Absolutely gorgeous in parts, but definitely not as amazing as everyone makes it out to be. The beginning is wonderfully touching, and the animation is amazing. Once Carl actually gets his house up in the air (beautifully, of course), the whole thing just goes... weird? I'm not even sure how to put it- the dog army and cruel explorer (who shoots at children?!?) and that entire part of the story seem totally absurd. It has moments of greatness, but for the most part I was left thinking- what? The ending is sweet though, and Kevin is absolutely beautiful- I can totally understand why Muntz would want her for his own.

This movie is exactly what you'd expect: Liam Neeson killing a bunch of people to rescue his daughter. It's saved by the fact that it knows exatcly what it is and what it's good at and doesn't try to be anything more than that- a gritty, implausible revenge flick.

Unlike most of my friends I never saw this when I was young so I don't have positive childhood memories to provide any bias in my review. It's a fun ride and the effects are pretty stunning (and scary!), but the implausibility and stupidity of the whole thing and the terrible over-acting from pretty much the entire cast prevent it from achieving any real greatness in my books.

A sweet, slow, literary romance. Northam and Ehle's love story is just gorgeous; Paltrow's and Eckhart's, a little less so. It actually starts out well, but once they get past the halfway mark and something actually happens between them things unravel into a conflict less exciting than most rom-coms. The sleuth-like aspect of the story is great, and the crafty editing really gives credit to the beauty of all of the story's love letters. Am I the only one who thinks Jennifer Ehle could be Meryl Streep's little sister?

Simple, silly fun. Coltrane and Idle have great chemistry, and Camille Coduri and Janet Suzman are both hilarious. A movie that asks little of its viewers and pleases easily. It starts off a little slowly, but the ending is superb.

Stupid, needlessly offensive, and only marginally funny. Terribly over-rated. A genuinely funny concept that was just blown to pieces, it's saved only by the genuine camaraderie and chemistry between the male leads. I feel terrible for the chicken and especially the tiger; I wish people would realize that animals like these are never meant to be kept as pets and should be allowed to live in the natural environment which they so rightly deserve.
