The Lovely Bones - PG-13 I kept thinking/saying to myself, "Wow, amazing, beautiful, gorgeous, etc." A number of scenes were truly terrifying to me. A number of scenes the hair raised up on the back of my neck and either my arms or my legs. I did not expect to like this so much. Cast is excellent. Lmao for the whole musical montage scene with Susan. It pushed my buttons :)

Up in the Air - R Acting is great. I love George and Vera Farminga. Tamala Jones was strong in her couple of minutes screen time. I don't really see why Anna Kendrick (who I personally had a hard time letting go of seeing her as Jessica in Twilight during this) is up for so many nominations in this as a supporting actress. There was at least one scene (and sometimes that is all it takes) where she breaks down and cries which I liked. Some of the tone was a quirky quirky for me. I thought it was PG13 while watching it with a lot of F words thrown in for good drama measure to make it more urgent even though it is R for language and sexual content it is very light, even the language seemed light -just F words thrown in for effect. I liked both Juno and Thank You for Not Smoking more. I think for me this is one where expectations where so high for critic's reviews as one of the best films of the year that I was a little let down. Maybe I would have liked the book better. Or maybe if I had seen this two years ago before I went through plant closure and job loss after 9+ years. Maybe my heart is just too hard. I really could not connect very much with all the random people whining about losing their jobs. If you like Jason Bateman and have not seen him in State of Play, it is a must see. I did like the inclusion of the very last song during the credits. I liked it overall. It is worth watching. The party crashing was kind of cool. So for me, I am... Up In The Air. January 6, 2010

Whip It - PG-13 Fun, interesting soundtrack was a good surprise, Juliet Lewis rocked!! but it was not as good as I wanted it/hoped it would be.

Ellen Page can never have enough mascara!!! Directorial debut of DrewBarrymore seems like she must have been drunk/stoned most of the time?

The Time Traveler's Wife - PG-13 I loved Audrey Niffenegger's book. I love Rachel McAdams as Claire,
Brooklynn Proulx good as youngest Claire
naked Eric Bana running around as Henry DeTamble grew on me and Ron Livingston as Gomez. I loved the character's from the book so I followed the movie easy and was already into the characters and story from the get go.

I feel bad that the movie did not do justice to the book for ppl who have not read the book.

If I remember correctly the book followed a somewhat more linear approach to Clarie's life, even though Henry is jumping around in time a lot. When he gets older and more experienced (or maybe that he just senses that the end is nearer and takes bigger risks like with experimental genetic drug treatments) does he jump more to the future. Where 99% he has been jumping back in time. So he is still in his forties or w/e when he jumps forward to 9 years after his death at the end of the movie. He doesn't come back from anywhere, he is jumping ahead. But what pissed me off is that they left out the ending of the book, where he jumps ahead to where she is like 90 years old, sitting in a rocking chair, holding on and waiting for him hoping that after all those years that he will jump forward to see her one last time before she goes.

Harry Brown - Unrated Michael Caine is Harry Brown and Michael Caine makes this enjoyable. It could be a real B movie without him but his performance and on screen power makes every scene he is in look good or at least better because of him. It slightly reminded me of Brian Cox in Red. If you are a fan of that you might like this as well.

It is very simple and straight forward, which for me was very enjoyable. I knew what was coming and I loved seeing Caine bring it. Emily Mortimer's character is too hollow and she is there for sheer star power.

Revanche - Unrated One of my favs of 2008 from Austria - an Oscar nom for best foreign language. A revenge movie with a ripple effect. Simple, beautiful decay, and hope and understanding in the midst of life. A possible precursor to a better life with love, forgiveness and restoration.
A fantastic cast: Irina Potapenko, Andreas Lust, Ursula Strauss and Ursula Strauss

Zombieland - R I liked Zombieland a lot: great soundtrack, cheesy comedic blood dripping fun. It stayed fairly consistent. I loved the cast. Jesse Eisenberg is hopefully coming along and doesn't get pigeonholed into the same role over and over. It reminded me of an American stab at Shaun of the Dead. I think Woody was great. Abigal was good and Emma hopefully keeps growing like Jessie. I'm speechless about the BM bunny trail. Overall very good, bring on part 2. January 1, 2010

Brothers - R Cast that grew on me as the movie went along. A little slow for me during the first half. But the 2nd half was straight up drama. January 1, 2010

The Cove - PG-13 I agree that this is an important documentary. Eating dolphins is not cool, even shushimi (just raw fish -no rice, no roll) which I love. The mercury levels are a real horror. It reminded me of fishing with dynamite, except slower and more painful. Some tragic footage for sure, not for the kiddies. But Oscar worthy? idk This was too long and slow for me. I wish it was condensed and only 40-45 minutes long. January 1, 2010

A Prophet (Un prophète) - R An excellent film, my second by director Jacques Audiard and I liked this a lot more than The Beat that My Heart Skipped. The pace, actors, subtle humor. It had me lol and clapping my hands as well as holding on to the edge of my seat with excitement. Sometimes prison movies can be very scary and harsh. I was in handcuffs along for the ride. Thrilling on many levels, glad it is France's Oscar submission. December 31, 2009

The Invention of Lying - PG-13 More of a serious dramedy, it seems the casting call must have been for actors with comedic experience playing the straight man because every single character plays the straight man. Interesting but a little slow, subtle and dry. Not bad, good overall. It is good to see mommy Jennifer Garner doing some work. December 26, 2009

An Education - PG-13 Peter Sarsgaard is wonderful. Olivia Williams and Emma Thomson are good. Cara Seymour is very subtle. Rosamund and Dominic are spicy. Matthew Beard does well. Alfred Molina certainly delivers.

Carey Mulligan is all that and more! Her breakout performance, the predicted woman of 2009 and Oscar worthy. She has a great cast around her and wonderful cinematography and costumes (shoes!!!) that make her shine. I expected that I would love her and I did.

A beautiful film!!
