| The Killing of a Chinese Bookie - R | This movie is all about the filler between the brief moments of action. All the musical numbers in the night club, a visit to the girls' houses, these moments captured on hand-held cameras with grainy live sound make this the only gangster movie worth watching. | December 13, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Peeping Tom - Unrated | Admittedly all the subtleties, psychological and freudian underpinnings are a little obvious and shallow, but all the same this movie is very impressive. And even these missteps can be forgiven since it gives the movie a certain older aesthetic and doesn't hamper the rest of the film's vision so much. I mean, what a take on cinema! The best filmmakers are all peeping toms, really. | December 13, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Fata Morgana - Unrated | Hippy-dippy stuff but in a way very charming and honest, for the most part. At first I was turned off by it a bit, it seemed kind of indulgent, but after thinking about it some more I would watch this again. I will say Leonard Cohen sucks but other than that the soundtrack was really excellent. The movie is lopsided, but the good moments make it worth seeing and worth giving it lots of credit. | December 8, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Across the Universe - PG-13 | Awful, really awful. For sixteen year olds and saps. Listen to the beatles' music again, talk to someone who grew up in the 60's, and realize how much this movie waters down its subject matter. | November 28, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Warum Lauft Herr R. Amok? (Why Does Herr R. Run Amok?) - Unrated | Good, a little bland but that's partly to add to the film's dryness. Harsh movie, very obvious but in a way still pretty rewarding. | November 28, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Lessons of Darkness - Unrated | This film is absolutely insane. Highly highly impressionable, what a cultimation and personification, through imagery, of humanity's absurdness. This movie will make you feel very small. Beyond brilliant. | November 28, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Pulp Fiction - R |
Last review needed some work, didn't get across what I wanted to say: This movie is very stupid in many ways. I'm definitely over watching a gangster movie and thinking it's anything interesting or worthwhile, since I've seen so many and they're all exactly the same. However, Pulp Fiction does try and get at something pure and true about people, how people interact and how they get along with each other, all in this shitty L.A. setting. But so much of the movie isn't even worthwhile; the drug overdose, the dude getting fucked in the ass, all of Samuel Jackson's random babbling that's supposed to look cool, all this just scratches a surface of depth and quality that I expect from good movies. |

| The Beaver Trilogy - Unrated | For the original short. Sean Penns one is awful, no surprise there, Crispin Glovers is alright but also kinda hokey and fails to get the message of the original. The first one though is beyond brilliant. | September 9, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Sin City - R | August 27, 2009 | N/A | ||||
| They Live - R | Carpenter deserves some credit, parody on a real extravagant level. | August 21, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Faustrecht der Freiheit (Fox and His Friends) (Fist-Fight of Freedom) - Unrated | An almost absurdly simple story that is understated, yet blunt and violently truthful in the delivery of its themes. Fassbinder treats his audience like adults, something that is really lacking in most movies these days. Refreshing and relevating. | August 4, 2009 | N/A | |||
| A Woman Under the Influence - R | Never would've thought I'd enjoy drama movies, let alone domestic dramas but that was before i knew of Cassavetes. Here is the dissolution of a marriage but not through infidelity, like in Faces. The characters do love each other, but they face personal demons, Rowland's insanity and Falk's anger, which push them apart. Tragic masterpiece. | August 3, 2009 | N/A | |||
| The Wicker Man - PG-13 | At parts just boring, but there are definitely moments where you will laugh your ass off. Anyone with a brain can tell this movie is a hillarious joke, a bizarre mess, and it should be enjoyed as that. | August 3, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Såsom i en Spegel (Through A Glass Darkly) - Unrated | Wasn't as taken aback by this when i first saw it. Now, though, I think its got to be one of the harshest films I've seen. Amazing shit, much more cruel than Wild Strawberries. | July 31, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Fargo - R | This movie is still real good, it has alot of smart shit going for it. It's black comedy through and through, although McDormand's character is this redemptive, likable hero who doesn't fall victim to the cynicism of the rest of the movie. In some ways thats probably why people say this one is more mainstream than other Coen movies. | July 31, 2009 | N/A | |||
| The Firm - Unrated | Way more disturbing than films which are much more explicit in their depictions of violence and brutality, ala clockwork orange. The stupid futility of all the testerone fueled aggression that goes on for the entire fucking movie comes out in the last few minutes of the film. | July 31, 2009 | N/A | |||
| The Bride of Frankenstein - Unrated | July 29, 2009 | N/A | ||||
| Public Enemies - R | Goddamn boring ass shit. generic mob movie with good actors and a real real bad script. Stupid fucked up camera too. | July 1, 2009 | N/A | |||
| George Washington - Unrated | The beginning is literally exactly like the thin red line but don't be fooled this movie is incredible. very rewarding, heartfelt and introspective, excellent excellent. | June 18, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Big Trouble in Little China - PG-13 | haha this movie is crazy. i read somewhere its a big satyr on reagan era america, inflated ego and guns a blazing bravado personified in kurt russell. but whatever the case pretty cool movie. | June 8, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Scanners - R | this movie would be way better if the main actor wasn't so shitty. Cronenberg's early movies really hold up i think, even compared to his string of 90s art films. | June 8, 2009 | N/A | |||
| In a Lonely Place - Unrated | Very underappreciated. Way ahead of its time, just like Nicholas Ray's Rebel Without a Cause. Darker and grittier than most films of its times, Bogarts character has real depth. | June 3, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Made in Britain - PG-13 | Perfect display of pissed off dont give a fuck youth. Absolutely brilliant Tim Roth is the best. Also for all americans who still think england is a victorian world of pompous rotten teeth intellectuals: watch this movie. | May 30, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Weekend (Week End) - Unrated | I hear conor on this one but i still give godard props. This is his last movie before the 68 uprising in france so its his most self-indulgent. Very radical but very brilliant. | May 30, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Funny Games - R | This movie pushed some serious buttons for me. And I've seen some fucked up films, I'm not talking Kubrick/ Lynch type shit. However, the movie's self-awareness gives it a lot of depth and I guess justifies the violence. | May 30, 2009 | N/A |
