Inland Empire - R what a nightmare.well,at least better than Mulholland drive,in my opinion December 30, 2009

Gerry - R with GERRY, van sant finally proves that, no other director in the world that could makes me bored to death more than him and his films. This is just another nutso pretentious filmaking. it is a shame that he claimed that his influence for this is Bella Tarr .isince do love Tarr (especially Werckmeister Harmonies), believe me,Tarr work is far,far more superior. Yi Yi - Unrated when it appears in almost every critics decade list,my curiousity to watch this film increased intensively.,and now i have watch it,i'm gonna said that, though its good, but it's not the "masterpiece" everyones seems to judge. There is one problem with this film:its overlong run time. For 3 hours, there are some scenes that feels unnecesary, but i do understand that, since, Yang wants to provided all the aspects of life (birth, death, wedding, funeral, love, betrayal, all about anything),and to captured it in just '3 hour' is quite an achievement.and it works.
So,while i though this is a complete and excellent drama, this will come nowhere near my top of decade list

Hable con Ella (Talk to Her) - R my favorite (and the one i could really connect ) Almodovar film to date ! the power of Talk To Her is its engaging story about love and friendship, and also the "film within a film", which i think is the best i've ever seen December 29, 2009

Russian Ark - Unrated very astonishing. this is a rare experience Sokurov has given,an exhilarating journey of Russian history through one single unedited 96 minutes.,my awe of this technical superiority exceeds it lacks of narrative, that could produces some sort of ultimate boredom.,damn brilliant ! Innocence - R when i thought this is just another boarding school film..,well,this is waayy beyond that..very different, refreshing, and quite unsettling,INNOCENCE is an eerie and luscious form of art from Lucile Hadzihalilovic.,with many simbolic metaphors and beautiful green-ish cinematography (just look at the poster!),.and the film also has its moments of tension and mystery.with a resolution that cannot be described easily, probably the best fairy tale about young women i've ever seen, only second to Pan's labyrinth December 28, 2009

Vengeance - Unrated even worse than election,.this is just another pure style over substance (and here it comes from the mind who loves style so much !) December 28, 2009

Election (Hak se wui) - Unrated here's what i didn't like about Johnnie to(and this film,in particular): he always created a nice set-up, until the story getting frenzier and lose focus.he have such wonderful style, though, remembrance of Hong-kong 90's action films December 28, 2009

My Life Without Me - R an emotional and heartwrenching drama,.featuring Sarah Polley at quite possibly her greatest role.also featuring a brief glimpse of aalfred molina. The part in which she wrotes notes about "things to do before die"is simply powerful December 28, 2009

Mikro Eglima (Small Crime) - Unrated at first i thought this would be just another usual romantic comedy..but then comes the ending, which is so twisty and ironic..but then comes again another extended ending, which neutralize my judgment, that it is,indeed, just another usual romantic comedy December 27, 2009

The Bothersome Man (Den Brysomme mannen) - Unrated who the hell is Jens Lien ??!! after watching this,he is definitely on my watch list. This is one of the most surprising film i've ever watch,in term of expectation. i didn't know that there are such a film like this, which combines the surreal world and strange story of Carlie Kauffman with the elegant, beautifu, moody cinematography and camera work of Wong-Kar-wai ! December 27, 2009

Avatar - PG-13 i wait 12 years for this? THIS??well,Avatar is surely didn't worth the wait. this is an uninspiring and cliche laden motion picture, dressed with a high -end technology and over the top special effects.

from the story perspective,it is no different that another "oh no,i found that the enemy culture and civilization is much more interesting than mine, and is the real good side". This is a premise that hollywood often doing in the past (most notable is,Dances with Wolves and The Last Samurai).along with another cliche of a tough mentor, love in the air,and baddie corporation,.makes the story side of AVATAR is the weakest.

so while the story didn't work, the special effects will help, right?no. okay i admit i was blown away by the first 15 minutes. it is really, a groundbreaking technology that cameron has created here. The pandora is well created and very beautiful. but after 15 minutes,it is all become repetitive.unlike LOTR,when there's every new place and magic in every 20 minutes or so,in AVATAR, the scenery is all about the green jungle,or the flying mountain.just that. also, the Na'vi is not believable enough (again, i compared it with the LOTR,which has a far more believable creature like Gollum) for me to rooted for them.

Last is the acting.probably in this department that there is something to salvage. Worthington once again proves that he is a future movie star. he has the looks, and the charisma of a movie stars. Next year CLASH OF THE TITANS will justified his position,we'll see. Sigourney Weaver also shows the same strength she did in ALIEN. her character is a really tough one.other supporting cast, such as Zoe Saldana,Michelle Rodriguez, and Giovani Ribisi, did enough.

so overall,AVATAR has just thrown DISTRICT 9 from the throne of the most overrated film of 2009. it is just an overhyped, extravagant, entertainment, nothing more

Castaway on the Moon (Kimssi pyoryugi) - Unrated trippy rom-com from the always great korean..,the film, while highly unbelievable (and rather silly plot), but it at least always makes me smile. the tone of the film feels very Gondry-an,maybe thats why i love this film December 19, 2009
