The Innocents - Unrated Oh my jebus! This freaked me out. Deborah Kerr is flipping awesome in this film. To be able to show so much emotions in your eyes, she was an incredible actress, one of her best roles hands down. No blood, loud noises, crashes, guns, violence or escaped mad men, but a soft song and subtleness make this the scariest film I have seen in a long long time. Even the little kids were good actors! (but highly scary!) I honestly do not know whether to classify it as a ghost story or a psychological study. I love old films that capture genuine fear like this one with the shadow effects and the whispers. It's funny how such little/down played things can heighten your senses of fear. It was a little confusing because the film requires so much of the viewers imagination and questions are left for you to come up with your own answers. The story can go any direction you like without seeming as though it were a drunk driver. The only way I will watch it again is if I am watching with a group, no way will I watch this alone. An awesome movie, but crazy scary. January 27, 2008

Convoy - PG MY EYES!!!!!!!!! THEY BURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY, WHY DIDN'T I LISTEN? If you are suicidal, please be my guest and watch this film. The only reason it gets half a star is because the song was so horribly funny. December 22, 2007

The Golden Compass - PG-13 The book was better, but when I read it I pictured Nicole Kidman to be Ms. Coulter, and she did a great job with the character. Looks like we got another Dakota in our mist, and I prefer Ms. Richards over Ms. Fanning. It's a shame that this was the finished product because it needed cleaning up in some areas. I only wish that they kept the ending from the book, that was so much better than what appeared before my eyes on the screen. The story is a complex one and Chris Weitz did an "O.K." job at bringing the book to the silver screen. December 16, 2007

The Wind That Shakes the Barley - Unrated Coming in to this, I expected just another film on the history of the Emerald Isle. But "The Wind That Shakes the Barley" is far from a display case found in a museum. The mood is set very quickly at the beginning of the film when a seventeen year old is tortured to death because he would not say his name in English. Automatically the viewer is in sense of what's really going on in Ireland's fight for independence from England. Damien, (Murphy), is going away to London to be an acclaimed doctor and wants nothing to do with the revolution, unlike his brother Teddy, (Delaney), who in turn is leading groups of men to fight against the"Black and Tans". When Damien goes to the train station, he witnesses British soldiers perform heinous acts on an innocent driver and conductor. Damien doesn't board the train and turns back around to help his brother and fellow Irishmen with the fight for freedom. At first, the fight scenes are captivating and just plain cool, but then you start to get the feeling that you are watching the tennis ball go back and forth across the court and the viewer can't help but yawn. However, when a peace treaty surfaces, the story takes a sharp turn and the brothers are no longer fighting for independence from England, but fighting against one another. People who were fighting together are now choosing sides of Pro peace treaty or Anti peace treaty. Ireland is being torn apart from the inside. Irishmen vs. Irishmen and Brother vs. Brother.
Ken Loach did a phenomenal job directing this complex grim drama with the help of Barry Ackroyd and his beautiful cinematography. I loved the dynamic performances from the full Irish cast. The scene with Damien and the young boy Chris will always stick to me (so sad!). "The Wind That Shakes the Barley" is definitely worth a look.
