Alien Trespass - PG i'm of the uniquely personal opinion that there's not enough aliens trying to take over the earth, 'cause if there was then what's takin'em so long, eh?! April 4, 2009

Knowing - PG-13 movies like this make me wish the end of the world would simply come and get it over with so i don't have to tolerate another silly end-of-the-world send-up. nicky cage makes yet another house payment with a performance that says:"it's only a movie, so get over it already and get a life!" so much for the hope that was.
the cgi guys care about their jobs though, and thank goodness, or this would have nada to recommend it.
spoiler alert: the aliens are the angels! whodathunkit?!?

The Grass Is Greener - Unrated an old school english drawing room comedy of manners wherein modern millionaire yank bobby mitchum handily poaches titled yet impoverished englishman cary grant's filly, seven year itchy deborah kerr. is it gunfight at the ok corral then? or perhaps a duel at dawn? oh no. director stanley donen paces us thru the worst of personal relationship wars with rapier wit and comedic banter that dares one to keep up with all the verbal grenades tossed about. throw in atomic jean simmons as a tipsy though possibly explosive tour guide and you've got a different kind of filmic entertainment, entertainment that thinks as fast as you. maybe faster. Watchmen - R a visual eyepopper with impeccable DNA this ballyhooed some such of a show ultimately fails only because of a so-so main story, as no doubt you've probably heard. if you haven't heard, then read no furthur, please.
however, in the many ideas under the story, well it's there that this film will find it's legs. it propositions, f'instance, quite as casually as an afterdinner mint, that beating up people because you can is,uh,...sexy. that killing people you don't like is, uh,...cool (even if you got her pregnant in the first place). and rape, well, uh,..."you know "they" all want it". how does this film hide these high-school-jock-locker-room aesthetics? how does it get away with it? the old fashioned way: with lots of explosions, fights and poontang. disturbing that a film with D-grade values like this mainstreamed like this one did/does...

My Man Godfrey - Unrated the ever vivacious carole lombard only seems to star in this american 30's"upstairs, downstairs" but actually she's only a stand-in, a mannequin for what hollywood powers-that-be must've thought of most of the a
"girls-next-door", rich or poor: vapid chowderheads. her only real job in this is to admire and long-for the offered smug boy-toy, william powell, who gamely is both "regular guy" hobo and erudite harvard grad, dream man. the lessons he "teaches" the upper class are made-to-order for what hollywood must've believed the lowerer classes (read: ticket buying) public really wanted to hear, which, if one watches, will have one dumbstruck at the audacious stupidity of the plan, played straight and w/o a wink. the only real sparks then in the film are hidden in the scenes between powell and the "bad girl", gail patrick (as smug as powell and blow for blow his equal, his ideal and thus, the right choice), whom he psych-crushes with some smarter-than-thou insightful pity simply because she's hip, knows she's his ever livin' ying, which leaves him bubbleheaded lombard, which powell himself doesn't seem to understand. still, a popular populist bit o'pablum that showcases the strong points of both leads.

Zeitgeist: Addendum - Unrated what if the time had come to decide whether the old system for running the world was working or no? what if it were way past that time?
peter joseph dares, with some help from his friends, to suggest something other than the ever popular doomday scenario.

Zeitgeist: The Movie - Unrated a educated look at the real world blueprint for taking over the world the old fashioned way. okay, so there are large parts where claims are made and not substantiated and yet and still there's plenty of food for thought here making for an untimately chilling documentary.

To Kill A Mockingbird - Unrated ZOWIE and how! an investigation of a youthful coming of age southern-style, with a twist of racial zenophobia thrown in...it's a big scary world out there, if we let it be...

excellent acting thruout rounds out this absolute must-see!

A Hard Day's Night - G the film that made guitar music cool to the public at large ("...aren't all musicians really just nerds...") and the english, too ("...aren't all of those limeys just fag fucks?..."), if that were possible. the whole world grew it's hair long and men heard a sound few have ever heard live: a woman screaming like she meant it...a dream come true. the gifts of this film are many and varied, but individual as fingerprints to all who see it. untouchable. King Kong - Unrated untouchable...maybe the best sex scene ever filmed when the big guy "fingers" ol' happy-as-she-could-be fay wray March 6, 2009

Sunset Boulevard (Sunset Blvd.) - Unrated bill holden is the new blood of hollywood forced to condescend to entertain one of old hollywood's legends, and lawdy, lawdy, lawdy, how does one tolerate the egotistical ol' shrew? it's the point of view bill wilder only seems to endorse...

wilder's ultimate consideration for killing the younger generation still makes points...hot lead in yer back, punk!

and, but of course, gloria swanson's movie.

The Blues Brothers - R the greatest musical ever made!...and i mean it this time...well, it'll do until one better comes along! unlike the musicals of old in this one nobody looks as if they're trying to get you to like them too hard, and there's the biggest selling point. of course i could mention a cast to die for, music to live for and a car chase so outrageous (in a musical? a car chase? say it ain't so!) you will wear out the rewind button on yer own memory. nobody in this film ever topped this film...EVEN the talented MR. SPIELBERG March 6, 2009

Casablanca - PG does she love him, or that other guy...was she for real back then in paris, did she really love him or...or...just who the fuck is victor lazlo anyway? she lets him know, but he is all too human and insists on hearing the stupid words as well...and it's not until he lies to himself that he "gets it", when he says, "it doesn't take much to see that..." when in fact it's taken him, well, since paris to see. we never really KNOW if anyone ever loves us...we have to trust, and this is maybe the only hollywood movie that leaves us with that...making it perfect. Arsenic and Old Lace - Unrated archie leach goes to doubletake heaven (eh? i didn't know there was one of those...there IS one of those!?!) as the nephew of two "pixelated" aunties with a peculiar solution to societal ills in their basement...it's madness, madness, madness and teddy roosevelt (of THE roosevelts, don't you know) to the rescue while lil ray massey and pete lorre drop by later on to even up ol' adolescent wrongs and do particularly sleazy enough to make robert blake blush. High Noon - Unrated once there was an old story of a guy who loved his friends and loved 'em a lot, and when they were in trouble he decides to help 'em out some, only they are scared. they would rather be miserable and suffer they choose it unbelievably, rather than to help him help them...and so they leave him alone. they leave him...

does he forget about it? does he leave 'em to suffer...or is he true to them? is he true to himself? what does he do?

the jesus story goes west, packs a six gun and waits out alone on main street, alone to face the worst, face the future, whatever it brings...
