Blindness - R Man - should have checked the rating before we rented this one. Just a sad, depressing movie about how bad people would get if we all went blind and were locked up. The lead character could have done so much to stop so many crimes, but didn't. Makes no sense. And I just didn't need graphic displays of how these newly blind people would take care of basic human functions. I still just can't believe that a situation like this would have been handled so poorly in real life. March 4, 2009

Amazing Grace - PG After watching the disappointing Fireproof, many friends suggested watching this movie. I am usually not into period films, but decided to give it a shot. Pretty glad I did - this is an intense tale of one man's fight to end the slave trade. I found myself interested not only in the story, but the historical details and commentary as well. I kept waiting for the lead actor to stretch out his arm across the room and smack one of the opposing people in the face with his Fantastic Four powers! Hard to separate him from that role now... oh, well. March 4, 2009

Slumdog Millionaire - R We finally got around to seeing this movie. Katie and I have been to Mumbai, so it was interesting to see the city as a backdrop. Still, a great movie with a happy ending and many sad tales on the way to that ending. Very deserving of the awards it won. March 4, 2009

Fireproof - PG Sorry - I can't give this one a good rating just because it had a good message. Clunky dialogue - my tongue hurt just watching people tripping over the lines that were written for them. Really bad background music during the action scenes spoiled them as we were supposed to be in suspense but instead broke out laughing. Several times we looked at each other and asked "who actually talks like that?" The religious conversations between people were the best parts - they seemed to spend all their time writing those to not be cliche, and you could tell where the time was spent. Got to give Kirk props for showing real anger in a Christian flick - don't see that much. Considering I would give most Christian films before this one a half star at best, that shows how much improvement there has been. But a four or five star rating would mean perfection or near perfection, and I just can't give this that high of a rating just because of the message. February 11, 2009

Taken - PG-13 A good movie. Imagine if Jason Bourne received all of the same training, but worked for a legitimate branch of the government instead of black ops. Then he got married, had a kid, and then his wife divorced him because he was never around. Fast forward to his daughter being a teenager that gets kidnapped while in Paris and Bourne goes after her. That is what you have here. Liam Neeson always does a great job in whatever role he is in, but as others have said the casting is great pretty much all around. Not incredibly original in places, but a fun, solid movie. February 5, 2009

Kung Fu Panda - PG I liked this movie - it just wasn't as funny as I would have liked and lost my interest from time to time. November 23, 2008

Quantum of Solace - PG-13 Good movie - not as good as Casino Royale, but still very good. Craig is probably one of my favorite Bonds now. November 23, 2008

10,000 B.C. - PG-13 This movie was just... silly. Get in a plot jam that you don't know how to solve Throw a spear and solve all of you problems! The effects were weak in some places, the action was entertaining when it was there, but it was also missing in some important places, like the climax! I was entertained and did watch it until the end to see what happened - so it's not like it was a total failure. Oh - and that whole shaman magic woman was just a silly pot hole solver as the throwing spear thing. September 2, 2008

Stargate: Continuum - Unrated I am a Stargate Junkie. I have now seen everything related to SG-1, and I am getting close to finishing up Atlantis. This is a great movie, but may be a little hard to follow if you are not totally familiar with the Stargate Universe. Kind of closes the whole series (all of their enemies are now defeated and pretty much dead) - so I hope we will get more of these in the future. September 2, 2008

WALL-E - G This is Pixar - what can I say? I love Pixar. The CG in this was phenomenal - I missed some of the story because I was checking out the backgrounds. Interesting commentary on human laziness too - wonder if I look like those people on the ship with my iPhone sometimes! September 2, 2008

The Dark Knight - PG-13 Great movie. Wish the theater I went to had a better sound system, but I still loved it. It actually did live up to the hype and more. July 30, 2008

Hancock - PG-13 Will Smith always delivers a great performance, even if you don't like the movie itself that he is in. I did find myself enjoying this one, and laughing a lot. Interesting way of handling a superhero story, and it definitely earns it's PG-13 rating (and then some). Some people have had problems with the fact that they don't describe what Hancock and his kind are other than Highlanders of some kind with X-Men powers. Doesn't bug me 0 they'll probably cover that in a sequel :) July 3, 2008

Get Smart - PG-13 I'm not a fan of the original series, and I didn't really care if I saw this movie. But the reviews were positive, and then Katie saw the previews and wanted to see it, so we went. I laughed a lot - it was really funny. Nice nods to the TV show, but also pretty different. June 30, 2008

Babylon 5: The Lost Tales - Voices in the Dark - Unrated I finished the B5 series recently and am trying to watch all the movies. this came first before all the others - thanks BlockBuster Total Access for messing up the order. Strange to go from 10 year old CG in the series straight to this one - but I love the updated looks. Interesting stories, one about a demon possession in space. Cool concept, a little theologically off, but bonus points for ScFi tackling a Christian subject and actually making the Priest look like a good, decent person. June 23, 2008

The Incredible Hulk - PG-13 I liked this one better than the first one. Better story, better CG, better action, and no weirdness. The first one was okay, but this one seems to fit better as a comic book movie. The ending is a bit realistic for people, seeing that you have two imaginary creatures fighting, but that is the way fights go in real life. Love the cameo at the end. June 23, 2008

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - PG-13 Did finally see it - just as good as any of the sequels, but still none of them have topped Raiders. As it should be, I guess. The ending was a little out there - even for Indiana Jones. But, I guess they have explored most of the planet's major religions, so now they need to go for aliens. June 23, 2008

The Great Debaters - PG-13 I had a bit of a hard time following this one due to being tired (the debates take some brain power to follow), but still a solid movie. Sad to think that Texas used to be so racist. June 13, 2008

Sahara - PG-13 Rented this one again - I kind of liked it. It was an obvious attempt to beat National Treasure to the punch, and some of the scenes are really hard to believe, but it was still entertaining and funny in parts. They tried hard to set up a sequel at the end, but guess that didn't work. June 6, 2008

Stargate: The Ark of Truth - Unrated I've recently become a big fan of this series. While I'm sad to see it go, this movie was a good conclusion to wrap up the Ori story line. Also some pretty impressive special effects for a direct-to-DVD movie. May 16, 2008

Speed Racer - PG Man - am I sad that this movie bombed at the box office. It was really good. It actually got a round of applause from a packed audience when we saw it. The special effects are really cool, but it also has a decent plot and good acting. Wanted a sequel of this one, but doubt that will happen now. May 12, 2008
