Far and away the best movie experience i've had all year (despite not getting the Watchmen trailer before hand)

Nolan takes Batman and the superhero genre to a whole new level here. part what you'd expect, part crime saga, but all together something very new and exciting.

Gone is the utter darkness of begins (in fact i think it's pretty much been erased from my memory after this, just remember the joker card ending) and here is a beleivable real world Batman.

Nolan sells all of this with utter conviction, never trying to force you take to it all in, but merely presenting the facts. There is a man who dresses like a bat that a city is aware of. A guy turns up dressed as a clown and wages terror. The city is in trouble. Simple. And this is the movies main sucess. There's no showboating, there's no over hype, there is simply fine filmaking, telling a solid straight forward tale that deals with the characters perfectly and is rewarding as well as entertaining. Seriously this movie makes Iron Man look like a computer game or carton network show in comparison. This is genuinly a benchmark in superhero storytelling.

I could join the ranks of people hyping Ledger or Eckhart or hell, anyone involved, but by now it's a given. Everyone bought there A game to the movie and you feel it in every scene. It's actually hard to quantify just how good this is after just one viewing and i count the days till the Blu Ray hits my player.

Highlights for me were the joker, all of gordon's scenes, any scene with Bat's and Joker together, those conversations were perfection, anything with the tumbler (though the bat pod had me worrying for Bat's cape all the time...careful there bat's) Hell all of it was a highlight really. From the opening bank robbery to the dark as hell ending, this is Batman stepping into real movie history, stepping out of genre filmaking into REAL filmmaking. Of coure it systimatically nulls all the other superhero movies that came before it, but hey, now they'll all have to step up.

thank god this came at the end of the summer, because if it came at the start a lot of te fun i had with the other heroes could very wel have fallen flat!

I can't wait to see this Batstard again!

(oh and the whole breaking his rule thing...didn't he sort of kill raj al ghul at the end of begins...he COULD have saved him. Ahh well i always hated that mis-step in begins anyhoo, and now i can just forget about it.

Lucky you has to be the most medicore watch i've watched in recent memory. It's a massive underuse of it's talent, from Director down to cast and despite there being noting inheriantly wrong with it as a movie, it just trundles along at such a laid back and unegaging pace with some seriously sleepy dialogue, that it just doesn't hold up.

Bana is as usual very likable, Duvall does his usual reliable old man role and drew is cute (if not entirly pointless and unexplored). There's a pretty sweet cameo by Downey Jr here as well, but what it was for exactly i don't have one single clue, it's such an add on after thought it's bizarre.

Lucky you sort of reminded me of theose middle of the road 70's movies where nobody does anything badly, it's all just a little auto pilot. It's got nothing to say outside of it's super obvious plot and if you're expecting anything even midly diffrent or exciting here, you'll be very disapointted.

LANDO'S NOT A SYSTEM, HE'S A MAN!........................................................... It's a hard, always changing call at the moment, but EMPIRE is still the best of the bunch. It used to be because it's the darkest, most left open of the Trilogy, with everything you knew blow apart by the empire, but with the new movies changing alot of the perceptions around i'd say it's still the best because it has elements of all the best parts of the other 5 movies. It has the forboding darkness of SITH, the dramtic weight of JEDI, the action of CLONES, the sith coolness of MENACE, and the character of NEW HOPE, but beyond that it takes all of these elements and provideS a movie that never fails to WOW the shIt out of ya! (oh and BOBA FETT!) Empire brings you to the point in the SAGA where you begin to reassess how it's all going to pan out? you now understand VADER's motivation toward palpatine and Luke's "NEW HOPE for anakin. Luke becomes part of the mythology of the Jedi and shows Yoda what the ultimate jedi SHOULD be and essentially becomes self reliant and Han just kicks serious ass in this one! Now the movies are 6 and not 3 Empire has more weight that ever, now you know what makes anakin tick, Episode 5 becomes the movie that makes you begin to see how the SAGA comes full circle and add's more drama to JEDI. ............................................................... "..AND SO IT IS"................................................. What a way to go out! EVERYTHING about Episode 3 is PERFECT. To start with it has hands down the greatest opening sequence of ALL TIME, thos eships could twirl for hours, it's amazing!. Hayden deleivers a performance of legend as we see Anakin fall to the dark side. We finally see how Palpatine uses his control and the reveal of how Anakin decends was worth the year s of discussion. Ewan also provide the perfect emotional punch to the faliure obi-wan feels and it makes you feel even more for the obi wan we know in Episodes 4-6. Seeing Palpatine in Evil's purest form is absolute class as well and order 66 is like having a punch to the stomach. So beautifully played out and with some of the best set pieces in the SAGA so for .................................. Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi 3. Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi PG 5.0 Stars
"YOUR OVER-CONFIDENCE IS YOUR WEAKNESS" ............................................................ JEDI just rocks - plain and simple. Luke becomes the best character of the SAGA with the black costume and the Green saber. His entrance in this movie is insanly cool and it adds so much weight to the notion he could go SITH like his father. The last 40 minutes is just plain amazing with the space battle screaming outside the death star, and the final VADER/LUKE duel in full effect with ol' Palpatine cackilin on the side lines and to top that off the endor battle with the ewoks is great fun too! A great ending to the SAGA, even is the actual score at the end needs a little more oomph, but the actual events are spot on. ................................................................ Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones 4. Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones PG 5.0 Stars
"I'M TAKING HIM NOW!"............................................ Attack of the clones is awesome. Our introduction to an older anakin skywalker proves to be a great one. Hayden is a brilliant skywalker and his ability to play alot of the brooding and conflicting thoughts he has under the surface is spot on. I find this Wars movie is a little different to the rest in how it's paced and structured - it's not breaking the star wars boundaries or anything - but it's a lot more action based and it kicks ass because of it. The closing scene from the geonasian arena up until the wedding is classic action, classic duels and basically classic STAR WARS, yoda's 1st sabre light up has never and will NEVER be anything less than ultimate cool and the introduction of the troopers just reminds you how much you loved the troopers as a kid. TROOPERS KICK ASS! Natlaie portman is great as padme in this one- loads of fun to be had with her in the areana and ewan just takes another step to becoming more like the obi wan we know and provide my favorite obi wan moment (when he takes out the ackerlay- WHAT A DUDE!). Dooku hits hard and become the most intriging sith apprentice yet and we get to meet dexta jetster and poggle the lesser! who could ask for anything more! ............................................ Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 5. Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace PG 5.0 Stars
"LOSS OF COMMUNICATION CAN MEAN ONLY ONE THING....INVASION" ......................................................... I don't get peoples overall dismissal of the phantom menace AT ALL. YES I'm a Star wars fan, YES i'm one of these rare breed that acknowledge all 6 movies as a complete set and don't feel the need to end the sentence "i like the star wars movies" with the, what seems compulsory "but only the 1st 3" I DIG MENACE, IT KICKS ASS and here's why. I think Menace shows the star wars universe when it was just about perfect in regards to the overall story. the universe was releativly at peace and there was no issues. The jedi, though kinda diffrent to how we all saw the jedi's as children, basically they were pretty redundant and there greatness is kind of a myth rather than a fact. Then enters the "PHANTOM MENACE" The key to taking this normal set up and turning it into a star wars movie and the whole movie becomes how his evil deeds are slowly bleeding into galaxy and how it effects it all. Qui gonn and obi wan are great in this, the 1st time you see them do a jedi's work is still incredible. The skills with the sabre's and taking out the droids on the trade federation ship is just epic. The destroyer droids, the lightsabers, qui gonn whacking one through a door, just insanly exciting stuff! The new worlds we get to see, the new characters, i'll admit it took me a good 20-40 minutes to actually click into being in a NEW star wars movie for after so long to being so used to only having 3, but the pace at which phantom menace moves and the amount of information to take in within the first 20-30 minutes comes at you thick and fast, but once i caught up, i adored it all. You get maul who is just BAD ASS, he just adds a great element to the star wars universe - no angles, no back story, a mystery and pure sith. Andi will state here and now, his entrance on naboo is still probably the finest most exciting entrance in movie history! It's almost a shame he was not around in Ep3 because he would be reveling in the victory as much as Palpatine and maybe he would have broken his slience and gone with an "IN YOUR FACE" o the jedi hehe The duel with the jedi's and maul is still one of the best. So well staged and just so much fun. There are too many moments of sheer COOL to list. And on to jar jar. i will say now - WHAT'S PEOPLE F**KING PROBLEM- JEEEEESUS!! If jar jar character was anakin - i'd get the backlash - but he's comic relief for christ sake - and he's awesome. His dialogue is superb and he adds something to it all and i'd miss him if he was'nt there. Also technically speaking, i'd say menace has probably the best overall soundmix out of the star wars movies too, the sheer range in effects and the use of the score really make you feel you're in the Star wars galaxy again and throw the pod race in there as well and it's all so damn impressive Also out of all the new trilogy, phantom comes with the best memories....the entire build up from the announcement that there would be a new Star wars movie, the amazing teaser poster, through the greatest sets of trailers ever, the new characters to meet, the old ones to rediscover, right through to the ticket buying, the relief that it was all still great desite the critical attacks and the multiple viewings...it all just makes the feelig of it all so much more that most movies around. Basically after having MENACE around since 99 i have to say the more i watch it the better it gets - i loved it then and i love it more now. Phantom Menace is the perfect introduction to the star wars galaxy and sets up all the players ready for the saga to really start unravelling. ........................................................... Forget the remake featuring The Rock, cause it doesn't even compare to the original. However, this was weirdly marketed as a right wing screed upon its initial release in 1973(and became a surprise runaway boxoffice hit especially a huge following within the drive-in theatre circuit in the South).Walking Tall was a really tragic, graphically violent post-noir film based on the life and times of Tennessee county sheriff Buford Pusser. However,Joe Don Baker gives a riveting and powerful performance as Pusser who took on determined force of crime and corruption in his town at great personal expense. Directed with an intentionally crude force by Phil Karlson, one of the toughest filmmakers of the 1950's and 1960's. Here, the film's grimness doesn't let up and neither does the scenes of raw language and strong graphic violence that gave this film a strong influence of the racial stride and hatred that went on in the South. Interesting note about this picture...It was produced by BCP Productions which was Bing Crosby's production company(yes folks,Bing Crosby was still around in 1973)and theatrically released through Cinerama Releasing Corporation. The theme song was done by none other than the great Johnny Mathis. Elizabeth Hartman(plays Pusser's wife) and Noah Beery also star in this runaway boxoffice hit which was one of the highest grossing films of 1973.

One of the few underrated films of the early 1980's that went unnoticed. This one, among the rarest that a major studio release that enthusiastically portrays America's Old Left, though in this particular story, gloom naturally trumps the enthusiasm. Inspired by the controversial 1953 execution of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg for allegedly passing atomic bomb secrets to the Soviets, director Sidney Lumet's 1983 movie of E.L. Doctorow's fictionalized The Book of Daniel(screenplay by the author),deals primarity with the effect of family notoriety on children. One offspring(Amanda Plummer) is institutionalized, while the other(Timothy Hutton) is a less obvious head case prone to caustic outbursts. With powerful childhood flashbacks,an ill-received(which got mixed reviews for the critics at the height of its release) movie that Lumet, himself regarded as one his best as weathered a quarter-century well remains a bonafide 80's masterpiece of briliant cinema.

Next to the pre-Dirty Harry Don Siegel, and not to mention pre-Wild Bunch director Sam Peckinpah,Phil Karlson was Hollywood's best director of low-budget toughies of classic "B" grade films of the 1950's and 1960's. It wasn't until the early 1970's though this career swan song doesn't offer much support for assertion. It wasn't until 1973,when Karlson made a low-budget action flick about a county sheriff who comes in and dismantled the baddies and bigots in a corrupt sleepy Southern town. The film was called "Walking Tall",and it became not only a vigilante brutal display of one man getting back at the system, but it became a call for something else. The film became one of the top ten highest grossing films of that year and it made a unknown actor by the name of Joe Don Baker into a huge star and it spawned two theatrical sequels(that starred Bo Svenson)not to mention a short-lived TV series under the same title.

After the tremendous and runaway boxoffice success of "Walking Tall",actor Joe Don Baker and director Phil Karlson reteamed again in 1975 for this expose of rampant political corruption and low-down dirtness in a sleepy Southern town, not to mention acts of revenge and envy in corrupt Southern state. "Framed" was just as good as it gets with Joe Don Baker, John Marley, and Brock Peters. Only this time around the graphic violence and strong language is ante up for maximum pleasure.

So I had planned to see this on my birthday and when I went to buy tickets a week before, I shouldn't have been surprised that it was sold out! I had to see it on Imax, which by the way you should too cause it's awesome! So I had to wait a day later but I will say it again, it was worth the wait!
I definitely think it was in the same realm as Batman Begins, but that movie was just the beginning.
I have to disagree with all the critics that say that the only reason why so many people saw it was because of Heath Ledger's untimely death. Do they not know we have been talking about this movie for over a year now? Don't they know how excited we were with each new poster and how much we died to see a new glimpse of the movie???
The Joker was great! He did an excellent job. Totally different from how Jack Nickleson portrayed him, a lot darker, and that was perfect!
Christian Bale is still my favorite pick for Batman. I have to admit though when I first heard him speak, I giggled. It sounded so funny to how Bruce Wayne talked.
Kudos to Christopher Nolan for doing such a great job and I'm excited to see what happens next.
I heard that Two Face looked horrible but when I saw him for the first time, I loved it! I don't know why but that whole skeleton look really did it for me. I wish we could have seen more.
If you waited and talked about this movie as long as I did, I don't think you will be disappointed. Actually, the only disappointment you'll feel is when Batman is driving away and you realize the movie may be finished. I was disappointed that when me and a few others stayed until the credits were done, there wasn't anything there. Wish someone (and I think he knows who he is) would have written his review already!
So what are you waiting for?! Go see this on Imax!

Hey, you should really see this! One of the first major films to deal with the subject of interracial romance and also the subject of someone with a disability at the outcome of the civil rights movement of the 1960's.
Very rare and sometimes controversial for its release in 1965,this was a huge hit at the boxoffice and with it some harrowing and riveting performances especially from Sidney Poitier and Shelley Winters(who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress). The real star of this film comes from the screen debut of a unknown actress named Elizabeth Hartman, who became an overnight success because of this movie...her performance is stunning to behold. Also catch supporting performances from actor Wallace Ford, and also from the great Ivan Dixon. The real experience comes from the moving theme score from legendary Hollywood composer Jerry Goldsmith(who was Oscar nomination for original musical score).

But mostly Heath Ledger's Joker made Jack Nicholson's Joker look like a fucking chump. Heath's performance was great. Both timely and timeless at the height of its release in 1962. It was the sort of achievement that was to be marveled.
Darryl F. Zanuck's production of "The Longest Day" was the most authentic depiction of the Invasion of Normandy during World War II ever seen in the history of cinema. Brilliant production values and fantastic action sequences and with an international cast of stars, this was absolutely astounding piece of grand entertainment.

The thrill ride of the summer. This is to let you know that the Joker is more than wild which brings the testament of Heath Ledger's performance in the second prequel to Batman. Only this time around,Ledger does this with more style and pure evil than Jack Nicholson or even Cesar Romero ever did. "The Dark Knight" brings to light the rattled and transfixation of the character's diabolical menace, blocking out thoughts of the actor's untimely death. It's a career making portrayal and a sadly a career-making one as well. To go from the tacitrum ranch hand in "Brokeback Mountain" to the embodiment of comic-book evil is a stunning trajectory. With his cracked white-pancake makeup, smeared lipstick and greasy hair, the Joker bears no resemblance to the actor that plays him but in fact, the character is like nothing we've seen or heard before. There is however a hint of Malcolm McDowell in "A Clockwork Orange",but Ledger has made this maniac his own singularly unhinged villain. From the repellent way he darts his tongue around to his sneering, nasal voice,he is a peerless eccentric.

Though this is clearly Ledger's movie, that does not diminish the accomplishments of other key cast members. Just as he was in "Batman Begins",Christian Bale is a suave Bruce Wayne and a heroic caped crusader defending Gotham City from the forces of evil.
Gary Oldman is excellent in the returning role as police Lt. Gordon.while Maggie Gyllenhaul replaces Katie Holmes, adding more depth to her character than Holmes ever did in the last installment. Even Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman lend terrific support while Aaron Eckhart is brilliant as disrict attorney Harvey Dent(the man who will transform later on in the prequel series as Batman arch nemesis Two Face).

Again, director and screenwriter Christoper Nolan has crafted "The Dark Knight" into a thrilling, morally, complex and masterfully entertaining piece of a summer blockbuster and it works or all levels. Though it clocks in at 154 minutes, the film is tautly edited with an economy of great storytelling(which goes heavily by the origins of the DC Comics Book and the comic graphic novels). The action scenes are worth the price of admission and they include amazing feats of technical virtuousity. Nolan has done it again and this time brings this second installment as one of the darkest ever in the series. It has the requisite jolts and twists. But it surprises in profound ways and gives us a
maliciously witty villain who gives a performance that is out of the ordinary.
Hey, you should really see this! Better yet,see this in an IMAX Theatre!!! It will blow you to the back of the theater!!!!

Holy fucking shit, this was the greatest 152 minutes of my life. It's an insanely epic masterpiece and I loved every fucking minute of it. It's the greatest and most perfect comic book movie to ever be made and it makes any others obsolete. I got all I hoped for and more. Not many comic book movies have exceeded my expectations but this has. Christopher Nolan is a GOD. Yes, I'm a psychotic, obsessive fanboy and I don't care what any of you pretentious, pedantic film snobs think. This is my favorite movie.

Dude, Heath Ledger is a fucking force of nature and he's truly terrifying as all hell. I just love all the character's little nuances. He totally obliterates Jack's Joker in every single way. He makes Jack look like a child. He fucking owns this movie. He has indelibly left his mark on comic and cinema fans forever. If he doesn't get an Oscar, you can bet your ass I'll be boycotting. Believe it.

The rest of the cast is fantastic, as well. Bale's the fucking man. He always brings a stellar performance. His Bruce Wayne is perfect and his Batman kicks ass. Aaron Eckhart is a treat as Harvey Dent and his Two-Face is disgustingly good. Gary Oldman is a fucking badass. He was born to play Gordon. Michael Caine is charmingly splendid, as always. Maggie Gyllenhaal does a really good job too. She actually brings some credibility and respectability to the role, unlike the generic Katie Holmes.

The atmosphere of this movie is amazingly surreal, it feels like a living, breathing comic book and the action is fucking balls to wall insane. The ending is bleak as hell but it's awesome. I wonder how Nolan and Co. are going to top this, it seems like an impossible feat. If they even come close to the sheer awesomeness of this I'll eat my shoe. Oh, and did I mention it's awesome?

Fuck Superman. Fuck Spider-Man. Batman is the shit.

My first 5-star review of 2008 goes to Christopher Nolan's masterpiece The Dark Knight. I can't think of anything original to say other than what's already been said: Believe the hype this time around!!
First off, Heath Ledger, you are a genius. From here on now, when I think of The Joker, I will no longer think of Jack Nicholson, but of your brilliant, menacing, and deepy disturbing portrayal. You easily have the most memorable performance of the year, and you deserve an Oscar win! RIP.
The Dark Knight isn't so much a comic book movie as it is a crime thriller along the vein of Heat. In that sense, it redefines both the rules of a crime movie and a summer comic book film, and it ranks with the very best of them. Best film of 2008! Best Batman movie ever! Best comic book movie ever! I wanna see it again!

Go see this on Imax!
i got my ticket! have you gotten yours yet?!??!

    Penitentiary Penitentiary
    5.0 Stars by Mister
As a second wave of blaxploitation flicks that emerge out of the 1970's,the movie Penitentiary is still bedeviled by the uncomfortable contradictions of its macho forebearers, which made it a huge boxoffice hit when it was released in 1979. It's basically the servicable yarn of a young stranger on a bum rap, sentenced to an institutional hell-hole,and eventually bucking the terror regime with two righteous fists. And daubed onto the screen with the vitality of all around excess, teetering craziliy between heavy amounts of gore, rough language and all outright farce. But its assumptions for the better of its sake, either worked beyond the comprehendsion of some of its scenes which were very honest and sometimes brutal. This was a grand film that looked into the life of a penal institional system as seen through the eyes of his character, played by Leon Issac Kennedy.
Another example of black cimema that was still standing at the end of the decade with some of the most replusive stereotyping ever imagine while the audience cheers on the victor who must fight in a system to stay alive at all costs. Done on a low budget,it was consciousness. A sequel followed in 1982 with Leon Issac Kennedy reprising the role.
