Trick 'r Treat - R Brilliant horror of four intertwining stories. We see a school principal with what at first appears to be a deadly secret, some school friends whose Halloween trick goes wrong, a young female virgin with an interesting double life and an old man who's not keen on halloween. Fun and darkly comical. Brilliant stuff! December 19, 2009

Pretty Persuasion - R Black comedy/drama with Evan Rachel Wood as a manipulative high school girl who persuades two friends to accuse a male teacher of sexual harrassment. As the film goes on we find out Wood's character is pretty evil and being a bitch. Why, we don't know until the end but its often funny and sometimes offensive finding out! With Evan Rachel Wood giving another great performance and also a brilliant supporting role from James Woods. Good script and story. Well acted. Worth a look. December 19, 2009

Paranormal Activity - R Creepy as fuck, haunted house mockumentry. A couples house is being haunted by what seems an angry spirit so the couple decide to catch the footage of strange noises and movements on film. When it turns out its more than the house that the spirit is connected with, things get pretty scary. Although critics might complain that not much happens, this is what made it seem so real to me, with the odd moment of hands in front of your face creepiness, and the ending is one of the scariest i've ever seen and those last five minutes definately stayed with me for a while. Its a shame this has been so hyped up; if it was released in cinemas with little fuss or just randomly put out on DVD, Paranormal Activity could be a cult classic. December 12, 2009

Doghouse - Unrated Horror comedy from Jake West who had previously treated us to the delights of B-movie classics Razor Blade Smile and Evil Aliens. In this one, a man depressed after his divorce gets together with his mates to go on a trip to a tiny village for nothing but a weekend of booze and women. So far, so good. But when it turns out that the female population of this village are man-eating zombies the lads are soon fighting for their lives. This is a funny and gory film that horror fans should enjoy. For Jake West to get Danny Dyer and in particular the brilliant Stephen Graham on board is great for him as his last couple of films have relied on largely unknown actors. Throw in sexy Emily Booth as a zombie ex-hairdresser and your in for a good time! Not quite as insanely brilliant as Evil Aliens but great none the less. December 12, 2009

The Nines - R Fascinating drama/thriller with a brilliant performance from Ryan Reynolds playing three different characters whose lives intertwine in an interesting and unexpected way as we find out the answer to the question; what are The Nines? A compelling film and a pleasant suprise. December 12, 2009

Tormented - R Teen horror about a schoolboy who when bullied to the point where he commits suicide, comes back from the dead to get revenge. Although nothing special, this is a fun and occasionally funny and gory horror/comedy. Not a bad young cast including a few from cult Brit comedy/drama series Skins and fit, posh newcomer Tuppence Middleton make for an enjoyable, if sometimes dodgy, little horror film. Sunshine Cleaning - R Comedy drama about a struggling single mum who wants to send her son to private school. After realising theres plenty of money to be earned in the crime clean-up game, she ropes her sister in to help her. This is fairly original, i've never seen a film about a crime clean up crew, and well acted by Amy Adams and Emily Blunt as the two sisters struggling for direction in life. Great stuff. Silent Blood Night - Unrated Horror from cult B-movie raggamuffins, Brain Damage Films. When a local news reporter hears about a murder, she investigates, but bites off more than she can chew when a mentalist starts a killing spree. Theres bad gore, crap acting and nudity everywhere in this film that despite being shit has some sort of weird charm to! November 21, 2009

The Fourth Kind - PG-13 A very interesting look at alien abduction. Using real footage of peoples experiences in amongst the dramatisation, the real life footage is scary stuff and really gets you thinking while the moments with Milla Jovovich, Will Patton etc lend the story/stories some weight. If you have an open mind to UFO's, aliens and abduction then you will find it fascinating, possibly very scary. If not then you might think its a load of old monkey spunk. For me, the subject has interested me for years so i was looking forward to this and, for the most part, wasn't disappointed. November 21, 2009

Jennifer's Body - R Cool horror/black comedy about the seemingly unatainable high school girl being an evil man eating vampire! Despite the title, this focuses on Jennifer's high school friend and her discovery of Jennifer's vampire antics. Although not a life changing event(how many films are?) this is a witty, often funny, occasionally gory and pretty sexy black comedy. Megan Fox does a good job as Jennifer. Not brilliant but better than expected, shes still one of the sexiest actresses around, no doubt about that. Amanda Seyfried is also great as her best friend. Fans of Ginger Snaps will like this as its a similar story. Cool soundtrack to. Overall, a good, well written and entertaining film. November 21, 2009

The Hole - R Interesting horror about a group of public school students that go down an abandoned shelter to get out of a school trip but get more than they bargained for. Good story with some cool twists. November 21, 2009

Pride and Glory - R Great crime thriller about a family of cops in New York whose morales and loyality get pushed to the limit when it appears one of them could be involved in a fatal shooting that saw four of their own get killed. Tense, compelling and brilliantly acted. Colin Farrell is great in this, as usual, but then again, so is everyone else! November 21, 2009
