I was not exactly thrilled with the overall feel of this movie and was left somewhat disinterested. I think that was more of the way the director presented it. The overall performances were quite intriguing. Timothy Dalton, I think, surprised me the most. Now, the biggy... A very strong performance by Katherine Hepburn, not the best performance of the year, that belongs Barbara Streisand, hands down. Not a tie, as was presented at the Oscars.
Loosely based on the classic "Rear Window". Modern day plot, yet involving teenagers in a visually more graphic plot. Sometimes less is better and I love the original, but this kept me on edge. Recommended.
To be honest, it was a real struggle to get through this movie. I did like to watch Colin Farrell, I just like the way he moves. Acting seemed forced and the comedic elements were mediocre at best. The dramatic scenes did not have emotion. Would not recommend this.
Brought to a hospital after finding himself naked ans wounded in a deserted lot. He doesn't know his name or who he is. Slowly he is able to piece some things together, or can he? He does say a name and that he is gay. A young woman re-opens the case to search for truths. Is the truth too hard to remember in detail or was it all a hoax to cover for some thing even more sinister. Yes, I would recommend this film.
Ok - I must admit - I would generally have ripped a movie like this. I must have been in a good mood and in the mood for a light hearted murder story. It was fun to me! It was over the top acting and the script well.....anyway!?
Julie Christie showcases a satirical look at mid-sixties London life. Nominated for 5 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director (John Schleshinger), and Best Actress winner! Many of the social behaviors that this film takes on is quite remarkable for it's time. This is definitely a movie that should get more play than it has. Saying that - Julie Christie shines here almost as much as my all time favorite film of her's, Doctor Zhivago (also in 1965).
OK, I did rent this for selfish reason, I will admit that. Saying that..those of you wanting a gay movie or those of you who looked over this thinking it is gay, it is not. There is one gay character and much to be said of how treating others unfairly because of their lifestyle. Enough about that....this was really a suprise for me. Yes, we have seen similar movies dealing with relationships and "breaking out" from current circumstances. This was well made, the acting did seem natural. I guess I was in the mood for a movie such as this....I did cry. And I do have to say, even though he was not the lead character...Hooooray for Fergus!!!
I guess it is OK to say that this is a sweet movie. A look at the traditional coming of age parties for 15 year old girls. The story of friends/family sharing in the parties. The twist is the hoodlum looking brother/cousin, who has a secret of his own. Of course a movie like this would not be the same without an aging relative who is friend to all no matter what. Sweet yes. Speaking of sweet, Jesse Garcia is a real looker....
A family struggling with a growing economy. An aging father taking care of a "slow" grown son and the family business, a bath house. While life goes on it seems, the elder brother shows up after receiving a post card from the other brother showing the aging father laying down. He, thinking that the father has died comes home. Thus the movie begins.
I gave an extra star, simply because this was made just different enough to earn the extra point. Saying that, wowe!!! watch out, this was NOT a good film at all. You can read what it is about, I am not going to say anything about that. I didn't like it, is all.
I must admit that I was captivated with Han Lee's performance from the beginning. More so because of his physical beauty. This was really a well made movie. I enjoyed all the performances and the story stayed on line. The ending was somewhat tiresome, but worth the wait.
I didn't really know how quite to take this movie after watching it for a while. Duncan, the lead character, is hard for me to figure out. Is he slow? Is he naive? What gives?? Some of the film made little sense and you wonder from the ending what ultimately happened to him. I, for one, do not see much promise in him.
I really enjoyed this film. There were many flaws though. The acting seemed disjointed, especially the lead character. The mother was really way over the top, I wish she would have been just a little more tame. The ending was really way open. So, much so that I almost rated this lower
I am going to have to disagree with many of my friends on this one. I did not like this film at all. It was not the worst film I have watched, but was not put together very well. Acting was subpar in my opinion. The lead carried himself well, I don't think the story gave him much leeway. The mother and so called finace were just typical in a film of this sort. I felt as though I never was given a chance to like any of the characters. Oh, any for fans of full frontal male nudity, it is there, but WHY? Seems that the nudity was thrown in there to get the attention of the audience who go for that sort of thing.
You might not think my rating supports my views of this film, but I did enjoy this movie immensely. Melissa Leo, did a brilliant job of making you want to know more about her. I really did like her in this role. The film did draw you into the story, you knew more than likely what was to become of the two women who were smuggling illegal immigrants into the country. And yet you were still drawn into watching more. I must say that I was pleased to see a movie that depicted the issue of our northern border rather than our southern. We seem to forget that it is our northern border in which we are most vulnerable.
As you can tell from most of my ratings of animated films....... they are not my favorite. Bolt was a refreshing twist and fun......I really enjoyed it.
Movie, yes good, very good. Clint Eastwood makes damn good movies now. Too bad his own were not all that great. Anyway back to Changeling, "true story". Wow! Imagine. Any Jolie is wonderful, so nice seeing her bring a role to life. The only thing.....why do they always enhance her lips and why, no matter what, does she always have to purse them. Anyway I digress again.. deserved oscar nod but definitely could not match the performance of the ultimate winner.
Ok, so this a remake and really, pretty good one. LOVE the original though. You can't get better then Divine. Saying that....Travolta screamed in this film. Loved him!
Knowing the story for this movie. Knowing that Anne Hathaway was nominated for Best Actress, Academy Award. I think the real award would be for outstanding direction of Jonathan Demme; he made the story shine and the acting seemingly effortless. Great movie, have you been there, do you know what it is like? mmmmmmmmm. Just a glimpse of the real pain and turmoil.
Leave it to the Academy Awards nominating committee to pick out this very subtle performace by Richard Jenkins as a nominee for Best Actor. When all of the talk this year is about a body enhanced performance by Mickey Rourke, this is a pleasant surprise for me. I remember when this was in theaters and I thought it looked interesting. Am I glad I saw it now. Rich characters and performances and even gave me a different perception of drums. Don't miss this please, and really watch how masterfully Jenkins brings to life this man stuck in a mundane existence to something real and exciting.
