Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004,  PG)
Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
We're very concerned

This movie will make you smile. I love this film. Im hoping to read the book. The acting was great also the costume, the story line One of the most consistent film I've watched. Everything was so magical and strange. You could feel every emotion the film has. Meryl Streep is the best. Even though her role is just short she really pulled it off. One of my favorites. At first I thought this was a Tim Burton film, but it's not. The ending left me hanging though. A sequel would be nice!

Man on Wire (2008,  PG-13)
Man on Wire
" If I die, what a beautiful death!"- Philippe Petit

It's like witnessing someone's dream coming true. For me it's not just a documentary but it is a big inspiration for everybody. I am amazed on how Philippe reached such big dream with nothing but great friends, cable wire and an old newspaper. It was a very surprising journey from the streets of France to New York's Twin Towers. The simplicity of the whole documentary made it very significant and remarkable. Another thing that I was amazed about was the music. It goes very well with Philippe's character. My personal favorite (in the docu) is Annie. I think she moderates everything. I'm just sad that almost half of her life she gave it to Philippe but all of a sudden they broke up. It's quite fair thought because Annie is the one who broke up with Philippe, not the other way around. I think it's one of the consequences. But I think it's for the better. Watch it It is very touching and inspiring.

The Wrestler (2008,  R)
The Wrestler
Love. Pain. Glory.

I think Michael Rouke should have won the Oscar. I think he did better than Sean Penn. About the movie, it was a bit sad with the case of his daughter. The ending is not clear, weather it's a happy or a sad one. That's why I think this film is not predictable because there's no clear ending. That is the reason why I gave it 5 stars. The movie made you think the ending. There is an "audience participation". For me that makes up a brilliant film.

Million Dollar Baby (2004,  PG-13)
Million Dollar Baby
Beyond his silence, there is a past. Beyond her dreams, there is a feeling. Beyond hope, there is a memory. Beyond their journey, there is a love.

A film that anybody can easily absorb. The story was great. It discusses one of the greatest issues of all-time, mercy killing. It was definitely simple but brilliant. The best boxing movie I've watched. Very realistic. Hillary Swank is a great actress. Morgan Freeman and Clint Eastwood also did a great job. Their performances was very natural. I can't imagine any actors that can replace them. They did carry the whole film from start to finish. This movie deserves to win the Oscar. I like it when simple films win the Oscars. It. It proves that "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication".
5
The Terminal (2004,  PG-13)
The Terminal
Life is waiting.

Great film! It has the right amount of comedy and drama, it's not trying hard, as other says. The cast was great. Tom Hanks did a great job. Nothing overdone in this film. The story's great. It was unique but unbelievable (the only negative I can say). Great directing. He did pulled something in this film. Although others say this is Spielberg's worst movie, I do not agree. Steven Spielberg really is expert when it comes to tearjerker movies. On the lighter side among the cast my favorite character is GUPTA. He is really good in this film. I hope to see more of his works.

Tsumiki no ie (La Maison en Petits Cubes) (2008,  Unrated)
Tsumiki no ie (La Maison en Petits Cubes)

VERY TOUCHING! I RECOMMEND everyone to see this. Definitely THE BEST SHORT FILM IN THE WORLD. This movie proves that there is talent. The one who made this DEFINITELY have the talent. It makes you think about life, family everything. THE BEST!

7
Doubt (2008,  PG-13)
Doubt
"I have doubts. I have such doubt"- Sister Aloysius Beauvier

Great movie. Starred by great actresses and a brilliant actor. They deserve their respective nominations. About the film, it was exciting and great. I was craving for the ending (in a good way). It was one of the simplest film I've seen. Without a DOUBT everyone working in this film has the greatest talents on earth. They made a great film with very minimal of everything. One one the best endings ever! The ending makes you think as an individual, did he do it or not? There's no clear ending. That's why I love it.
8
La Vie en Rose (La Mome) (2007,  PG-13)
La Vie en Rose (La Mome)
American journalist: "If you were to give advice to a woman, what would it be?"
Edith Piaf:" Love."
American journalist: "To a young girl?"
Edith Piaf: "Love."
American journalist: "To a child?"
Edith Piaf: "Love. "

Marion Cotillard did a great job in this film. She was brilliant. About the film, I liked it. Very flawless. One of the best biopics I've watched. It was hard for me to watch this film. Maybe it is because of the language. It was my first foreign language film to watch. I see Edith Piaf as a very strong woman. Marion Cotillard did bring Edith Piaf's life into reality. She deserves her win. I was just sad for the film not being nominated as Best Foreign Language Film. At least, they had the Best Actress.

Little Miss Sunshine (2006,  R)
Little Miss Sunshine
Where's Olive?

Very Smart film. Little Miss Sunshine has a very simple and smart story. The cast was at their best. Very natural acting. The film tackled the hardest challenges in life in a very positive and happy way. That is a very hard thing to do but they did it in a flawless way. But there was a feeling of weirdness. The fact that all of those things happened to them in just one trip going to a kid's beauty pageant. Just telling that plot makes me feel happy. It was a blast watching the film. I was excited of what's gong to happen next. It was a satisfying film from start to end. It was a great experience. A very nice film for people undergoing problems. How to face their problems in a way that they can enjoy.Watch it.
10
Frida (2002,  R)
Frida
Prepare to be seduced

A movie full of passion and effort. Visually and entertaining. Frida Kahlo's painting coming to life. One of the best biopic. The director was able to make the intriguing life of Frida Kahlo interesting. It was as colorful as Kahlo's paintings. Salma Hayek did a great job in this film. She deserves an Oscar award. She should have won. The only thing that I was bothered was Alfred Molina being teamed-up with Salma Hayek. We couldn't blame the casting director, it's Frida Kahlo's choice to love Diego Rivera. But anyway it was a good film. Watch it.
11
Coraline (2009,  PG)
Coraline
An Adventure too Weird for Words

AND THE OSCAR GOES TO..... CORALINE. It was GREAT! Nothing bad to say about the film. It was an experience. The animation was WOAH! GREAT!. He was able to venture to Burton's field. A lot of kids can relate to Coraline's character. Her curiosity brought her to a whole new world. Coraline's alternate world was such a scenery for me. If I were her I wouldn't leave the place. With all the beautiful colors who wouldn't love it?!?!?!?!??!. Selick was able to make darkness as happy and optimistic as a rainbow. Watch it.
12
The Holiday (2006,  PG-13)
The Holiday
I hate "chick-flicks" and fairy-taily films, but this one is VERY good. It's so natural, the acting etc. and it's very realistic. There was a feeling of comfortableness watching the film. It was like a delight watching it. you can feel the optimism of the film. I think Cameron Diaz brought that feeling. The 4 of them really standout. They gave different feelings. I was a bit surprised with Kate Winslet. I wasn't expecting her to do that kind of role. I always expect her to do very dramatic roles but she did quite well. I expected actresses like Reese Witherspoon or Drew Barrymore. Anyway, because of this film I discovered that Jack Black can do something not farce. All of them did good. Watch it.
13
Forrest Gump (1994,  PG-13)
Forrest Gump
"Run, Forrest! Run!"- Jenny Curran

The movie won 6 Oscars. I am not surprise why this movie won 6 Oscars (including Best Picture). At first I thought the movie was just a typical American movie, but it is surely not.It is a very touching film to watch. I remember the line "Life is like a box of chocolate, you'll never know what you'll get", a line Forrest's mother always say.
14
A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001,  PG-13)
A.I. Artificial Intelligence
"Please make me a real boy"- David

I'm not able to watch this film completely, but in those parts that I've watched I saw the goodness of the film. Haley Joel Osment did a great job in this film. The story is good. I just think it's a little bit overdone esp. the ending. The ending really sucked! I was satisfied by the David being inside the ice forever and the aliens not coming to earth. But if that happens, Merl Streep won't be in the film. Which is sad. On the brighter side, I think Steven Spielberg did a great job in this film. I hope to see more of his works.
15
Edward Scissorhands (1990,  PG-13)
Edward Scissorhands
Innocence is what he knows. Beauty is what she sees

Definitely one of Tim Burton's best. Tim Burton is slowly having a great idea of what his films will look like. It reflects his personality. When you watch a film you know if it is Tim Burton or not. Great Director. Johnny Depp proved that he is a great actor. No matter what genre comedy or drama he do it well. I hope to see more of his variations. The ending made me stop. It's like every clock in the world stopped. Effortless masterpiece by the actors and the directors. One thing I noticed is the costume of the Avon Ladies. Very 70's. Esp. the color.
16
Chocolat (2000,  PG-13)
Chocolat
"Once upon a time, there was a quiet little village in the French countryside, whose people believed in Tranquilité - Tranquility. If you lived in this village, you understood what was expected of you. You knew your place in the scheme of things. And if you happened to forget, someone would help remind you. In this village, if you saw something you weren't supposed to see, you learned to look the other way. If perchance your hopes had been disappointed, you learned never to ask for more. So through good times and bad, famine and feast, the villagers held fast to their traditions. Until, one winter day, a sly wind blew in from the North..." -Storyteller

A nice movie. Very nice. It is about a woman who's life is all about making chocolate and a village who is too much inclined with their religion. I bet not all of you would be interested to watch this film but I am sure this movie will leave a smile on your face. Juliette Binoche did a good job in this film by simply being simple. That's why I think she deserves an Oscar nod.

It is a bit hard to decide which of the two sides o follow. The traditionalists or Vianne Rocher's mindset. It shows us that people without a specific belief is not always bad. Tradition can be changed. Whether for the good or for the bad. But there is away that two sides can be followed. Both what we THOUGHT bad and what we THOUGHT good. Being judgmental is a big no for this film.
17
The Hours (2002,  PG-13)
The Hours
"Dear Leonard. To look life in the face, always, to look life in the face and to know it for what it is. At last to know it, to love it for what it is, and then, to put it away. Leonard, always the years between us, always the years. Always the love. Always the hours. - Virginia Woolf"

One of the most honest film I've seen. It is real and simple that could give a big impact to everyone who will watch this film. It will shake your principles and mindsets. It teaches the pursuit of happiness. Wherever our happiness may lead us we may follow it whatever it will take. Whether to change our own life or to end it itself.

This should win best picture not Chicago. This film is definitely one of the best. The idea of 3 women with interconnected life was great! The direction was flawless. The cast was great. The concept was so original. The way how Virginia Woolf's life affected Clarissa's and Laura's life. I think the pullback of the film is the film having no charm at all. It was a great film but forgettable. About the cast, I don't agree with Nicole Kidman being the lead actress. I would rather choose Julianne Moore. She was great in this film but she didn't "stand out" out of the three of them. Any way, The ending was nice. Everything is good about this film. I hope to see more quality films

American Beauty (1999,  R)
American Beauty
"I'm not obsessing, I'm just curious"- Richard Fitts

This movie proves that is a big factor in making a good film. Very simple story but brilliant. There were funny moments but there are also sad moments. People can relate to this film very much. Especially people with great big problems. Happiness also is the big message of this movie. We can never achieve it if we continue to do things that mekes us feel somehow isolated. Another is the principle of acceptance with others. Let us think that there is something good in every person. (So much of the reflection). The cast were great especially Kevin Spacey. He was great. The best scene for me is the "plastic scene". Very simple but excellent.

Cheaper by the Dozen (2003,  PG)
Cheaper by the Dozen
Growing pains? They've got twelve of them!

I watched this for about 8 - 11 times. I completely fell in love with this film. That was about when I was 9-10 yrs. old. It was such an experience watching this film. My first favorite film. Even though it's a remake, I felt good watching it. I felt like I was a member of their family. Technicalities: The cast was half good half bad. Nothing grand from the cast. But Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt were great. They really looked liked a couple.I think they can relate to their roles very much as real life parents. Best family film, for me.

The Chorus (Les Choristes) (2005,  PG-13)
The Chorus (Les Choristes)
Great film. Good story and great music made the film very acclaimed and special. Even though the movie has the same plot with Dead Poet's Society, I think The Chorus is better. The film also resembles Mona Lisa Smile which I think is also good. The movie is definitely one of the best European films. I think I'm starting to appreciate European films. They always give great movies, Oscars can prove that. I hope to see more foreign films (except American films). =)
21
Atonement (2007,  R)
Atonement
"So my sister and Robbie were never able to have the time togther they both so longed for and deserved. Which ever since I've ... always felt I prevented. But what sense of hope or satisfaction could a reader derive from an ending like that? So in the book, I wanted to give Robbie and Cecilia what they lost out of life. I'd like to think this isn't weakness or evasion but a final act of kindness. I gave them their happiness."

This is my favorite. I like movies with sad ending, weird right? That's why I like this film. The plot is very simple but brilliant. The cast were great. The thing that I liked the most about this film is the musical score and the story. I think that's the best parts of the film. Atonement deserves the awards and nomination they have. Though the film isn't perfect. There were inconsistencies in the direction. There were parts that's too elaborate or should I say too "artistic if compared to other scenes. But it is a minimal mistake. I hope to see more quality movie like this.

Lost In Translation (2003,  R)
Lost In Translation
Everyone wants to be found.

There was a comment of IMDB titled "Sometimes the simplest stories make the best films", I definitely agree to this thought. The movie was very simple but the simplicity of the film made it great. Everything was so natural. The acting, the humor, ETC. While watching the film I felt stressed out and depressed but I think that is the feeling that the movie should have. Being depressed in a place alone and having no friends or at least acquaintance. Bill Murray really did bring the whole film. You can feel his sadness. Then when they started to know each other there was a feeling of relief somewhere but the stress was still there. You can feel the awkwardness every time they meet. But the awkwardness was removed in the last scene. The tension finally was cut-off. One of the best scenes I've seen so far. The story was very unique. They were both became an outlet in a place where they were both lost. Really one of the simplest and greatest film I've watched. The director really did a great job.

Almost Famous (2000,  R)
Almost Famous
" Rock stars have kidnapped my son!"- Elaine Miller

The movie made alcohols, drugs and rock stars as sweet as muffins and cakes. It was very ironic. I thought it is something with heavy of everything but not with drama and laughter. But it was. There was a feeling of happiness and optimism after the film. It teaches us one of the greatest lesson in life which is uncertainty. The story was striking. It actually hit me for 2 hours. I felt like I am a member of the Stilwater. Everything that happens to anyone of them you can also feel .Everyone in the cast was different. Each and everyone of them was different, even the band aids. It is such a feel-good movie. Very simple but striking.

Pulp Fiction (1994,  R)
Pulp Fiction
"I do believe Marsellus Wallace, my husband your boss, told you to tke me out and do whatever I wanted. Now I wanna dance, I wanna win. I want that trophy, so dance good"- Mia Wallace

AT LAST! A new favorite :D It is very remarkable. There is an essence of uniqueness in the film. Every cast member, even the supporting, made a mark especially the females. Esmeralda caught my eye. For a few minutes she was able to justify her role as a lady cab driver whose obsessed with death she is one of my favorite characters coming from the film alongside with Jules, Vincent, Hunny Bunny (???) & Mia Wallace. They all went together. They are at their best. Even the film has all the action & comedy on thing I didn't see in the film is at least a glimpse of moral value. The movie is purely for entertainment & I was entertained. The story is very odd in a good way. I cannot think of any other films having such "stand-off appeal". Just great. Every part of it is GREAT

What Dreams May Come (1998,  PG-13)
What Dreams May Come
"When I was young, I met this beautiful girl by a lake"- Chris Nielsen

Bizarre. Bizarre in both good ways & bad ways. In a good way because of the effects, such an eye candy. I want to pause the film every time I get to those scenes. The set design is another factor why this has 5 stars. And most importantly, the cast. The were at their best. Bizarre in a bad way because of the story. Very complicated. Ideas coming from there and there. They have a confusing start. I never knew that they almost broke-up until the end. The middle is worse. The part where the have the best prod. designs is also the part where they have most of the confusing parts. It is very unpredictable in a good/bad way. Because you are still inclined in the remaining minutes of the film up to the end BUT you are confused while getting there. Anyway, with all the bad things I've said, I still think it is ONE OF THE BEST EXISTING FILMS EVER CREATED BY MAN. I will always remember this. It is my father's favorite film.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004,  R)
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
"How happy is the blameless vestal's lot! / The world forgetting, by the world forgot / Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! / Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd." -Mary

Great Simply the best I've seen. I never Imagined that It would be 100 times as great as Vanilla sky (they have the same writer).

They did the best acting I've seen in the world. They all work well together as they should be. Kate Winslet was perfect. Every time there is a change in a mood she changes. I never liked her before until I watched this. She rocks!!!!!!!!!! Jim Carrey also did a great job! He complemented with Kate Winslet very much. They the greatest opposite in the whole film. My favorite character, beside Clementine, is Mary. She is the most consistent and vivid among the cast. She is precise of her character. A girl who is not smart but trying to be for the sake of his "love" without giving Mark Ruffalo's love a chance. A perfect side story for another story which is much more complicated than theirs.

I am very speechless in terms of the film's morals. It is just the perfect fit for people that is depressed. It is a great wake up call for people who makes decision too drastic. The film teaches us to be careful about our actions. It makes us think that what if there is no turning back. If we really want something and is destined to us it will happen. We must be careful with our decisions. But if its the will of the wind it will be it.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005,  PG)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Oompa-Loompas are crazy for Coco-Beans

I just watched it last night and I realized, I like it. I already watched it but when I saw it again for the second time, I found myself inclined to the film. It is like my first time to watch it. I am excited in what will happen next even though I now it. A bit weird. I don't know why I had that kind of feeling. I completely like it! Very magical. I rarely say this but I can watch it a thousand times.

Good version. The movie lived up all the expectations. I was also able to watch Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory, the effects were good despite of the minimal technical knowledge etc. The other good thing about the film is the production design, it was stunning. The fictional places became very enchanting and magical. All my appraisal to Mr. Tim Burton. He did a magical job in this film. Johnny Depp and the rest of the cast were also great. Tim Burton really is one of the most unique and greatest director of all time.
28
Across the Universe (2007,  PG-13)
Across the Universe
All you need is love

The songs of the world's most loved band, Beatles, becoming a musical in a motion picture is a first. It is a greatest musical ever existed. They had the best of the best in all things everyone could say, acting, effects, voice, screenplay ETC. It will take you to a new kind of world the songs of Beatles have. A colorful, retro and funky world of 60's as told in the film. It is like a breathtaking experience. The thing that I think made me feel this feeling is the visual styles. Almost like having drugs. There is a "HIGH" in watching the film.

The story is actually too teenybopper. Two people both lost then sees each other then fall in love. But it is their journey that made the film worthwhile. The movie is all about a journey of several people with problems they are trying to solve with the help of each other. I am so inclined to this film because the friendship that they had is the friendship I want to have. The kind that will endure forever.

This movie can be a gateway to modern youth for them to recognize the beautiful music of Beatles. The way they used the music of Beatles is perfect. It is awesome how they did that because it so not connected but they did it. Praises to the writers, production designer and directors.

I just wish everybody could watch this incredibly great film. Still, I cannot move on :D

Meet the Robinsons (2007,  G)
Meet the Robinsons
If you think your family's different, wait 'til you meet the family of the future.

Enjoyable. I really like this film especially the family itself. I really adored the FAMILY! I CAN'T PUT IT IN WORDS! The characters complimented each other. The character design really ROCKS!.

Meet the Robinsons is something that everyone will enjoy. Disney proved that they can do what other can do. They ventured on a whole new world of animation. When it comes to the story, I think it is a bit complex for kids. But for me, I understood it but I was confuse at some parts until the end. The animation is just okay. They were not able to match the greatness of Pixar but at least they have something to "say" about the animation.

If there is something that the film would signify it is to believe in your own capability. To surpass what you think is impossible to yourself. Like Lewis did, he believed in himself and eventually succeeded.

Ratatouille (2007,  G)
Ratatouille
He's dying to become a chef.

WHERE IS THE BEST PICTURE AWARD?!?!?!?!?!?!
The film can be considered as the best in that year. You just want to to go Paris after watching the film. It is really charming and GREAT! It gives you the feeling of being inspired and uplifted THAT NO OTHER FILM CAN DO.The feeling of contentment and happiness. You can really see the smartness & wittiness of the team. I cannot think of any other films that can give what Ratatouille gave. The direction, soundtrack, screenplay, literally everything. I just fell in love with the film. The best for me.
