About Me
"You know what's wrong with you, Miss Whoever-you-are? You're chicken, you've got no guts. You're afraid to stick out your chin and say, "Okay, life's a fact, people do fall in love, people do belong to each other, because that's the only chance anybody's got for real happiness." You call yourself a free spirit, a "wild thing," and you're terrified somebody's gonna stick you in a cage. Well baby, you're already in that cage. You built it yourself. And it's not bounded in the west by Tulip, Texas, or in the east by Somali-land. It's wherever you go. Because no matter where you run, you just end up running into yourself."

I laughed at a few things but seemed like I had already seen this before. Watch it in dvd when there's nothing else to watch and you just want to laugh a bit.

"When a beautiful young woman is selected to serve as concubine to an affluent man, she sadly accepts -- knowing that she has no other alternative to survive financially. Her fate, however, turns from bad to worse when her master's other wives, all older and not as attractive, callously alienate the newcomer due to their sexual jealousy."

I thought it was very interesting. Watching the traditions and the fights between the wives was, well, captivating. Really, worth a watch.

A nice loooooong musical.
Not entertaining enough to not feel the hours go by, although Barbara Streisand is always great.
She's probably the only reason why this movie would be worth watching. Other than that...you wont be missing much.

Not your typical movie but it's still great. It consists of 18 different stories or segments, all with different characters that sorta come together at the end. It you just want a normal movie with one set of characters and a story that goes on for two hours this is not for you but if you don't mind watching more that one storyline you will love this one. Each story is great and unique on it's own and they're all about different kinds of love. Don't miss it.

This was a great musical. I have to say I liked the first half more, where everything was more normal and realistic. The second half gets more fantastical and while it's fun to watch, I can't say I liked that more but it sure was entertaining. If you like musicals, don't miss it. It has some great music! (duh!) :p

This is simply a very funny movie. There are no two ways about it.
Apatow lovers will adore it and those newly initiated will still find some gut-busting laughs.
Segel plays the heartbroken Peter who, after having been unceremoniously dumped by his celeb girlfriend, tries to escape his sorrows by vacationing in Hawaii.
The coincidences, gaffs, and laughs here are abundant and once again we are treated to the no holds barred humor that is pervasive in the Apatow films. Much has been said about seeing Segel's penis a couple of times which is a rarity in most mainstream comedy (full-frontal male nudity), but Apatow really just does not seem to care about convention. He allows his characters to be organic in how they speak and act and he throws so many bones to faithful viewers (Carla Gallo from "Undeclared" and many other Apatow movies being just one).
Segel's performance was great because it was simply there and in no way contrived. Mila Kunis was brilliant and stunningly beautful as well as Kristen Bell and Paul Rudd. Russell Brand was simply hysterical as the completely unabashed, uncensored hedonist Goth boy.
This movie was a lot of fun to watch and really had some moments that put it over the top (look for Jack McBrayer from "30 Rock" simply playing a more psychotic, sexually confused uncensored version of Kenneth...hilarious. He has one line that put me right over the edge laughing).
Watch the unrated version when you get a chance and chances are you will have a great time.

Normally I'd be the last person who wanted to see ANOTHER movie about 9/11, mostly because I think movies like United 93 and World Trade Center, while they some good points, deep down (or sometimes just under the surface) are all about exploitation.

WTC VIEW is different. It's all about one man (Michael Urie, Mark from Ugly Betty) trying to find a roomate in the days and weeks after 9/11. The whole film takes place within his apartment, and starts AFTER 9/11. You never see The World Trade Center, or scenes of the aftermatgh, etc.

It's all about him coming to terms with what he experienced and his loss.

And you won;t be dissapointed by the ending.

Not at all original, but pretty good if you just want to switch your brain off and coast, which isn't so bad sometimes.

I do wonder why actors of a certain calibre would do this kind of movie, but who knows? Maybe they are trying to widen their fanbase.

Probably I might inflate my rating because I enjoyed it.

Random gripes tho, I can't resisst: OK, some guys look hot with a mustache, but Jay Mohr looked like a straight up douche. I wonder if that was purposeful... And does anyone else find Forrest Whitaker's fucked up eyelid to be majorly distracting?? Maybe I just have ADD ;)

Starts off slow, but picks up steam in a hurry.

This is the kind of film that is truly horrifying because not only could it happen, it in fact did happen.

Catherine Kenner and Ellen Page give inspired performances, but it's the real story that is the star of this film.

Hands down, this is one of the best all around movies I have ever seen. I understand from Oscars stand-point that my previous statement is a joke, but c'mon.... I saw this 4 times in theaters because it absolutely blew me away. Maybe it's because I had no expectations for it going into it

This film has a very Quentin Tarantino-esque feel to it. It has everything: guns, girls, action, short and witty comedy, good dialog, mobsters, gangsters, hitmen, mystery, suspense, twists, Jewish people, EVERYTHING!

Great performances from Morgan Freeman, Bruce Willis, and Ben Kinsley... I'm not a fan of Josh Hartnett or Lucy Liu, but they both put in pretty good performances. Liu's spunky attitude was contagious and cute to watch.

There's not much I can say about the plot without giving anything away. But do yourself a favor and watch it. A 2nd viewing might be necessary. Every time I watch it (which has been over 10 times now) I swear I find out something new.

This is a very slick, cool, and edgy film with great quotes and tons of great action..... A future cult classic... A MUST SEE!

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2) Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2)
    4.0 Stars by Craig
    Directed by: Guillermo Del Toro.
Starring: Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones, Seth MacFarlane, Luke Goss.

<<" You must remain fock-yoosed at all times!"..."Fock-yoosed? You know, with that accent, I wouldn't use that word." >>

The story continues soon after the first. The bureau continue to stay under the radar while saving the world every way that they can, but Hellboy starts to feel the pressure of being secluded and different from the world and must face the problems of it all while a mythical world starts a war against the humans and the bureau must stop them before the Golden Army rises.

Del Toro certainly had the strain of competing with the step up in quality of comic book films coming out in the last few years that easily topped his first Hellboy film, so no doubt the pressure was on him this time around...and he does not disappoint as expected, but he has also created something leagues above the first.

What I always felt a bit iffy about with the first one was actually two relatively big points in film...dialogue and story. The characters reigned fine and definitely set up a nice starting gate (aside from the unnecessary young lead character and him being the main focus), but everything felt a little too stale for my liking and the film never jumped beyond its visual brilliance...thats different here. The story is easily more acceptable here but isn't the greatness one would hope for, but what really steps up underneath it all is the characters and especially the dialogue. Richer and easier to like and blend into, the characters each carry a strong center that really is the best thing you can do with a film and with wittier, stronger dialogue, anyone can forget a slightly disappointing plot.

But alongside these main characters that shine, we have an array of sub characters that each have there own little qualities that are no doubt fascinating to watch and when a lot of them are the mythical creatures visioned by the origins of the comic book and Del Toro's brilliant mind, its down to how Del Toro brings it to screen...do you really need to ask if he succeeded or not? The man is simply a visionary and easily the greatest in modern cinema. Matched with some exquisite set design and physical creature effects, his brilliant mind is stamped on every single frame with every single character and object, it really is his best work outside of Pan's Labyrinth and he has easily shown us by now that he is the right man for The Hobbit.

The performances are great, as expected. Ron Perlman is...well Hellboy. We all knew that from the first film. He walks, talks and breathes Hellboy, he's the comic book characters essence in human form and continues to show that here. Selma Blair has her moments to shine but is also balanced with some mediocre delivery, she isn't exactly the greatest actress of this age but her great charisma pulls her through. Doug Jones continues to show he can work as an actor rather then a man behind many masks and Seth MacFarlane, the genius, really is a welcome addition to this world and adds brilliant wit to his character.

Simply put, Hellboy 2 is leaps and bounds above its predecessor. Richer characters, better dialogue, brilliantly and masterfully directed by Guillermo Del Toro and nicely performed by the entire cast. All those points are the mains to make a great film and if it does them well, its obvious that it served its purpose, in this case...brilliantly.

I agree with the comment of a friend on here that, while still good, this documentary is not as good as The Celluloid Closet, Its scope is not as big and it doesn;t go into as much detail. I got the sense that this documentary was made moreso in an effort to promote films and less to educate the LGBT community.

That being said, it was still good and reminded me of a lot of films I still need to see. And the interview snippets were good.

OK....No big words, this movie is "a Must-See",whether you're a Horror fan or monster fan,Shaky camera lover or You just wanted to see a Movie with a different taste.

The Movie opens with some TV stuffs & some Government property approvals like it had been viewed by some Authorities. Then it continues the whole movie with a hand-held video footage, via from the view of a group of New Yorkers.
Even it's screen ratio is a ratio that said a goodbye to Hollywood Movies a long time ago.& it does worked out beautifully.

So what is the monster?,a Whale?,an Old schooled Godzilla?,A video game based creature?No....this one is invented by J.J Abrams & his team.Let me call it the cloverfield monster as it is still unnamed. The monster is super big, angry, ruthless, loud, strong & can say pretty fast for his size. It's hands are more like the extra legs which are extending from its body, plus the super big mouth with gruesome teeth. It also drops lots of spider-like mini creatures which are also fast & furious.Their bites can even cause some unknown infections, which the story didn't show very much.

    Photobucket

Unlike "The Blair Witch Project",this movie is shown exactly from a single view.My ears were bleeding in the scenes like the soldiers shooting down the Monster in the middle of the streets. Some dudes even left the cinema hall because of those super shaky cameras.Unfortunately, this is kind of monster movie I have been waiting for years,So it was kinda thrill ride for me."The Fake Monster Documentary" I must say.

This movie is not only about a monster attacking NYC,it also includes a tragic Love story between Rob Hawkins & Beth McIntyre, two of the main characters. They uses some cut-offs & flashbacks, which looks stylish & beautiful. They ended up under the bridge, screaming "I Love You" for a couple times. The story seems quite fast after the death scene of Hud,the main camera holder of the Movie. They must extend about 15 or 20 minutes more to give us the maximum satisfaction.

Extra Props must be given to the End Credits. They are the best I've seen since last year's Michael Clayton.A bass tone become louder & louder & then mixed with lots of string instruments. That music theme is the one & the only music in this movie & it's quite thrilling.So....there you go Director Matt Reeves,a big boost for you.
Cloverfield madness was no more on the internet, but it is nevertheless... one of the Best Monster Movies ever made.

The Towering Inferno The Towering Inferno
    5.0 Stars by Jack
Hot off the heels of the success of "The Poseidon Adventure," producer Irwin Allen chose to follow up that seaworthy disaster epic with yet another excursion in peril: "The Towering Inferno", which went on to become an even bigger box office success than its predecessor, and remains to this day one of the most suspenseful and potent thrillers ever to come from a Hollywood studio. Much like the circumstances surrounding the Titanic disaster, those which enshroud the sudden and deadly fire that engulfs the newly-built Glass Tower in San Francisco stem from one thing: human arrogance. The building's owner (William Holden) is convinced that nothing can bring his structure to its knees, despite the knowledge that his son-in-law (Richard Chamberlain) was behind the decision to use faulty electrical wiring. Even with the warnings of the tower's chief architect (Paul Newman), who takes every opportunity to advise against holding off the dedication ceremony until a later date, the gala still goes on as planned, resulting in the entrapment of hundreds of people 135 stories up, with the flames chewing up their precious little time for a rescue effort.

Running at a broad two-and-a-half hours, John Guillerman's technically brilliant ode to the hubris of mankind is a spectacle that, like smoke, literally takes one's breath away with a stunning array of tightly-knit action sequences marked by escalating tension and unbearable suspense. Even when compared to today's more modern methods of special effects wizardry, the visuals that unfold within "The Towering Inferno" still manage to strike a nerve with full vigor. A vast collection of characters played by an ensemble cast to die for leaves room for speculation about who will and won't make it through the night; some deaths will surprise you, as will some of the survivals. Although there are times when character development seems a bit scant, the sheer intensity of it all more than makes up for any lapses we may come across. And a line found at the end of the film still manages to retain resonance in this post-September 11th nation of ours: looking up at the smoldering ruins of the tower, Steve McQueen's fire chief remarks, "One of these days, they're going to kill 10,000 in one of these firetraps." If only we knew now what he knew then.

The Philadelphia Story The Philadelphia Story
    4.5 Stars by Alexander
''The time to make up your mind about people is never.''

When a rich woman's ex-husband and a tabloid-type reporter turn up just before her planned remarriage, she begins to learn the truth about herself.

    Cary Grant: C.K. Dexter Haven

    Katharine Hepburn: Tracy Lord

    James Stewart: Macaulay Connor

Philadelphia Story is a hilarious comedy, starring Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, and James Stewart. With that cast, along with a great script and inspired direction, make this movie a treat to watch.
The three stars are obviously the Story at work here, but minor characters also play an influential part. To the extent in which the older adult members of Hepburn's family have no clue as to what is transpiring, while the child clearly does, is most amusing. It ought to be said that Philadelphia Story is far from all that humourous. The sense of humour is more of the clever and fleeting kind of variation. Most of it arises either from Grant's splendid persona, with his wry, charismatic tones, or Hepburn's flighty, beguiling, enchanting mannerisms. I would say that Grant is to a degree under used in his role, as there are very large stretches of the picture where he is not on screen. Stewart is however excellent, playing a sensitive, artistic type who understandably is somewhat taken by Hepburn's Tracy Lord. All three stars are much in their element and they bask in it's glory, with accents as remembered by all, and a fitting social setting.

As has been said by some other film scribe, "a strong case is being made as to the sheer irresistibility of the film's female star". Katharine Hepburn is shown at her most statuesque and in a beautiful disposition. Her character has an impressive array of fine lines to deliver also, and is treated with dignity and understanding by the effective script. It is in some ways a voyage of self discovery for Hepburn's Miss Lord. Ranging from a rejection of her anointed goddess status, a rejection of marriage for mere hierarchical gain and a deeper understanding of the meaning of love.

The film's about-face ending is quite charming really, mixing the conservative with the progressive. Conservative in that marriage is seen to have to take place, and in the characters returning to earlier relationships. It could indeed be argued that not enough had been made of Stewart's relations with Ruth Hussey's character. Progressive it could be said, in that events have been very quickly turned upside down, and love over society is championed. Also, perhaps most tellingly, the drunken indiscretion of Hepburn is not just forgiven, but seen as part of her self-discovery. This film in its treatment of a liberated woman such as Hepburn, must be praised for its sensitivity and liberal understanding. All too often, Hollywood allowed the reactionary and the puritanically conservative to lazily dominate its films.

We are presented with an upper-middle class milieu, with contrasts provided by Grant's hard-bitten aristocratic dandy and John Howard's dullard "man of the people" politician. There is nothing staggering about the film's assertion that the upper classes can be perfectly charming and noble, whilst those of the lower classes, like Howard, can be lacking charm and appear materialistic. It seems merely to be making a point of its very balance, and is almost a fig leaf to those who would have expected a simplistic socialist line.

Need it be mentioned that Cukor's direction is excellent? Making an art form of the unobtrusive, he lets the camera just take in the performances and the script, without distraction. He captures Hepburn in a radiant and sensitive light that I suppose slightly overshadows the male leads. There are artistic shots at times, that evoke occasional counterpoint to the usual images of the starts. One lingering shot of the precocious child watching from out of her window the night's events, is a good example of this working to great effect. An effect of establishing a wider, but still near-motionless canvass to the story.

Philadelphia Story is cleverly and entertainingly written, and delightfully well acted by all involved. It's hard to imagine anyone finding it dull or beneath them, but apparently some people can find anything beneath them. Indeed their defeat. If you haven't seen this, please do. If you haven't seen it in a while, give it another viewing. You won't be disappointed. It's standards and assumptions are a bit dated, but the humour, wit, and heart are certainly not.
An old Classic still retains it's magical qualities.

Hepburn, Stewart & Grant push this Philadelphia Story into luscious realms and beyond.

    27 Dresses 27 Dresses
    4.0 Stars by Alexander
''Love is patient, love is kind, love is slowly going out of your mind''

After serving as a bridesmaid 27 times, a young woman wrestles with the idea of standing by her sister's side as her sibling marries the man she's secretly in love with.

    Katherine Heigl: Jane

27 Dresses sees Katherine Heigl plays Jane, a woman who just loves going to weddings, being a bridesmaid for her friends and in most instances being the person to go to when it comes to making wedding arrangements. We find out quickly that Jane's fascination and penchant for helping with weddings came about soon after her mother died when as a very young child she helped her sister find a bathroom, fix her hair, and used a bow in her sister's hair to repair the bride's wedding dress. When we catch up with Jane as an adult, it turns out that she is a bridesmaid at two different weddings on the same night, requiring her to hire a taxi for the evening and to shuttle back and forth between the two receptions changing in and out of the different bridesmaid dresses while riding in the back seat.

27 Dresses presents many dilemmas and interesting scenarios, not to mention burning questions that need answering like will George and Tess get married? Or will George realize that Jane is the girl for him? Will Kevin be the one to actually fall for Tess? Or does he only have eyes for Jane? Will Kevin write the story about Jane's 27 appearances as a bridesmaid? And will it be published about the time his cynicism might be turning to love? Will George discover that Tess isn't all she is cracked up to be and turn to Jane for comfort? Will Jane finally tire of being a bridesmaid and wedding planner all rolled into one? There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that you'll be able to answer all of those above questions by the time 27 Dresses has completed about a fourth of its 107 minutes of running time. But chances are it won't matter to you one bit that the film is so obviously predictable, just as most of the films in the romance genre usually are. You'll enjoy it anyway thanks to another strong performance by Katherine Heigl.

It's one thing to star in a film of this sort and to get a few laughs with some well written snappy dialog, but Heigl manages to go beyond that. She has this wonderful ability to draw the audience into her character. You can readily identify with her, laugh with her, cry for her, be embarrassed for her, and to feel as sad and lonely as she seems to be in the early part of this movie. We cheer her when she finally does take a stance, but we feel her remorse for having done so when it backfires to some extent. There are only a handful of actresses who can manage all of that, and do it all in one film.

The supporting cast in this film aren't exactly bad either. Malin Akerman does a great job of making Tess the evil obnoxious sister that you'll love to hate. James Marsden manages to somehow make his character believable as someone who is suppose to be a jerk on the outside, but yet gives indications that there is more to Kevin than meets the eye. But best of the supporting players is Judy Greer as Jane's best friend Casey. She has at least three of the films funniest including doing her best to literally knock some sense into Jane at one point.

The defining aspect to 27 Dresses is that most romantic comedies are on a predictable wave length. They are only successful when they have a good but novel strain of topic to make topic interesting and when the script has enough witty dialogue and is able to touch your heart it makes it worth our while. (Got to watch that Bar Scene again, Benny and the jets) But most importantly, the actors have to make you care about them and their romantic dilemma, and to feel the same ranges of emotions that they are feeling on the screen. And thanks in large doses to another fine performance by Katherine Heigl, 27 dresses certainly succeeds and shines.
I'm sure there is 27 reasons to see this, beginning with the inevitable ability to laugh and glow inside it had upon me.

Katherine Heigl is beautiful as always, completely astounding in her role.

A feel good Romance, a chick Flick and a heart warming Comedy all rolled into one.
