Whatever Works Whatever Works PG-13
The dialogue seemed so forced and I really only laughed once. This whole movie came off more like a high school play than a Woody Allen film. I guess it was alright but I'd be lying if I didn't say I was disappointed. Sometimes, Woody, mediocrity is worse than an epic failure. My main problem I guess (aside from the fact that they throw the words "string theory" and "quantum mechanics" around as though that isn't just the default cliche that pretentious idiots use when they want to sound smart, and the hackneyed device of the lovable impressionable God fearing simpletons of the South,) is that the plot turns here are predictable and frankly, stupid, meaningless and unoriginal. I feel like I just watched a romantic comedy starring Jennifer Aniston.

A weird, very slow, and not terribly insightful movie. Park's movies often seem to be unable to focus on a main conflict in the story. There's no one big problem that needs to be resolved for the ending.

[This girl thinks she's a cyborg so she won't eat, the doctors can't get her to eat. This other patient, through his own insanity convinces her to eat. Was that the conflict? I don't think so. The solution was too anticlimactic. Figuring out what her grandmother said the meaning of existence is, was that the conflict? Well if it was they didn't resolve it. Becoming mentally stable and leaving the institution? No. Fixing her sour relationship with her mom? No. Learning that she's not cyborg? No.]

As a result it suffers because it's just not satisfying. Though I will say as always the soundtrack and cinematography are great and the characters are interesting.

Though, having a protagonist who is so lacking of any good attributes besides being pitiful and cute is the very thing that always makes me stop watching movies like this for months at a time.
