Fight Club (1999,  R)
Fight Club
According to the first rule we supposed not to talk about the fight club. So no comments. Ok, bad joke. Here we go.
This movie is awesome. It shows the desperation and emptyness of our days. A youth without values and goals, suffering the pressure to have more and more. The death of pop culture. Besides, the end is terrific. The cast is perfect. Brad Pitt and Edward Norton in memorable performances.
What else can I say? Brilliant movie of one of the greatest filmmakers, David Fincher.
2
Magnolia (1999,  R)
Magnolia
Perfect movie which shows the threads that links people emotionally and how they deal with pain and frustration. As we see coincidences donīt exist, things always happen for a reason and suddenly something extraordinary may appear to wake up or to take back to the trails, as a brilliant metaphor, a frog rain.
A superb cast, all fitted in terrific roles, perfectly written, so many memorable quotes and a beautiful/sad song by Aimee Mann, which combines totally to establish the atmosphere.
Besides, the intro is so interesting...
3
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004,  R)
4
The Shawshank Redemption (1994,  R)
The Shawshank Redemption
This is always in my favorite list. An innocent man chasing liberty with all his intelligence. A real friendship which time canīt wipe out. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman at one of their best performances. Stephen King showing he can write good stuff outside the terror field. Highly recommended. To be seen again and again.
5
Saving Private Ryan (1998,  R)
6
Schindler's List (1993,  R)
7
Jerry Maguire (1996,  R)
Jerry Maguire
This is a movie that talks to my heart. I watched it for the first time in a moment of crisis and it helped me a lot. Motivation is all it takes, because the failure isnīt the end, itīs the chance to make it all again, in a perspective more intelligent.
Itīs a romantic movie, but itīs more than that. Itīs about to go beyond the obstacles. We donīt need to give up our dreams.
Itīs a inspiring movie. All the characters are special (The football player by Cuba Gooding Jr., the single mother by Renee Zellwegger, the cute boy by Jonathan Lipnicki and of course, Jerry Maguire himself by Tom Cruise) and the quotes are memorable ("Show me the money! Say it Louder" and "You said fuck. Thatīs ok, I wonīt tell" and "You complete me" - "Shut up! You had me at hello".
Jerry Maguire is me and you. We have to break through and conquer the challenges of life without forgetting the values of family and love.
I donīt get tired to watch again and again. Itīs unforgettable! It got me!
8
Forrest Gump (1994,  PG-13)
9
The Departed (2006,  R)
The Departed
What a cast! Scorsese is really a master in film making. Deserves an /oscar. Di Caprio and Wahlberg for leading and supporting roles.
10
The Goonies (1985,  PG)
11
The Pianist (2002,  R)
12
Lucky Number Slevin (2006,  R)
Lucky Number Slevin
What a perfect flick! A gangster movie with mystery and a Kiss Kiss Bang Bang / Snatch kinda comedy. The quotes are great, I got a smile on the face from the beginning til the end. Cool things like the Kansas City Shuffle and the Kelevra thing. The scenarios are great too.
Josh Hartnett is great like the guy in the wrong place in the wrong time, and this peculiarity that he canīt be nervous or disturbed (I canīt say the name of the thing).
Morgan Freeman and Ben Kingsley are excellent like the Boss and the Rabii (because he is a Rabii) and Bruce Willis is great as the hitman, something he always does well.
The narrative is cool and the ending is awesome. So itīs a good entertaining and intelligent movie to watch and to buy. The most pleasant surprise of lat years. I just have to keep the name of this screenwritter in mind.

21 Grams (2003,  R)
14
Cidade de Deus, (City of God) (2003,  R)
Cidade de Deus, (City of God)
Best brazillian movie of all time! Cinematography and edition must be praised. The story is totally relevant for the world to know. It's real and it's shocking. Violence steals the innocence of the children. Fernando Meirelles introduced himself. We'll hear about him a lot in the following years.
15
Amores Perros (2001,  R)
Amores Perros
Yes! Our "hermanos mexicanos" do great movies too! I love connected stories. That's a good one.
16
Being There (1979,  PG)
17
Hotel Rwanda (2004,  PG-13)
Hotel Rwanda
Itīs a punch in the stomach. As we see the lack of love and racial discrimination among people in the same race, same town, same tribe. Don Cheadle moves me in this movie. Heīs an island of compassion in a giant sea of violence and terror. We gotta see more movies like this, cause we forget about what happens in Africa very easy.
18
The Matrix (1999,  R)
19
School of Rock (2003,  PG-13)
School of Rock
This movie rocks!!!!
Jack Black was born to do this. Cool from the beginning to the end. The music is great, the rock classes are fun and the kids really rock. Plus, we learn rock isnīt about sex, drugs and rebeldy. But itīs attitude up against "the man". Letīs kick ass with guitars in our hands and rock in our vains. For those who rock we salute. Yeah!
20
Back to the Future (1985,  PG)
Back to the Future
Extraordinary! It amazed when I was a kid and it does until now. I love McFly and Doc Brown. The contrast of thirty years is really great and all the confusion they get into and the references. A perfect classic!

About a Boy (2002,  PG-13)
About a Boy
Nick Hornby is cool. And his characters are perfect for Hugh Grant or John Cusack.
In this one, a shallow man which has everything without effort is impacted by a little boy, so-called loser, without a male reference and his single mom.
I totally love the quotes and some situations that are hilarious. The ridiculous show of the little boy singing "Killing me Soflty" is touching (reminds me Little Miss Sunshine).
A very good movie to see and think about our values.

The Prestige (2006,  PG-13)
The Prestige
Excellent! Chris Nolan never disappoints me. Now we have a movie about rivalry, obsession and love. Everything arranged in a story about magicians with all well crafted tricks. And thereīs more. Interesting plot twists, original narrative. Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale in awesome performances.
41
Children of Men (2006,  R)
Children of Men
Excellent! A good surprise! In a selfish and individualist world, we need to worry about the future and commit to do our best to keep our humanity. Otherwise, our sons will inherit a land of misery and lack of hope. This movie tells a lot about it. It brings reflexion and impact. A world without children is a world without future, hope and joy. The characters are well performed. The end is strange, but after a while, we understand that doesnīt need to be explained to be poetic.

O Ano em que Meus Pais Saíram de Férias (The Year My Parents Went on Vacation)
Lovely film! Sad but beautiful. Very charming story. It brings a sensation of missing those days, even me that wasnīt born yet.
Itīs the perfect contrast. World Football Cup won by Brazil in 1970, with all the joy it brings and the dictatorial ages with all the repression and fear. And seen by the eyes of a child, what makes more adorable to see.
53
The Machinist (2004,  R)
The Machinist
Another outstanding performance by Christian Bale. Itīs creepy to see him so skinny and depressed. Loved the plot, the twist in the end, the psychological issue, all the sadness. Thatīs really a great movie
54
The Family Man (2000,  PG-13)
The Family Man
Great and inspiring movie ā la Capra. About choices, love and fate. Everybody has imagined what if this or that... well, our lives are made of choices and this movie gives us the opportunity to think about it.
