A Walk in the Clouds (1995,  PG-13)
A Walk in the Clouds
What a beautiful movie! What grand and lush style and color, what emotion and care and breath taking scenery.. This has to be one of the most beautiful films of all time.

A walk in the clouds is not something you'd except in the modern film industry, no this film is out side of what we see now of days this film is not a sexual charged romance film like 9 1/2 weeks or Night's In rodanthe. No this film follows the old fashioned way romance use to be like back in the 40's and 50's it is an a film with values that lie deep in the story and plot and if you look deep enough you will see that there more to this film than meets the eye.

Keanu Reeves turns in a very believable and very skilled performance as a lost G.I. trying to find his place in the world, he plays the honorable and very kind Paul with such decency and grace that you just can't love his performance

A walk in the clouds is just what the title says. It's a walk amongst the most beautiful and cherished things in life love, honor, friendship and most important family. This movie is a true joy and wonder to watch unfold on the screen, Once it's over you'll want to watch it again and again it's just that good!

Alfonso Arau directs this beautiful and visually stunning period romance to perfection, and he does with such style and grace that everything seems to fit in. Those that said this movie was terrible or even a mediocre romance weren't watching this movie closely. You need to pretend that your Paul Sutton and that your helping this girl out of her troubles, if you do that, if you immerse yourself in the films grandeur and beauty then you are truly watching A Walk in the Clouds and you are truly seeing a movie that is wroth the time and the money to rent or even buy for your collection.

All in all A Walk in the Clouds is a film that you just can't miss or ignore, it's perfect any day entertainment for anyone with a heart for romance.

Revolutionary Road (2008,  R)
Revolutionary Road
What does a cult 1961 Richard Yates novel about a 1950s marriage rotting in the burbs have to say to a new century? Plenty, and hold on, because the raw and riveting Revolutionary Road hits you where it hurts. To hear Kate Winslet, as April Wheeler, express her desire "to be wonderful in the world" is to be reminded of subtle urges with no expiration date. Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, as her husband, Frank, could not be better in the roles of young marrieds who (shades of Mad Men) move from Manhattan to the suburbs, promising themselves it's all just temporary. April dreams of taking off for Paris, where she'll work while Frank pursues his artistic impulses. Add two kids, thwarted ambitions, adultery ? Frank with a secretary (a vivid Zoe Kazan) and April with a married neighbor (the excellent David Harbour) ? plus April's unwanted third pregnancy, and the whooshing sound you hear is a dream in free-fall. Directed with extraordinary skill by Sam Mendes (American Beauty), who warms the chill in the Yates-faithful script by Justin Haythe, the film is a tough road well worth traveling. Camera genius Roger Deakins lights the "hopeless emptiness" on view with a terrible beauty. All the actors amaze. Start the award buzz for Michael Shannon as John Givings, the institutionalized son of a gossipy realtor (the ever-superb Kathy Bates). Home on a visit, John spits the truth at Frank and April. Playing the role like a heat-seeking missile that targets hypocrisy, the volcanic Shannon scores a knockout. DiCaprio is in peak form, bringing layers of buried emotion to a defeated man. And the glorious Winslet defines what makes an actress great, blazing commitment to a character and the range to make every nuance felt. Winslet's last scene, as April prepares breakfast for a husband who can't see the torment behind her smile, is emotionally devastating. This movie takes a piece out of you.

Street Kings (2008,  R)
Street Kings
Sometimes in Cinema we see things that get repeated over and over and over again so many times that when something new and fresh comes along, we turn the other cheek because we instantly think that it's going to be the same thing done over.. again. But that's not the case with Street Kings. No Street kings is fresh and exciting and puts a whole new spin on the corrupt cop story that makes this film one of the best crime thrillers to come out since The Departed and Goodfelleas, this film follows a winding and snakish path down one back alley of corruption after another. I wouldn't exactly call it original or anything groundbreaking but this film had a great story to tell and in the short time it had it told it well.

Keanu Reeves(In his finest hour.) plays corrupt veteran vice detective Tom Ludlow, Ludlow isn't corrupt to further his own career, no Ludlow does it so he can put the criminals where they belong. Which in m book makes that pretty good reason. See the film tries to tell us that one man out of a whole unit is righteous and as the story unfolds in front of you it seems very true that Ludlow is the only good hearted corrupt cop in that unit.

I liked this film, I liked the premise and I loved the plot but the one thing that I didn't like was the fact that the whole movie was only 1hr. 47min. long, that was the only let down about the whole film. But besides it all this film delivers an entrancing and very entertaining thrill ride you've just got to see to believe.

Street Kings is near-perfect in almost every way imaginable the story is bullet-proof, the acting is very good it's not great but it's very good. The premise is great and everything in the film works amazingly and it's story is told with lightning fast accuracy ad great pacing that let's the story unfold before you piece by piece and then in the end it blows you away.

All in all Street Kings is a force to be reckoned with and it's a film that should be given a chance because you never know, you might actually like it.

The Matrix (1999,  R)
The Matrix
When I first saw this movie when I was twelve I didn't think much of it, I thought it had a confusing story and a mindless plot that was supported and only succeeded by out of this world slow motion stunts. Boy was I naive or what!? Now seeing it again after all these years I could see that I was not ready back then to handle a movie of this complexity and strange coherent means of story telling. But now I fully respect and love this movie for what it is and for what it always will be, mindbogglingly, mind blowing, out of this world fun.

When the Matrix was released in 1999 this was the film to go see people were busting out of the theater's and telling anyone they can to go see this movie. It was the "It" movie of the year and it gained the title justly. This film mapped out new territory in action and ushered in a whole new generation of action & Sci-Fi thrillers and video games as well(Max Payne comes to mind) it is one of the biggest and most beloved film of the 90's and has one of the biggest fan base out there.

This movie unique and I mean unique story and style has such and impact on you when you first see it you'll want to see it the minute it's over and some more after that and after that and you'll want to see it a million times it's just that good. The Matrix put's a Gothic and dark spin on the dystopia and apocalyptic themes that have become very common in Sci-Fi films, this film does it one better it takes those overly used themes and creates a completely original and unique world around which everything we Believe is a lie. It has a great monolithic tone to it that makes it a masterpiece by any standards and it creates a great aftershock in which few films can actually do these days. It purposes that machines while enslave humanity and use us as a battery source to power there vasts armies of machines around the world. But that's what makes it so great to watch it gives you a sense of hope and a sense of justice that you just feel all the way to your bones.

This movie has given the fellow movie goer what they've always wanted and always searched for in a film, great action, a smart story and plot, acting you can live with and put them all together and what do you got? The Matrix! This movie will stick with long after it's over and even after tour old you'll still remember one movie that rocked your world like none other. All in all this film delivers great any day entertainment that is like Laurence Fishburn said, " Unfortunately no one can be told what the Matrix is you have to see it for yourself." And trust me once you do you won't ever look at Sci-Fi or other movies the same way again. This movie delivers

L.A. Confidential (1997,  R)
L.A. Confidential
I'm a major fan of film noir I love everything about it! The mood , the dim lighting, the dark colors and the dark story. But I'm here to tell you that this film has none of those qualities. You see this film is what you call a neo-noir it's not exactly a film noir but it also is at the same time. L.A. Confidential is what you call a masterpiece among crime films it's so perfect, so well done and so well acted to the point you don't even realize that your watching a film, you see when you watch L.A. your living a film which is something of very extreme rarity and pleasure.

When this film was released in 1997 nobody was interested in it and from it's box office opening it showed. But after just a week in theaters this film started to rack up the dough although it could have made allot more than what it did L.A. Confidential was a moderate box office success but it's popularity didn't stop, no this films fame and didn't end with it's theatrical run it soon became an instant Saturday night favorite and a landmark film effectively jump starting the "Neo-Noir" genre and ushering in a whole new era of crime films, many films have tried to copy this style and many have failed( actually all have failed.) but this film has been so widely acclaimed by critics and fans alike that even if you could copy it's style, even if you could mimics it's appeal, even if you could copy the sense of humor and the sense of justice and brilliance that it had you would never be able to capture the awe and glamor that this film has it's so grand and beautiful that if your a filmmaker at heart you'll almost want to cry.

L.A. Confidential is perfect in every way imaginable there isn't a single flaw or a single clique that exist in this film and let me say that I thoroughly enjoyed this film so much and if you have the heart for a period piece crime drama then look no further, this is the film. L.A. Confidential delivers.

The Lake House (2006,  PG)
The Lake House
We see romance flicks so often today that sometimes we don't bother to look for the underlining layers that define them, bad romances just use cheap sex scenes and sexual dialogue to past the time so that you won't be lost in the horrible script and bad acting. Good romances on the other hand have unshakable romantic stories that touch the heart and uplift he soul, they have acting that almost renders you speechless and an unimaginably great script and story that you just love. "The Lake House" has all the qualities of a great romantic drama and so much more.

This supernatural love story is something of a stand alone in the modern romance genre it follows protocol down to almost every layer of Romance. But somewhere along the line it takes a really long detour down the path of unique and mind blowing. This film is nothing short of brilliant and remarkable I haven't enjoyed a good Romantic drama since "Titanic" and "Rome + Juliet", this film was extremely entertaining, very sweet and movingly touching to the point that your almost in tears. This movie has the makings of greatness but it's mired down by the people calling it clique, predictable, unoriginal and unmoving.

But I'm sorry this film doesn't have cliques, it's unpredictable, it's very original, and it's extremely moving. It resonates with the heart and with the soul on a whole new level, it makes you feel great and gives you that sense of love and enjoyment that you've been searching for in a romantic drama. It's so beautiful and so touching that you just can't ignore the romantic freshness that resonates from this film as you watch the story unfold right in front of you, It's story and plot are so warm and gentle and I loved every single minute of it. And if your forgiving and open your mind and look past everything you see today and look at this film with fresh eyes and a born again sense of love and happiness, than I can promise you this film will conquer.

All in all this film delivers a very romantic, very touching and very unique love story that just happens to transcend time itself. The Lake House delivers.

Vanilla Sky (2001,  R)
Vanilla Sky
This movie was allot of things to me. It was strangely beautiful, oddly touching. Complex, brilliant, stunning , grand, outrageously entertaining; need I go on? Vanilla Sky was a movie at first I didn't think I would like but after awhile I saw that there was more too it than meet's the eye. It was a very touching movie in an odd sense it shows you the trails and tribulations of a man trying to grasp whether or not his world is real or a dream.

There are things in life we don't quite understand and there are things we do, this film explores the latter it explores the perception that our world does sometimes seem like a dream and that things we do and things we don't can effect the realm of our imagination and the realm of our life. This movie doves deep into the physic of the human mind and it plucks at every sense and every feeling to provoke the main stimulus of our mind and it does it so well with such style and artistic beauty, It's a quintessential movie that mus be seen with an open mind and heart to fully comprehend the complex nature of it's story and it's deeper underlined meaning that is unearthed as the story moves along. It's astoundingly well made and crafted and is something that is going to become a classic as time goes on.

Tom Cruise(who was utterly fantastic here.) delivers one of his most potent and brilliant performances as wealthy playboy David Aames, Jr. an successful publisher who finds his whole life turned upside down. Kurt Russell does as just a good job as Cruise in his forceful performance as the compassionate psychiatrist who becomes a father figure to Cruise and brings Cruise's character out of his dark place. It's a great father son type of relationship to see unfold on screen. Penelope Cruz does amazing here she's so graceful and beautiful and is something amazing to watch on screen, she's fantastic! But the real weak point in this film was Cameron Diaz, her performance was so annoying and bland that when she died you showed no pity what so ever. But besides that the rest of the cast holds up very nicely and does a fantastic job.

This movie is a mind bending, melting pot of a film it's meant to bring out the most elated feeling of power and sorrow from the deepest part's of your mind. It's a film you can't miss at all it's amazing, breath taking, dark and so entertaining to watch. Vanilla Sky is a shoot out the lights , blow your hair back, mind blowing experience you have just got to see. All in all Vanilla Sky is a wild trip you'll want to take.

Night at the Museum (2006,  PG)
Night at the Museum
In "Night at the Museum," Ben Stiller plays Larry Daley, a divorced dad who has trouble bringing his many moneymaking schemes to fruition. Pressured by his ex-wife to find a job or lose custody of his 10-year-old son, Daley finds work at New York's famed Museum of Natural History, where he is tutored in security by three outgoing guards (Dick Van Dyke, Bill Cobbs and a scene-stealing Mickey Rooney). The old codgers are definitely up to something, and when the doors are locked for the day and the sun goes down, Larry discovers what they didn't tell him: At night, all the stuffed animals, dioramas and mannequins -- even the Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton in the front hall -- come to life and run amok. So Larry finds himself chaperoning the world's most surreal play date, as the dino insists on playing fetch, an Easter Island sculpture asks him for "gum-gum," a monkey steals his keys, Attila the Hun tries to rip him apart and Teddy Roosevelt (Robin Williams), when not shouting "Bully!," gives Larry chaos-management advice (something about men either being born great or having greatness thrust upon them). The plot thickens, but mostly "Night at the Museum," which has been competently if not inspiringly directed by Shawn Levy, is all about those eye-popping scenes of lions, zebras, Civil War soldiers, Christopher Columbus and Sacajawea committing sundry acts of mayhem and mischief. It's a fun ride, and the big payoff -- that history turns out to be way cooler than its reputation suggests -- is even more gratifying.

Fireflies in the Garden (2008,  R)
Fireflies in the Garden
Fireflies in the garden is a very tragic, beautiful and at sometimes awe inspiring. Fireflies in the garden is based on a poem by the legendary Robert Frost and is what inspired this film. This magnificent piece of movie making stars Ryan Reynolds as Michael Taylor a very accomplished and well liked novelist who while going home for a family reunion is meet with an unexpected and heartbreaking tragedy. This film is a study of the human emotion and how one death can lead you to find your way back to the people who love and care for you. Fireflies in the garden is a beautiful film that will have your heart wrenching and at sometimes soaring above new heights. I lost my mom last year to cancer, so this movie was very hard for me to watch, but I made it trough to the end but not without shedding a river full of tears. In our lives we all lose someone we love and we all regret that we didn't do anything different or we didn't bother to be there for them when we were needed the most, and this film tells a story that can make you come to terms with that feeling. It can make you feel like not all is lost and that the grass is greener on the other side. Ryan Reynolds, Julia Roberts, William Defoe and Carrie-Anne Moss deliver earth shattering performances in a movie that should be recognized as one of the best of 2008, this film should be released commercially to people so that they can experience a movie that will truly touch your heart in many way's. Fireflies in the garden is now and will always be one of my favorite films of all time, and I hope it will be one of yours too.

Australia (2008,  PG-13)
Australia
Truly amazing!! Australia is one of those rare films that will make you feel like nothing around you matters anymore except what's in front of you on the screen. Australia stars Nicole Kidman as Lady Sarah Ashley, a British socialite who come to the rough and untamed lands of Australia looking for her husband, but what she finds is more disturbing than what she expected. Now Lady Ashley has to run her Husbands cattle ranch with the help of Drover, a mysterious cattle herder and a local boy. Now with nothing to lose the trio sets out to rebuild the ranch, and along the way finds out the true meaning of love, family and most importantly life. Australia is an amazing piece of art that you just want to look at over and over again, it's one of those great films that you can't afford to miss! I very, very highly recommend this movie.

I Love You, Man (2009,  R)
I Love You, Man
I don't usually watch comedies, I particularly don't really care for them. I guess it's becuase I can't find one that's smart, has good acting and actually has good jokes. This film had all that and some more thrown in there for extra measures.

I Love You, Man was funny, charming, lighthearted and had a great sense of brotherly love. This movie was great for me becuase my friends are my bros and this was a cool movie for me to watch and think of all the stuff that Peter and Sydney do are some of the stuff me and my friends have done, most of it not all of it. But it did give you a great story as well as a good time it works it's brotherly type of charm on you and it won't let you go or let you stop laughing until the very end. It meant allot to me in the terms of it premise but then it didn't, I mean I do think it does apply to what male friendship is and then again I don't. I mean doing stupid stuff is all apart of being a guy and jamming out in your brother from another mother's garage is cool but not the main focal point of being a friend. But after you get past the dumb stuff then it gives you a true look at what being a true friend is.

Paul Rudd does fantastic here and in my opinion turns in one of his best comic performances since Clueless and Role Models, Jason Segel(who I didn't like until I saw Forgetting Sarah Marshall.) was also fantastic here. But his crude and nasty style soon takes it's tole on you and it get's annoying. But all in all the both of them put on a great comedic show.

I Love You, Man is quirky and unusual, funny and touching and at the same time raunchy( bu not too raunchy. ) it gives a great story of brotherly love and shows you what a bromance looks like and how sometimes it can be funny and ridiculous at the same time. All in all this movie was a major caliber above the bar of regular comedies and that makes it gold among them. I love You, Man is one friendship you don't want to turn down and if you over look some things in it i promise you this film will make you laugh like no other comedy can. All in all I Love You, Man delivers.

Planet of the Apes (2001,  PG-13)
Planet of the Apes
I like Tim Burton, I love his movies but sad to say this one isn't a favorite of mine. Don't get me wrong Planet of the Apes was smart, intense, daring, refreshing and oh so much fun. But even though it has all those qualities and more it lacks the palpable suspense and ingenuity that made the original a great film(although I like this one way more than the original.) But is the new Planet of the apes bad? No way! Is it a great movie? Well it would depend on who you ask, me I say it's pretty good.

Planet of the Apes is good entertainment there's no doubt there. But there are three main reasons it falls short of being movie greatness. 1.) It's story is good but like I've said it's it's just a recycled version of the new one with just better special effects, it lacks really depth and conviction and emotion for that matter and that is where it fails to convince. 2.) The acting is on par between good and bad. But there are some moments that the actors really shine and show that they really are good, and there are times they don't. 3.) Tim Burton tries his best to modernize a great Sci-Fi classic but to no avail. The entertainment is there, the Science Fiction is there but the heart and soul isn't. There's no real soul in this and the heart isn't even put into the film until the ending and there it fails. But all in all the B-Movie charms and the exciting action and special effects will win you over and you never know you might actually like it.

Mark Wahlberg(who's does good here.) plays an astronaut who get's lost in a cosmic storm and is sent to a alternate reality where humans are the slaves and talking apes rule. Wahlberg does well in his role and plays his character with some heart but with out any emotion which makes it a very bland character to watch on screen. Tim Roth( the saving grace of this film.) does exceptional as the ape army leader Thade his brash and daring performance is nothing short of brilliant. But none the less the cast(most of them.) holds up very nicely and does adequate with there assigned parts.

Planet of the Apes is not movie greatness, but it is great fun none the less to watch unfold on screen, but the lack of depth and real emotion may turn away viewers to seeing it, but Tim Burton does great with the material and makes a pretty good remake of the original. Is ti as good as the original is up to you to deiced on your own, but it is good fun to watch. All in all this isn't half bad as a film not as great as it could have been, but not half bad at all.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008,  PG-13)
The Day the Earth Stood Still
This movie was good for a number of reasons, my top one was that Keanu Reeves was in it my other was that it was Sci-Fi ,I love Sci-Fi . This movie had a certain appeal to it it was very dark and intense, it was smart and intimidating. It was all around a great film.

This remake of the 1951 Sci-Fi political inept classic is nothing short of brilliant. It brings so much more to the table than the original and it does great with all the new technology and upgrades in the story and plot. The one thing I did find that I didn't like was the lack of background into Klaatu's past that was the only thing I found I did not like. This 2008 update brings a certain feeling of moral sense about what is going on in the environment it's a story that tells us that if we don't change our ways we'll all die. Which is partly true but what really drew me to this film was it's dark nature, I mean one alien has come to our planet to deiced our fate by judging whether or not we are fit to continue to live on this planet.

It's a great "change your ways" story that seems to leap off the screen and drag you into it's world of chaos and destruction. But ti did have a righteous pull to it as well I mean it was trying to tell us that we've got this one world and this one life and we need to cherish as best we can and to mean that made it great to watch.

Keanu Reeves turns in an amazing performance as the otherworldly hit man/ judge and he brings a dark forbearing and boding sense of justice and style to a very old character, Jennifer Connelly does well here as the widowed scientist Helen Benson. Jon Hamm showcase's he's got some good acting chops outside his Mad Men role and Kathy Bates is fantastic as always. The only weak link in the group was Jaden Smith, son of Two time oscar nominee Will Smith, He gave such an annoying and bad performance that it made everyone else look bad he was bratty and crass and didn't really show off any real talent at all. But besides that the cast held up pretty well and did good with the material that they were given.

This film is what you would call a dedication to the environment, an Eco friendly Science Fiction movie( which is very rare.) and that gives it more of an appeal to Eco fanatic's and regular moviegoer's. But what really takes it outside the conventional Sci-Fi thriller genre is it's force and undeniable strength, it's will is unstoppable and it's grand and almost detailed way of telling the story makes it all the more powerful and amazing.

The Day the Earth Stood Still is a force to be reckoned with it's powerful, ingenious and oh so entertaining to the point that the passage of time is meaningless. All in all T.D.T.E.S.S. is an enthralling and mesmerizing Sci-Fi adventure to see it's wild fun and the fans of the original will love it if they give it a chance. This film rocked my world and I know if your forgiving it will rock yours as well. The day the earth stood still is an event you don't want to miss.

Constantine (2005,  R)
Constantine
Constantine is not your usual supernatural thriller, no Constantine breaks all the rules that the genre has put in stone, it breaks down the wall and builds a new one based on it's own mythology. And may I say that it does a n amazing job at that.

This film is not something I usually watch, in fact I was very skeptical when I deiced to view just to see if it was any good, boy was I surprised! Constantine was amazing!! This film blew my hair back and took my breathe away. This film is bathed in dark but equally bright tones, it mashes them together so well to blend in with the films story That the filmmakers make it look like something whole different form our world. The theme of the movie is not what I'd call religious or spiritually at all but it works. And that's why the film works, this film works on a whole different level than most comic book adaptions and even most supernatural thrillers it put's it case and makes a statement most films don't have the balls to do and they do it with such style and grace that this film just blows away the competition and makes other supernatural thrillers look like seaseme street, and I mus say that's hard to do. Seeing as most films in this genre crash and burn this one takes off to new heights and makes you see what you've never seen before.

Keanu Reeves( who in my opinion is an awesome actor.) turns in one of his best and most powerful performances of his career as a man who been to the ends of life and back. And Keanu does it with such style and grace that John Constantine is someone that you just can't hate. This film is not as you expect it too be, when you pop in this film you expect it to be your usual supernatural thriller, but you get so much more. You get a trip into a world that nobodies ever seen before and you come our saying "Hey that was actually pretty cool." And then you know that you've gotten what your money's paid for.

This film is near-perfect and if your very forgiving Constantine delivers awesome entertainment on a whole new scale.

The World Is Not Enough (1999,  PG-13)

The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946,  Unrated)
The Postman Always Rings Twice
This film does for film noir what what The Matrix did for Sci-Fi, it defines a genre and breaks new bounds in the 40's at least, This classic film is undeniably one of the best that has ever been put to film it's dark themes and it's high level of sexual tension makes it a must see for Noir lovers and for classic film lovers as well.

The postman always rings twice is not what you'd call anything groundbreaking in the classic film genre but it is a very good film at that and really did help make Film noir a much darker and more sinister setting than it was. I really liked the energy that the story had and I liked the plot of it as well but the acting on Garfield's part really wasn't all that( even for the 40's it was bad.) Bu Lana Tuner turns in a fantastic performance with a weak leading man to fall on. This film's story today is nothing new but it does feel fresh and inviting and very engaging, it's kinetic in the way it plays out and it feels oh so good to watch it play out it's foreboding and mysterious and you love to watch Garfield and Turner play off each other and they do it oh so well.

If there is anything that save this film it's itself. The film saves itself from falling into a boring melodrama of seduction and murder that was seen all the time in the 40's, The postman always rings twice Is a quintessential film to see and if you love film noir and classic's this has to be on your watch list. All in all The postman delivers.

Speed (1994,  R)
Speed
This movie is something of a stand alone in the action genre, it doesn't follow the protocol set up by Die Hard and it doesn't use boat loads of FX's to tell the story or get it's point across. No this film use conventional means to give you a fun filled and totally engrossing action thrill ride you won't forget.

Speed is a film that is very well made and very east to follow and keep up with, not like other action films that just speed along at a hundred miles an hour and don't even slow down to explain what is going on. Well this film doesn't make that mistake, no this movie uses it's time wisely and tells it's story at a very even pace. What I liked most about this film was it's humor the humor helps relieve some of the tension in the film(cause some of the scenes are very intense.) and it makes the movie even more fun to watch. But the main focal points that drives this film are Dennis Hopper and Keanu Reeves, if not for them this film would fail miserably and be just another typical action thriller. But they save the film and make it a slam bang , blow your mind thrill ride and that's what this film delivers under there keen and very astute performances.

There are somethings that you can overlook in this film(the critics sure did and they loved it!!) but then there are some that you just have to say, "Well what if?, "And "couldn't he have?", "Couldn't she have?" but to tell you the truth I think you'll be so engrossed in this film's story and the action you won't have time to think those type of questions.

Speed is a thrill ride that is relentless and ever more so tedious under Director Jan De Bont who's eye for film making and mind for action turns this into one of the best action films ever made and it 's one you'll want to see over and over again. Speed delivers high octane thrills, laugh out loud humor, unexpected romance and an adventure that will never let up till the credits roll. Speed is top dog.

Watchmen (2009,  R)
Watchmen
I've seen comic book adaptions that have tried and failed to garner the style and ambitious nature that watchmen brings to the screen, it soars above and beyond the regular superhero films and bust into new heights with it's dark, gritty and foreboding style. This film was brilliant on many levels and was severely overlooked by moviegoer's and some critics, but it is a top notch anti- superhero film that will go down as one of the best.

I had never heard of Watchmen prior to seeing the film. The promo said that it was the most celebrated graphic novel of all time, but being a comic book fan(not an avid reader like my dad is.) It completely slipped pass me. But after reading the graphic novels and then seeing the film really filled in the gaps for me. Yous see the film leaves out some of the more unimportant facts the graphic novel had that made it. Well boring. But the film sides steps that and keeps the most intriguing and thought provoking parts of the story, and that make this a great film.

Jackie Earle Haley( who is probably the best act in this film.) pulls no stops to make Rorschach as dangerous and psychotic as he was in the graphic novels, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is another who shines above the rest and makes his limited time on screen better than the whole cast combined. Patrick Wilson(who I've never heard of besides this film.) does good as Ozymandias and plays the part well. The rest of the cast holds up very strong and prevails in a slam bang film.

I'm not going to lie to you when I say that Watchmen is not a film for everyone. This isn't Spider-Man or X-Men. It's a very dark, violent and very chaotic film. But it's such a good one at that. Zac Synder has created an alternate 1985 the likes we have never seen before, it's a different world than the one we live and it something to relish and admire. All in all Watchmen is a force to be admired and yet feared, it's a powerful film with a powerhouse story to tell and to show us that being a superhero isn't all it's cracked up to be. Watchmen is as dark as it is smart and stylish and it's a film to be admired and watched for years to come.

Gone Baby Gone (2007,  R)
Gone Baby Gone
This movie is what you call a can't miss movie it has all the makings of a great film and let me be say that it is a great crime film at that, probably one of the best since Street Kings and Narc. It's execution and style almost borders on Noir and it does so with oh so much style and grace. Ben Affleck proves that he's as good a director as he is an actor and screenplay writer . Ben Affleck surpasses his previous screenplay which he won the Oscar for( which was just as good here) and creates an intricately woven and malicious Crime Mystery.

When I first heard about this movie I had absolutely no interest in crime films I was more into Sci-Fi then crime. But now after almost three years and finally deciding to see this film I'm glad I did. This crime drama is powerful in it's execution and sinister in it's play on words and scenarios. It moves along like a wicked little machine taking you here and there and everywhere in it's story all the while keeping you totally in tune with the plot and the going on's of the film. It's so wrapped up in it's story that when you start watching it your slowly but surely drawn in and to tell you the truth this movie won't let you out until it's over and done with. This movie has a very well rounded cast of actors that all display there talents above there normal status quot, Casey Affleck is one who stood out in this film his strong performance drove this film and made it something more than just your run of the mill crime film, his performance stole the show him and Ed Harris blew away anything they've done in the past and have made a strong stand here and came out on top. Michelle Monaghan was beautiful as always but she got sandwiched by Cast Affleck and Ed Harris' strong performances and is almost a throw away in the film(which her character was anyways.) Morgan Freeman who's small but pivotal role was not a scene stealer but he did exceptionally well for the time he was on screen.

All in all this film is something you can't miss, it's a study in the devious corrupt nature of man and the true meaning of justice for children. It's a film that you can see over and over again and it will still have the same affect as the first time you watched it. It's a devious ride of sin, lies , love and making the right choices even if they affect those around you. Gone Baby Gone is a movie that is going down in the crime section as one of the best of all time, and it rightfully deserves it this films delivers non-stop mystery and deceit that is hypnotizing and engrossing, All in all this is a can't miss thought provoking Crime drama that must be seen to be believed.
Gone Baby Gone delivers.

The X-Files - Fight the Future (1998,  PG-13)
The X-Files - Fight the Future
This big screen adaption of the phenomenally popular T.V. series is nothing short of brilliant it has all the makings of a fantastic Sci-Fi thriller and a great conspiracy thriller all wrapped up into one sinister little package.

The X-Files: Fight the Future is not an oscar worthy film but it is a great one on it's own as a stand alone it would have done fantastically but it's tie to the series' plot keeps it chained down from busting loose and showing it's true stuff. But it does good with what it's already established it brings to the Sci-Fi genre , like The Matrix did, seeing as it is The Matrix predecessor in Sci-Fi greatness. This film, in my opinion, set the benchmark for conventional Sci-Fi and turned it into what we see now.

This movie I was hesitant to see at first but after watching the first three seasons I thought i should at least give it a try and boy was I blow away. It's a mystifying and malicious experience in the art of conspiracy and deceit and it moves along at a very steady and easy pace that you can easily keep up with and a story you can understand and follow as it plays out. This is the kind of film that keeps you guessing and guessing till the end it never let's up with the intrigue and the tension, it brings so much to the table and you have no choice but to eat it all up one small morsel at a time that so good you can't resist, this film also gives you a gritter side to The X-files adventure that you didn't see in the series it puts the agent's in more peril and danger then they have ever been in before and that is also another factor that contributed to this films success.

But when it comes down to it there is probably nothing bad you can say in this films honor, it's just to good to put down. The X-Files: Fight the Future is great fun and it's a wild ride that you have toe experience to believe, it's sinister and diabolical, it calculating and efficient in it's execution of it's craft and style. it brings more than it should and it does well with it and gives you a good show for your money and if your forgiving this film won't displease you. All in all The X-Files: Fight the Future is a great Sci-Fi thriller that is see and see again fun that you can't ignore. The X-Files:Fight the Future is red hot.

The Matrix Reloaded (2003,  R)
The Matrix Reloaded
This movie is an adequate sequel, it doesn't quite live up to the original(what sequels do?) what it does is give you a ground-breaking exercise in mind bending, out of this world adventure and special effects. It's a layered and very well made Sci-Fi epic that can very well be a good sequel but saying it surpasses the earth shattering, ground breaking original is a little out of this world. Oh wait! That's exactly what these films are.

The Matrix: Reloaded is exceptional well crafted and blended Science fiction adventure it brings more to the table this time than the first one and with a bigger and more grand style it serves up course after course of mind bending twists, out of this world action and more ground breaking special effects than the first film. This movie is not as philosophical as which is something that made the first so enjoyable ad good, instead Reloaded somewhat discards of the preachy moments of the first film and focuses more on the action and the thrills, which is good and all but that sometimes does not make a movie. No what made this series great was it's dark under tones and malicious story between deceit and truth and the line that sometimes that can get blurred along the way. But is Reloaded a bad movie? No way! Is it a good sequel to the The Matrix? Most definitely. Doe sit live up to the first? Heck yeah!! SO what is it that makes a great movie? Well if you've seen The Matrix and The Matrix: Reloaded than you've seen great film making on a rare and near-grand scale. It bust off the screen in an almost three dimensional style that can't be match or copied for that matter, The Matrix: Reloaded blew all the competition away at the 2003 box office and set a new standard for movie sequel excellence and the way it should be done. It's powerful and brilliant and an ingenious machine that ticks along, slowly counting down the minutes to the end. But honestly if your watching this film will you even care about time? Or anything around you for that matter? No you'll be too caught up in the extravagance and mind boggling splendor of this movie.

Keanu Reeves turns in an adequate performance in this sequel to his super star making role in the first film. He brings more to the table than the first time around and makes the movie oh so much more better than if he wasn't in it. Carrie-Anne Moss was the only let down in this film in the first she was fantastic in this she was dragging herself just trying to keep up with Reeves and Fishburne, Fishburne was also a little stale in this film he doesn't give off the same fascination and vibe that made it so great in the first. But none the less Fishburne holds his own and comes out on top, Hugo Weaving(who I know have great respect for) keeps the same power and intensity that he had in the first film and he raises the bar in this one and goes all in with all two billion of him bring the fight to NEO's doorstep.

It's a wild and insanely fun ride that can't be missed or ignored, it's great fun for anyone with a heart for complex stories and mind bending plot twist. This film delivers more and more each time you watch it and each time you feel differently. It's a great film with a great vibe with amazing eye opening special effects. Its great for anyone in the mood for a good time then look no further than the Matrix: Reloaded it'd your guide to wild, insane and out of this world fun. The Matrix Reloaded delivers.

Definitely, Maybe (2008,  PG-13)
Definitely, Maybe
This movie is a relatively stand alone romantic comedy. It doesn't follow the formula set up by other great and well know Rom Com's before it most, notably An Affair to Remember and Sleepless in Seattle. This film brings it's own sense of style, grace and beauty to a genre mired down by bad and very bland romantic Comedies, this film brings the genre out of the dark ages and gives it some great possibilities for the future.

Definitely, Maybe was a good film for three reasons and three reasons only, 1.) It tells a story, a good story, and it sticks to it not trying to side step the plot that has already been set up. 2.) it brings together a great cast that also brings along there own charms and styles to this film. 3.) it showcase a warm and loving story that is so sweet and deeply rich with pain and love. All in all this movie showcases one of the most well made and well thought out romantic comedies I've had the pleasure of seeing in a long time.

Ryan Reynolds(who shows some serious acting chops here.) just keeps on impressing me, from his comedies to his dramas, he's got it nailed as one of Hollywood's rising stars. He brings such subtlety and humbleness to his character. More than what the character actually needs. Rachel Weisz is beautiful as always and does exceedingly well in this and plays her charter out more than the rest and really stands out of the other two women. Elizabeth Banks was alright in this, the movie could have done without her character but her's was essential to the story, she doesn't make her character very believable or showcase any depth or real emotion at all. Banks was pretty much bland in this. Isla Fisher was alright. I'll give her a passing grade on the fact that she actually tried to put in some emotion. But she does fall short allot of the time and Reynolds has to pick up some of the slack. Abigail Breslin (who I love.) didn't really impress me much as Reynolds precocious and at sometimes annoying daughter, she did display some good emotional moments and she does good with what she's suppose to do. All in all the cast does hold up very well.

This is one movie that I love to watch over and over and over and over again, just for the story none the less. It was a great story and a great movie and it deserves to be relished and adored for it's hip and cool vibe, it's sweet and kind nature and it's dedication to love and the hard times it can give us. None the less Definitely, Maybe is a love story that can't be ignored, or missed for that matter It's also a movie that will become a classic as time goes on, and it will go down as one of the best Romantic Comedies of all time. Non the less it's a refreshing and engaging film. Definitely, Maybe delivers.

Secret Window (2004,  PG-13)
Secret Window
I've seen psychological thriller's that try to scare you more than melt your brain, this one I'm proud to say does both. It's a very, very malicious and haunting thrill machine. I t brings the very essence of how horror and Psycho thriller's are suppose to be done, not with over the top gore and CGi, but with old school conventional means.

Secret Window is as sinister as it is smart it rolls along at a very steady pace and brings more to the table than what was required. It shows you what the decent into madness and utter chaos looks like, it shows you the depth and moral ambiguities of a torn man who's lost everything. With that said you can examine the physic of the mind as it cracks under extreme and constant pressure and how your choices do affect who you help, or who you hurt. This film's pace and dark style is meant to reflect horror films of the 40's, 50's, 60's and early 70's before gore became cool but that makes this film such a joy to watch and study. And that makes it a great film, not a good film, a great film.

Johnny Depp( who was fantastic here.) gives a very eccentric and brilliant performance as the conflicted writer Mort Rainey, John Turturro does exceptionally well as the sinister and vicious Shooter and he almost outclasses Depp in this film. Charles S. Dutton does well with the few scenes he's. But the main let down and I think the reason for this film's poor reviews from critics were the bland and very lame performances of Timothy Hutton( he won an oscar he can do better than this.) and Maria Bello, they really lowered the caliber and class of this film and forced Depp to try harder to make them look good and make there time on screen with him good, but he succeeds and they fail. But Turturro and Depp hold up strong.

Secret Window is a very Keene and captivating psychological/horror thriller that is surefire mind boggling entertainment and out of this world fun. This movie is great rainy day entertainment or any day entertainment for that matter it's just all around a fantastic and mind boggling film that makes you question the sanity of writers and the world they live in ( speaking as one myself.) it brings to question as the thoughts in our mind really our conscious or our selves just speaking out to to right the wrongs doe against us It's a film that ask those questions and then you have to answer. All in all Secret Window is a sinister, malicious and thought provoking film that delivers a movie going experience like no other.

The Punisher (2004,  R)
The Punisher
I'm a massive, massive Marvel fan. I like all there character's(well almost all.) But the Punisher was never on my top ten list, until now. When I saw the trailer for "The Punisher" I didn't know what to think I thought this would be just another high octane action flick with allot of dead bodies and destruction. But what I got instead was a well thought out and executed revenge film.

This movie never felt to me like a comic book adaption, I never really thought of the Punisher as a comic book character, I saw him more a tuned to being just a film character than a comic book one he never really struck me as comic book material. But this film does good with his story and it tells it well, it's thought out and very, very malicious in it's "execution"(and I use that word loosely.) It's dark and foreboding, it's smart and taunt , It's calculating and at sometimes heart breaking the Punisher has it all to be a great revenge/ comic book film. And it is, it uses it's dark and sinister style to tell it's story with a moderate pace that (like I've mentioned in other reviews.) makes it easy to follow and understand the sequence of events as they play out in front of you. SO why is it is this film so underrated and under appreciated? Is it because it is too slow and not packed with wall to wall action? That I would say, from reading other reviews first, is a definite yes. But why is it this film is not considered comic book greatness? The answer I leave up to you to find out for yourself. But The Punisher is a vicious and merciless action film that is relentless in it's execution, dangerous in it's story and is all around fun.

Thomas Jane(who I never heard of until I saw his movie.) does well as The Punisher and he plays the part with such a distraught and subtly which is rare to see in such a violent movie. John Travolta(who does better.) Is not very convincing as the antagonist his character is more liked a white collar villain than a mobster and it's almost sad when he dies since he can't even put up a good fight. But all in all the cast does very well in this very good comic book film.

This movie is not ground breaking or anything extraordinary, but what it is is great and undeniable fun It's a very smart and thoroughly entertaining film that is sure to please an action fan or comic book fan, which ever is fine. It's a very good revenge film and the story of the birth of one of Marvel's most unhinged and brutal characters. It's not a film to be cherished or admired but it is one that will make you think, it'll make you think how far would you go to get back at someone who hurt your family? And that is the key to this films success , so if your forgiving and patient I can tell you that The Punisher will not disappoint you.All in all It delivers.

The Last Samurai (2003,  R)
The Last Samurai
When I first saw this movie I didn't like the concept, I didn't like the idea of an American solider turning on his kind to fight with the enemy. Boy was I in mature! Now seeing it again now more mature and more knowledgeable of history this film has allot of meaning to me. It's epic, sprawling, beautiful, intelligent, brutal, honorable and most of all heart breaking.

The Last Samurai chronicles the story of a beaten and battered Civli War hero who's seen one too many innocent lives and people killed during his service in the war. Now in 1870's he accepts an offer to train Japans modern army to battle the samurai's, but soon in some strange twist of fate he finds himself learning form his enemy. It's an intense and heart breaking piece of film making that is of the highest caliber, it's a great and powerful film that tells a story of honor and respect and the way of the samurai. It's grand and spectacular and it gives so much of it's self and of it's story the power that it releases is in small capsules that slowly but surely open one at a time releasing strong and bracing scenes from each of them.

Tom Cruise deliverer's one of his finest performances of his career as the battered Civil War hero. Tony Goldwyn is fantastic in the scenes he's in he gives a very good an very convincing antagonistic performance. Billy Connolly(in his small role) does good as always and puts on a very commanding show as the good sergeant. But it is Ken Watanabe who steals the show, his performance is absolutely fantastic and stunning as the leader of the Samurai, he pulls no stops to prove himself and take his game to the next level, he is utterly fantastic. All in all the cast does extraordinarily well in this handsomely mounted film.

The Last Samurai is a blend of old traditions and honor mixed with American military strategies. This film put's up a very good fight and pulls no punches when it comes to story, characters, scenery it put's it's self in the middle of the fight as the Samurai did. It's a beautiful and grand film that needs to be cherished as much as it needs to be respected It's powerful in it's execution, beautiful in it's scenery and production and a staggering piece of film making at it's finest Edward Zwick tops all his previous films and creates a great and magnificent portrayal of what true honor is. All in all The Last Samurai delivers a truly great movie going experience that will not be forgotten.

The Ugly Truth (2009,  R)
The Ugly Truth
I'm an avid watcher and fan of Romantic comedies, but lately I've been feeling like there aren't any good ideas left in the genre. Well I'm happy to say that The Ugly Truth is a breath of fresh air in the long running and overly used Romantic Comedy genre.

The Ugly Truth is not Rom Com greatness but it does come pretty close to it . It holds up nicely under the raunchy undertones and the suggestive humor ,and then somewhere in between all that it comes out on top as an oddly touching film. I found that the notion that men and women don't exactly see eye to eye when it comes to finding a suitable match which in life is actually true, this film makes you think about what women see in a man and what men "really" see in a women and the point it is trying to make is very intelligent and thought provoking almost to the point that you want to see if it really is true, if women see differently from men or if we both think the exact same way when it comes to sex, foreplay, flirting and even love itself. I liked this film on allot of levels and I think it related to the issues that are going on in adult and teenage life. And it really pops out the questions that you ask yourself as a manor women, what does a man or women look for? And can a women really change a guy who already is set in his way as a womanizer? The answer your looking for and the answer to many of your questions lies within the story of this film. And let me say what a good one it is.

Gerard Butler(who I was having doubts would make a movie I liked.) really pulls no punches here to showcase his rough and gruff style as The Ugly Truth host. He brings a certain subtlety to a character you would normally hate. but in this case you can't help but like the unflinchingly true Mike Chadway. Katherine Heigl( who I don't really like much.) Does very well in this film as the control freak Abbey and she makes it so we don't find her character annoying or pathetic. Alongside Butler she does her best and comes out on top(figuratively speaking.) and pulls off a good performance. All in all both the leads do very well and make this movie a very enjoyable and at sometimes funny ride.

The Ugly Truth really is that people don't know the truth, some want it. Some don't. This films raises questions that you'll be asking yourself long after it's over, it's a very effective film in the story it tells and the point it is making. It does well with it's cast and it's jokes flow uneven sometimes but some hit the mark. It's an extremely enjoyable film that is ever so keen on the subject of man Vs. Women and the things that we both see differently on the terms of love and what is right in wrong in the ways of it. All in all this is a very good movie that is sure to please any fans of both the leads and to also please long time fans of Romantic Comedies as well, The Ugly Truth is one truth you want to be told.

Public Enemies (2009,  R)
Public Enemies
You know Gangster flicks have lost there touch over the years, they've become more and more attuned to the times and they've lost the real true sense of what a Gangster movie use to be. This film is a throwback to an Era and a style of film making long lost to time itself.

Public Enemies chronicles one of Prohibitions greatest and most notorious criminals. John Dillinger. This film was a breath of fresh air in the fact that it didn't use the things that have become so common in Crime films or even modern Gangster epics at that, It doesn't use pervasive language or Violence, it doesn't use strong sexuality(which in some is needed and some not so much.) and it also doesn't use constant drug use . It's done old school so that you can enjoy your time watching it while not being turned off by it at the same time, it's great on many levels It's kinetic energy and wild bank robberies and chases make it fun and really cool to watch. But what made this a great film is the fantastically crafted story and script by Michael Mann and his team it is thanks to him that this movie is elevated high above the regular gangster movie and shoots off into movie greatness.

Johnny Depp(who doesn't seem to stop blowing my mind.) pulls another ace out of his sleeve and makes this movie one of his best and one of cinema's best. His portrayal of Dillinger is both smart and ruthless , cunning and slick it is he who brings up the caliber of this film and makes it so great to watch unfold in front of you. Christian Bale( needs to get an oscar.) Does exceptional as the relentless blood hound of an FBI agent Melvin Purvis, his smart and unflinchingly ruthless portrayal of Dillinger's enemy is nothing short of breathtaking and brilliant. Marion Cotillard(who I never heard of before this movie.) Is not as good as I tohught she could be, seeing as she won an oscar, she kind of dragged in some places and was kind of not the strong willed type she fit the more " I need to be taken care of" type, but none the less she did alright. But all in all the great cast holds up nicely and pulls no punches or stops to make this a fantastic film.

Public Enemies is possibly one of the year's best films(No Transformer's II does not count.) It's smart, witty, clever, dangerously addictive, well played out and exceptionally well acted. It's again, as I say, a film to be relished and admired for it's style and atmospheric sense of honor to the 30's, Michael Mann creates yet another great entry in film history and can now be looked upon as one of cinema's great directors his film is nothing short of genius and bold and if you see it I can promise you it will deliver a great movie going experience. All in all Public Enemies delivers.

The Prestige (2006,  PG-13)
The Prestige
I've seen some movies that try to blow your mind, I've seen some movies that try to challenge you and make you believe in the unimaginable. The Prestige does both, it challenges you while making you think you know what is going on and just when you have it all figured out it throws a Monkey wrench into your plans and leaves you totally baffled and dumbfounded even after the ending, so the real question is what is true in this film? and what is a lie?

The Prestige Is brilliant, taunt, dark, sinister, sadistic, malicious, vicious need I go on? It's a film that you can revile in and admire for it's complex nature and dark themes. It's one of the most convincing and thought provoking period pieces I've ever seen since Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan. It enters your mind and slowly but surely starts to poke at your brain and make you think what you know and believe is nothing but an elaborate hoax, a smoke screen to blind you from the truth that is buried underneath the complexity of this film it brings out the first basic law of life. Kill or be killed. And this film takes that meaning to a whole new extreme it uses treachery, bertrayal, murder and deception to fully tell and improve the main basis of the plot and to bring out the dark nature that revenge has on a man's soul. All in all this film is nothing short of a brilliant and taunt masterpiece.

Hugh Jackman(who finally makes a great film outside of X-Men.) Brings his acting to whole other world, he pulls no stops to be cruel and vicious. He brings a great darkness the likes we have never seen and an obsessive nature like on other. Christian Bale(Who in my opinion stole the show.) Is another who rocks the house in this film, he brings a more sadistic side than Jackman and really almost out classes him in this film. Bale really steps up his game and brings a whole new level of obsessive rivalry to this movie. But all in all the whole cast does magnificently in this handsomely mounted film.

The Prestige is not your average film, it requires strict and complete attention to truly grasp and understand the story and plot. Kind of like The Matrix if you sneeze you will lose what is going on in the film, it's that complex. But when you get to understand it and know it it really is a truly magnificent film and a really treat to watch on screen. But I have just one request if you watch this movie, watch very closely because nothing in this film is what it really seems.
50
The Illusionist (2006,  PG-13)
The Illusionist
Like Morpheus said in the Matrix," What is real? How do you define real?" Well I'm here to tell you that after you see this movie you'll be asking yourself that very same question, The Illusionist is dark, mysterious, taunt, intelligent, complex, breath taking and enchanting. It's a film for the ages.

When I first saw The Illusionist I was kind of skeptical. I kept thinking that Neil Burger had ripped off The Prestige and created his own version of it. But after seeing it I was immensely surprised at how much the two films differed, The Illusionist(While not as Taunt or as sinister as The Prestige.) Had the great feel of a masterpiece and yet the humbleness of a beautiful piece of art done by an anonymous painter. It's lavish scenery and dark colors make it a real visual treat, but the true feel of the movie comes out in the way it is preformed. It moves along so gracefully and skilfully that you almost feel like your right there alongside the characters living out the story as it plays out, It's a great feeling that few films have captured or mastered for that matter, but the Illusionist does it and it gives you one wild show for your money. All in all this was nothing short of true, unflinching brilliance.

Edward Norton(Who needs to get an Oscar.) delivers one of the best and most brilliant and dark performances of his career. He plays his character with such grace and morbid style he brings a true sense of dark justice and humbleness to a rather bland character and makes him something to admire and watch. Paul Giamatti(who is an actor who I've liked for a long time.) get's to spread his wings and show his true worth in this film as the intelligent and very inept Inspector. Rufus Sewell(who has only made one other movie I like. Dark City.) Does fantastic in this and is really almost a scene stealer, his angry attitude and calm demeanor makes him a force of nature in this film. But none the less the fantastic cast gives off some serious and potent power in this dark and sinister period piece.

The Illusionist is like The Prestige in one way, you need to pay close attention, but not too close, to the story as it is laid out in front of you. Becuase I can tell you that this film has so many twist and turns you won't know which way to go in the end. It's a great film, with fantastic energy and a mind blowing story and finale. Now I have just one question for. Were you watching closely? Becuase nothing in this film is quite what it appears. Nothing.

Daredevil (2003,  PG-13)
Daredevil
This film for me was not a favorite of mine until I hit about the age of fifteen. Seeing as before that I could never grasp the idea of a blind guy kicking some serious criminal butt. But now that I'm much older and have read up on daredevil(the comics and anything else I can find on him.) He is a favorite of mine as well as the movie.

Daredevil is dark, gloomy, smart , intense and emotional it's a great well made film that has been overlooked greatly for it morbid story and it's lack of conviction and depth. But I'd have to say that it had great depth and great conviction and was a high class comic book adaption. This film was good to me for three reasons: 1.( It told it's story straight out and didn't side step it with meaningless inter plot turns. 2.) It's story is well thought out and played out on the screen and it's depth of emotion is very powerful and convincing almost to the point you want to cry.almost. 3.) Mark Steven Johnson's near-perfect script is not without witty dialogue and dark , moving sincerity. But all in all this film is not as bad as it is lead to be and it is a great entry in the Marvel comic book series.

Ben Affleck(Who finally makes a movie I can like.) plays Matt Murdock AKA Daredevil,Affleck plays daredevil with a dark and gloomy sense of style that echos the most down and out moment of Matt Murdock form the comics. Jennifer Garner(who this film could have done without.) Was a massive let down in this film she really brought down the high production values of this film and mired it with her poor performance(I mean come on! she wasn't even eye candy in this film.) Michael Clarke Duncan(Who again they could have had someone else do this part.) Does alright as the Kingpin, hes' not really convincing as the villain and not as threatening as he could have been(the cartoon version was more threatening.) But none the less he does alright. But none the less the cast doe pretty good with there assigned parts and brings this film up to comic book greatness.

Daredevil is a personally favorite of mine. I don't know I guess I like underrated film and movies that people personally don't like. But in my opinion this was a great film that if your forgiving it will deliver a great movie experience. Daredevil delivers.

District 9 (2009,  R)
District 9
I've seen Sci-Fi films that try and fail miserable to get that emotional reaction from audience by telling a recycled story and a dried up plot. But I'm finally happy to report that there is such a Si-Fi film, and this film is called "District 9."

District 9 tells the story of a lone man, who is infected by an alien biotechnology and him and him alone becomes the only hope for the salvation of the aliens. It's a powerful film that resonates with Science Fiction classics of the 50's, 60's, 70's and early to mid 80's. It's an extraordinary example of human and alien courage and the cruelty that can bestowed on both(figuratively speaking.) I haven't seen a movie in a long, long time that has had a really deep lasting and thought provoking effect on me quite like the one this film gave me, I was left speechless by the dark and foreboding sense of justice and the heart that this film put into one mans struggle to free an oppressed race. It was staggering. This is a film that will not only go down in history as one of the best of the best in Sci-Fi, but it will also be remembered for it's heroics it's deep emotional connection you form between the characters, it's one of the best films of the year and is top dog in my book. The cast is mostly unknowns but for the most part they do an absolutely fantastic job.

District 9 was a film when I first heard of it I wasn't too crazy to see it because of the documentary style of filming they showed in the trailer. But after finally seeing it I'm glad to say that it wasn't like hat at all.(well not completely.) The style and the feel of this film will capture you from the very first moment and won't let you go. It holds you in it's ingeniously woven and well thought out story web and the only way out is when the credits roll. But none the less District 9 is a film you will not forget until the day you die, it's a film not quite like anything you've ever seen or will ever see again, it's an ingenious little sleeper with a great heart and amazing emotional depth and character, it's technically brilliant and fantastically entertaining. All in all it delivers.

Collateral (2004,  R)
Collateral
Action films I'm always hesitant to see due to the fact that they can't balance out the story and the big sweeping action sequences in it.(Transformers and it's sequel comes to mind.) But now I've finally found another film, besides Die Hard, that perfectly balances story, action, and character development to the point of absolute perfection.

I first heard of Collateral when it was recommended to me by a friend, seeing as none of my friends have good taste in films I wanted to pass it up. Well I'm now happy to say I'm glad I didn't. It was everything that action films today should be: taunt, suspenseful, extraordinarily smart, well thought out. Need I continue? Michael Mann(Who is the man! no pun intended. ) Crafts an ingenious little machine that creeps along at first very slow and then kicks it into full gear to blow your minds out in the end. It's bold and refreshing and is something amazing to watch unfold on screen as the cat and dog fight between Cruise and Foxx heats up. But none the less this is a brilliant film that is an amazing visual treat for the eyes and the senses.

Tom Cruise(who gives another staggering and mind blowing performance.) plays a hit man like you've never seen before, he plays one with a conscience it is something truly amazing and breath taking to watch the way his character works on screen the ruthless way he kills without a seconds hesitation and then out of nowhere show's emotion for one of his kills, it's amazing and something to admire. Jamie Foxx(Who also delivers a fantastic performance here.) plays the cabby who has to drive around Cruise's character while he systematically whacks people. Foxx's performance is crucial and is in many ways, a contrast to Cruise's character and the way they almost become friends in a weird way is another fascinating thing to watch play out on screen. But all in all the two main leads and the rest of the cast hold up sturdy and strong in this brilliant film.

Collateral is very complex in the way it portrays the relationship of the two main character's is played out so beautifully. The whole film is beautiful it's an amazing and monumental achievement in film making and is one of Cruise's and Foxx's best films to date. It's great fun to watch and see unfold in front of you and is shocking and heart breaking at the same time. All in all this is one hit you want to be in on.

Blade Runner (1982,  R)

In the Mouth of Madness (1995,  R)
In the Mouth of Madness
As an aspiring author seeing this film was something magical and at the same time extremely disturbing. In the Mouth of Madness is not your typical horror, it may look like that from the trailer but let me tell you first hand that this film, as the title suggest, is pure and unflinching madness.

In the Mouth of Madness has to be one of the most effective and well thought out horror pictures of the 90's maybe even today. It draws it's brilliance and dark theme straight from the minds of John Carpenter and Stephen King. It's morbid, dark, ingenious and oh so spooky. It's a film that resonates with the earlier works of John"Spooky" Carpenter and without him this film would have failed miserably to really induce any real madness or scares. It's a brilliant and severely underrated film that if you watch it It will driver you mad.

San Neill(Who does good here.) has some charm and great skill to be in horror as in half the movie once he get's to Hobbs End he is almost always petrified with fear at the horrific things he seems. It's quite amazing to watch and see how your fear can mount and grow into your worst paranoiac nightmare when you least expect it. But none the less the cast does great in this dark psychological horror film.

This film is to me what Titanic is to romance fans. It's a horror gem the likes you have never really quite seen it's the type of film that will haunt your dreams and it will bleed into your reality making everything around you into something horrifying. it's a great film to see, but I have just one request if you do, be careful because if your not I can promise you this film will drive you absolutely mad.

Man on Fire (2004,  R)
Man on Fire
I haven't seen the 1987 original that inspired this excellent and brilliant 2004 remake. But after seeing this one I don't think I want to see the original. Tony Scott has, in my opinion, finally crafted an emotionally soaring and brilliant intense action film that blends the both drama and mind blowing action sequences into one seamless and beautifully crafted film.

Man on Fire is as smart as it is ruthless and cunning. It's got the great style of all Tony Scott films but with the smarts and emotional depth of character that make this one of his best ever, while not as hip and as cool as most of his earlier work it boast a very dark and unique visual style that is fantastic and must be admired. It's a great film for fans of revenge/action films and should go down as one of the best.

Denzel Washington(who blows my mind in this one.) plays the distraught and revenge driven anti-hero like no other. He pulls no punches to make his performance is fantastic and something to admire and watch. Christopher Walken(who is almost always good in all his films.) is amazing as the friend of Washington, he plays it with such style and quirky charm. Dakota Fanning(Who is going to get an Oscar sooner or later.) Is amazing in this film as the savior of Washington and the main reason for his rampage trough Mexico City. She is a real, true site to see. But nine the less the cats does amazing in this amazing action thriller.

Man on Fire is not your usual revenge film it's extremely dramatic and heartfelt. Tony Scott crafts a brilliant and amazing film with a mind blowing visual style, brilliant performances and straightforward dialogue and amazing action It's a great film to enjoy and admire. But none the less Man on Fire is one flame you don't want to put out till the very end.

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 (2009,  R)
The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3
I like Tony Scott I think he's an awesome director with a great style and a brilliant way of film making. But he just didn't know how to use it, until now.

The Taking of Pelham 123 is a breathtaking, mind blowing, brilliant, atmospheric, stylish, daring and clever. It's an action drama or heist drama that's got the heart the depth of character and the emotion to be worthy of greatness. Tony Scott the director of such favorites as Man on Fire(2004), Deja Vu(2006) and Top Gun(1986) finally crafts his masterpiece with this high stakes cat and mouse game. He brings such a dark and flashy style to a relatively normal heist thriller he turns it into something more, much more and that is the key to this films success. But all in all this movie wasn't as bad as some critics make it out to be, in fact it was much better than I first thought, but none the less and excellent film by Tony Scott.

Denzel Washington(Who does fantastic here.) is amazing as the every day, regular Joe type hero and again elevates a regular character and turns it into something amazing to watch. John Travolta(Who blew me away in this.)Is utterly fantastic as the snarling, ruthless and smart villain. He turns yet another a typical villain type into something truly malicious and sinister. But all in all the cast does exceptionally well in this beautifully crafted and well made film.

The Taking of Pelham 123(or TTP 123 as I like to call it.) Is not average by any means. It's a well thought out and calculating Action film, with great performances a great script, witty dialogue and a mind bending twist you won't see coming. All in all TTP 123 is a heist you want to be in on.
58
Inside Man (2006,  R)
Inside Man
I've seen allot of heist films that try to give you a mind blowing twist and sufficient action to sustain you all the way through the illogical plot and the boring story. Inside Man side steps that and gives you a fresh, original and exceedingly smart cat and mouse game the likes you've never seen.

Inside Man was a film I heard of in passing from a friend of mine(as you may know my friends have terrible taste in movies.) He told me this movie sucked so bad that it wasn't even funny. I'm glad that I didn't listen to him or I would have never had the chance to see this amazing and brilliant heist film. Spike Lee has crafted an immensely entertaining and unique movie experience the likes of which no ones has ever seen. It's cunning and ruthless in the way it plays out but subtle and at a steady of enough pace that you can follow the story as it goes along. But none the less Spike Lee's Inside Man is nothing short of brilliant and breathtaking.

Denzel Washington(who rocks the house in this one.) Is again at his best in his second outing with director Spike Lee. Washington brings the class, the style and ferocity to this movie as the brilliant and slightly jaded hostage negotiator. Clive Owen(Who really steals the show in this.) Is nothing short of brilliant, cunning, ruthless and resourceful as the slick mastermind of the heist. Jodie Foster is at her cut throat best in this as the powerful broker, she really is something amazing to watch and at the same time you want to kill her. But none the less the cast does magnificently in this outrageoulsy cool crime caper.

Inside Man is something you don't see coming, it's a film that has a twist that blows you away and at the same times leaves you wondering how they did it. It's a truly compelling and sinister heist film that is like nothing you've ever seen before or will ever see again for that matter. All in all Inside Man delivers.

The Thing (1982,  R)
The Thing
I'm at that stage in my movie watching days where horror films have no affect on me anymore. I've seen them all: Halloween(1978), Rob Zombie's Halloween, Friday the 13th(1980), Friday the 13th(2009). It just seems that horror doesn't scare me any more like it use to, at least that's what I thought until I saw John Carpenter's "The Thing".

The Thing is not like most Sci-Fi horror, most Sc-Fi horror films use eerie space ships and extreme violence to tell the story. Seeing as most directors think that that is exactly what film goers want. Well I'm here to tell you that isn't the case, John Carpenter doesn't use over abundance of CGI and gore to tell his story no, Carpenter use the basic necessitates to tell his story of horror. And with this he creates the building block for all Science Fiction horror that has followed. The Thing is s something of immense and unparalleled horror the likes you've never seen before. Kurt Russell(Who did great here.) Is awesome as the anti- hero he put's a great spin on the style of the story and brings some real true scenes of do or die. But all in all the cast does great in this bone chilling and paranoiac Sci-Fi horror film.

The Thing is a true masterpiece in the genre of horror It's a film that really stands out as one of the best and darkest of the bunch. John Carpenter has crafted a masterstroke and literally almost invented Sci-Fi horror and thanks to him we have one of the first ever truly shocking entries. The Thing is a brilliance, dark, horrific, grotesque and paranoiac horror film like no other. All in all it delivers.

9 (2009,  PG-13)
9
I first heard about "9" like most people did, sitting a dark movie theater waiting for my movie to play. And as I was waiting a quaint and dark little trailer started to roll it showed a bombed out city and as I watched I became more and more intrigued at the premise of the film and the dark, Gothic style it infused with the brilliant and breathtaking animation. But I didn't see it it until about a month later and now I'm regretting not having seen it while it was in theaters, Shane Acker and Tim Burton's "9" is brilliant, heartbreaking, dark, intense, breathtaking and at sometimes scary.

"9" is not a movie I would show my three step-sisters, the reason is is that "9" is at sometimes very scary and is a little too dark and violent for the mainstream children audience of 5-9 but.The age group of 10-50 may enjoy this film much more than the younger seeing as it is aimed at the more adult and teenage audience. But with that said "9" is a sweeping animated epic that sucks you into a dystopia world and takes you on an adventure the likes you've never seen before, this film get's it's themes straight from the visionary minds of producer Tim Burton and Director Shane Acker they create a vision of a destroyed world and tell you a story of the nine little voodoo dolls that have to save civilization, It's quite a fascinating story and will surely entertain you while it blows your mind as well. Some people think this film doesn't deserve much acclaim or praise, but I'm sorry to say this film deserves every bit of the praise It something new and fresh and not kiddish at all but it does teach some great morals in it like friendship, overcoming your fear and rising to the occasion to be more than what you really are. All in all "9" is a fun, fantastic, action packed, dark and mythic Sci-Fi animated epic like no other.

Elijah wood, Jennifer Connelly, Martin Landau, John C. Reilly, Christoper Plummer and Fred Tatasciore are all fantastic in this as the nine voodoo dolls tasked with stopping the deadly machines. They all bring something different to there characters. Elijah wood(9) brings a soft spoken and heroic prowess to his young character, and he makes 9 more of a hero than a coward he turns him into a leader that is small but has a big heart(metaphorically speaking.). Fred Tatsciore(you may know him as the man who voices Bruce Banner in The Ultimate Avengers.) Brings a strong but dim bulled wit to his character 8, his style and power is more driven toward brute force than brains seeing as 8 is the giant out of the nine, but none the less he brings a little likability to a rather not so likable character. Jennifer Connelly(7) Is tough, smart and strong, she is the second in command to 9, or that's how I see it. Connelly brings her toughness and power to an already impressive and imposing character. 7 is the strongest and the fighter out of the group, she is a force of nature and is not to be taken lightly. Crispin Glover(6) brings a quirky and Tim Burton type charm to this film as the lovable and misunderstood painter of the group, he's fantastic in the scenes he's in and he really brings the kindness and gentle quality to this film. John C. Reilly(5) plays the very friendly and caring 5, hr brings more than what is needed and that is alright because that humanizes the film and brings out of the extreme darkness set by the films story. while the twins 3 and 4 don't say anything they are very sweet and timid characters and are great to have on screen. Martin Landau(2) is the old quirk out of them. And while he may not have much screen time h e does do good at bringing a friendly and smart quality to his character. Christopher Plummer(1) Is the crass, cowardly and not so great leader of the nine. His character believes in hiding instead of learning the truth behind what has happened to the world around them and fighting back, but none the less Plummer does great with his character and brings great power to him. But all in all the cast does a fantastic job n this film and really elevates it to true greatness among the animated films.

"9" Is fantastic in every way imaginable and may not be very suitable for small children but anyone with a love of Tim Burton and his dark world will enjoy this film as much as I did. It's a fun filled Science Fiction epic that has ushered the way for more mature animated films and the breathtaking CGI effects and action sequences are more well worth the price of rental or admission. All in all "9" delivers.

El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) (2006,  R)
El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth)
Alice in Wonderland is one of the most beloved stories of our time, It tells of a young girl who falls down a rabbit hole and get's transported to another world where strange creatures rule and the possibilities of magic and adventure are endless. But it's been nearly 144 years since that story first appeared and ever since then film makers have been trying to tell the story a different way for years, But thanks to Guillermo del Toro we have the greatest spin off of all, El Laberinto del Fauno, or in English, Pan's Labyrinth.

Guillermo del Toro has crafted a Fantasy adventure the likes no one has ever seen before, and I know that I've said that before but this film breaks some amazing new grounds in special effects and makeup. It's just a film that you have to seen to really, truly believe because if you love Fantasy and dark, deeply emotional films than this is your ticket. While this film is brilliant in every way imaginable it does have it's downside, The film is very creepy and violent and not suited for children and may leave them with nightmares of the grotesque creatures that are shown in this film. But none the less Pan's Labyrinth is a dark and beautiful film It's one of the most exhilarating movie experiences you will ever have and it's a film you will not forget.

The Spanish cast of actors do amazing in this and give this film it's true power and worth, they bring a humanized side to an overall Fantasy movie and bring the stark reality of love, death, cruelty, sorrow and happiness to this film. All in all there fantastic in this film.

Pan's Labyrinth is brilliant, dark, engaging, relentlessly entertaining, heart breaking, horrifying and beautiful. It's a film with so much heart and so much loss and amazing fantasy adventure that when the movie starts your sucked into a world where your greatest fantasies live. And where your greatest nightmare's can lie as well It's a bold , new ground of film making that will enchant and blow your mind. All in all Pan's Labyrinth is one adventure you do want to take.

Chinatown (1974,  R)
Chinatown
When noir was first created in the 40's, it was the biggest thing to hit films ever. It created a new style of film making the likes of which no one had ever seen before. it broke new ground in cinematography and set the benchmark for crime films of that era. Well the 40's and 50's ended and the noir genre fell off the earth, until 1974 when a director named Roman Polanski decided he wanted to make a period piece mystery film centered in and around Los Angeles. And his film happened to just be named, Chinatown.

When I was younger I never heard of Roman Polanski's Chinatown, I didn't hear of it until I was fifteen and even then it took me a year to see it. And now that I have I'm glad I did, Chinatown was everything a noir fan or a fan of movies could hope for; It's brilliant, extremely well acted, complex and at sometimes dark. It's one of the most well made and most brilliant Neo-Noir I've ever seen since L.A. Confidential, this film get's everything right and it plays out well but the only thing that it get's wrong is the pace. The pace is so slow in the first two acts nut after the third kicks in you've got some serious intrigue and mystery. But all in all this film is nothing short of breathtaking and intriguing, It's the kind of movie that once your in. Your in.

Jack Nicholson turns in a fantastic performance as the jaded P.I. hired to crack this case, he is amazing to watch onscreen and he gives such a mysterious and dark presence to an otherwise standard character. Faye Dunaway is also fantastic in this, she plays the mysterious lover of J.J. Gitties and in the film you don't know who she really is and what she really wants. Or even if she can be trusted. But none the less the cast does utterly fantastic here they bring a standard Noir film out of oblivion and turn it into a a movie experience that will blow you away.

While Chinatown did set the bar for Neo-Noir's it also had the bad misfortune of being far too boring for it's own good. But It makes that up with it's inguinal storyline and amazing performances which will more than satisfy any fan of Noir or Nicholson, or film for that matter. All in all Chinatown is one case you want in on.

Sleepy Hollow (1999,  R)

Halloween (1978,  R)

The Two Jakes (1990,  R)
The Two Jakes
This 1990 sequel to the critically acclaimed hit Chinatown has lost some of it's edge and precision over the years but it hasn't lost the heart or the powerful sense of intrigue and mystery that the first film had. But what The Two Jakes delivers is nothing short of smart and cool under the vibrant direction of star Jack Nicholson and the help of the impressive supporting cast that includes Ruben Blades, Harvey Keitel Richard Farnsworth, David Keith and Madeleine Stowe. But what really catches you about this movie is not the intriguing new story laid out for you It's the haunted past of the first film that keeps popping up once ever so often to drive this film and point out he fact that time doesn't heal old wounds.

The Two Jakes has a highly original story blended with the dark and bleak reality of the events that occurred at the middle and end of Chinatown, while not as potent or as well acted as the '74 classic but it has it's moments where it soars above the original and there are moments where it doesn't even come close to succeeding the original. But this film does give you a good dose of mystery and intrigue even if it is at sometimes a little one sided.

Jack Nicholson is great as ever as J.J. Gitties but being older has kind of taken the edge and some of the strength out of the character and made him less of a commanding power on the screen. But never the less Nicholson pulls it off amazingly. Harvey Keitel is fantastic as the other Jake, he brings the betrayal and corruption to the film and is perfectly suited for the role. Madeline Stowe really is a factor for why this film is not as great as it could have been, she is over acting so much in the film that her narcissistic character almost becomes a nuisances. Ruben Blades is slick as the mobster best friend to Harvey Keitel but he also is kind of over and under acting in some of the scenes he's in but nevertheless pulls it off without a hitch. All in all the cast is good here and makes this film a worthy sequel.

The Two Jakes is not as, like I said earlier, near perfect or as gritty and dark as the Chinatown of old, but what it does have is a great and undeniable sense of what is right and what is wrong and how far too go when it comes to digging up the truth. Even when sometimes the truth is best to stay buried. The Two Jakes is not a case you need to jump on right now but it is one you need to look into when the time is right.

Batman (1989,  PG-13)
Batman
Tim Burton's Batman was a quintessential film when it was released in 1989, it brought Batman out of the ages of dumb comic book styled interpretations and brought him into the light(figuratively speaking.) thanks to the masterful genius of Tim Burton.

Batman was a always a childhood hero of mine, so naturally this film was a childhood favorite of mine to watch whenever it is on the television. I still watch it when it comes on it's just that good and that refreshing. Tim Burton crafts a much darker and more deeply conflicted Batman that people had never seen before in those days. Burton set the benchmark and the future for Batman and how he should be played, it's a brilliant and dark start to one of the most beloved comic book hero's of all time. And is one of my favorite Tim Burton movies to date. All in all Batman is fantastic entertainment that won't cease to let up.

Michael Keaton, who is another actor I never heard of outside of this film until I saw Beetlejuice, Is amazing as Bruce Wayne/Batman. He brings such despair and sorrow to his character he is just all around amazing in this. Jack Nicholson( Who rocks my world in this.) Is the show stealer as the maniacal and psychopathic Joker. I haven't seen anyone do it this good since Heath Ledger took the role in 2008(may he rest in peace.) But Nicholson is just plain nuts in this! He pulls off some of the things that made the Joker famous in the first place. Kim Basinger(Who is as lovely and great as ever.) Plays the smart and sexy Vicky Vale. She does great with the part and is good to look at but drags a little in some scenes and is nothing more than the damsel in distress. But all in all the cast is amazing in this handsomely mounted and well executed film.

Tm Burton's Batman is dark, compelling, amazing, breathtaking and oddly beautiful. It's a film that you can enjoy and watch as many times as you can take it, It's just that great and just that fun. All in all Batman is a landmark film in comic book adaptions and it really helped jump start a revolution in that area and is the greatest out of the Batman flick, hands down. It delivers.
68
Batman Returns (1992,  PG-13)
Batman Returns
While not the 1989 original this 1992 sequel to the mega hit "Batman" is nothing short of brilliant thanks to Tim Burton's return to direct and Michael Keaton second and sad to say, final outing as the legendary dark Knight. Batman Returns is dark, foreboding, smart, stylish, taunt and riveting it's a worthy sequel and entry in the Batman franchise.

Batman Returns while not as great as the 1989, does have it's moments that really standout and are memorable. It's a great film and while too scary and dark for young children it is great entertainment for teenager's and adults alike. Tim Burton continues his trend of dark and complex story development, all the while boggling our minds with his amazing style of film making and ingenious ideals. He choose his actors wisely and in this all three of the main cast members shine and bring amazing power to there characters under his direction. All in all this is a superbly crafted and well executed film that is one of my personal favorites, as well as one of Tim Burton's best films.

Michael Keaton returns as the Dark Knight and is better than ever. He brings more human qualities and star power than he did in the first one. Keaton really brings out the darkness in Batman and in some spots in the movie it shows and in other spots he brings Batman out of the darkness and into the light, he's all around fantastic here. Danny DeVito is mind blowing as the grotesque Penguin. He show us a side to an old villain of the Bat like we've never seen and thanks to the costume designer and Burton he is more horrifying than ever. Christoper Walken is great as the sleazy judge who will do anytyhing to get ahead. While Walken brings his usual style to the film he also brings a quirky viciousness and evil not to commonly played out in white collar villain types, he's all around astounding. Michelle Pfieffer is slick, cool and captivating as Catwomen(seeing as she is the only one to ever play it right.) Pfieffer is great to watch onscreen but at times she becomes tiring and annyoing, but none the less she does great. All in all the cast is nothing short of strong and forceful in this film.

Batman Returns is not for those that scare easily and is at sometimes too dark and violent for younger audiences, but as a whole it is something to admire and revile. While it doesn't stake out new grounds it does entertain well and give you a good show for your money. Batman Returns delivers a knockout show that is both memorable and fantastic. It delivers.
69
Batman Forever (1995,  PG-13)
Batman Forever
While this one is not as great as the two first Batman films directed by Tim Burton, it does have it's quirks and charms about it. While Joel Schumacher is in no way Tim Burton, he does make due with the style that Burton set forth.

Batman Forever continues the stylish and dark tradition of the earlier films while infusing the comedic wit and style of Joel Schumacher which the earlier films lacked.Except for Batman. It's got great heart and power driven from the new Batman, Val Kilmer(who rocks here.) While I grew up with the first two I also remember this one much more due to me watching it on almost every Saturday nights. But some people feel this film doesn't live up to the first two well I'm here to tell you that it most certainly does. It's dark, brooding, smart, sexy, stylish, witty and foreboding. It's an all around great third installment to the Batman series and is worthy of being called great.

Val Kilmer(who at first I wasn't to happy to see play Batman.) Does utterly fantastic here as The Dark Knight he brings a Shakespearean quality and wit to an otherwise overwhelmingly serious character. It's something refreshing to see that kind of style being put into the character and it makes Batman seem even more great. Nicole Kidman(who was at her all time sexiest here.) Is the hot doctor who falls for Bruce Wayne and for Batman, It's great and sexy at the same time to see how this little love affair plays out on screen. Kidman does great here and is one of the true highlights of this film. She brings class, style and great charm and helps turn what could have been an oddball Batman film into great movie making. Tommy Lee Jones rocks the house as the maniacal Two-Face, while not as good as Aaron Eckhart who took over later. He does give off some serious power and madness in this and gives one wild and crazy performance. Jim Carrey is the one who really stole the show in this one, he is just down right mad as The Riddler, he's out of control and oh so zany to the point you want to either totally love him or punch him(I choose to love his performance.) But all in all Carrey is the real show in this film and is fantastic to watch. The cast does fantastic under the direction of Joel Schumacher and they pull off another home run in the Batman Franchise.

Batman Forever may not please many fans of Batman and Batman Returns, but it will garner new ones due to it's wild and out of control action sequences, slick hand to hand fights, cool visuals and amazing performances. All in all Batman Forever is a great comic book adaption and is, in my opinion, one of the best.

Batman Begins (2005,  PG-13)
Batman Begins
I have seen every incarnation of the legendary Batman character, Batman(1989), Batman Returns(1992), Batman Forever(1995), Batman and Robin(1997). But after watching the previous four and one failing me miserably I had given up hope of a fifth Batman movie until a British filmmaker by the name of Christoper Nolan stepped up to the plate and dared to do what no one had done since Burton, make a serious and dark Batman incarnation.

Batman Begins take audiences all the way back to the beginning of the career of the fabled Dark Knight, we are show in chronological order the sequences of events leading up to the beginning of his reign as the silent guardian of Gotham City. It's a dark, exceedingly smart, well crated and well written reboot of the Batman series. It's all thanks to Chris Nolan, who brought this franchise out of oblivion and back to it's roots stronger and better than ever before. He has truly crafted a movie experience and a comic book adaption like no other.

Christian Bale(Who is no Michael Keaton.) Is fantastic here and does amazing at playing a more disturbed and distraught Bruce Wayne the likes we've never seen before. Michael Cane(Taking over for four time predecessor Michael Gough.) Is amazing as the trusty and witty Alfred Pennyworth he is simply magnificent and amazing to watch onscreen as Bruce Wayne's surrogate father. Gary Oldman(who I had no doubts about for this film.) Is another class act in this film as the honest and trustworthy Jim Gordon(take mind this is Pre-Commissioner Gordon.) Oldman rocks the house as Gordon and brings much more to the character than Pat Hinge did, he is utterly fantastic. Liam Neeson is the show stealer as the vicious and maniacal Ra's Al Ghul he is nothing short of brilliant and poetic he brings much more to the table than the rest of the cast and outclasses them in some parts of the movie, but none the less Neeson rocks in this. The cast in all does great with there assigned parts and really makes this film a great an quintessential movie in the Batman Franchise.

Batman Begins is one of those rare movies that you like right off the bat. You can't hate it because it's too good and well made, and you've got to like it because of the nature of the film and the comic book character that is being put to the ultimate test on screen. All in all Chris Nolan's Batman Begins is fantastic and something to admire and relish as time goes on, it's masterpiece just like the original and a step up for comic book adaptions. All in all it delivers.
71
The Dark Knight (2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight
Batman Begins brought The Caped Crusader out of the dark ages(so to speak.) It brought a new and refreshing look at the world of Gotham and the interesting and twisted characters that live within it's realm. I never thought that they could create such a visual and exceedingly darker Batman film. But after seeing The Dark Knight all those doubts are gone.

The Dark Knight is the 2008 follow up to the mega critical and commercial smash Batman Begins. It picks up right where the first left off and throws us head on into it's dark and menacing world, what Chris Nolan didn't count on was when he thought of reviving the long dead Joker's cinematic side he never knew that that Joker going head to head with his long time arch rival Batman would thrill and entice audiences, but thanks to his steady hand and brilliant film making techniques, he turned what would have been a standard Batman sequel into something more, he turned it into the ultimate Batman movie and one of the greatest comic book adaptions of all time.

Christian Bale returns as the eccentric and valiant Bruce Wayne/ Batman like you've never seen him before. He puts such emotion and power into the character and drives him into new territories solidifying Bale as an a class act. Heath Ledger(May he rest in peace.) Is the real star of this show, he simply mind blowing, dark, sadistic, scary, haunting, menacing and malicious as Batman's number one rival, The Joker. Ledger creates an astounding amount of palpable reality around a character that over the years has been made to be nothing more than a funny man instead of the homicidal maniac The Joker is I've never seen my favorite Batman villain played like this before, he's so dark and scary Nothing like the Cesar Romero incarnation or Jack Nicholson's. No. Ledger is so different in oh so many ways that words can't describe it he's the quintessential and now no one can step up to fill his shoes, no one. Aaron Eckhart(who rocked my world in this film.) Is nothing short of vicious and evil as the horribly scared and mentally unstable Two-Face. Eckhart brings a human quality to this character which is new and refreshing, Tommy Lee Jones did great but his incarnation was just wild and crazy not emotionally distraught and revenge driven like he is here, it's something to admire and be shocked by at the same time. But none the less the cast does absolutely Fantastic here in this beautifully crafted and handsomely made film.

The Dark Knight is not the average Superhero/comic book adaption, It side steps the things that made it's predecessors(The Original four Batman films.) Well sort of goof in some ways. But it does pay homage to the older films( The good ones at least.) And for that this makes my top ten list. It's an all around great movie with amazing energy and a dark, stark reality of how ones choices in life can affect what happens to those around him/her. All in all It's one of the best of 2008 and one of the best comic book adaptions of all time that delivers a mind bending experience that you soon won't forget.
72
Spider-Man (2002,  PG-13)
Spider-Man
When I heard they had made a big screen, live action adaption of one of Marvels most profitable and most popular heroes, Spider-Man I was a little less than enthusiastic seeing as I grew up watching the Spider-Man 1994 animated series when I was younger. But after finally viewing it and seeing it for what it is, Sam Rami's Spider-Man is a masterstroke among the comic book films and is quite possible the film that started the Marvel revolution.

Spider-Man when I first saw it I thought it was a little bit contrived and pointless but now seeing it again after a long time I fully appreciate the great style and care that was put into making this movie. Sam Rami crafts a heartfelt, smart, gutsy and highly entertaining Super hero movie, it's one of the best of the best of the best and it really set the benchmark for all other Superhero movies to follow.

Tobey Maguire(Who was really a nobody till he made this movie.) Shines here as everyone's favorite wall crawler he is very humble, smart and caring but he lacks the wit and humor that made Spidey so cool back in the day, but Maguire makes up for that character flaw with his his great sense of right and wrong and cool, hyper energy as Spidey makes due. Willem Dafoe(Who really steals the show.) Is sinister, psychotic, malicious, smart and cunning as Spidey's arch rival The Green Goblin, he brings the same power and sense of evil that The Goblin had in the comics and is a true blue, straight from the mind of Stan Lee incarnation of how the character was on paper and makes it something really amazing to watch Dafoe play him, he rocks the house. Kirsten Dunst(While not my first choice for MJ.) She does good here as the main love interest of Peter Parker/Spider-Man while she has the look and the style she lacks in the emotion department sometimes in the film being reduced to nothing but pure eye candy, but that's what MJ was in the series, the comics and now in the movies, but all in all Dunst does good here. The cast is like I said fantastic and does great with there assigned part, they really bring this film up into the stratosphere of greatness and make this one of the best comic book movies around.

Spider-Man is original in the best sense and is something of a stand alone amongst the sea of other comic book adaptions, It's a favorite of mine and a great piece of film making that is too be cherished and loved for the great entertainment and story that it tells. All in all Spider-Man is one wild, web slinging ride you don't want to miss.
73
Hulk (2003,  PG-13)
Hulk
I never watched the 70's T.V. series that first brought the Incredible Hulk to people everywhere, but I have had the pleasure of watching Ang Lee's 2003 big screen adaption of the big green brute. It's a great film that is severely underrated and is not respected as it should, Ang Lee's Hulk is dark, smart, stylish, atmospheric, heart breaking and taunt.

Hulk I didn't like at first I thought it was a little pointless and boring, but after watching it years later I see it for the great comic book adaption it is. It's got great qualities and a power that lies deep within it's complex and thoroughly well thought out plot and story. While not as convincing and Hulk as most people would hope for. It does give us a great look and strong appeal of character and the emotional depth and amazing CGI effects to really keep you interested and incited by this slow moving, but brilliant Comic book adaption.

Eric Bana(Who is great here.) Plays the Hulk with such subtly, humanity and anger. He brings so much more to the table than what is needed and does great with it and gives it all he's got and in the end he comes out on top. Sam Elliot(Who rules here.) Is strong, tough and Ahab obsessed with getting the Hulk It's a thrilling and thought provoking thing to see unfold on screen as you get to see a calculating military man turn into a obsessed hunter. Nick Nolte(Who I don't like but does great here.) He is something of a show stealer as the maniacal and extremely disturbed father of Bruce Banner, he showcases some serious acting chops here and is a real treat to see in this movie. Jennifer Connelly who is amazing and very emotionally powerful as Bruce Banner's love Betty Ross. She brings a heart and soul to this film and she make sit another reasons to see it. But none the less the cast does fantastic here and really helps elevate this film from average to amazing.

Hulk is not a fan favorite because of it's slow pace and not so smashing nature. But I think it's a film to admire and devil in how well made and thought provoking it is a good film that is harshly overlooked. And If your very forgiving and kind It will entertain. All in all Hulk delvers.
74
Spider-Man 2 (2004,  PG-13)
Spider-Man 2
Spider-Man to me helped jump start the Marvel revolution, it set fourth standards in comic book adaption greatness that have yet to be surpassed or matched. And with Spider-Man 2 the bar just keeps rising.

Spider-Man 2 is not just your ordinary sequel, It's a sequel that improves and even over powers the original. It's dark, brilliant, thoroughly well made to the point of perfection, emotionally convincing and extremely powerful, it's a film that grabs you from the very beginning and won't let you go until the credits finally role. It's emotionally convincing and powerful in the way it plays out the trails and tribulations of everyone's favorite web head.

Tobey Maguire(Who again rocks the house.) Is great as Spider-Man again and this time around he's even better than before, he brings more humanity and frailty to Peter Parker/Spider-Man which was what was lacking in the first for the most part of it. Now we see what the life of Super Heroism can do to man and how much it affects him and those around him. Kirsten Dunst(Who is even better here than the first.) Is strong and caring as Mary Jane Watson the love of Peter Parker's life. James Franco(Who almost steals the show.) is dark, foreboding and near sinister as the best friend of Parker and the sworn enemy of Spider-Man he really put's more power into the role than his first outing and is just spectacular here. Alfred Molina(The man who stole the picture.) Is sinister, smart and all around just a great bad guy. He brings out the human side of one my favorite Spider-Man and it truly is a sight to see the way he plays it on the screen. But none the less the cast does phenomenal here and is a real treat to see in action.

Spider-Man 2 is Sam Rami's true masterpiece it's brilliant and near-flawless in every way It's a great character study and at the same time a great look into the life of an everyday man and the choices he has to make as a super hero. All in all this film is great entertainment and another worthy and powerful entry in the comic book genre.
75
The Incredible Hulk (2008,  PG-13)
The Incredible Hulk
While the 2003 Hulk was a failure with fans this 2008 reboot is stylish, fast paced, brutal, dark, powerful, smart and just all around fun. The Incredible Hulk is an amazing step up from the firs tin action and in the brutal anger that is Hulk, but it lacks in the emotion department and is at sometimes preposterous and absurd. But ti makes up for that with mind blowing action and a great story and plot to keep it going.

The Incredible Hulk I was hesitant to see, I thought with the cast change and the change of the director but after I finally saw the trailer I broke down and decided to see it. And now I'm glad I did, not only is this film a major improvement in the action department it improves on the Hulk's designs as well. It's an all around great comic book with great heart and a good moral too it, even a monster can be the good guy.

Edward Norton(Who is fantastic here.) Is just as good as Bana as the Hulk, maybe even a little better in some places. He a brings a very humble and less geeky quality than Bana did, he also brings to the table a more sympathetic and clever Bruce Banner than were use to. Banner usual is not as witty or as clever at getting out of tight spots as her is here and to me that is a major step up in the right direction. Live Tyler(Who is all looks.) Is terrible as Betty Ross, while she has the attitude she lacks the power and the strength that Connelly originally gave to the role and is sort of an eye sore in the film, but she does try hard and does good for the most part. Tim Roth(The man who almost stole the show.) Is fantastic as the smart and ruthless as The Abomination the rival of the Hulk. Roth really puts back the bad in bad guy and shines above the rest as a key player in the film. William Hurt(Who is the true show stealer.) Is utterly amazing as General Thaddeus"Thunderbolt" Ross the obsessive military head out to get Banner, He brings the star power and the class and really helps boost the style and feel of this film. But none the less the cast does a good job here and elevates this a little bit closer to comic book greatness.

The Incredible Hulk in my book can't surpass the original, but as a film it does do that in some way and in some ways it doesn't. It has the power and the angry nature that made Hulk well, Hulk but ti lacks in the emotion department and the acting from some of the cast is less than great. But all in all this film does fantastic and is one of the best Comic book films out there. All in all it delivers.
76
Iron Man (2008,  PG-13)
Iron Man
Iron Man was a film nobody believed in but me, my mom(May she rest in peace.), my dad and the rest of m family didn't have faith that Robert Downey Jr. could carry this movie to new heights and make it a smash hit. Well Iron Man was released world wide in theaters on April 14, 2008 and quickly in one week became one of the highest grossing , critical success since Spider-Man and The Dark Knight.

Iron Man is smart, powerful, emotional, funny, dark, complex and all around fun. It's one of the greatest and mos powerful Comic book adaptions to come out in years. This film is mostly driven by special effects and astounding story, plot and acting. It's the very essences of how a comic book film should be made.

Robert Downey Jr.(Who rocks the house and brings it down.) Is nothing short of Brilliant in this, he bring so much more humor style and wit than ever. He is the saving grace of this film and also the maim reason it succeeds so well. Gwyneth Paltrow(Who I didn't like until I saw this.) Is fantastic here as the love interest to Robert Downey Jr., she brings such humanity and heart to the film and is a class act here. Jeff Bridges(Who didn't steal the show but was good.) Is not that great as the bigger and stronger Iron Monger but he gives us a good show and pulls off some really evil and sinister moments in the film. But all in all the cast does fantastic here and really brings much more to the table.

Iron Man Is now a quintessential film and one of the highest grossing and most well made comic9c book movie to hit the screen since The Dark Knight. It's great fun and a wild trip the likes you've never seen. All in all Iron Man is one wild, out of this world trip you'll going to want to take.

The Day After Tomorrow (2004,  PG-13)
The Day After Tomorrow
Roland Emmerich has brought us some amazing films in the last ten years or so, and then he's brought us some not so amazing films as well. He's brought us a giant, radioactive lizard burning New York to the ground(Godzilla-1998), He took us to another world (Stargate-1994). And now with The Day after Tomorrow he gives us some serious bad weather with a scientific and economical message we won't soon forget.

The Day after tomorrow is a great apocalyptic/ Science Fiction thriller that can be hailed as fantastic for it's astounding CGI and it's deep rooted economical message about the threat of Global Warming, but this film has so much more to offer films than just a good message and some spectacular CGI It's got heart, emotion and a great father-Son story all mixed into one well made and mind blowing film.

Dennis Quaid(Who does great here.) Is nothing short of amazing as the distant father and brilliant climatologist who predicts the end of the world and seeks to save his son from the disaster that has been fallen the planet. He's a near-perfect cast and he does great here and shows he's got what it takes. Jake Gyllenhaal( Who is alright here.) Is good as Dennis Quaid's estrange son, but he lags a little in some of the more crucial scenes in the movie and kind of brings it down a notch, but he does tries and I will give him that and he succeeds in making his character viable. Emmy Rossum this film could have done with out, she is all looks and no act. She is nothing but eye candy and a love interest for Gyllenhaal but besides that function her character can be scrapped and is the most forgettable of the film. But none the less the cast tries hard and comes out on top in this intense and powerful film.

A disaster film with a message is always a movie you want in on even if you don't like what there saying it's always a film that you need to be apart of, and this film you definitely it. The Day after Tomorrow is a great and powerful movie with a moving message and at sometimes a very heartfelt story of love, loss, friendship and family. All in all it delivers.

The Negotiator (1998,  R)
The Negotiator
Hostage thrillers are a dime a dozen, just like Mystery thrillers or Erotic thrillers. They all have the same basic plot if you look close enough, but once in a blue moon you get a Hostage thriller that blows your mind in ways you couldn't even imagine and that film just happens to be, The Negotiator.

The Negotiator is a movie that I missed and I don't know how, I's everything you could want in a potboiler thriller. It's taunt, brilliant and complex. In the movie you don't know who is telling the truth and who is lying, It's that complicated and trust me when I say this you won't know who did what and what really happened until the very end. The Negotiator is a film that resonates with the very best of film making It's a high class, High tension wire show that sure to please you if not blow your brains out.

Samuel L. Jackson is in top form in this movie as the framed Maverick hostage negotiator that has made a good living out of saving hostages lives, now he has to take hostages to stay alive. Jackson brings the tension and the power to this film and is perfectly cast in his role. Kevin Spacey is also at the top of his game here as the number 2 top hostage negotiator in the film, Spacey brings the caring nature, the calmness and the methodical thinking to the film. With Spacey and Jackson contrasting themselves fiercely in this movie the tension rises and the power soars until the pot finally boils over.

The Negotiator is a film that you don't really see coming, It's the type of film that if you don't watch carefully you will be completely lost. It's a great suspense thriller and also a great entry in the Hostage thriller genre. In my opinion this film is what Inside Man became later, The Negotiator set the benchmark for all other Hostage films to follow as to date I haven't seen one since Spike Lee's Inside Man that has really enthralled me and captured m undivided attention all the way through. But I do have on request if you do watch this movie. Watch very, very closely because nobody and nothing is what it seems.

The Apartment (1960,  Unrated)

Knowing (2009,  PG-13)
Knowing
The end of the world. No one knows when it will be and no one knows what will happen, but we all know in some way that it's coming. Knowing gives us a very intelligent spin on how the world might end through ideas from the last book of the bible Revelation that talk about the end of the world and the second coming of God. But while it doesn't have a hundred percent take on those ideals it does gives a good Science Fiction film that raises the question, How long do we really have?

Knowing is dark, complex, intelligent, disturbing and at sometimes rather breathtaking. It's a film that you must really, truly watch with an open and clear mind to understand the complex spiritual undertones of this film, they deal with, like I said, the biblical end of the world. Just Hollywood and Alex Proyas' spin on it. I liked this film for allot for reasons not just because it had Nick Cage and an awesome disaster story you could really sink your teeth in, but because it was heartfelt and powerful and it draws that power from the characters and the actors that portray them. It's a great story told with masterful skill and precision to the point that your almost entirely wrapped up in the film and the atmosphere of it.

Nicholas Cage delivers a smart and edgy performance as the professor who's son by chance or fate finds a sheet of paper with numbers on it that predict every global disaster for five decades. Cage gives one of his best and most emotional performances here as the man tasked with trying to stop the end of all life on Earth as we know it. Cage brings allot of heart to this film that without him would have been a normal disaster film with a unique message and I think in my opinion that saves the movie from oblivion. But all in all the cast does very well her and pulls off some great moments in this film and elevate it from average to extraordinary.

Knowing is amazing in it's execution and powerful in it's display of death and hope in the midst of the end of life on Earth. It's a moving film that if you give it a chance it will entertain if not blow your mind. All in all Knowing is one event that you need to be apart of.

Poseidon (2006,  PG-13)
Poseidon
When I first heard about Wolfgang Petersen was re-imagining Paul Gallico's The Poseidon Adventure, let me tell you at first I wasn't too pleased. I thought this was going to be another shallow and brainless Disaster film with amazing visuals and nothing much else to hold it up. Boy was I wrong. What I got was a smart, extremely intense, edgy and highly entertaining film with all it's pieces of the puzzle in the right place and not a single one missing, while I like Wolfgang Petersen(director of In the line of Fire, The Perfect Storm and Troy.) I didn't think he could properly bring such a compelling and thrilling story to the screen but with some luck and ILM to back him up he did it.

what I really liked about Poseidon was that it took a used story and turned it into something more, much more. And that is say something in the movie business where disaster films are a dime a dozen but a good disaster film is a one in a million. And here it is.

Josh Lucas gives off some great energy in this as the gritty, smart and loner hero who has to take charge to lead the small band of survivors to safety. Lucas plays the part with ease and style but while his hero can't measure up to Gene Hackman's he does give the role more grit and heart than what would really need be needed in a film of this caliber. But never the less he gives us a good show for our money. Kurt Russell is not as good here as he has been in the past, but he does have his moments where he really shines above the rest as the second in command to Lucas. But Russell is almost the standout here by his ties as a father in this film, which in some scenes have him making very uneasy choices that are motivated by his duty to his child and there he shines above the rest in almost all his scenes. Emmy Rossum is much better than she was in TDAT, she's not anywhere closer to being great or even better than her previous works but she does do much, much better than she has in the past and that is something to admire. Richard Dreyfuss is not as good here as he was in say.. Jaws(1976) or The American President(1996) but he does great as the kind hearted old man and delivers some good scenes in the film. But none the less the cast holds up very nicely under a poor script and with excellent direction from Petersen they soar.

Wolfgang Petersen's Poseidon is The Towering Inferno of disaster films, It just has water. This film delivers a powerful and moving experience that is common in disaster films but never quite like this, this time around it's more intense and character driven and that makes it one of the best and the brightest to hit the genre in years. All in all Poseidon is one adventure you want to be apart of.

1408 (2007,  PG-13)
1408
Horror like action films and romantic Comedies has fallen prey to the disease that is formula. There hasn't been a full blown, original horror film in a long time. But now I have faith the genre can be saved thanks to a film called, 1408.

1408 is a notch above the regular horror films It doesn't use overt use of gore and blood to tell it's story or to shock and scare you. Instead it use the basic techniques horror films of the 30's. 40's, 60's and early to late 70's used to scare people, psychological tension and terror. 1408 picks at your brain the minute Mike Enslin(John Cusack) steps into the room, it pry's , pokes and prods at your mind like a little kid poking a rat in a cage or a lion toying with it's prey. It's an amazing and truly horrifying evil little terror machine the likes of which has never been seen.

John Cusack delivers an awesome performance as the distraught father and paranormal debunker, he brings allot of power and realism to a film that without him might have failed. Samuel L. Jackson is mind blowing as the believer of the cruse of 1408, Jackson gives off some serious energy and air of mystery in this and the truth of what he wants or even if he's involved. All in all the cast does amazing in this film and really helps make it more eerie and creepy with there great preformances.

1408 is dark, eerie, brilliant, complex and utterly horrifying It's one of the most effective horror film made in the past twenty years. It's something you have to experience or can't truly feel the terror, and trust me you will feel the terror. All in all 1408 is one room you want to spend the night in. That's if you can survive the night.

City of Angels (1998,  PG-13)

2012 (2009,  PG-13)
2012
In Stargate(1994) he took us to a whole other world, In Independence Day(1996) He Invaded the planet like no ones done before, In The Patriot(2000) He showed us the trials and tribulations of The Americans in there fight for freedom and In The Day After Tomorrow he gave us a glimpse of what Global Warming can do to our planet. It's 2009 and Roland Emmerich has created his disaster film masterpiece and that film is called, 2012.

2012 is epic, exciting, smart, heartfelt, dramatic and powerful, It's one of the most potent and sweeping action drama's to hit the screens in years. I haven't been this moved or shocked by a disaster film since I saw The Poseidon Adventure(1974) and The War of the Worlds(2005).

The story is centered around an academic researcher and his family as they try and out run the end of the world as predicted by the ancient Mayan calender which states the world will end on 12-21-2012(Which will never happen.) It starts out like all disaster films setting up events and scientists telling you there is nothing to worry about and wigged out people telling you that there lying and the world is coming to an end. Then you meet the hero of your story, in this case John Cusack and you get to see his troubles and find out some things about him, and then the the Earth starts to shake and the Global destruction begins and Cusack and his family are on the run from the danger that seeks to destroy them.

Sounds pretty clique, huh? Well truthfully it's not, because once the Earth starts a go-in' the drama and power starts a flow-in'. It's one of the most satisfying films of the year and delivers on it's promise to shock and wow, and boy does it ever.

John Cusack delivers an awesome performance as the father and hero of the story, Cusack gives off a great sense of loyalty and selflessness in this film which is rare to see him do seeing as he has never played a part quite like this. Amanda Peet is great as Cusack's ex in this film, she plays the part of the concerned ex and mother very well and gives much emotion to the role than she has done in the past. Chiwetel Ejiofor does great here as the sympathetic and tough scientific adviser to the President. He brings more power to the film and adds more to the dramatic punch the films has. Oliver Platt is nothing short of brilliant as the self-absorbed and crass as the President's Chief of Staff. He is the villain of the film and makes a rare role out of it (seeing as in all disaster films nature is the enemy.) Platt is cunning ,ruthless and smart he adds to the energy and flare of the film and by the end you'll hate his guts. But all in all the cast delivers knockout performances in this film and really raise the bar for this genre.

2012 is a film you have to go into with an open mind so you can fully comprehended the statement it is trying to make. It's one of those film that when you walk out it leaves you gasping for air and also leaves you thinking about how much we don't respect life sometimes. It's a good film, with a powerful message and a great story that resonates with the heart and soul. All in all 2012 delivers.

Stargate (1994,  PG-13)
Stargate
The Unknown is something moviegoers have been fascinated with for decades, I know I am. It's something that makes you just wonder what is out there and what they want. Roland Emmerich's Stargate does just that, it takes you on a wild and crazy ride to another galaxy and throws you headlong into the movie that started the phenomenon.

Stargate is an epic adventure set in our time but it has one thing it has a giant ring that transport you to another world much similar to ours and there lies the basis for this Sci-Fi action Drama centered around two very different men who step through the threshold of the mysterious Stargate to another world of unparalleled adventure. Stargate was and still is the benchmark film that started the phenomenon, it brought a whole new prospective to Sci-Fi like never before.

Kurt Russell is great as the hardened Col. Jack O'Neil. He brings a subtle and very human quality to a stone cold character, Russell brings the power and strength to this film and is undeniable one of the most memorable. James Spader brings the brains and the heart to the film, Spader's performance is crucial to the film together him and Russell contrast each other nicely and play off each other well and bring this film to great standards. But all in all the cast does great here and help make this one of the best Sci-Fi adventures of all time.

Stargate is as powerful as it is smart and mysterious, it's a film that you have to see to believe. It's a fantastic ride that has amazing visual effects, great acting, an original story that is up there with the best. All in all Stragate is one gateway you'll want to step through.

Smokin' Aces (2007,  R)
Smokin' Aces
Movies like this are, like I've said many times before, a dime a dozen but once in a great while you get a rare coin in the bunch of old dull ones, and Smokin' Aces is that rare coin. It's slick, stylish, brutal, funny at times, dark , witty and smart It's got the making of a great action thriller and it's not afraid to show it.

Smokin' Aces is a brash action film that is straight out of the mind of Qunetin Tarantino, sadly he's not directing, but that's okay because this film is kind of a homage to his work and will please any fan of Tarantino or fans of action films alike. But ti also has it's downsides. Smokin' Aces at some points in the film it relies to heavily on the action and that takes away from the good conspiracy story and air of mystery it has buried underneath it all. But all in all Smokin' Aces is an awesome thriller with spectacular action and a jaw dropping twist that you won't see coming.

Jeremy Piven does great here as the man everybody wants to kill, Piven puts all his comedic and dramatic talent into the role of a strung out, douche bag magical who's at the ends. And he plays it better than anything I've seen him do before/ Ryan Reynolds is good as the rookie FBI agent assigned to protect Buddy Israel(Piven), he's got the smarts and the attitude to play the part and he pulls it off nicely but falls short in some places when he's needed the most. Ray liotta(Who I don't like much as an actor.) is not as good here as he was in John Q Or Identity but holds up well. The cast is great and they help move this film up past the regular actioneer standards.

Smokin' Aces is just like the title suggest, this film is on fire and the fire won't die down till the bodies stop dropping credits roll. It's a good action thriller with high class qualities and enough action, jokes, style and plot twist to satisfy you, it may not be the most original action film but ti sure is different in it's own special way. All in all it's one hit you 'll want in on.

Monkeybone (2001,  PG-13)
Monkeybone
When Henry Selick created a Nightmare before Christmas it was the start of a new era in stop motion animation. While Selick has always stayed in the world of stop motion animation he has given us a great and wonderful time with that, James and the giant peach was phenomenal and now in 2001 he created a film that blends perfectly live action with the stop motion animation of his design. And this film so happens to be called, Monkeybone.

Monkeybone is smart, charming, unrelentingly funny and visually breathtaking it's a fantasy adventure with such high class and such great comedic timing that it just leaps out at you and sucks you deep, deep into the world of Henry Selick and his wild, dark and zany creatures. What I loved about this film is how Fraser's character started out meek and dull and slowly but surly turned into the hero and real man you know he is on the inside. It's a great face the music type of story and a great fantasy adventure that is just too good and just too eye catching to resist.

Brendan Fraser gives one of his best comedic performances here as comic strip scribe and creator of Monkeybone Stu Miley. Fraser's performance is key to the film and it sometimes calls for him to go above and beyond the call of duty for his role. But never the less Fraser pulls it off nicely and helps make this comedic adventure worthy watching. Bridget Fonda is alright as the doting and caring girlfriend Julie, while not as strong as Fraser and not as serious as she could have been Fonda does alright with her part and is not a thorn in this films side. John Turturro is fantastically funny and witty as the popular but treacherous comic strip character, Monkeybone. Turturro breaks out all his comedic skills and brings some seriously huge laughs and style to this film as the voice of the mischievous little monkey. But all in all the cast holds up great and brings some serious charm laughs to an otherwise unique and original picture.

Monkeybone is cool as it is slick and while not as popular as it should be or as praised but Henry Selick's Monkeybone is an original and visually striking motion picture that I know if your forgiving and open up to this world Monkeybone will not disappoint. All in all Monkeybone is one wild and zany trip you really want to take.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991,  R)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
While Terminator set up the beginning of John Connor and created a new era in FX and unbrash action and suspense this no holds bar sequel Improves on the first and pushes the special effects further than ever for it's day. Terminator 2: Judgment Day is smart, taunt, stylish, dark and oh so much fun. It's the perfect action sequel and one of the best films of the '90s.

James Cameron's brilliant sequel has everything and more that made the first great and this one even greater. What T-2: Judgment Day does is extend further the story of the prophesied, "Judgment Day and continues the story of John Connor and this time around The Terminator is not his enemy but his protector and that shifts the story from Machine VS. Human to Machine VS. Machine and Human. And that is amazing to see and watch unfold. T-2 while not as good as the first is, but is an amazing step up in story, action and in special effects and is a worthy sequel and entry in the Terminator franchise.

Arnold Schwarzenegger delivers another great performance as the time traveling terminator his performance is much less robotic than the first and more human which contributes highly to this films appeal and moral structure. Linda Hamilton is more strung out and nutty than I've ever seen her before and she helps bring more power and emotion to this film. Edward Furlong is amazing as the young, rebellious John Connor Furlong brings the tension and more heart to the picture and humanizes an otherwise mechanical film. But all in all the cast does amazing under the great direction of James Cameron and his amazing script, with that they help make this a must see for fans of the first and for fans of Sci-Fi as well.

T-2 is powerful in it's execution and emotional in it's story, it's an amazingly well crafted film with such heart and depth that it, much like the first, jumps out and grabs you when you least expect it. All in all T-2 is a welcome addition to the franchise and a major step up from the original, essentially it's the perfect action/ Sci-Fi film.

The Mummy (1999,  PG-13)
The Mummy
While I have not seen the 1932 Universal original production starring Boris Karlof I did, however enjoy and revel in this 1999 Stephen Sommers re-imaging of the classic horror machine. While having a unique story for it's time and amazing special effects "The Mummy" is much more, it's an extremely well thought out film and a highly entertaining Adventure epic that is right up there with Indiana Jones.

Stephen Sommer's "The Mummy" is smart, fast paced, hilarious at times, touching at others and powerful in it's sweeping and dynamic story and atmosphere. But this film really benefits from it's strong lead performances from Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz who help elevate this film from average to great and really up the appeal and power of this film. But the real draw comes from the adventure and the excitement that is released in small capsules that in certain areas burst open and blow you away. But all in all this film is wild and crazy fun that is more well made than it should, and allot better acted and scripted than it should but you get what you want and more and in the end you won't be disappointed.

Brendan Fraser rocks as the tough but kind heartened adventurer Rick O'Connell, his performance is key to keeping this film afloat and believable if someone else was cast I don't think it would have worked out as well seeing as the humor infused with the terror and thrills and Fraser is the only one who I can see pulling this off to the point that you don't see the actor but the character he plays. Rachel Weisz is amazing as the smart and beautiful Evelyn Carnahan she really brings the charm, the heart and the style., she is also a great focal point in this film and helps bring a human zing quality to the picture. But all in all the cast does amazing in this film and under the direction of Stephen Sommers they succeed.

"The Mummy" is what you call outrageously entertaining
