After going in with such low expectations due to hearing so many bad reviews, I was quite surprised by how much I enjoyed this movie! What film did these critics watch? The action was fantastic and balanced well in such a dark story about the fight between humanity and machine. A couple of great nostalgic moments with the film paying homage towards the original Terminator movies. Awesome direction with a thorough storyline and screenplay - very much looking forward to the sequels!
J.J. Abrams' fingerprints are very apparent with this movie - fantastic action throughout with a perfect balance of humanity which creates a fervent thriller. A definite favourite.
A road-trip movie for nerds! Very funny; very geeky; the infinite amount of Star Wars quotes and references were fantastic! Cameos from numerous stars from the movies and other shows definitely helped make this movie, as it may not have held up by itself otherwise. Loved it.
Honestly, I was disappointed, mainly by the second half of the story if not most of the screenplay. There were far too many characters that were just thrown in and given no development and they didnt even give much of a contribution to the film! Continuity errors appeared left, right and centre with the links between this origin story and the X-Men films, which was also shame. Overall it was enjoyable, and the direction was certainly beautiful, but its damn annoying when you expect so much from a film to then feel pretty annoyed at knowing its potential wasnt fulfilled.
Ron Howard is certainly a master of epic direction; each shot captivating and beautiful, even if just the reflection in a car door! As a film I loved it, keeping up a decent pace with maybe a few lags, Tom Hanks is a fantastic actor, as is McGregor (although his screen time wasnt enough). I am happy in my ignorance with having not yet read the book so I cant make any comparisons; though I will be sure to update my review accordingly.
Wow. Just wow. Never been a Trekkie, but this revamp has certainly converted me to Abrams' visionary take on the universe. Both emotive, funny and full of action. It was visually epic with beautiful direction and amazing cinematography. Great script, great story, great acting. I was hooked from the start and kept in awe right to the end.
Pants acting for the most part, the story could have been portrayed a hell of a lot better and the script was pretty painful. With a remake due in 2010 let's just hope they work on all of that. It's gross enough as it is without the tree-rape as well.
