Grew up in England but spent all of my adult life in Germany. Speak English and German fluently but have tried my hand at several other languages too. Have always loved films and cinema but up until recently have had little time to get out and see them. Catching up fast though.

Two For the Money
R
Pretty good film. Pacino plays the mentor - yet again. McConaughey plays naive littlee boy that everyone loves - yet again.
Renee Russo great acting.
Premonition
PG-13
In spite of all the bad critics I really wanted to see this film, I just couldn't believe that Sandra Bullock would be in a film that's so bad.
I'm glad I watched it. This film is right up my street. If you enjoyed films like Number 23 and Lake House then this could be the one for you too.
Hancock
PG-13
Now this was definitely not what I was expecting - most definitely not. However, I actually found it to be highly entertaining. I was roaring with laughter throughout most of it. It definitely has a lot to offer. Action, comedy and drama all powered into one. Just don't expect too much because it will be totally different.
The Sentinel
PG-13
The film was ok but I found it to be long and drawn out in places where it needn't have been because the outcome was so obvious. I don't think the title is right for the film either.

Pride and Prejudice
Unrated
I always loved Jane Austen's book although at school I hated to admit it but Colin Firth turns the book into a XX rated movie.... what a fantastic combination
2.
Love Actually
R
Love actually ... is all around. Not just one story but lots of little ones that at the end all fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. An interesting composition. Witty and touching at the same time.
4.
The English Patient
R
highly recommendable. Ralph Fiennes is fantastic. Wasn't quite so impressed first time but that was due to a lot getting lost in the German translation. The original version is fantastically moving.
5.
The Butterfly Effect
R
This film includes all the twists I love to find in a psycho thriller. What a brilliant storyline. Time travel has always been a point of discussion and the outcome is to be found in this film. Not only the one action you might want to change is changed but everything that happens afterwards. At the end we discover why Evan's father was institutionalised. They both changed the wrong event. By changing the first thing that went wrong Evan no longer had any journals just as his father no longer had his photo albums. The final change was inevitable though this too would probably have caused many other life-changing events. A fantastic film for twisted minds. EDIT: A month or so later I watched this DVD again..... and it had a different ending. Wowww did that freak me out. Until I realised that there are 2 DVDs in the cover and each contains the complete film but... with 2 different endings. Now that really is the coolest thing I've ever experienced. No idea which ending was in the cinemas. I'd like to give it a 6th star for that point alone.

Miracle on 34th Street
PG
I can*t believe I haven't rated this film already and actually needed to be reminded about it. It is my absolute most favourite Christmas film. It includes all the magic without the kitsch. A modern-day upbringing does not of course include childish fantasy and the magical childish belief in Santa Claus..... but children need to believe in magic. They don't need to know the problems of the world at such a young age. Here we learn how wonderful it is to believe even as an adult.

Black Christmas
by BrianThank God, as I'd heard, this film was MUCH better than the pathetic waste of space that was the 2006 remake.
It's not hard to enjoy this film, despite the fact that it was made 34 years ago. Yes, you have to do your best to put yourself in the shoes of a 1974 moviegoer, but it's not too hard.
It was actually creepy, and funny in parts too (intentionally). Also, I laughed at some of the fashion/style of dress (what's up with the white people 'fros?)
Much better and I wish I had seen this one first.Wrong time of the year maybe, but finally got around to seeing this. Worth a rent for sure.
Don't shit your breeches, it's the 1974 version.posted 23 hours ago -

Walking Tall
by MisterForget the remake featuring The Rock, cause it doesn't even compare to the original. However, this was weirdly marketed as a right wing screed upon its initial release in 1973(and became a surprise runaway boxoffice hit especially a huge following within the drive-in theatre circuit in the South).Walking Tall was a really tragic, graphically violent post-noir film based on the life and times of Tennessee county sheriff Buford Pusser. However,Joe Don Baker gives a riveting and powerful performance as Pusser who took on determined force of crime and corruption in his town at great personal expense. Directed with an intentionally crude force by Phil Karlson, one of the toughest filmmakers of the 1950's and 1960's. Here, the film's grimness doesn't let up and neither does the scenes of raw language and strong graphic violence that gave this film a strong influence of the racial stride and hatred that went on in the South. Interesting note about this picture...It was produced by BCP Productions which was Bing Crosby's production company(yes folks,Bing Crosby was still around in 1973)and theatrically released through Cinerama Releasing Corporation. The theme song was done by none other than the great Johnny Mathis. Elizabeth Hartman(plays Pusser's wife) and Noah Beery also star in this runaway boxoffice hit which was one of the highest grossing films of 1973.

Daniel
by MisterOne of the few underrated films of the early 1980's that went unnoticed. This one, among the rarest that a major studio release that enthusiastically portrays America's Old Left, though in this particular story, gloom naturally trumps the enthusiasm. Inspired by the controversial 1953 execution of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg for allegedly passing atomic bomb secrets to the Soviets, director Sidney Lumet's 1983 movie of E.L. Doctorow's fictionalized The Book of Daniel(screenplay by the author),deals primarity with the effect of family notoriety on children. One offspring(Amanda Plummer) is institutionalized, while the other(Timothy Hutton) is a less obvious head case prone to caustic outbursts. With powerful childhood flashbacks,an ill-received(which got mixed reviews for the critics at the height of its release) movie that Lumet, himself regarded as one his best as weathered a quarter-century well remains a bonafide 80's masterpiece of briliant cinema.

Framed
by MisterNext to the pre-Dirty Harry Don Siegel, and not to mention pre-Wild Bunch director Sam Peckinpah,Phil Karlson was Hollywood's best director of low-budget toughies of classic "B" grade films of the 1950's and 1960's. It wasn't until the early 1970's though this career swan song doesn't offer much support for assertion. It wasn't until 1973,when Karlson made a low-budget action flick about a county sheriff who comes in and dismantled the baddies and bigots in a corrupt sleepy Southern town. The film was called "Walking Tall",and it became not only a vigilante brutal display of one man getting back at the system, but it became a call for something else. The film became one of the top ten highest grossing films of that year and it made a unknown actor by the name of Joe Don Baker into a huge star and it spawned two theatrical sequels(that starred Bo Svenson)not to mention a short-lived TV series under the same title.
After the tremendous and runaway boxoffice success of "Walking Tall",actor Joe Don Baker and director Phil Karlson reteamed again in 1975 for this expose of rampant political corruption and low-down dirtness in a sleepy Southern town, not to mention acts of revenge and envy in corrupt Southern state. "Framed" was just as good as it gets with Joe Don Baker, John Marley, and Brock Peters. Only this time around the graphic violence and strong language is ante up for maximum pleasure.Hey, you should really see this!

Hancock
by KhrisNot Will Smith's best movie, but its not really him, its just the fact that was an easy going, enjoyable flick to watch over and over again. XD!!
A real twist of the superhero movie, with some twist and turns, and some great lines and its funny enough... its a good night out, and something people would love to watch. I guess Will Smith and Charlize are the kind of actors people love to watch on screen, they make it look so easy and they are comfortable, which is why the movie pulls it off so well.
Anyways, not much detail for review needed here, its a simple movie to watch, great performances, good jokes and moments, and something out of the ordinary. Which is something I guess all of us would like to see more of these days in the movies.
A real unique movie.Hey, you should really see this!

Shutter
by BrianOK, this has been done before, several times...and the whole, "I see Asian dead people" isn't scary or even creepy, but...
It was still better than I thought it was going to be, and it was nice to see Joshua Jackson in a halfways mainstream film for once. I do think he's a good actor who needs a new agent.
There was a "twist" in the middle which I figured out almost right away and a twist at the end which made it cool and enough to make it worth watching the DVD.
I will say that studios either need to abandon the whole genre tho entirely, or do something to liven it up a bit. Maybe a J horror-inspired ORIGINAL non-remake film that's not totally based on dead people haunting the living...Good for fans of Joshua Jackson, or if you a fan of the genre. Otherwise, nothing too special.

A Thousand Clowns
by KevinYou know those little movies that you absolutely LOVE but hardly anyone else has ever heard of? Those movies that you watch and wonder why no one ever talks about them or praises them or includes them in their list of favorites? Do you know those movies? Well this is one of those movies.
Jason Robards is a middle-aged, unemployed bachelor who is raising his 12-year-old nephew (Barry Gordon) in the heart of New York City. When confronted by representatives from NY social services, Robards is faced with the choice of either conforming to "acceptable" standards (getting a job) or risk losing his nephew to the bureaucracy of the child welfare system.
I have an affinity for cerebral comedies and this is definitely one of the best I've ever seen. It stimulates the mind, tickles the funny bone and touches the heart.
*Thank you Audrey and Stella for bringing this wonderful, wonderful film to my attention! This film is so deeply entrenched in New York City it almost drips big-apple juice, but it still has a French New Wave feel about it. Oscar nominated for best picture, losing out to "The Sound of Music" - I had never even heard of it until a couple of my Flixster friends brought it to my attention, a favor for which I'm forever grateful!

In Bruges
by BrianAmazingly funny in a perfectly witty way that says a big FUCK YOU to political correctness and just has a good time with itself.
Also very shocking at times, and expertly acted by Farrell and Gleeson in a way that pulled us in to their characters so well.

Get Smart
by BrianOK, I know I had originally decided I didn;t want to see this film but I changed my mind.
And it's pretty decent for what it is. Yes, there are definitely a lot of "funny parts" that just aren't funny (like what was the deal with Bill Murray in the tree?), but I did laugh enough to be mostly satisfied.
I still see Hathaway as a one-trick pony who gets parts for her looks and by playing characters with personalities so close to what I imagine is her own.
Most of you will wait for the DVD. No need to rush out.Funny enough, but nothing amazing. Wait for the DVD.

The Bank Job
by KhrisAn interesting piece of film-making... which is pretty entertaining. Once you get past the sleazy and shameless sex, you would realise that it actually made some sense as to the WHY. Based on a true story of sorts, its an interesting take on the Baker Street Bank Robbery which caused a sensation and had Parliment and MI5 going nuts.
Jason Statham goes back home and back in time to 1971 as a small time criminal who tried to hit the big time by robbing Lloyd's Bank and hits big trouble in the form of government scandals, corruption and just about everyone from the MI5 to a local porn king/gangster AND a psychotic Rasta drug dealer out to nail him and his crew.
I guess the great thing about this movie was the authenticity. 1971 London does come alive, and its not something we see often in movies these days, seeing a world city in a different time, not so far back as to call it ancient history, but more so enough to appreciate what its like and how everything has changed radically, from cars to technology to clothing and styles and lifestyle.
You have to appreciate the story and the tension which the crew go through. This is one of Statham's better movies, and the rest of the cast are..... British. XD
Yeah its the same ole thing for all you guys who don't understand a world of the British language. If you could get past the language or are familiar with it (like me) then you can follow the movie quite easily. Which is something else which I liked about it. Its not meant to be an all out twister, a movie trying to out do itself and others of higher grade, but a simple reworking of an event brought to the big screen with a few thrills along the way. In the tradition of movies such as The Italian Job, The Score and other tales of thieves, this would have to be on of the better flicks to watch.Hey, you should really see this!
