And when the crowd is finally tired of your screams and wandered home...I will climb up through your blood...and sit beside you. I will look deep into your eyes...and drop by drop...I will trickle my disgust into them...like burning acid...until...finally...you perish." Alan Rickman - Perfume : The Story Of A Murderer. |

Diary of the Dead
R
This movie started off in a very cool way, but it didn't take long before it got only ok to watch. Some students are making a horror movie when a virus breaks out and people dies like flies, only to wake up again as zombies. This movie is shot in a "documentary" style....with hand-held cameras....alot like Cloverfield and The Blair Witch Project. I believe that George A.Romero can do better than this.
The Invasion
PG-13
Yet another remake that I think was ok. It managed to get some of the claustrophobic feeling through, but not in the way that the original does.
The Bank Job (2008)
R
I like this "based on a true story" movie about a bunch of amateurs who sets out to rob a bank by tunneling underground into the vault of a London bank in 1971. It's funny and quiet bizarre how they managed to pull it off. There are in fact many funny moments in this movie, but this is not a comedy....and it's not a pure action//thriller either, but a nice mix of it all. Definately worth watching.
Death Sentence
R
A good revenge-movie. They take things a bit further than they usually do in movies like this, but that was a nice unexpected surprise.

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer

This is a movie right up my alley. Weird, at times sick and also tragic. The music fits this movie perfectly, and this movie is wonderfully shot. Now I'm gonna read the book.

Wristcutters - A Love Story
by mayainteresting and odd, this little indie flick was pleasant and entertaining, but then I love Patrick Fugit and Tom Waits. While it did lag at times and certain things just didn't fit ( I don't want to spoil anything) I really enjoyed being in this bizarre alternate universe (but don't worry i'm not going to kill myself).
Hey, you should really see this it was a nice little surprise.

Hitman
by KJNot what I had expected... I've never played the video game, so I have no idea if the movie was adapted well. First off, Timothy Olyphant (he's a babe) was not the actor I anticipated being cast as Agent 47. ( I am used to him being a slightly sleazy, yet romantic type.) Amazingly to me, he pulled off the dark persona of someone who has lived their life in seclusion, studying only the art of killing quite convincingly. The script could have used some refining, but the film has plenty of action and is just pure mindless entertainment. Olga Kurylenko offers the men some eye candy (nudity) and in her role as Nika, presents a diversion from killing to Agent 47 (albeit a small one). Not a film for everyone, but if you enjoy action and don't want to have to use the brain cells too much, it's worth a watch.
Looking for an action filled movie? Don't want to have to think too much? Check out Hitman...

Never on Sunday
by mayaInteresting enough if you think of how Americans are culturally inept and how incapable they are of accepting cultural differences. This film toys with the concepts of morality and how they differ from culture to culture and how Americans must Americanize every single place they set foot in and how damn near impossible it is for Americans to survive outside of their comfort zones...
Dassin is a horrendous actor though; i recoiled every time he opened his mouth..i would have enjoyed the film so much more if it was any other actor in the role of the stupid American (although he was a very stupid stupid guy).Hey, you should really see this! As clownish as Dassin is in his acting role it's still worth checking out

Iron Man
by KJIron Man lives up to its hype! The movie ROCKS! Robert Downey Jr. was perfectly cast as Tony Stark. The supporting cast fit their respective roles like a glove. The script is intelligent, the special effects are just enough, the character building works well, the direction is good (great cameo by Favreau), the action/fight scenes leave you wanting more and one can only hope a sequel will be forthcoming. Though I'm not a comic book fan, I'd have to say Iron Man rivals Batman Begins as the best comic book movie to date. The only thing (outside the crappy screen & sound of our local cinema) I found lacking was the score. Batman Begins does have a better score than Iron Man. The best thing about this film is that you don't have to be a fan of Iron Man comics to totally enjoy it.
Hey, you should really see this! If you see this one at the cinema, hang around after the credits for a neat cameo appearance.
Hope this one hits Blu-ray soon!posted 11 days ago -

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead
by KJThis movie garners an above average ranking from me because the acting is stellar and the plot is intriguing. The constant transfer from present to past to present to past was bit overdone in my opinion. I think Sidney Lumet had a great script and he worked the actors perfectly. I just wish he'd not used the time frame switching quite so often. It was too much of a distraction from the film. Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ethan Hawke and Marisa Tomei fans will want to see this one.
It's worth a rental if you're a fan of the actors....

Lars and the Real Girl
by KJThough not the all out comedy I had expected from the trailers, Lars & The Real Girl is an original and funny, yet absolutely touching look at acceptance of those who are different. With a fresh concept and a new twist on looking at one form of mental illness, Nancy Oliver (writer) and Craig Gillespie (director) have given movie viewers an almost perfect film. Ryan Gosling is hand downs one of todays best actors and he literally brings Lars to life before your eyes. The supporting cast are stellar and each fits his/her character like a glove. Humorous, compassionate and filled with humanity, this is a must see film.

3:10 to Yuma (2007)
by KJDisclaimer: I have not seen the original 3:10 to Yuma.
Once upon a time I enjoyed a good western. It's been a long time coming, but 3:10 to Yuma is a classic yet modern western with all the goodies. The story may not be the best scripted, but the acting, cinematography, the score, the directing, and the action are above average. Most enjoyable are the characters portrayed by Russell Crowe (Ben Wade) and Ben Foster (Charlie Prince). Wade and Prince are the 'bad' guys. Crowe and Foster shine in these roles. The hero is an odd character, but Bale portrays him perfectly for the script. The supporting cast add to the movie and do not distract. Watching this on Blu-Ray, I must say the surround sound was awesome. Overall, this may not be a must see movie, but if you ever enjoyed a good western, this one should sit well with you.Hey, you should really see this!

There Will Be Blood
by KJA film unlike any other in 2007.... Paul Thomas Anderson delivers a knockout punch with There Will Be Blood! The cinematography, writing, scripting, directing, scoring and acting blend the story of a lust for power into a cinematic masterpiece. Daniel Day Lewis has no rivals. He is the ultimate actor. A film everyone should see, just to say they've seen it. Even if you end up hating it. (Seems the reviews are split on this one.) Once There Will Be Blood releases on Blu-Ray, it will become a centerpiece in my collection.
