About Me
I am a self proclaimed film snob. It's the only part of my life where I won't apologize for being a stubborn & picky bitch. I have good taste & I'm proud of it. Please don't ask me to waste my time watching a movie that contributes nothing to my life. I want a memorable & unique experience every time I view a film.
Rules that I live by are as follows...1)I will not watch anything that isn't deemed good enough to get any review; whether it be good or bad.2)If the main cast consists of no names, models that can't act, dancers that can't act, musicians that can't act, or pretty boys and girls that call themselves actors but basically recite lines like an automated voicemail system...I won't see it.3)If the synopsis of the film can be described in three sentences or less, forget it.
My main pet peeves include... Cliche' writing, predictable outcomes, uninspired acting, & a lack of continuity between shots & scenes.
One Principle I agree with... Comedy is more challenging than drama. I can't recall too many specific examples of a drama being offensive in what it was trying to achieve, but I can recall too many comedies that were just insulting to watch. The same questions constantly run through my head while watching these bad comedies. "Is that supposed to be funny? What kind of jackass actually finds this sort of thing amusing? Have we stooped so low as a society that we'll laugh at shit that a 2 year old could write? Hollywood is making money off of our gullible stupidity."
One Principle I wish would be adopted... If you're doing a fantasy style film, there has to be a constant, unflinching set of rules that go with the fantasy land. Most fantasy films do abide by this concept already, (Star Wars, The Golden Compass, Lord of the Rings), but some fantasy collections like to add new rules or bend old ones whenever it's necessary. This is a huge reason why I've never gotten into Harry Potter. For all the guidelines that remain constant in the wizard vs. real world, there are always additions or exceptions to the rules with each installment. Sorry to you Harry Potter lovers out there. I'm not saying the books and films aren't enetertaining, but in my opinion they just aren't AS good as many people make them out to be.
