Paranormal Activity - R Tedious, boring, lame, anticlimactic, lazy movie. Very natural performances but very dull linear story. Go watch '70s Omen instead, that'll scare you in broad daylight and give you nightmares. November 14, 2009

9 - PG-13 Average flick with little emotional engagement inspired from me. Brilliant premise, but ultimately a largely dull and flat cartoon that takes itself very seriously. Unremarkable. Kept the kids happy. November 14, 2009

2012 - PG-13 November 14, 2009

Choke - R November 9, 2009

Objectified - Unrated Good summing up of design in your life, if a little dry and a little too long. Does reinforce the notion that some (by no means all) designers are self-indulgent deluded twats. November 8, 2009

Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others) - R At last. A film for grown ups. September 25, 2009

District 9 - R solid but flawed. with neither a great plot nor great characters the only remarkable things are the situation and some of the weapons. not helped by some really bad acting from supporting cast. September 8, 2009

The Tenant - R September 7, 2009

The Hurt Locker - R Not a bad movie, but not great IMO. Enjoyed it more than Jar Head but think Blackhawk Down and the venerable Three Kings are better movies. Maybe I just didn't feel the tension, but then it's not like I haven't seen UXB, land mine, and sniper scenes before. The protagonist wants to be Lethal Weapon but just isn't crazy or deep enough to be convincing. September 5, 2009

Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus - R awful: Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus < Snakes on a Plane <= Mutronics. seriously, it's bad bad and I don't remember Debbie Gibson's nose looking so weird in profile back in the late eighties. Extra half star for silly in-jokes. August 19, 2009

G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra - PG-13 It's X-men meets James Bond (when they let him have gadgets) with a small dash of Star Wars prequel (not enough to sour). If this had old school Bond running around in it I would've enjoyed it even more. But, at least Paris got wrecked :-) August 17, 2009

Visioneers - Unrated Slightly above average typical tale of dealing with a mid-life crisis whilst in fulltime employment. Kind of a cross between Reggie Perrin and Brazil. Slow pace, ulitmately nothing new to say. July 24, 2009

Moon - R Toneless, obvious, and unchallenging. Really bad choice of piano soundtrack. July 23, 2009

Surrogates - PG-13 July 23, 2009

Rory O'Shea Was Here (Inside I'm Dancing) - R Surprisingly engaging flick about a couple of cripples and their desires and experiences for and of independent living. Loses a star only for being TV fodder (can't imagine willingly seeing this at the cinema - zero spectacle) July 5, 2009

Adaptation - R A strong first half but a kind of standard second half. Which, cleverly, is likely the point. Don't let Nick Cage put you off just because he has a famous brother. June 25, 2009

The Fountain - PG-13 An emotive tale. Not exactly what I was expecting, and not a major mindphuck but welcome all the same. June 20, 2009

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - PG-13 If you like testicle jokes this is the right movie for you. Lazy writing leads to a tedious couple of hours in the cinema I'm afraid. And what's with the transformer in human form, WTF?! (Disclaimer: I know zero about Transformers canon) June 20, 2009

Push - PG-13 Not a bad movie, great premise. Goes on a bit too long and the twisty turney stuff is not too groundbreaking. Culminates in the third act as Just Another Gun Movie which I found somewhat staid and disappointing. Worth a watch. June 14, 2009

Terminator Salvation - PG-13 I can't help feeling this movie is 10 years too late and the world has moved on. Having said that, it's not a bad flick and one of McG's better efforts. If I was still in my twenties I'd probably rate this movie half a star higher. Transforminators it is. Though Moon Bloodgood has the edge over Megan Fox, or perhaps that was just the jumpsuit. That can't be a real name, surely?! June 6, 2009

Star Trek - PG-13 June 3, 2009

Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian - PG Average effects laden mush. May 28, 2009

Fanboys - PG-13 Charming, silly, extra half star for cameo selection. Emotionally a bit flat. May 12, 2009

Gremlins 2 - The New Batch - PG-13 As bad (poor) as I remember it. Even the kids found it a struggle to get through this one. Every is great about the movie except the story. April 26, 2009
