"At first, I was somewhat hesitant to do the role. I mean, after all, Batman is an icon. But I remember, as clear as day, being at the grocery store the day the movie opened, and this little boy saw me. He couldn't have been more than five years old. He just walked right up to me and hugged me. He hugged me, and I was so moved by it that I hugged him back. Then he looked up at me and said "You're my hero." And in that moment, I knew that not only as an actor that I had done my job, but that I had made the right decision to play Batman. And I've never looked back on my the decision to play Batman since." - Christian Bale. |

Spoilers ahead:
This movie was very well acted and written, I love the humor it uses! the funny parts make the creepy parts even creepier!!
Bale yet again makes an amazing additition to a great movie - it could be his best role! and Harron needs a round of applause, the cast was amazing. The imagery was brilliant, the script and the detail is amazing. The scenes were he is talking of his "problem" are great, I love the running theme of igornace, as no one listens to each other - The scenes whwere Bateman's insanity is overlooked are excellent, the way no-one notices him carrying a bodybag even though its bloodywell obvious, when he literarly tells of his psychopathic compulsions and people just look straight past his words, and when everything else he gets away with.
The moment with the police cars and his gun is hilarius, the look on bateman's face is truely priceless, The scene with the chainsaw - cleverly timed, and the scene with Paul Allen; Hilariusly disturbing.
Patrick Bateman will never cease to creep me out at the same time as gain my sympathy (is that weird? lol) and make me laugh as well as being smugly cool (I must sound rather odd haha), this is one of my favourite films of all time, grea plot, great acting, great cinamatography, great music, great everything!
I've read the book and I must say that I prefer the movie! Which is very unlikeme as usually I'd say an adaption is never as good as the original novel but I prefered the movie; Bateman seemed more original in the movie, among other reasons such as seeing the events was just more powerfull to me than reading about them, The book is very very good though, but the movie is a bloody masterpeice, my fave movie ever!
Prince of Jutland (Royal Deceit)

This was terrible in my opinion.
The plot, and acting by Bale + Byrne on the other hand were great.
The prop department mustve had around ten pounds in this movie, the direction was AWFUL (eg. when Amlad's lady friend gets stabbed, the camera looks at her from a dull angle then to a smiling Amled, after she gets stabed from the same angle the camera goes back to amled who is crying suddenly - this is NOT bad acting, this is horrible directing and shitty camera angles.
Anyway, I cant remember what the score sounds so I cant really comment on that, the atmosphere was alright - nothing beautiful BUT I didnt press stop half way through so maybe it did well.
The fight scene corography werent much better, they were extremely fake and again the direction on the camera angles here where generic.
I dunno what else to say really - since I love CB's acting in any and every film I enjoyed watching this, and I enjoyed the plot (I also enjoyed Hamlet on which it is based) as well as the general atmosphere and time period, so I cant say is was the worst film ever, it was just bloody badly made. However I liked watching it, for the reasons I mentioned and 'cos 10 minutes into it I started to think "This is SOOO bad that it's actually good"

This is the type of movie that if you do not concentrate on it, you'll look at it wrongly. It's not a copy of the matrix and it's not a shit film. I personally liked it, It does remind me of Farienheit 451 but it's not the same. The small details make this movie good, so look deeper than just the bullet scenes people, a detail I found brilliant was when Preston (Bale's Charatcer, many a thumbs up for him btw) Used Gun-Kata, a type of martial arts for gun use, When he span two guns round whilst shooting them at the same time you could see the sorta iron-cross type symbol that was the emblem for the government of the movie, I thought that was brilliant, It's not too subtle but it's not blatant either, I thought I imagined it at first untill I re-round to check. Some may look at this film and say "If emotion is disabled, how come that guy just snickered? SHIT WRITING" well no, beacuse the writer has stated thatthe drug which is used in the film to cease emotions only stops the highest and lowest forms of emotion, the character is left behind and not every speck of emotion is gone - there are traces of emotion left for a reason.
I love revolt stories, and at the end of this movie I took the dvd out of the dvd player with a smile on my lips, happy or sad ending? It could be either, I wont spoil the ending for y'all ;)
Anyhoo, great visuals! The fight scenes were great as they often seemed surrel, the first bullet scene at the beginning of the film (when the main character preston is in the darkned room) looks almost Stop-animation-esque, which was a brilliant effect.
Ultimatly it was a good film which has been misunderstood and underrated.
I wish people would stop only looking at the surface of things and bloody concentrate!!!!
So aye, great film.

I think this is way better than people give it credit for, ignore the plot for a minute as I am sick of people basing how good/bad a movie is JUST on the plot, I enjoyed the plot and it's ok if you didnt but to ignore the directing, the musical score and other important factors is just plain dense, and bias.
Ok, acting! I thought the acting was good, especially by Bale typically - I'd have loved to see more of the character but his time on screen was short lived.
The imagery was very nice - the setting as you'd expect.
The opening was very effective I thought; Robin Williams character taking a walk, at that point we're unaware of the bomb in his coat, the camera angles here were great also - I especially like how the director didnt fall for the 'lets look at the coffin from a birds eye view!" generic angle, the final scene was also something which was very effective - and cleverer than people gave it credit for as it linked back to what the character had previously been discussing. Also I found the boat scene to be nicely done, reat angles, lovley atmosphere and it was full of 'Yep, this is a suicide' which runs chills down your spine.
The score coulda been better I suppose, it was rather repetitive but maybe that was the point.
Now I saw this film in black and white, was it supposed to be like that? xD I have seen coloured pictures but the dvd that someone sent me had no colour whatsoever, either way this black n' white added to the atmosphere despite the fact that it was probably unintensional and was just a DVD error, ah well.
Anyway, this is a good film, the effects were well thought out and I personally liked the plot, I can understand if anyone didnt but I liked it.

This move was unbelievably sweet, it had it's sad moments but you'll feel very refreshed and uplifted after you've seen it. The story is lovely, not the most original but I like that as it's a comforting side to the film. The acting was top notch, Christian Bale yet again blew me away; He acted the part of mentally slow Bobby Platt extreemly well, he didn't exgatterate the part at all as Bobby seems very normal (aside from the fact that he is 24 year old who acts like a young boy) but I've met people of a similar mental state to Bobby and I can say that it was a very very relistic portrayal. I could see parts of Bale's acting which looked adlibed, eg. the way he chewed boyishly on his hoodie strings (y'know the bits to tighten the hood) was very natural and something a child would do, hell I still do that lol. The way he walked and talked, occasionally messed up his sentences, looked at things, the way he lay on the grass to sleep was very innocent as usually city people would go "ew bugs!" and there are other aspects but I'd be here all day if I continued to describe, Bobby is ultra adorable and such a likeable character who brings a smile to my face whenever I think of the story. Spectacular acting. John Hurt's character Mr Sommers was also played well - he was likable and you could understand his shortcomings, and Daniel Benzali's character "The Fat" or mr Winters? Creepy! lol, he was brilliantly solom and mono-tone, he was dislikeable in a likeable way if that makes sense. The fine details were brilliantly done, the glint in bobby's eyes when he was happy was very sweet, and stuff Ive already mentioned and wont bother mentioning - You must watch the film instead! xD I loved it, my only critique would be that I wish it were a tv show as I felt I needed to know what happned after the film ended as it's open to more plot, Thats not really critique as its great as a movie but I thought I'd add that lol. 5/5! <3

The Machinist

Spoilers Ahead: This film 'Creeped the fuck outa me, it was amazing. As well as being visually creepy (Eg. Ivan's apperances, the little boy's epaletic fit in the horrible carnival ride etc etc) It had such a strange atmosphear which left me feeling rather tense, It's not a depressing film it's just freaky. Christian Bale's acting wasas usual spectacular, this is probably one of his "You can't reconise him" roles andI dont only mean that psychically but I mean personality wise also (of the character, very interesting story behind the character). This film was really clever as the twists and turns left you with a "Ahhh!" feeling at the end, the way every little thing ties up is brilliant. Each scene is very important to figuring out the riddle even if it does not seem like it, I also think this is one of those films where you can watch it many times and not get used to it (It's like and hour and a half long which means it's easy to stick on your dvd player too) I love it.

The Blair Witch Project
by T"As the characters run out of food, we started giving the actors less and less food..."
"Besides the fact that we wanted to keep them safe, we wanted to push them as far as possible."
Eduardo Sánchez, director
"They wanted us to be hungry and tired, so they did the sleep depravation, and they stopped feeding us... which is a great way to create animosity, for future reference."
Joshua Leonard, lead actor
"By applying the same physical and mental stresses to the actors - lack of food, lack of sleep, walking them around, fucking with them at night -, we hoped by the time we really needed them to freak out, they would be able to tap into areas of their psyche they normally wouldn't be able to tap into."
Gregg Hale, producer and former U.S. Special Army Forces linguist
"There was actually a clause on our contracts about mental health..."
Heather Donahue, lead actress
"You're waking up out of an extreme tiredness... your mind isn't quite where it should be... I mean, you can feel the blood pumping out of your skin cause it's so eerie, the sounds and the noises."
Michael C. Williams, lead actor
"We were given our instructions upon coming up to their campsite - no talking, walk quietly. We pressed on for about another minute, then finally you could see the light coloring of a tent off in the distance. Everyone took his or her places. We created a triangle around the tent but from way out. On queue - the guys hit play on the three tape players, out comes the high-pitched screech of a child - then laughter, then children talking. The actors are waking up - you could hear them talking. Then the guys begin to do footsteps in the leaves. Then, some of the guys go up and begin to violently shake the tent. The actors begin to scream and eventually run from the tent out into the woods. Their cameras rolling."
From the journal of Stefanie DeCassan, film crew member
"...and the tent started shaking and we heard babies crying outside, and so I think that all of our first reaction was 'I'm not getting up... this is not happening...'"
Joshua Leonard, lead actor
There's something about The Blair Witch Project most people fail to realize.
This is not just a movie trying to pass as a documentary with great marketing outcomes.
This is the one of the sickest, most daunting, barely legal human breaking experiences ever made in cinema.
Haxan and Artisan really went off their way trying to pass this as a true story until their premiere at the Sundance Festival.
But co-directors Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick also pushed things to the limits while trying to give the acting and shooting a sense of creepy realism.
For that purpose, they hired three inexperienced and unknown actors with high improvisational skills, gave them a crash course on the filming equipment, sent them to the woods in Seneca Creek State Park, Maryland, and directed them remotely, giving them no script dialogues and only a brief guideline of what was to come.
The result is a genuinely terrifying experience which proves to be like no other, if you embrace it as it should be embraced.
This is getting more and more difficult to achieve, as some parts of the movie have now been spoofed beyond maximum tolerance and without deserving that treatment.
But giving it the proper personal investment, you will be dragged into the woods with three people. And you will feel confused, scared, exhausted, hunted, haunted, and on the verge of physical and mental collapse. All these were felt by the actors at some point.
You stretch your physical and mental limits, and you will end up entering a different, unfamiliar reality, where nothing's certain or safe anymore. The most eerie and haunting fear of all is the fear of the unknown. If you end up being led by the darkest places of your imagination, you'll end up seing the most frightening things under the dimmest light...
For all this, and because I can truly feel that when I can create the right conditions upon viewing of this film, The Blair Witch Project stands in my book as the ultimate horror experience, side by side with the cult classics that gave me true nightmares when I was younger.
Top notch.I know most of you have already seen this.

The Exorcist
by CraigDirected by: William Friedkin.
Starring: Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow, Linda Blair, Jason Miller.
<< "Mother, whats wrong with me?" >>
The film shows us three stories. One follows an actress, who is at the top of her game. She has to temporarily move to Washington D.C with her 12 year old daughter Regan to film a new movie. Although her husband and she have divorced, she still manages, after a days worth of shooting, to come home and have a very healthy and strong relationship with her daughter. Before long, Regan's innocent personality and behavior start to change dramatically. The second shows a priest/psychiatrist, one who is slowly starting to doubt his faith in god and at the same time, having to deal with his mother's terminal illness. And the 3rd follows an elderly priest, one who appears to be long retired and is slowly withering away when he is summoned upon to fight this threat that he might have just battled before.
Many that know me should know this by now...I truly respect and love horror, but I am always saddened by the fact that it's a misjudged genre. Filmmakers of this time think that to make a horror film, you treat the audience like there stupid with a similar stupidity. Lack of character to the point of insulting our intelligence, all so the script can create situations that rely on cheap, talentless "jump scares" and "loud noises" to try and scare an audience...along with a lack of vision and skill. There are many ways a horror film can work; the three main elements should be considered...atmosphere, tension and overall, genuine scares...but also a greater understanding of character and exactly what sort of point you are trying to get across, enough to truly scare an audience deeply...The Exorcist is one of those rare classics that has it all.
The Exorcist, even after 30 or so years, still stands the test of time and is still classed as "The Greatest Horror Movie Ever Made", and I have to completely agree with them and feel pity for those who are blinded of its true greatness. The fact that people can't seem to see the film for what it truly is and always refer to the fact that it has been parodied many times over the decades. Of course, these people are in the minority thankfully. The great thing is that it still manages to shock after all these years. With a lot of older horror films, they tend to lose there momentum and that "spark" that made them so great when they were released, usually because of a decline in quality, the enhancements of CGI and the like nowadays and sometimes, the fact that a more modern film has done better...this still is no case with The Exorcist, which is the reason it will remain powerful.
I'll start with the visual aspects of the film. William Friedkin's direction is something to cherish and is highly underrated. He understands the material so well, managing to push the characters presence as the driving force underneath the slick production values and amazing atmosphere, while balancing all those with the shock value moments to bring out the most intensity available. The cinematography is pure brilliance. Having now worked more in that area through film school, I can really sit down with this film and drool over the moody lighting, the amazingly shot moments where simple pools of light, dark shades and frames covered in such an amazing hues, it really is a dazzling achievement and another driving force for the movies quality.
The screenplay remains one of the best in its genre without any doubt. Intertwining three different stories, three different backgrounds isn't the easiest of tasks, but Blatty has done so with such skill and understanding, where every character is given its due and none are ever left in the dust, each given fully fledged stories and backgrounds. The combined stories make up the darkest of dramas and that is really what it is, underneath the shock values. Sympathy is still kept at arms length when most characters do become victims to help the films frightening moments, but each character is shown as something stronger. The mother is the more powerful of the bunch, a truly caring woman who even with a failed divorce and a big career as an actress that drains her, she still manages to find the time to come home and be with her daughter...and that relationship in the film is fully realized and a real gem. The daughter is the hardest to watch, obviously. An innocent and creative girl with such love and kindness for everything and everyone around her, ultimately pulled into this abyss. Even amongst the layers of evil put through you, you can still see a small girl pushing to get out. The young priest who is losing his faith and struggles to care for his aging mother and the elderly priest, withered beyond repair, a man who still adventures, is put up against a familiar power for the last time.
The performances are brilliantly fitted and really push these characters forward. Ellen Burstyn has always played the estranged figure put through traumas, watching her inhabit the character here with such a deep understanding for motherly love and what can be seen as the deepest of traumatic experiences, she blew me away. Max von Sydow is always a force onscreen and he carries such a presence and warmth as this character, that when the time comes, we as the audience feel his power. Linda Blair...is simply remarkable. It's a performance that will stay with everyone for many more years to come. Its quite sad to know that it wasn't easy for her to grow up after such a performance, but what she had to go through, from what can be seen as a lot of physical assertion, a lot of makeup and dialogue and ideas that should be shielded from someone so young, she truly pushes through and delivers something you would see in the most seasoned actors, a hallmark performance indeed.
The Exorcist stands up to its title of "The Scariest Movie of All Time", even to this day. A film that still stands the test of time and will for many years to come, A film of such visual excellence and intensity, a film that truly scares underneath all the shock values with its powerful storytelling and its full characters, matched with outstanding acting by all.
A masterpiece of cinema.92/100
<< "There is one outside chance for a cure. I think of it as shock treatment - as I said, it's a very outside chance... Have you ever heard of exorcism? Well, it's a stylized ritual in which the rabbi or the priest try to drive out the so-called invading spirit. It's been pretty much discarded these days except by the Catholics who keep it in the closet as a sort of an embarrassment, but it has worked. In fact, although not for the reasons they think, of course. It's purely a force of suggestion. The victim's belief in possession is what helped cause it, so in that same way, a belief in the power of exorcism can make it disappear." >>A film I just had to rereview, a film I am surprised to see by a minority as nothing special...and those who haven't seen it...what can I say to you that is nice?
