The Vanguard The Vanguard Unrated 3.5 Stars
No way is this film perfect, never mind that small detail. This is a film that the dialoge alone gave me goosebumps and the story is more chilling in detail by the narrative. A great time waster, that will have you yelling out loud at the end..."We are the Vanguard!"

I watched this all the way through and did not realize how bad it was~ I think what held my attention is that it could have been a good horror, just fell apart.

The Proposition 1. The Proposition R 3.5 Stars
"I have a proprosition," sends all to purgatory. Sun baked richness of the film immerses you in it's heat, dust, and filth, no civilization except for a woman's garden. That proposition and the promise to bring civilzation to this hell condemns them all.Be careful of inviting the Devil to dinner,he most likely will except.
Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor) 4. Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor) R 3.5 Stars
It is fantasy, simple and some what opaque, just a myth brought to screen as many myths are told with great exaggeration, but you forgive all of this when viewing the WOW visual effects, true eye-candy! For a good time this vampire movie should do it.
Dark City 6. Dark City R 4.0 Stars
What is reality? What makes us human? Before the Matrix, there was Dark City, a science fiction/film noir that explores the question; are we the idea or dream of another being? Do we allow ourselves to be what others think us to be? I was entertained by the Matrix, I was inspired by Dark City.

    The Exorcist The Exorcist
    5.0 Stars by Audrey
I saw this movie when I was 12/13 years old when it was re-released around 1974. My father would not allow me to see it the first time round,so I bought the book and devoured it-much to his chagrin...

The book was excellent-and quite successful in scaring the bejesus out of me. BUT the movie-oh my god!!!! It really frightened me to death. I am always surprised when people say that it was funny or overrated-because it truly was the scariest movie ever upon release. Was it just Catholics who flipped out over the film? I was raised in a non practising Catholic family, but they sent me to an all girls Catholic school right up through high school.

I need only to hear Tubular Bells and the hair still stands up on my arms and neck. I watched this movie with my teen stepson and his friend-wanting to share this horrifying experince with the generation of slash and gore fans and they LAUGHED... They thought it was funny. I remain flabbergasted and a tad disappointed in their reaction.

This is my Halloween "offering". THE scariest movie I've ever seen.
My pick for a chilling Halloween flick.

    Venus Venus
    4.0 Stars by Audrey
Exquisite, painful and life affirming-Venus is an amazing movie starring Peter O'Toole as an aging actor who finds that most of his roles these days are playing those about to die or corpses...

Although approaching death, he finds renewal and inspiration in the form of a young neice of a friend, whose youthful sensuality and beauty stirs the embers of a once passionate, erotic man.
Hey, you should really see this!

The Kite Runner The Kite Runner
    4.5 Stars by Audrey
A beautifully written book and a very good screen adaptation. The story is poignant and heartbreaking, taking place in Afghanistan-a country torn apart by war and foreign occupation.

What I enjoyed most about this movie was
learning about Afghanistan and it's customs, values and cultural identity before the French;before the Russians and before the Americans. The film paints a picture of cultural values and ideals which are quite stunning spiritually and humanely. The Taliban (sp?) is portrayed as a violent, evil force that has contributed to the destruction of a country and it's people. A very timely story given world affairs today and the aftermath of the tragedy in New York City.
What a profoundly engaging and heartwrenchingly beautiful story.
