Butler does good work, there are some really entertaining set pieces and it even does have a few interesting perspectives on the legal system. But it's let down by an overcomplicated and overwrought ending.
It's not a life changing experience, or a serious contender for best film of the year - it's not even Cameron's best. But where it shines is the visuals. CGI has never been better, both in terms of scope and photo realism. Ignore the hype, see this on it's own terms. Preferably in 3D
There are a lot of flaws to the film - it is in some respects quite toothless, with the gore being very brief and the 'sexy' moments being muted and making the R-rating pointless. But there is a lot to like here. Seyfried is truly amazing, Fox impresses, Brody is wickedly deadpan and the dialogue is witty (although somewhat over-stylised) Worthy of your time, even if it won't make much of a lasting impression.
A fascinating glimpse behind the curtain into the talent and creativity of Jackson. I feel confident in saying that had the shows gone ahead, they would have been AMAZING. The only frustrating aspect to the film is it's tendency to hop around randomly.
Not as accomplished in story terms as previous Pixar films, but the technical aspects are predictably impressive and there are some genuinely touching and heartbreaking moments. And who couldn't love Dug?
Tony Scott's standard MO of intense and fast paced action sequences, balanced against Washington's very low-key performance keep this remake on the rails.
Deeply flawed, with the titular characters relegated to guest star status, lopsided pacing and a few too many "clever" jokes and references. Despite this however, it remains one of QT's finest works. Great acting, editing and visuals make this film a treat, if an acquired taste.
One of the best summer popcorn movies in a few years, with well edited action scenes, likeable characters and well judged performances. Take note Micheal Bay, THIS is how it should be done!
