Never Cry Werewolf - Unrated Okay, this wasn't a good movie, but after the corny/amusing title fished me in, I was pleasantly surprised to find some nice practical effects on the monster. That aside, there's some silly plot-twists in here, average or less acting skills and a climax that features what we're meant to see as a 16 yr old girl running around in her bra, which kinda makes me feel weird for watching the film in the first place.

A cable viewing or rental at best.

Mindhunters - R Has a few interesting moments, but for the most part kills off what I'd consider to be the main star talent early in the film, leaving us with a bunch of bit players and one or two too many switcheroos to make me give a shit who the killer really is.

Cable viewing or rental at best.

Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation! - R This flick was SO much fun, lots of behind the scenes with many of the people who made the Aussie Exploitation films of the 70's and 80's. Just a great look at a lot of relatively unknown films that will have any cinephile chomping at the bit to track down a slew of new films.

Jack Brown Genius - Unrated It's kind of a cute story of a quirky inventor possessed by the spirit of an ancient monk, but the special effects are dated, the tone is oddly children's movie-esque, so I wasn't sure what to make of this once I was in the thick of it.

There's a few funny bits, but for the most part it's pretty harmless and forgettable.

High Plains Drifter - R A nicely stylized Eastwood flick, starring the man himself as a mysterious nameless character who turns up to wreak havoc on the townspeople in the face of their fears about 3 outlaws returning. The town turns to him for his skills with a gun, but they don't quite know what they're in for when they barter with this man who seems to know more about them than he's letting on.

A really fun film, Eastwood reveling in the anti-hero role, it's well worth a look.

Full Battle Rattle - Unrated A rather wild look at the training camp set up in the Mojave desert to mimic the conditions of Iraq for the purposes of training soldiers for deployment. The film follows both the military men as well as the character actors within the 'village' who are given scripted prompts and elaborate back stories to work with to develop their characters and how they feel about the occupying U.S. forces.

At turns disturbing, funny and downright depressing, this film is well worth a look.

The Day the Earth Stood Still - PG-13 Uh, yeah, so morbid curiosity and cable got the better of me...

It's not completely awful, but it's rather pointless in the end, and while Jennifer Connelly is easy on the eyes, you can find her in better stuff than this nonsense.

Rental at best.

The House of the Devil - R A fun film, slow moving and atmospheric, this one teases you along with the 80's era setting and style, building to some nicely creepy bits in the final act.

May not be the most fun for anyone looking for a lot of action, but for fans of the slow burn, this is a good bet.

Give it a rental.

Ong Bak 2 - R Basically an hour and a half stunt reel, which are impressive, but much too light on plot for my tastes.

Happy Birthday to Me - R This was something I finally got around to seeing in honor of my birthday, and the film is an average slasher with some memorable kills, one of the most notorious being the one on the cover of the DVD.

One of those films that may fall through the cracks, but has some fun moments and some corny bits worth heckling while waiting for the next death.

¿Quién puede matar a un niño? (Who Can Kill a Child?)(Death is Child's Play)(Island of the Damned) - R The story of a couple who travel to a remote village only to find that the children have run amuck and killed all the adults. It's widely well regarded among horror fans, but I think I might've missed the boat on this one. It's not a bad film, I just wasn't very sold on any thing the couple did while on the island.

I think i felt slightly put off by this film for the sheer fact that the husband sees a 12 yr old girl kill an elderly man in fron tof him, and he doesn't take his pregnant wife and LEAVE, he continues to wander-ass around this deserted village (ven lying to his wife about what he saw), he may as well have been wearing a sign reading 'Kill Me" across his chest.

It's worth a look and pre-dates Children Of The Corn by roughly a decade.

I Love You Beth Cooper - PG-13 This film wasn't as laugh out loud as people may've wanted it to be, but for a fan of the novel, it hits all the right bits pretty damned well. It's charming and sweet and just a little over the top with the nutty antics to remind you that you're watching a farcical flick and not events that are meant to take place in the real world.

Well worth a rental

The Fugitive - PG-13 Gave it a re-watch in my effort to dent the ever-growing pile of films I own but haven't watched since I purchased them.

Still holds up rather well, Tommy Lee Jones 'good old boy' Marshall is just awesome and Ford is convincing as the man on the run, desperate to clear his name.

Well worth another look, it's well written and well acted.

G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra - PG-13 While this was not as much of a disappointment as I was expecting, it was still far from a good film.

I liked Sienna Miller in leather, but this thing had a lot of issues that even that couldn't distract from. There were bits that were fun, and as far as a big dumb action flick goes it's passable, and was fun to see elements of my childhood interest in a live action film, though the end result is rather bastardized.

A rental, see if it's to your taste?

Streets of Fire - PG A strange hybrid of music and period settings makes for an interesting watch, but I'll be damned if it didn't fish me in completely.

Walter Hill directs another Warriors-esque film, set around the music industry of a depressed city, with our heroes trying to get home safe through hostile territory. Young Diane Lane looks great, and Michael Pare delivers his film noir-ish lines like a young Stallone, it's a fun mix.

Give it a rental at the very least.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Il Buono, il Brutto, il Cattivo.) - R Another film recently purchased on Blu-ray, it looks stunning in hi def, and the large panoramas really work as Leone lets things just sort of happen in front of his camera before pulling in tight on someone's eyes for the reaction shots.

Truly one of the best westerns ever made, and well worth a look to the few who haven't seen it.

Requiem for a Dream - R Gave this film a re-watch for a review of the Blu-ray.

Still amazingly effective and monumentally depressing all the way around, Aronofsky has captured the downbeat feeling of the novel really well, filling it with his own stylistic flourishes.

Well worth a look if you're feeling too good about life in general or humanity.

Highly recommended.

Tapeheads - R This was something I'm ashamed to say that I waited this long to check out!

Cusack and Robbins as the two buddies trying to get a music video career going is amusingly dated now, but so much fun to watch. The rise of their career and involvement in a political scandal is also very 80's feeling to me, but is still well worth a look.

Give it a rental.

XXX - PG-13 Gave it another look, and man alive, it's all so extreme it just makes me cringe. They manage to have him work his way through all the sports in the X-Games in the course of 2 hours, thank God they were able to work in that snow-boarding sequence, eh?

I like Vin Diesel well enough, but him cast as this utterly resourceful super-spy is stretching my abilities to suspend disbelief just a little too thin, sorry folks. Asia Argento is pretty sultry as always, but that's probably her reading the newspaper as well, so it's probably not much of a performance, is it?

Has a few good moments, but otherwise isn't all that compelling.

Rental at best.

Road House - R Just gave this a re-watch, and man, it's so corny, so 80's, so over the top, but my God is it a fun watch. When there's not something to make fun of, there's a fun fight, when there's not a fight, there's the occasional breast, seriously, what's not to like about this dumbass movie?

Well worth another look if you're not too much of a snob about your film entertainment.
