob Dylan.
The settings were appealing and the story stood out. The characters who all happened to represent Bob Dylan still all came off the screen with there own personality traits that help structure the plot. It was fun to watch the characters intertwine and never once did any of the representations of Bob Dylan come together on screen. Awesome movie, one the best biopics that one can watch in recent years. The film was almost 2 hrs and 20 mins but with all the different characters it kept the audience into it. If they wouls have had the same actor run around playing Dylan then the film would have gotten boring. But since they had characters that we all know represented Dylan but held different names it gave the audience that feel that maybe it was not always Bob Dylan but the struggles just six different people.
Bob Dylan is well respected and alot of people know who he is. This film is meant for the people who have heard about his life and know what he has accomplished. If you know nothing about Bob Dylan you may still enjoy this film but it may cause a little more confusion. Still an all around good film and one that all true music fans would love.
The zephyr boys were legendary. The all made it big as skateboarders. They all came from hardship and stayed loyal to those they trusted at least until the idea of money came into the picture. The three main z boys all came from different ways of life all looking to reinvent a sport and out it on the map. Jay( Hirsch) was only looking to help his mom pay the rent and make sure that she does not have to go though any hard times. Tony Alva (Victor Rasuk) was just trying to make a living and be someone that he could be proud of. Stacy Peralta (John Robinson) was basically just a simple kid that was following his friends but happened to have talent where skateboarding is concerned. The three boys along with a few others were brought together by Skip Engblom ( Heath Ledger). Skip was trying to give these kids a shot at what they loved and a chance to fulfill their dreams. He gave them that and in the end they all went on to bigger and better things but Skip never held it against them.
Emile Hirsch broke through with this film. He starred as the wild and out of this world Jay Adams. A man who was good at skateboarding but began to mix with the wrong crowd and had a little bit of an attitude problem sometimes. Emile did an awesome job carrying the load of this character and making everyone see the hardships of trying to make something of yourself. Emile is awesome, does some good skateboarding tricks and skates his way into an awesome roll with some awesome critical acclaim.
First off I would like to say Rest in Peace Heath Ledger. Secondly I would like to say what an awesome actor you were. Heath had so many awesome roles from the Order, The brothers Grimm, Casanova and Brokeback mountain. Heath was well known and had some awesome talents. He was an awesome man to have known in real life. In Lords of Dogtown he plays Skip Engblom the man who starts the legendary Z-Boys a group of young teens who went on to become some of the most well known skateboarders of all time. Heath does a good job capturing the know holds barred, everything goes attitude of Skip. Heath does a good job of playing the business man struggling to get some cash while trying to keep his boys from bailing on him.
Lords of Dogtown combines the struggles of life with the struggles of trying to make something of yourself. The Z-boys dealt with life on the streets and girls and the temptations of money and how it can ultimately decide who you do business with and who supports you in your efforts. Lords of Dogtown really shows how the sport of skateboarding was built and how it got to where it is now. Skateboarding is an ever growing sport and has become one of the most popular sports since the late seventies until now. Dogtown shows the true value of friends and family and what you will do to bail them out of hard spot. It also shows how quickly friends can disown one another but when it comes down to it they will always remain friends.
Lords of Dogtown is awesome and rich in the struggles of life and how going from nothing to something does not always make you truly happy. You have to find it within yourself to truly become happy.
Jim Carroll: First, it's a Saturday night thing when you feel cool like a gangster or a rockstar- just something to kill the boredom, you know? They call it a chipie, a small habbit. It feels so good, you start doing it on Tuesdays... then Thursdays... then it's got you. Every wise ass punk on the block says it won't happen to them, but it does.
Jim Carroll: Leonardo Dicaprio Jims Ma: Lorraine Braco Swifty: Bruno Kirby Bobby: Michael Imperioli Mickey: Mark Wahlberg
Jim Carroll is a young upstart basketball player in high school. He and his buddies are trouble makers off the court, but when the on the court the dominate the game like no others. They go out at nights, pick fights, Jim writes his journals and they go to school. They dont like it, most people dont like school. Jim, Mickey and the others go to a catholic school in New York City where sins are punishable by violence. Jim and his friends get stoned on occasion, but Basketball comes first. Until one night Jim and Mickey try Cocaine, they are forever changed. They begin picking fights more often, getting high before playing a game of basketball and then they get into even harder drugs, heroine, crack, once and while even popping pills. Jim and his friends get out of control and they are on the fast track to prison or maybe something worse.
Jim:your nose is running.. your legs are cramped? but theres always a voice in the back of your head saying just one more time and then ill quit.
Jim Carroll struggled to find himself as a basketball player, couldnt find himself as a person, he began writing out his feelings but didnt believe in them. His friends believed in drugs and substances to help get you through the day. Jim adopted that belief and he becomes something that keeps him from living his dream. Jim turns to harder and harder drugs to lift his spirits, but the damage is done when you come down from that high of all highs. Jim Carroll is kicked out of the home he knows and left to fight with the streets of a city he cannot beat. A movie give a terrible name to drugs is often a set of emotions that most average joes dont know how to deal with. It is complicated and immensly hard to make people understand how these people encounter every day life. We get even more upset at the notion that a hollywood film is trying to depict something that a lot people think cannot be depicted on the big screen. This film is different. From the beginning it is set as a dark drama about a city street boy, none of the hollywood glamour. Apart from Dicaprio and Wahlberg none of the names in this film are big time house hold names.
Diacprio is the bright star in this film. Dicaprio bestows upon the world of movie goes a good young kid who gets involved with the wrong crowd. Dicaprio shows the ins and outs of Jim Carrolls seventeen year old world. Dicaprio himself was 21 at the time, coming into the lime light with his bigtime steal in Whats Eating Gilbert Grape. Diacprio was young, upstart and ready to take on the challenge. He takes the challenge and he delivers what after watching many of films before and after could stand as one of his most difficult and troubling performances. This is onw where he needed to find it with himself to be exceptional. He needed the audience to see Jim Carroll as we has, troubled, paining, in need of help. Jim Carroll was in dire need of some help, but he just wouldnt reach out and take it. He was in to deep and had no one willing to help him cope with his struggles. He needed the tough love he got, but would Jim Carroll get it before the time on the clock expired. Diacprio is fresh, he was young, his acting skills were fine tuned and he didnt dissapoint. Giving a film that plays at your heart strings.
Jim:If your gonna sniff, might as well pop it,and if your gonna pop it might as well mainline. I?m scared of needles but i gave in. It was like a long heat wave through my body, any ache or pain or sadness or guilty feeling was completely flushed out.
This film plays out and it makes you think about your own choices, and whether or not they are only affecting you as a person. When someone gets to the point of Jim Carroll did they are hurting more than just themselves. They hurt those who cared, those who have watched you grow up.
Jesse James is notorious with crime and murder and getting away. From his younger days uo until the time of his death Jesse was on the run trying to track down the people he felt may have betrayed him in any way. Jesse hada way of putting the fear if god into a man resulting in a lot of people just doing exactly what he wanted. With the exception of Robert Ford that is, a man who idolized Jesse and spoke no bad things about the man, was the one man Jesse could trust in. The ford family were respected by the James gang so when it came time for Bob to shot Jesse it all came as a surprise that a mann that close to Jesse and who had been around Jesse was able to kill him. Bob ford then went on to be nothing really. He had hoped the murder of Jesse James would catapult him into becoming a household name and gain him some recognition. But in the End it was Bob Ford that was shot and killed and noone had respect for. The only man that was respected was the notorious criminal Jesse James.
Andrew Domink with great and inspiring , art work here with this film. Great visions of the country plains and the bad atmospheric mood set by the hard-ass Jesse James. Dominik with a spelndid look at how Jesse James apent the last few monthos of his life wondering who had betrayed and when his death would come. For the first time in A long Time The scenery is what made this film a masterpeice and very entertaining.
Brad Pitt gives a soulful and masterful performance as the outlaw Jesse James. Pitt is none to take on challenges such as Tyler Durden in fight club and Rusty Ryan in the Oceans Trilogy. Pitt outshines even his best work here with his stunning performance which is one to be remembered. Despite no real award buzz for this film it is a stand alone when it comes to acting. It really does have aw great cast lead by Brad Pitt a man who can never let you down when in a lead role.
Not very many people really thought all that much of Casey Affleck or his brother Ben for that matter. Casey always fell into Bens shadow being the younger less talented brother. But when Ben had Casey star in his directorial debut all of that changed. Casey really took over as the better actor and extended hos brilliant year with this film. I was really pulling for Casey to win the oscar but he didnt, but it is still a giant leap in his career to have been nominated. This young man is one of the top 10 actors and actresses to look out for in the next 2 to 3 years.
Long films are some of the best to watch, some of the best to understand and some of the best written stories one will ever be a witness of. Some great long films include Citizen Kane, Titanic, Gangs of New York, all films that hold a meaning. One revolutionary, one a tragic story, and the third just an epic with great acting. Jesse James falls into all of those categories when you think about it. A tragic story because Jesse was doing good things with the money he had. Revolutionary because of the ability to utilize the scenery and great acting with the performances by Brad and Casey.
Great country plains and great settings with a lot o dialogue and very few actions scenes seem to be the new way. Great story and well delivered can either be hit or miss. Either the people fall asleep or they stay wide awake wit attention almost feeling sad when it was over and never for a second wanting those 3 hours of there life back because it was time well spent.
A worl of art is what Jesse James can be called, a cinematic masterpeice and purely enhoyable. Greatly done and fun to watch
Chris McCandless set out on an adventure, an adventure of a lifetime. One that brought him so much happiness and joy. One tthat sperated him from a crazy society that he wanted no part of. One that kept him away from his parents whom he had lost respect for along the way.One that kept Chris on his heels and fully alert of the dangers around him. One that taught him to respect the people you meet along the way and respect there insight and listen to what they have to say.Along the way Chris meets people all that shape him in sort of way. He meets Raney and Jan who teach him to live easy and be free and live the way you wish to live. He meets Ron Franz who teaches him that you can always learn new things you just need to allow yourself the time.He meets Tracey a sixteen year old girl who he teachers to grab what you want in life and never let it go. Live free and careless and make sure you enjoy every step of the way, that was the lesson Chris learned and that is what he did.
Sean Penn gives us one of the most touching films of all time. It is the story of one man, that most people can relate to in some sort of way. A man that has a great outlook on life and is all about living indepently.Sean Penn lets us know that we still need people arounfd us on life or we start to feel alone and scared, helpless searching for a light in the dark and dreary world. Forget all the nonsense politics screams at us, but focus on the natural beauty of life and realize that there is way more to life then being able to kill people and try and handle messed up socities. Forget that we are corrupt and that we live in a horrible society and reallize that we all could be enjoying life and just loving the people that surround us and care for us.
Emile Hirsch is wonderous as Chris/ Alex. Through out the film we all get the sense that Emile has really evolved as an actor. for example just 3 years ago he was in The Girl Next door and now he is in this film generating oscar buzz. We all know he did not get it but just the stir of the buzz is good enough to show us that this young man does have a future. Playing Chris was all about the emotions and being able to hold scene all on your own. Being able to make one believe that you really are in the wild. Emile is nothing short of fantastic. Great job on a great film.
William Hurt,Vince Vaughn, Katherine Keener and Kristin Stewart all made this film that much more joyous and triumphant. The one scene when Alex and Tracey are getting to know each other and they spend a lot of time together and Tracey thinks that sex is what he wants. It turns out that She is underage, yet he still finds a way from them to express there feelings for one another by singing a song at the festival. It shows true and rare human emotions when dealing with a situation. The whole aspect of sex is not something people should just be doing for the pure enjoyment but enjoying with the right person and that is what this film showed us.
Emotionally driven and the feeling of trying to believe in somethinf that you feel impossible is what this film is all about. The ways people feel coming from all walks of life trying to do what you want. If something in your life is not going well then change it. That is one of the many messages that this film delivers. It shows us that sometimes we could easily stay and live out a situation and do it proudly but if you have a dream then go and get it and never let it go. Grab onto it and hold it like there is not tomorrow and relish in it and make yourself proud in the one life that you are given to live. Its all about self happiness. Into the Wild is one of the best films one can ever watch in there lifetime. Great life story its just a little unsettling they way it ends
Jake and Will Grimm travel all around Europe telling follore and making people scared and believe in curses. They make up stroies about witches and wolves to make money, to build a rep and to simply just tell stories. When the find themselves in Germany, thinking they are dealing with another scam they bring their usual traps and gadgets. This time the only problem is it may not just be a scam, they may be involved in one of the greatest stories of all time.
Matt Damon does a fair job as the older brother Will Grimm. Matt Damon doesnt seem like he is going to fit. Coming off films like Bourne this seems like it would be an odd choice. It is, but he does a great job.
Heath Ledger steals the show, playing the bumbling, quirky, believer in the impossible Jacob Grimm. Jacobs odd behaviour and quirky expressions are what make the film funny. Heath does an amazing job in what really is an underrtated performance. Jake is often compared to Jack Sparrow from what is said, You can see it in the film. But Jake is a great character who is played aamzingly by the Late Heath Ledger, who never fails to get it done.
The Brothers Grimm is all about Fanatsy from start to finish. If you do not like fantasy, then this film is definitley not for you. It is rich with folkloric creatures, that we would never see in our forest behind our house. It is awesome, rich. quriky and fun.
A lot of people say Terry Gillam is not a good director. After watching this film It seems to me like he just makes his film his way. Which is not for everyone, he isnt trying to please a general audience or make a film that is ligh hearted. He has messages, some gore, but age old tales that noone knows the real origins too. Great film. Fun to watch. Great Characters. Awesome perforamce by Matt and Heath.
Ben Thomas (Smith) was a good happy man, with a girlfriend he could love and confide in. She was the one he wanted, the one he could be with. All of this changes within a minute, Bens life is shattered, broken and all that he knew was lost. His girlfriend died and he was left with guilt for the deaths of Seven people, seven people whos lives he ended on one fateful night. Ben was never able to move on, but he did however try and make up for his own guilt. By drastically changing the lives of Seven people who he felt could use. Ben was a tax collector, a man who could make you or break you. Ben decides it is time for people to get good news. He helps Emily Posa (Dawson) Ezra Turner (Harrleson) and 5 other people. All the while dealing with his own guilt and remorse, while realizing changing seven people doesnt make up for the Seven lives he took. Ben doesnt ever forgive himself, which leads to some tragic results for those he is trying to help.
Ben Thomas is a man divided by his own thoughts. He is challenging whether or not he is a good person or not. Does he deserve another chance at life, the chance to be happy. Ben is a man that the audience hates to begin with, he comes off as an arrogant jerk at the beginning, but that is easily explained near the end. Ben then goes from the object of everyones hatred to the one people will give there pity to. Ben is truly a dynamic character, who changes his views 3 times in less than 2 hours. He is a greatly developed, with characteristics that people can relate to as well as loathe at the same time. Ben hurts himself for the greater outcome, which the makes the audience see him as someone that they dont understand. Some people may even go as far as to say it is impossible to see why he did what he did.
With a character so impressively developed, it seems that there could be no way to make all of this shine through to the audience. Ben seems like that impossible character that one can only dream of playing, but noone could actually handle all that change and different emotion. Ben is handled though as perfectly as any other character ever developed for a dramatic film. Will Smith is the reason why Ben is who he is to the audience. Will is able to make us feel for Ben and then take it away just like that, because of the character. Will is able to make people view Ben as someone who messed yup and doesnt deserve pity, and doesnt deserve a second chance. It is all up to the individual to make the choice in this one. Some people may agree with Ben getting a second chance and other may not. Will Smith gives what I will call his best acting to date, never has he been so unique, so emotionally challenging. Will has done some awesome stuff, like Pursuit of Happyness (Which I have yet to see) Will has even handled comedy well with his comedic cover character in Bad Boys, and his alcoholic outspoken Hancock. But I have yet to see Will handle such an emotionally driven character, where there is no action to back him out of the perverbial bad acting situation, where there is no over dramatization that can back him out of the cliched corner of doom. This is Will at his finsest, which I will only hope and pray that he continues to do.
Rosario Dawson is a great actress, she is good at what she does, she gets good chances, but sometimes she has failed to hit it big. She failed to impress oin films like Eagle Eye, The Descent and Alexander. All the while making up for it with such films like 25th Hour (Which will remain her best film ever) and Sin City. This film is the next film that can be added to her short but impressive list of greats. She plays Emily Posa, a woman who suffers from Heart Failure and will die unless she gets a heart. Ben stumbles upon her, making sure that she doesnt have to pay her taxes in the alotted time. He gives her an extension and they become really great friends. Ben helps her out around her house, and she tries to understand who he is a person, all the while he tries so desperatley to pull away not revealing to her who he really is, and what it is he had done to end up there with her.Emily just continues to see Ben as a guardian angel, someone sent there to watch over her, and give her one last bit of happiness before she dies from the disease that has been eating away at her for her whole life. Ben becomes much more than that, which is where the summary of Emily and Ben will have to stop due to the revealing of spoilers.
This film is driven, by rich and deep emotions that will touch your soul, if not you need to see someone for some help. It is one of the most realistic accounts of human emotion and guilt to ever be seen on the bog screen. There were atleast 3 scenes that brought me to the edge of tears, because of how poweful and moving real life depictions can be. Never before has there been a film that slowly reveals the pain of its protagonist, while it also tries to get you to hate the protaganist for what he was done. This film is probably the most honest and sincere piece of filmmaking since 21 Grams. This is the first emotionally charged film that I couldnt tear my eyes off of since I watched Sean Penn tear apart the script he was given for 21 Grams. Will Smith is the glue that holds this masterpiece together. It appears good from the trailers, but once you leave the theatre you realize it is so much better than you could have ever envisioned it would be.
This film is one to be seen, its heart wrenching, intense, ming boggling, deep, understandable and still it leaves you wanting to talk, wanting to cry wanting to reach our and help someone why may need it. A deep and great film that a lot of people will have mixed emotions about.
As of this point There will be Spoilers. I wrote a review of the film with little to no revealing of the plot. If you have not seen the film yet and plan on doing so then do not read on because I will talking about some scenes that I rather enjoyed out of this film
The first scene that pops into my mind when discussing this is right at the beginning when Ben Thomas stops by the room of Inez the older lady in the hospital. Ben is deciding whether or not Stuart Goodman deserves an extension on his taxes, and upon talking with Inez Ben realizes that Stuart does not care for his patients the way he should. It is left to the audience to see that Goodman is mistreating his patients by not taking care of them, not washing them and then trying to come off as a good man. This scene is powerful, just like many more to come, it shows what Ben is doing, it gives an insight to the help he wishes to give, before ever revealing the wrong he did. This scene gave Ben an identity as a good man, a helpful man.
The Second scene that comes to mind when thinking about this film is the Car accident scene. When Ben looks down at his phone to read the text messages and he drifts over the yellow line. This scene is the one scene that differs from all the rest. Its gives us Ben Thomas in a new light, a man who may have been driven by guilt in order to save the lives of Seven strangers, without the accident, he probably would have never even decided to save those Seven people. It makes you think though that those Seven people could have either died, or been left the way they were simply because Ben might not have had his accident. It makes you question whether or not Ben is in it for the greater good or just to make himself feel better about who he is.
There are a lot of scenes that stick out in this film, but probably none will stick with you as much as the the talk with Dr/Briar/ suicide scene. Ben asks the doctor about Emilys chances of survival and shes that it is very low with maybe a three percent chance that she could live or that she could find a heart. Ben is then shown at his appartment where he fills up his bath tub with ice and gets in with a deadly jellyfish that ultimately kills him. Then it flashes to Emily whos pager goes off and she looks for Ben. Ben is not there, as the audience already knows because he is the one giving her the heart. This scene really does bring you to the verge of tears. It is so flawlessly shot, and the emotions, the perspectives, the reality and the sadness are all caught with such gracefulness that one can only try and hold back the tears. Ben is shown once again as the tragic hero, the one we can all relate to after having done something wrong that ends up harming others. Ben is shown as the man who will give great sacrfices, all the while we the audience know what he has done and why it is he is left feeling his has no other choice but to end his life this way. Ben ends the film as someone of great change, someone who after doing something wrong decided to make up for his wrong. In the end Ben took the lives of 8 people, one being himself, but ultimately if you look at it in a positive manner, Ben saved people, it doesnt make up for it, because that is how it was meant to be. Somethings have no real explanation, but in the end the only life that didnt fit in to the whole it is your time to go was Ben himself. He purposely changed his timing, he wasnt meant to die in the car accident, because he was meant to love again to give himself to love, to make up for what he did.
It was a great film, despite being a little depressing and somewhat a downer, this film will hit you later on when you get home from seeing it. A great film that everyone should see and embrace as the her-tragedy it is.
It was a movie story about the one and only voyage of what was supposed to be an unsinkable ship, the titanic was not supposed to sik but that wasnt the case on april 15th, 1915 the tianic struck and ice berg and sank killing thousands of men and women and young children. In this film their is a love that is formed betwwen to passengers rose and jack ,allthought they werent supposed to be together because they came from different worlds they tried to make it work, and when the ship starts going down they race against time to find a way out make it out alive so that they can be together.
Not leos best performance to date, but one that is accepted by many do to the film it comes from, the role demanded passion and emotions from leo that he didnt bring, allthough i must say say that this film but alot of pressure on him to deliver and he wasnt that bad.
Kate winslet was Brilliant as Rose loved the romance betweem her and jack it actually looked like true love, she brought the romance the worry and all that was asked of her in this role of rose, it was a hard role to pull off and make believable but she did and she deserves credit.
James Cameron took control of a film that had to be amazing or hollywood would nver forgive, he had alot riding on him and he brought a movie with a brilliant story that is truem but added a bit more action and twists to keep the audoence watching.
The set recreation of the beatiful three story titanic was amazing well, it was what everyone pictured after hering the story, the chandeliers and the lobby were so elegant and really amazing to see.
The Special affects were absolutley stunning, like when the ship was sinking and it split in half and when jack and rose were trying to help the people out. The ending and the ship sinking was truly a sad event, it was one that made peole cer especially to see that the rich people always get what thry want and some people get left behind over that, it was sad to see that mother reading to her children while the ship filled up, and it was sad to see those to older people lying in bed, it was an amazing movie that brought the true emotions in everyone, if you didnt cry while watching this movie then you didnt understand what it meant and what happened, if you didnt cry then you have no emotions, and if you didnt cry then you obviously watched a different version.
James Cameron Wrote an directed one of the best films to ever come out of hollywood and leo was good but not amazing, but watch this movie for kate winslet and the marvellous recreation of one of the most tradgoc events of all time

Sean Penn, Benicio Del Torro and Naomi Watts are gems. They shine at their brightest. This is there peak. None of them will ever reach the height, they had for this one. Penn lead and Del Torro and Watts supported, this dark sad eye opening drama, that is full of twists and turns.
Its hard to believe that Sean Penn was over looked for an academy ward. His performance was there, shocking, smart, brilliant, any big word to describe it. Sean Penn is amazing, never for once does he let down, in what becomes his film. This film is all about him and the emotions of Paul, the lingering affects of not being able to move on, and how hatrd it can be to start over. Penn delivers one of the finest performances of his career, and one of the grandest of all times.
21 grams is all about coincidence and the mistakes of one person and how they can ulitimately affect more than just you. Jack didnt stop to help the people he hit, which caused them to die. Paul would not have had a heart if Jack would have stopped and Cristina would still have her family. No Matter how hard they all tried, someone still would have died in the end. Paul moves on trying to build a connection with Cristina, trying to make her feel like she has someone. Abandonning his own wife who just simply wants to have his child. He comforts Cristina and his heart begins to fail. His heart that he got from Cristinas husband is about to fail and on top of that Jack just got released from Prison. It all comes crashing down for the three main characters with a shocking conclusion that could have never been predicted.
21 Grams is an amazing drama, shocking, eye opening and tearjerking.
Frank abangale lied his way into alot of trouble with law, it begin at the age of 16 when he ran away from home and didnt have any money only a bank account with 25$ in it, Frnak started making bank accounts making fake checks and running around the U.s using many different names and taking many different jobs. When FBI carl Hanratty learns of his wherabouts he is on his way to find him which leads to the ulitimate adeventure.
The success of steven Speilberg is evident in such films as E.T and Minority report, but this film was that tough of a job for him all he had to do was sit back and let his actors before and this film would end up hit and thats exactly what it is.This film is"Suprmely Entertaining" like its tagline reads and is really fun to watch.
the cast was lead by two willing and two very capable actors in Leonardo dicaprio and Tom Hanks. Leo who portrays Frank is brilliant palying a man of such high intelligence, This character was well developped cause it was based on a real life person. Its been said that portryaing real live characters is alot harder due to the fact that everyone knows what they were like when they lived and they want the portrayal to pitch perfect and leo was perfect.
The supporting Cast was lead up Christopher Walken who is brilliant in no matter role he takes one and can play any type of character usually playing a shaddy and mysterious type of Character, he made this film even better playing Franks father.
This film was set in many different locasions and was brillantly portrayed, The changes of scenery wherever they went in this film was awesome. Its not like everything still looked the same allthough they went from New york to l.A
Alot of explanation was needed for this film, for example when Frank was making his checks they explained how hw did it and how the fbi realized it was a fake. This film would have been really confusing without the explanation and it was really good to see that they had one.
Their wasnt alot for soecial affects but it was one of this films that was still good without it, This film was good cause they explained, cause the actors were amazing and cause the story was well known.
The only thing that was wrong with this film was the ways in which Frank kept escaping were alamost a copy of the previous, he always managed to slip out that millisecond before the cops arrived, but if he would have been caught to early yhen the film would have been boring so it plays out in the end to amke a brilliant film.
Very enjoyable for a young audience cause the language is very suitable with very little awearing and very little inapropriate talk allthough their were a couple of sex scenes not a bad film for the young teenage audience.
Please everyone see this film someday, its fairly good, and is totally enjoyable from start to finish and Tom Hanks and Leo Dicaprio are fabtastic
After being elected President, Nelson Mandela wanted to find away to unite his nation. He was tried of all the back and forth hatred between the races. He needed a way to bring these people together and unite them through a universal cause and that is sports. With the Rugby World Cup approaching, Mandela looks to take a team that has been struggling and turn them into champions.
2009 has been an up and down year as far as films. Here is my chance to recap. You had comedy with a hint of drama in Funny People. There was mafia drama with Public Enemies and there was downright raunchy comedy with The Hangover. But when this preview aired over my television screen, I instantly fell in love with the story. There is nothing better than a real life story built around coming together. Mandela was an inspirational man, one we all could take lessons from. Mandela had no hatred, he just wanted to bring peace and unity, and he did everything he could to fulfil this goal. This film was different from all other films in 09 because it was realistically moving and courageous in its efforts. Easily one of the best films of 09 and one of the best films you can ever watch.
When you catch a film like this, you hope that the message can inspire a new generation or keep the message alive. I was 4 years old at the time of these events, and I can honestly say after viewing this on screen Mandela has become another person who symbolized hope and freedom. I got interested in what it is Mandela stood for a few years ago when I took world history. I just liked his charisma and his winning attitude and all those radiated through Freeman. Freeman lived and breathed the performance, and you could hardly tell this was acting. I felt moved, awed and even inspired to make changes, to go out and accomplish something, because as Mandela and Pineaar proved to us, nothing is impossible if you want it bad enough.
The sports parts were even intense, not drawn out or over dramatized, they packed a wallop and you could feel like you were a part of the game, you cheered and closed your eyes in dramatic scenes. You literally felt like you were sitting at Ellis Park Stadium hoping and cheering a nation that had finally come together. This film was one of those films you felt good after viewing, the experience made you whole, the film was intriguing, you could feel these characters coming together and you could feel the pride of a nation shifting from despair to hope.
I respect this film and what it was, I enjoyed this film and what it gave me, and being 4 days before Christmas, I really felt hope and joy, and this film helped me get excited for Christmas. The positive message was one we can all embrace even if we don?t necessarily enjoy rugby. Enjoy it for Mandela and let his message live on. You can never have enough hope, and positivity so go and see this film and spread its joy.
It all starts with a simple drug bust in the middle of the mexican desert. Where two police officers Javier (Del torro) and Manolo(Vargas) who are waiting in the desert and they happen to get lucky and make a major bust. Then it switches to Washington, D.C where Robert Wakefield (Douglas) is about to be named the Drug Czar and is about to begin a major war against drugs. That all seems fine until he discovers that his daughter Caroline (Christensen) and her boyfriend Seth (Grace) are on drugs. Then It is time for us to meet Ray (Guzman) and Monte (Cheadle) two San Diego cops looking to bust up the drugs coming from Mexico to San Diego. The bust Eddie Ruiz (Ferrer) who is willing to Rat on his boss if they give him a deal. Carlos(Bauer) and his wife Helena (Zeta Jones) are implemented along with Eddie Ruiz. Who is connected to Salazar(Milian) who just so happens to connected to Javier and Manolo.
Shocking, visonary and truthful. That is the film Steven Soderbergh made. Striaght to the point, drugs will mess you up, they wi;ll get into your head and they will disrupt all that you know.Drugs are not a game that a person wants to get mixed up in. It shatters your world, it kills the ones you love.
There are some memorable performances from this film. Benico Del Torro as Javier really stands out. He won an award for it. Javier just wants to be a cop until he is offered something more, the chance to be a hero, the chance to fight against drugs. The only thing he doesnt know is that he is just a pawn in the neevr ending cycle of who can be the better drug trafficer. Its a vicious game to be caught up in and when Javier and Manolo want out, it becomes to late and they are forced to make choices. Riveting portrayl by De Torro, he manages to portray his character as selfless as well as arrogant. Javier would do anything for Manolo and his girlfriend, while trying to maintain the front that he is working solely for himself.
Luiz Guzman and Don Cheadle as two partnered cops. Straight from scene one these two are the jokesters of the film. Just trying to lighten up a situation that shines no light. Ray and Monte want the bust, they will stop at nothing to get, literally nothing. They are the ones who are legitmately the good guys in the story. They are the cops, non corrupted, straight edge cops. Good performances by Don and Luiz.
Michael Douglas is not to bad either. His performace may not reach the level of Say Del torro or Cheadle., but it is still a powerful one where he delivers. Robert is just trying to make a living for his family and be a family man, but he spends a lot of time out on the road for his job. That gives his daughter Caroline the chance to pick up a habit. She begins to snort cocaine. Erika Christensen and Topher Grace really nailed it. When down and out, they would do anything for drugs. Caroline would even sell herself for them.
This film really depicts all negative aspects of drugs. From Mexico to San Diego, To Washington D.C itself, drugs really hit home for many people.A lot of the characters never really ever come face to face. Javier never meets Robert or Caroline. Monte and Ray dont meet Jvier and Manolo. but none the less they are all involved in a major drug trafficing problem. The characters are well developped and feature many emotions, great film.
Here is a quote from Seth
Seth Abrahams: Woah. Why don't you just back the fuck up, man. "To this place"? What is that shit? Ok, right now, all over this great nation of ours, 'hundred thousand white people from the suburbs are cruisin' around downtown asking every black person they see "You got any drugs? You know where I can score some drugs?" *Think* about the effect that that has on the psyche of a black person, on their possibilities. I... God I guarantee you bring a hundred thousand black people into your neighborhood, into fuckin' Indian Hills, and they're asking every white person they see "You got any drugs? You know where I can score some drugs?", within a *day* everyone would be selling. Your friends. Their kids. Here's why: it's an unbeatable market force man. It's a three-hundred percent markup value. You can go out on the street and make five-hundred dollars in two hours, come back and do whatever you want to do with the rest of your day and, I'm sorry, you're telling me that... you're telling me that white people would still be going to law school?
Sorry about the swearing. If anyone reads this review and is offended by the quote then send me a message.
Seth is saying that you can make so much many selling and dealing, that you dont have to school. Drugs are a problem, but the money being racked in from it will keep a person in there. That is probably the best quote from the whole film. It is a quote that makes sense, but it hurts to hear it. It is a forceful quote with power and meaning. A meaning that doesnt make sense. Drugs are illegal and hurt people yet people would risk themselves a life sentence. For what, five hundred dollars in 2 hours. It doesnt seem worth it.
Here is one last quote.
Robert Wakefield: What are your policies towards treatment of addiction? General Salazar: Treatment of addiction? Addicts treat themselves. They overdose and then there's one less to worry about
This quote is sad. They wont do anything to help the addiction. They let it happen because there is nothing they can do. They dont have the money, the government doesnt care and the people undaffected by it dont care to help people out. Traffic is a pianful relaity of a film. It will divide your thoughts and dreams and will force you to take a side. It will leave you thinking for a long while after it is over.
this movie had one of the greates stories ever put into a movie i really enjoyed the story. the movie wasnt to long the didnt drag it out, which is a big problem with movies today. i loved this movie please make angels and demons
