The Twilight Saga: New Moon
PG-13
I did like it, I really did. I've seen it twice now, once with the rabid teenagers at the theater and once alone. What I don't understand is the people saying this movie follows so closely to the book. I've read all four books at least twice and while this does fit into the overall outline of the book, there are LARGE chunks missing and odd things changed. I think for me the directorial style of Chris Weitz doesn't lend itself well to this series. Twilight had an overall ethereal feeling to it that raised it above the Teenage Harlequin with Vampires theme. The music, vocal and incidental were both modern and mystical. I think Stephanie Meyer said it best on her website when she said Weitz's style is more traditional. Traditional just doesn't work for this type of movie. I remember thinking that the heavy orchestral accompaniment was dragging the whole story and pace of the movie down.
However, the effects were GREAT! And I'm of the "I don't want to know how he put on those 30 lbs" club with Taylor but if I were 20 years younger, I'd be all about that poster on the wall, or ceiling...

I had never read the comics so I went into this as a completely blank slate, as it were. I was absolutely gobstopped. Groundbreaking cinematography, mind-blowing story premise, tight well written script and phenomenal acting. THIS is one where Keanu displayed his true talent. And this is also in that genre of movie where, while rife with violence, it also portrays a bizarre beauty to the violence.
