Doubt - PG-13 Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman play once again so well opposite of each other and Amy Adams is true to the innocent character, but Viola Davis and her short scene made me ache at every line, outstanding performance by Davis. The absence of dialoge in some secenes left the acters with nothing but their expressions and sent chills up my back, very effective and no doubt this film is a gem. October 1, 2009

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead - R The Devil is in the details and he was well paid on this film.
Layer upon layer of nuances that are a delight to catch.Sidney Lumet's direction
was nearly perfect for this film.Notable are the actors.
Philip Seymour Hoffman the smooth, affable and well groomed executive
He Hides all his secrets well.
Amy Ryan and her bitterness toward Ethan Hawke's character
is so papable I cringed with every look and sneer from her.
Albert Finney's performance was so real my heart broke with every scene.
The list goes on, like I said the details are abundant and give this
film a full and seamless journey.

Secretary - R Delightful.
No love story should be without a pair of bondage cuffs, red pens, stinky feet,a roach and Maggie Gyllenhaal. No need for a "safeword" this film is a touching story of two people complimenting each other and finding exceptance. Gyllenhaal is a pleasure to watch and both Spader and Gyllenhaal clearly display emotions that bring us to tears, laughter and that euphoric feeling of exceptance.

Acolytes - Unrated It could have been an unnerving experience in total. Similar to Ils,Strangers and Wolf Creek, all films which made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Why oh why do film directors insist on that jumpy, flashy, music video type of filming ? Do they think it will makes us feel more uncomfortable? Heck, the subject matter of this film was enough to creep me out. Come on, I enjoy the discomfort of "Dexter" and "Bully." Having teens act as these three do is the horror of this film and Joel Edgerton is Aussie creepy. The twist is jaw dropping, though if you are able to concentrate through the fluttery images you can figure this one out quickly. I stayed with it for some of the images and wanted to see more, I was not disappointed there are some great screen shots that add to the all out creepiness of the subject matter. The actors did their job and I only wish these directors will tire of the flashy , jumpy crap and let the actors perform, I can understand if Acolytes were hired to do the job and you needed the flickering to distract us from the mediocre acting, but it was not needed for this film. Those little demons did a good job. So in conclusion I would say rent it and enjoy the squirm- in -your -chair feel of this film, agonize over the dippy-do-da editing and admire the acting as each character makes you uncomfortable with the underlying horror of people and the choices they make without a thought to the moral consequences. With A Friend Like Harry - R Exciting leisurly walk with a psychopath. This film moves at a slow steady pace and is not for fans of "slasher among us" quick fix. Reminds me of Hitchcock and his subliminal protrayal of characters that appear normal and just have that certain creepiness we the viewer cannot quite put our finger on. August 6, 2009

Conjurer - R A decent low-budget film, Andrew Bowen(Shawn Burnett) is believable and made this film a easy view. Nothing new, but what is anymore ? August 6, 2009

Feast - R Hero: Listen to me. A storm o'hell's coming down on this place any second. I don't know what they are, I don't know where they came from. All I do know is that these fuckers are fast, nasty, and hungry... and there's four of 'em. They got claws like Ginsu knives and more teeth than a chainsaw. They're comin'... right now. So we gotta lock this bar down. That means doors, windows, drains, and zippers, and we gotta do it now. You! Get a phone, call the cops, National Guard, townies, anybody who kicks ass, and get 'em out here. Any questions?
A nice gore fest with a potential cult statis.
Onscreen vital statistics (including estimated life expectancy) of the characters was hilarious and I enjoyed the laughable fun made of most horror films . Great tongue in cheek fun and eye popping effects.
