My Favorite Movies

Even in the face of Christopher Nolan's truly awesome new Batman film franchise, Tim Burton's movie remains one of my favorite comic book films, and a great interpretation of Batman. Michael Keaton's Batman is second only to Christian Bale's, and Jack Nicholson makes a truly spectacular Joker. Love it!

An incredible movie. I don't need to waste time telling you why I loved it; chances are I loved it for the same reasons that you loved it. I just wanted to wax political for a moment, and present to you the idea that the main conflict within "The Dark Knight" is actually a pretty strong allegory for the War on Terror. Think about it. George W. Bush is Batman. He uses sometimes questionable tactics to protect his turf from the mad, chaotic threat of the Joker, who represents Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda ("some people just want to watch the world burn"). In the end, the people turn on Batman, and he is forced to wear the mantle of the bad guy in order to allow for the worship of Harvey Dent. Dent, for his part, represents Barack Obama; although Obama is as corrupt and as fallible as the next politician, he gives the people hope for a better world. Personally, I think Obama is a douche, but I guess he's America's "white knight" of the moment, while George Bush flees into the night as the "dark knight", at least able to take solace in the fact that he protected America in the ways that counted most.

This remains my absolute favorite comic book movie of all time. My hat's off to the screenwriters, because they managed to combine the best elements of the original comic book series with the best elements of the wildly popular TV show, and blend them together to create what I consider to be the definitive version of the TMNT. Awesome, awesome flick.

The "Beauty and the Beast" of its time, "Sleeping Beauty" is an extremely high point in Disney's laudable history of animated features. The imagery and music are gorgeous, and the characters and storyline are strong.

An eloquent film noir set in a world shared by real people and famous cartoon characters. A very special movie.

This terrific musical will still be beloved by fans of all ages long after Tim Burton's atrocious "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" has been relegated to its rightful place in obscurity.

A rare case of a remake outdoing the original. Robert De Niro's performance is the very definition of tour de force.

Head-over-heels superior to the 1950 snoozefest.

One of the few TV-to-movie adaptations that really, really works. This is a supremely creative, humorous, and faithful portrayal of the Addams Family, with masterful performances by all, especially Raul Julia as Gomez and Christopher Lloyd as Fester.

The finest retelling of Jesus' story ever committed to film. Max Von Sydow turns in an excellent performance as Jesus Christ.

A great movie with a great concept, and Dustin Hoffman is fantastic as Hook.

My all-time favorite movie version of "A Christmas Carol".

A Christmas Eve tradition!

Like the Addams Family movie, this adaptation of "The Flintstones" really gets it right. The casting is spot-on, and the props and scenery all look like they were lifted directly from the TV show. Very well done.

Not strictly historically accurate, but fun, with good music, good acting, and plenty of humor. One of my very favorite musicals.
