Is there another movie like this out there? One that dares struggle with such a unique and personal vision of the world and, what is more, explore the consequences of that vision? Add to that that you're buying into it, because George C. Scott makes such a memorable almost-Holmes, and the characters are so competent that you wonder if you're watching things fit because of serendepity or skill. This is probably my favourite movie of all-time. Make sure you get the DVD, which includes the supermarket scene that was cut from the theatrical release.
