American Beauty (1999, R)
A masterpiece from start to finish. Explores the banality of suburban life and what happens when Spacey's character tries to break free and live in the present, much to the consternation of his average American family. Beautifully shot and directed, the film is a deep and yet eminently watchable reflection on the meaning of life, death and happiness within modern culture. The scene with the plastic bag gets me every time! |
