Hostel (2006,  R)
Hostel
I don't even know were to start, I thought that Hostel was one of the finest and most daring horror movies to come out in a long time. It just has everything great acting, some of the best directing I have ever seen, and gore, gore, gore. The effects in this where just non stop. You get everything decapitations, ankle slitting, eye balls being taken out of someones skull with a drill it just never ends. The acting was truly fantastic you get strong believable performances from every character. And the directing you just don't get better than this. The way that it was shot was absolute perfection. The camera angles the lighting everything. I also loved the movie poster not to much and not to little just enough to make you intrigued. And the soundtrack, this is some of the best music I have heard in a movie. Bottom line I thought that Hostel was one of the best rawest most daring horror movies to come out since the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and is guaranteed to please any true fan of the horror genre. If you haven't already leave your house right now and go get this.
2
Hostel: Part II (2007,  R)
Hostel: Part II
This is one of the rare cases where the sequel is just as good as the original. Just like the original I couldn't find one bad aspect in this movie. I thought that everything was perfect from the acting, to the directing, and the gore again was non stop and great. You get some of the most grisly scenes in this movie; you get a torture style blood bath (literally), a saw to the head, and one of the most gruesome castrations I have ever seen. The directing was phenomenal I love the way you are never left not knowing what is going on. You get really raw believable performances from the actors. I even loved the poster which surprised me because I read a lot of reviews that said the poster sucked, obviously people who don't know what they are talking about. One of my favorite parts in the Hostel movies is the ending you get jaw dropping I can't believe that I just saw that endings and I love it. Bottom line Hostel 2 is a fantastic sequel to the bloody dream of a movie Hostel and is not to be ignored. Check this one out.
3
Quarantine (2008,  R)
Quarantine
Not since I was five years old and saw Halloween for the first time was there a movie that was actually able to scare me until now. Quarantine had everything great gore, some of the best acting that I have ever seen, and a plot that was truly perfect. I have never liked a movie that was shot in that documentary stye but this shows that it can be done. Starting with the acting, I don't think I have seen this good of acting since the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Jennifer Carpenter blew me away with one of the rawest preformances I have ever seen. The gore was top notch you get non stop all top of the line gore. And the plot was just perfect. I know that this is a remake of the film Rec but somehow the director was able to make this all his own. Like I said before I have never liked a documentary style film but this just blew me away the way that it was shot was perfect. I think that every aspiring film maker needs to watch Rec and then watch this because this was one of the finest pieces of film I have ever seen. If you want a raw, heart pounding movie that leaves you jaw dropped then this is for you. I say do whatever you have to do just check this one out.
4
The Descent (2006,  R)
The Descent
The Decent is a riveting claustrophobic horror film. The effects in this film where top rate. Strong preformances from all of its female cast. Niel Marshall has brillantly created a nightmarish gorefest that doubles as a compelling meditation on morality and what we might do for survival. This movie feeds off of every humans fears, darkness claustophobia, drowning and well being ripped limb by limb by bloodthirsty creatures. The Decent is one of the scariest horror films to date and will test the fears of any one and every one who watches it.
5
Cabin Fever (2002,  R)
Cabin Fever
Cabin Fever is one of those great gut wrenching gore fest movies that takes no prisoners. Managing to shove every aspect of horror into an hour and thirty minutes. Making it a true horror classic. Cabin Fever manages to mix all the great horror ingredients together without going overboard and making a believable story, with gore by the tons, tension, sex, and did I mention gore I would say Cabin Fever is a must get and trust me you will be getting your moneys worth.
6
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974,  R)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
This was made way before its time and thats what makes it so brilliant. Its a timeless horror film because no matter what year it is you can always picture yourself in the position of these kids. In my opinion this made Tobe Hooper a true master of horror for being daring, brave, and smart enough to make it. One of the best horror movies to date.
7
Scream (1996,  R)
Scream
Scream is one of my favorite Wes Craven films. It might look like just another cheap slasher movie but Scream is all original. Plot is pretty basic a serial killer targetting teens. But somehow the simple white ghost mask is petrifing. Gore wise this movie thrives more on suspense but the mild gore is very well done. Acting was great. And the cinima photgraphy that Wes used was perfect. I would say that if you have not yet go and check this one out now!!

When a Stranger Calls (2006,  PG-13)
When a Stranger Calls
Ive read alot of reviews saying that this is one of the worst remakes ever made and in my opinion its one of the best. The 2006 When a stranger calls is a remake off of a 1979 horror-thriller. Simon West managed to make a really suspenseful horror movie without making a mockery out of the original film. It makes its audience jump right along with the lead charecter. When a Stranger Calls is a very charecter driven horror movie. Thriving on suspense and good acting more than any actual gore. But still manages to scare you and keep your eyes glued to the screen through out the whole movie. I would say to overlook all those negative reviews for this film. And deffenitly check this one out.
30
When a Stranger Calls Back (1993,  R)
When a Stranger Calls Back

Cry Wolf (2005,  PG-13)
33
Cry Baby (1990,  PG-13)
34
Wolf Creek (2005,  R)
Wolf Creek
Wolf Creek has to be one of the most disappointing movies that I have ever seen. I went into this one expecting a good movie, after reading many reviews claiming just that. But they were wrong, so wrong. Ok, so the plot is based around these three friends that go on a road trip to Wolf Creek in Australia only to be hunted down by a serial killer. It might sound boring, lame, and like movies that you have seen a million times before, and let me tell you why, because it is. You spend the first hour, yes 60 minutes watching drunken kids partying. Pointless, absolutely pointless. Acting, I hated it; you get stereotypical performances from the entire cast, and nothing at all noteworthy. Gore, if you are able to sit through the film long enough to make it to the gore scenes you get, bloody gunshot wounds, cut off fingers, mangled body's, knife through the back, broken limbs, and a bit more. Now although this might sound rather good and like it might be worth the hour long wait, trust me it's not. Soundtrack, I don't remember one. The only thing that I even remotely enjoyed about this movie was the visuals. The imagery and cinamaphotography that you get in this is exquisite. So even though all you'll see is pointless nonsense, it will be well shot pointless nonsense. I hated the way this one played out; after it got going I predicted what was going to happen every step of the way. You spend the majority of the second hour watching 2 girls be tortured, and then the guy just wakes up and walks away, what the Hell is that? Oh and that "based on true events" that you read on the poster is a bunch of crap. Never has this happened, and speaking of the poster again, what were they thinking? That is the perfect name for this movie, what were they thinking. What were the stupid characters thinking when they did some of the air head things that they were doing. What were the makers thinking as they shot it, and what was the studio thinking when they bought it? Bottom line, Wolf Creek has to be one of the most unoriginal, pointless, and just plain boring movies that I have ever seen. Be warned this movie (if you can call it that) should be avoided at all costs. I say skip it, do whatever you have to do and just skip it.
35

House of Wax (2005,  R)
39
House of 1000 Corpses (2003,  R)
House of 1000 Corpses
House Of 1000 Corpses is a sick and twisted depraved horror film. But is one of the best movies ever made. Let me tell you why Rob Zombie has managed to put together the brutality of The Texas Chainsaw Massacure with the genius of
Hostel. But still managing to make it unique and all original. Making it a legendary cult classic. It mixes great elements of horror a sophisticated story line, great acting, blood, guts, and gore.
If you have a queezy stomach then this is not the film for you. Rob Zombies brilliance shines through in this horrific blood bath of a movie. I would say definitly check this movie out.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose
This movie has nothing on The Exorcist. The movie is baced off of the court proceedings and the only "Exorcism" that you get to see is in flash backs. So once you actually start to get into the movie they'll cut back to the courtroom making a possibly good movie rather boring. I would stay clear of this one.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997,  R)
I Know What You Did Last Summer
I Know What you Did Last Summer reminded me of those great 1980 slasher films. With such a basic revenge plot and a fisherman serial killer I do not know how this movie was able to be as good as it was but I found it to be a really good flashback to the 80's. Now even though I was not around in the 80's I am still a fan of the era. I know what you did Last Summer was a uniqe revenge story with plenty of twists. The acting was top noch and the gore was outstanding (Who knew you could do so much with a fish hook?). I would say that this is a must have in any horror colection. If you are in the mood for an original 80's style horror movie then check this one out.

Unrest (2006,  R)
Unrest
Unrest is one of the original movies from the first Afterdark Horrorfest, and perhaps one of the best. Ok, the plot is based around a medical student who has an eerie feeling about her team's cadaver. So she starts to look into the woman's history, only to find out that there is this curse tied to body's that have been "disrespected". And her team's cadaver is one of those bodie's, and she is hell bent on killing anyone who has disrespected her body. So the concept of the film is obviously interesting, and the way it is executed was actually really good. Now I went into this knowing that it was a low budget horror movie, so I didn't expect much, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The acting, could have been better you get reasonably good performances from the lead cast, but nothing noteworthy. Gore, not as much as I was expecting but what they did have was rather good. You get a ton of cadavers. Ones with their legs cut off, others with their chest ripped open. Other than that you get mild blood. Soundtrack, lots of moody music, loud drums ect.. but nothing really memorable. One thing I do want to give the makers credit for is the poster. Very cool, creepy, and original. Bottom line Unrest is one of the better films to be released from the original Afterdark Horrorfest. Although the acting is second rate the plot and cool cadaver shots make up for that. I recommend you check this one out.

The Cottage (2008,  Unrated)
The Cottage
I went into The Cottage expecting a fairly good horror comedy, but what I got was a very bad want to be horror comedy. So the plot is based around two brothers who have kidnapped this girl and taken her to a cottage in the woods, soon after everything starts to go wrong the woman is a foul mouthed wretched person, and their accomplice is a moron who doesn't know what he is doing, the ransom turned out to be tissues, there are two Korean hit men after them, and a deformed farmer has come to the decision that he wants their heads on a platter. Ok I knew going into this that it was a horror comedy, but to be honest it wasn't funny. The jokes are lame, the actors were too good to be funny, and the killer was so silly that it took the funny right out of him and into ridiculous. Actually the only thing that was truly funny about this movie was the soundtrack, you get some of the most idiotic music I have ever heard, that doesn't go with the story line and doesn't fit in right at all. Another thing that made this movie un-enjoyable was the starting time. I swear it took forever to get to any point and for the first 10 minutes there was no talking, I actually thought it was going to be a silent movie. As for acting, you get much better acting than this film deserves or needs for that matter. You get Andy Sekis as David the older brother who isn't exactly mean but not exactly nice either, as well as Reece Shearsmith playing the dorky little brother with a severe case of mottephobia. A really nice cast that could do a lot better than this. Gore, while the film does deliver when it comes to gore, it took so long to get to any gore that by the time it got there you really didn't care anymore. So you get a shovel through the head, a slit throat, a foot cut in half, broken nose, a machete through the stomach, pick axe through the les, and some guts. All and all not bad but still was just too late in the game to matter. I'm not really sure if you could call The Cottage a horror-comedy for there really wasn't any comedy. At best this is a mediocre slasher flick, that doesn't know exactly what it wants to be. Bottom line I found The Cottage to be boring, unoriginal, unsure, and all and all a bad movie. I say skip this generic played out want to be horror comedy, it's just not worth the time or money.

Resident Evil (2002,  R)
Resident Evil
Resident Evil is a great adaptation from video game to big screen hit. It mixes the perfect amount of violence, blood, and action to make an A-List horror film. I have to say that I am a huge fan of the video game so I was nervous when they announced that they were making it into a movie. So I didnt go in with high expectations. So I was deffenitly suprised with the outcome. Wich was a great zombie movie with superb acting and some of the best effects that I've sen in a long time. I would deffenitly recommend any one who likes blood, violence, and zombies to check this movie out.

Slither (2006,  R)
Slither
Slither is one of those great throw back to the 80's horror movies. That includes cooky charecters, cheesy dialogue, 2nd rate effects, and loads of gore. But succseeds in keeping its viewers glued to the screen. In no way shape or form is Slither an "Original" movie but it is extremely entertaining. Giving you gore by the tons and a couple laughs along the way. This is not the movie for those with a delicate stomach. So if you want a cheesy, gory, good time then I would definitly check this one out.
283
Day of the Dead (2008,  R)
Day of the Dead
This is one of the worst horror remakes I have ever seen. Ok before I start saying everything bad that was in the film and let me tell you theres alot, lets start with some good. It had resonable effects. Yep thats it and they wernt great effects just resonable. Ok and here comes the bad things, horrible acting, terrible plot nothing like the original, sucky directing, and the zombies could climb up walls and hop. Yes hop like frogs. You have to wonder if this director said ok I want to see how bad of a movie I could make. I personally loved the original Day of the Dead. But this exept for the name is a compleatly diffrent movie. Day of the dead had decent gore but nothing to write home about and not worth the price that this DVD would cost to get. I would have to say STAY AWAY from this movie trust me its not worth it.

P2 (2007,  R)
P2
Ive read alot of reviews saying that this was a horrible movie, and it wasn't. P2 was a well made movie with plenty of gore, and suspense. The plot was belivable and well written, and it had top notch acting. Now don't get me wrong here P2 wasn't a masterpiece it had its flaws just like most horror films, but thats what made it belivable. I think the "Horror" thats in this film is the same that was in Jaws the fear that it could happen to you. Its so easy to picture yourself in this womans position. It got dull at some points but that didnt last long. P2 is a suspense, thriller, with some gore. So its a great movie for any horror fan. I would say to check this one out.

Turistas (Paradise Lost) (2006,  R)
Turistas (Paradise Lost)
I have to say that this is one of my favorite horror movies to date. It deserved alot more credit that it got. Lets start with the plot, unique, originall, and very captivating. Gore was deffinitly there. From just hitting your head on a rock to having your organs harvested piece by piece. Acting was great. Just like any film there was some bad parts. It took a little while to get to the plot, but not to long. And once you get there trust me it is worth it. Turistas is an intense horror-thriller that is gurenteed to keep you on the edge of your seat. I would recomend this film to anyone who is looking for an edgy all original horror film. Check this one out.
291
Shutter (2008,  PG-13)
Shutter
When I went into seeing this movie I had really low expectations, due to all the bad reviews that it had gotten. But I have to say that it was no that bad. Now I'm not saying that it's one of the best horror films. But most definitly not the worst. It was not in any way a "Bloody" movie. This one was leveled more on suspense and tension, and it really is suspense. This one will leave you on the edge of your seat through out the whole movie. Still like any movie it had it's faults. It was a bit slow pased and the acting was not to good at least not on the male half of the spectrum. But all around Shutter was a really well made all around good supernatural horror film. And the ending is a must see, one of the best. Now I know that Shutter was a remake, but it was a danm good one, at least when it's put up against some of the crap remakes we have out now. "Prom Night, April Fools Day". So I would say check this one out.
292
Lakeview Terrace (2008,  PG-13)
Lakeview Terrace
I found Lakeview Terrace to be a very good movie. The plot was a little unoriginal but the movie as a whole a classic all in its own. So the plot centers around Abel a cop who plays by his own rules and Chris and Lisa a just married couple that moved into his neighborhood. From there on things spiral downhill. Ok like I said the plot has been done before but the way the it was exucuted was great. It kept you on the edge of the seat and jaw dropped throughout the whole movie. Also the end was phenominal. Lakeview Terrace was an on the edge of your seat action drama that wont dissapoint, and teaches people when looking for a house check out the neighbors first. I would say check this one out.
293
City of Ember (2008,  PG)
City of Ember
I Loved the novel so I am so excited to see the movie. I just hope that they don't make a mochary out of it.
294
Awake (2007,  R)
Awake
Awake is one of the best phycological thrillers that I've seen all year! The acting was phenominal and the plot was fantastic. It even had some gore. This movie could have easily been dreadful but the way that it was executed made it a intelligent horror film with plot twists and turns that leave you jaw dropped. If you want a smart horror movie that will leave you guessing then I would say check this one out.
295
Wanted (2008,  R)
Wanted
I do not know where to start I thought that Wanted was a fantastic film. The effects wher great I was very happy with the amount of blood that this film contained. The acring was some of the best I have seen in a long while. And the action scenes where brilliant. But like any great film it had its flaws for me it was the music. I was expecting some great high energy soundtrack to go along with these fast pase scenes and it just was'nt there, none the less Wanted lived up to it's claim as a high action thrillride and was a very nice change of pase. I would say check this one out.
296
Black Christmas (2006,  R)
Black Christmas
I was not expecting much when I went into this because I read alot of reviews that said that it was awful, but I have to say that it was not that bad. Now don't get me wrong it was no where near as good as the original. But comared to some of the remakes wev'e had out latley (Prom Night, April Fools Day, The Omen, just to name a few) this was actually quite refreshing. The gore in this is done very well and is quite enjoyable. The acting is just wreched as is the dialogue. But I do not know there is somthing about this movie that is just plain good. I would say to check this one out but be sure not to miss the original.
297
Feast (2005,  R)
Feast
I do not even know where to start about Feast. There was alot to love but it was meant with an equel amount of stuff to hate. Let start right off the bat by saying Feast is a Horror-Comedy so any one looking foe a serious ground breaking horror film this is so not for you. Some things that I didn't like about the film where first of all the dialouge. While some people might find it funny I found it to make no sense and just make the movie seem cheap. Another thing that I hated about this movie was the acting I meen are there any ligit actors out there anymore? The third thing was this was just trying to be somthing that it was not. It tried to take this no holds bar aproch where anyone could die. But it did not live up to it 15 minutes in I knew who was safe and who wasn't. So how can this get 3 1/2 stars you ask. Like I said it was ment in the middle. This movie has some of the best gore that I have ever seen. You name it this one has it. And the monsters were perfect. So I would recomend for a highly enjoyable Horror-Comedy just sit back and enjoy the show it will either leave wanting more or saying why the heck did I just endore that. Either way I say check it out.
298
Timber Falls (2007,  R)
Timber Falls
I went into Timber Falls expecting a gore fest and that is exactly what I got. It took me a long time to get my hands on this DVD and I have to say that it was worth the wait. With blood, great acting, hillbillies with sickles, and fantastic effects Timber Falls was my pick for the best slasher film of 07. Like I was saying the gore in this was great you get everything from whips, to being stapped in the head with a cross. And the plot though at distance does not sound original trust me after you watch this you will see the originality shine through. I would recomend this movie to anyone looking for a bloody twisted movie. Check this one out.
299
Storm Warning (2007,  R)
Storm Warning
I thought that if you ignored the unoriginality then Storm Warning was rather good. Like I said it lacked any original thought but if you sit back and don't think about it I think that you might enjoy yourself. But beware it takes a while to get to any of the goods. But after you get there you'll see why it was worth the wait, With great gore, crazy deaths and on key acting I would say check this one out. Just don't expect anything new.
300
Dawn of the Dead (2004,  R)
Dawn of the Dead
I thought that well yes it was a great remake and much better than alot of the PG-13 rip off's that we have seen latley it still in my opinion did not live up to it's hype. I have read some reviews saying that it was even better than the original (impossible) so I was expecting this amazing movie and it was just not cutting it. I did not care for the acting at all. And it was trying to compeate with one of the greatest horror movies in history and quite frankly paled in comparison. I was also way to funny. I did not walk in expecting a Horror-Comedy but thats what I got. I think that they had really good aspects and could have made this really intense movie but instead ruined it with mindless humor. And the ending that just ruined it for me (Those of you who have seen the movie know what I'm talking about. Those of you who haven't you'll see what I meen) .The only saving grace for this was the effex. The CGI and gore where fantastic in this. I also really liked the music that they used. It had a great pase and really kept up with the plot. I would say if you are in the mood for a well made remake with great gore and pointless humor then check this one out. If not then rent the original.
301
30 Days of Night (2007,  R)
30 Days of Night
I thought that 30 Days of Night did not in any way live up to it's hype. I meen it's a good movie. But not the best vampire movie ever made or the best of 07. It's just a well made vampire movie. Some of the things that I didn't like about this movie was one it's acting. There was not one good actor in this entire film. The preformances were dull and lacked any talent. Number two sadly the movie did not live up to the novel's. I am a big fan of the 30 Days of night series and I have to say that the books where 10 times better than the movie. Number three, although it really doesn't have anything to do with the movie persay the movie poster royaly sucked and you know what they say the poster is a reflection off of the movie. Now some things that
I liked about the film where first of all it's gore, I thought that the effex in this where fantastic. I also loved the way this was shot. It was shot in a very cryptic dark fashion which I have to say was one of the only things about this movie that reminded me of the books. I also loved the look of the vampires. The eyes and teeth where done so well. So bottom line 30 Days of Night while yes is a good movie is also highly forgetable and will eventually fade away. I would say that if you are looking for a great adaptation of the book then walk away. But if you have never read the books then check it out.
302
Arachnophobia (1990,  PG-13)
Arachnophobia
While it sadly took second to alot of the slasher films that where released in the 90's I found Arachnophobia to be one of the best arachnoid movies ever made. While there was some cheesy dialouge for some reason it seemed to work and make this all the more enjoyable. The acting although in some parts could have used a little work as a whole was great. And the effects where top notch the animatronic spiders that they used where so realistic. I also loved the way this movie was shot the use of shadow and light was just perfect. There was no actual gore in this but you won't even notice, and this was one of the very, very few cases in a horror film where it didn't actually need it. The atmosphere was again perfect. I would recomend Arachnophobia to anyone looking for a near perfect spider movie. If you haven't already go check this one out!
303
Frontière(s) (Frontier(s)) (2007,  NC-17)
Frontière(s) (Frontier(s))
I thought that Frontiere's was an amazing movie. I don't know where to start. The gore, was just unstopable. You get everything in this from gun shots to people being gutted. The effex where just amazing. Another thing was the acting. I have been asking myself lately are there any true actors left. And this movie answers my question. The acting was truly perfect. I was also really happy with the way that this was shot. The scenery and the lighting all worked out perfect. The music that was used also was done well. Another thing was the movie poster, one of the best I've ever seen. It doesn't give away the movie but still leaves you intrigued. But like any movie there was some bad. For me it was the fact that this was released around the same time Hostel 2 was and kind of reminded me of it. Don't get me wrong the plots are compleatly diffrent but still for some reason they were similar to me. It also reminded me of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And it is never good when one movie reminds you of two others. Lastly it took a tad to long to get to the actual story. But trust me it's worth the wait, and after it gets going it does not stop. I recommend this to anyone looking for a great bloody, brutal, torture movie. But not for any one with a soft stomach. Check this one out.
304
Wrong Turn 2: Dead End (2007,  Unrated)
Wrong Turn 2: Dead End
I do not understand what people see in this movie. I meen as a stand alone film it might have been good but as a sequel to Wrong Turn it just did not keep up. There was just so much bad in this movie. Let me just start off by saying that this is a Horror-Comedy so if you are expecting the same depth and atmosphere of Wrong Turn then walk away. The acting was just awful. There were no likeable charecters. And the plot I meen can we say generic. Reality show gone awry, lost in the woods with mutant cannabils. That has been done how many times. I also thought that this was just trying to be somthing that it was not. It tried to have the rawness of The 05 Hills Have Eyes remake. But all that it did was look like a cheap generic Horror-Comedy, that only gave you stuff you've already seen a million times. I will give it this the gore was fantastic. It was bloody and hardcore, in my opinion that was the only thing that was worth watching in this movie. If you are in the mood for a pointless Horror-Comedy with great gore check this one out. If not check out the original.
305
Eden Lake (2008,  R)
Eden Lake
I thought that Eden Lake could have been much better than it was. Now it is hard to describe this film without giving away the movie but I'll give it my best shot. So it is based around a couple who go on this weekend getaway into the woods. Only to be met by this group of hoodlums who start to terrorize them in unimaginable ways after the couple accidentally kills there dog. I know it sounds pretty generic but somehow Eden Lake is like nothing you have ever seen before. Lets start with the good. First off the acting. I have to say this is some of the finest acting that I have seen in a long time. From both sides of the spectrum. The actors that play the kid hoodlums let me tell you they make you believe that they actually do this sort of thing as a past time. The gore was fantastic. A simple stab wound was terrifying. But if you are expecting "new" in this category you won't get it, its just good gore of things that we have seen a million times before. Don't get me wrong here the way that it is done and who does it will make it seem new. The bad. I have to say that the only thing that I really found bad about this movie was the ending, and to be honest I'm not sure about it. It was up in the air to one extent you kind of were expecting it. But to another you thought that Eden Lake was so raw and genius that they would give you something you were not expecting. (After you watch this you'll know what I mean). So bottom line Eden Lake was a very good bloody, smart movie that gave you a completely new original version of evil kiddie movies. The ending is up for discussion, but with what I have seen I say check it out.

El Rey de la montaña (King of the Hill) (2007,  R)

Dark Floors (2008,  R)
Dark Floors
I have been waiting to see Dark Floors since I first got word of it. I was so excited when it finally got a US release date with the Ghost House Underground line up but all that it managed to do was make me feel like an idiot for ever showing any interest in it. I had so much hope that this was going to be a bloody creepy, new original movie but all this was, was a bunch of morons being chased around by what apears to be some heavily made up rock band members. I meen come on. The actors where at best 3rd rate. No likeable charecters I was praying that they would kill off William Hopes charecter all through the first act and by the second I was down on my knees. You get no real blood and most of the deaths are off screen. So they basically just threw out there only saving grace. And talk about plot holes I had no clue what was going on. They are not on an alternate plane they are frozen they are this and that I think that the writers said just throw in anything and everything that you can think of and let's see what we get, and I'll tell you what they got a two hour long bunch of nothing that failed to do anything other than make me want to write a hate letter to the director and fall asleep. I dare you to watch this and find one good aspect in it. I thought that Dark floors was nothing but a waste of time and money. I say do whatever you have to do to skip this.

Bug (2006,  R)
Bug
This was one of the most boring, bland, and plain dreadful movies that I have ever seen. I don't know where to start I don't think that there was one good aspect in this movie. The plot two crazy people think the goverment has put bugs in them. Thats it and for the next two hours you are stuck watching them run around a motel room with foil. There was no gore you get one scene were the lead guy yanks out his tooth. But I was so bored that I hardly even noticed. The acting was just awful. I think that this movie played itself to be somthing that it wasn't. People expected to go in and get this great movie about killer bugs and they didn't, then they expected to get this phycological thriller that left them wanting more and again they didn't, And what else is left. They would have been better off making a killer bug movie than this. I hated everything about this from the plot, to the acting, the gore, the music, and the poster everything sucked. I say do whatever you have to do to skip this.

Ghost Son (2006,  Unrated)
Ghost Son
I thought that there was a lot to like and a lot to not like about Ghost Son. The plot: A young couple Stacey and Mark move to Africa Mark gets into a fatal car accident. Shortly after his death Stacey discovers that she is pregnant with his child. Soon after the birth she discovers that her son is possessed by Mark who is trying to kill her. The plot was very interesting and all around creepy. I thought that it could have been played out much better. Watching the movie you see some moments that they could have shocked you or made you jump that where just missed. The acting was played perfectly. And the effex although there are not really much blood the scenes with the baby are so real and where done perfectly. But like I said I think that the plot could have been carried out much better than it was. This also could have used more fall back gore. But as an overall film it succeeds in being a creepy little ghost story that gives you a new take on evil kiddie movies. I say it's worth a check or at least a rent.

Hit and Run (2009,  R)
Hit and Run
I thought that Hit and Run was a great low budget horror movie. What really stood out to me is that even though the plot seems ridiculous. A college student hits a man and didn't realize it until she heard him in the garage later that night. I know like I said it sounds ridiculous but somehow McCallion made it seem so realistic. But most of the credit goes to the acting. In low budget you usually see really bad acting and really good gore but in this beauty you get them both. Don't get me wrong it was not a full on gore fest but the gore that it did have was pretty good. I also loved the poster/cover art that they used on this. One of the only things that you will really find wrong in this movie was that at some points it got really slow paced, but they made up for it with allot of action for a full ten minutes. I also didn't like the music that they used in some parts of the film it reminded me of 1960's the Adam's Family music. But all and all Hit and Run delivers. So if you are in the mood for a charming low budget horror film with good gore and good acting I say check this one out.

Shrooms (2008,  Unrated)
Shrooms
Shrooms to me was surprisingly original. And even more surprising to me was that it wasn't silly. Wich I have to say was kind of what I was expecting I meen it's a movie baced around kids going to Ireland to get high off of magic mushrooms. But somehow this director found a way to make it a actually really good horror movie. He could have gone in a million diffrent directions with this movie but chose to go the direction that no one was expecting him to go. Wich is what made this movie into somthing that kept your eyes glued to the screen and made you jump right along with the charecters. Shrooms had a good amount of blood and had pretty decent acting. All and all I have to say I extreamly enjoyed watching Shrooms, And it's definitly worth a check.

Freakdog (Red Mist) (2009,  Unrated)
Freakdog (Red Mist)
Red Mist (Freakdog) has to be one of the best movies to come out of 09 so far. Ok so the plot is based around this group of medical students who go out to party one night, and while partying decide to humiliate a loser by making him do a Freakdog. After he does it he collapses and the students rather than risk losing future employment or their current scholarships decide to just drop him off outside of the hospital. The next morning they find he's in a coma and soon guilt takes over one and she injects him with an experimental drug that is supposed to bring coma patients back. Well it brings him back, just not in the way that she had imagined. Soon he is taking form of all of her friends and picking them off one by one can she stop him before he gets his revenge on them all? I know it may sound a bit done, but this movie was all original. The way that the plot played out was perfect, and a nice twist from the stereotypical possession movies that we've been seeing a lot of lately. Starting with the acting, you get great performances from the entire lead cast. And a reasonably good performance from Sarah Carter who made a nice comeback after that disaster of a performance from Skin Walkers. Gore, you get a ton of the red stuff in this one, arm and wrist cutting, someone beaten to death, guts, someone being brutally run over by a car, and a really cool chemical swallowing seen. Soundtrack, a decent score. Not anything memorable, but nothing to awful. Two problems with this one, problem number one the poster, can we say generic? Problem number two the name change at last minute. Ok I don't know about a lot of you, but I have been waiting to see this one for quite a while and for the longest time the name was Freakdog. Then out of no where they change it to Red Mist. I don't even know were they got the title, I think they just pulled it out of the sky because it has nothing to do with the movie. Bottom line even with a couple of marketing flaws, Red Mist (Freakdog) is still a great supernatural slasher film that delivers in most if not all aspects. I say if you haven't already go check this one out.

Skinwalkers (2007,  PG-13)
Skinwalkers
Sometimes I wonder if some of the writers and directors make these movies just to torture me. Skinwalkers was one of the dullest biggest time wasters I've seen latley. There was no gore none you get a couple mild very mild scenes. The plot was just plain stupid I didn't even know what was happening half of the time. The directing was just bad. The music was nothing to write home about. The acting was not as bad as you would expect it to be. But you could have put every A-List actor on the face of the planet in this and I don't think it would be enough to save it. The only thing that I liked about this was the movie poster. The only word that I can think of to describe this movie is bad just bad. I say do whatver you have to do just skip this.

The Zombie Diaries (2007,  Unrated)
The Zombie Diaries
I don?t even know were to start I thought that The Zombie Diaries was a waste of film. Now the plot was my big problem mainly because there was no plot. A zombie apocalypse that?s it nothing else. The acting was just a joke; it was obvious that they didn?t know what they were doing. I also hate the way that this was shot. If you are expecting that raw documentary feel like you got in Rec then you are so wrong. I think that they just bought a 50$ camera and said let?s see what we can do. The music was good when it was used but for the main part of the movie there is no music just awkward silence. Frankly this movie was the most expensive sleeping pill that I have ever bought. The only reasonably good part of this movie was the gore. But there was hardly any you might get 4 good 3 second scenes through out the whole film. I also hated how misleading this movie was. Now ever since I saw Welcome to the Jungle I have not had that much faith in the Dimension Extreme line. But the DVD/cover art that they used in this was very good, and very misleading so I was not prepared for the suck-fest that I got. The Zombie Diaries is a sorry excuse for a movie and should be avoided at all costs I say Skip it.

Resident Evil - Apocalypse (2004,  R)
Resident Evil - Apocalypse
I thought that Resident Evil Apocalypse was much better for fans of the Resident Evil video games than the original Resident Evil. The first Resident Evil all though yes was a great stand alone movie didn't capture the video game feel to me like this one did. The gore was less than I would have liked. I personally think that they should have done a lot more in the blood department then they did but what they did have wasn't that bad. The acting was one of my favorite things about this film. I am a huge fan of Milla Jovovich and I thought that she nailed the character Alice perfectly. The cinema photography was decent but could have been a lot better the camera spun a lot for my taste. But I am so happy that they didn't do that cheap trick where they cut to the video game during one of the action sequences like they did in House of the Dead, and Doom. One of the only things that I actually didn't like was the poster. It just looks like it was made by a freshman high school student on a lap top during lunch period. Other than that I thought that Resident Evil Apocalypse was a good fun zombie movie with some really good action sequences. I say check it out.

Jason X (2002,  R)
Jason X
I read reviews that said this was the worst Jason movie made and that it was the worst movie ever made and I have to say I don't know what they were talking about. I found Jason X to be yes a little out there for A Friday the 13th sequel but still a fun gory pleasure. The acting was typical for a slasher movie you get a few solid performances from the lead characters and a bunch of crap from everyone else. The gore is some of the best that I have seen in a Jason movie. You get everything here from a face being shattered, decapitations, and many many limbs falling off non stop here. The plot like I said was a little out there but still worked. And the soundtrack I have to say this is one of my favorite movie soundtracks. The only thing that I didn't like about this was the poster I do not know what they were thinking. Bottom line Jason X kept at a good pace had phenomenal gore, reasonable acting, and was very enjoyable. I say if you like the Friday the 13th series lighten up and enjoy this outrageous sequel. Worth a check.

Red Mist (,  Unrated)
Red Mist
I found Freakdog to be one of the best so far out of 09. Now I have been waiting for this one for a long time and have been very excited about it so I was really hoping that the filmmakers would not disappoint, and they didn't. The plot and the way that it was executed was all original. The acting was really good witch surprised me because I really hated Sarah Carters performance in SkinWalkers. I also really enjoyed the gore that they had it's not a total blood bath but I don't think that it lacked any blood. I loved the way that this was shot as well the cinema photography was top notch. The only thing that I would have changed is that I would have kept the name at Freakdog witch they had it at for the longest time. I don't even know were they got Red Mist from. But all and all I loved this movie and it is definitely worth a check.

My Bloody Valentine (1981,  R)
My Bloody Valentine
First of all I am reviewing the uncut addition that came out this year that the MPAA didn't get to put their claws into. And if you ask "Whats the difference"? Let me tell you there is a huge difference. My Bloody Valentine definitely fell into the typical 80's slasher category but in my opinion its extensive use of top notch effects made it so much better. Yes, in this you get gore non stop top of the line gore. The acting was surprisingly good. Usually in a low budget movie if you get really good gore you get bottom of the barrel acting this movie shows that you can have both phenomenal gore and good acting. But other than the gore one of my favorite aspects of this movie was the way that it was shot. The cinema photography in this was perfect. And of course it can't go without being said that My Bloody Valentine has one of the coolest slasher movie killers to date. The gas mask and the mining axe are simply perfection. The only thing that I disliked about this was it had a few slow moments. But in my opinion its worth a few slow moments. If you are ready to see one of the best slasher movies to make it out of the 80's then go get this one. Definitely worth a check.

Flight of the Living Dead: Outbreak on a Plane (Plane Dead) (2007,  Unrated)
Flight of the Living Dead: Outbreak on a Plane (Plane Dead)
I went into this not expecting much at all and I guess I was in a really good mood that day because I really liked this movie. Don't get me wrong it this wouldn?t make it in my must see category but it definitely shouldn't be over looked. The acting was surprisingly good you get solid performances from the lead cast. The cast in general is typical you can pick out in the beginning who will live and who will die. The CGI rocked for a low budget movie like this was. You get good gore from start to finish. The zombies were not half bad the neon yellow contacts were a bit much but that?s very easy to overlook. What really shocked me was that this movie was able to keep a really steady pace. I wasn't sure with the whole air plane scenario how they would be able to, but somehow they did. I say that Flight of the Living Dead was one of the better straight to DVD zombie flicks that I've seen. Worth a check.

Sl8n8 (Slaughter Night) (2006,  Unrated)
Sl8n8 (Slaughter Night)
I thought that Slaughter Night was a pretty decent horror movie. You get juvenile acting just like in any low budget horror movie. The gore was minimal all that you get is a couple of very bloodless scenes. So if your asking where the decent movie part comes in it's all in the suspense. You get a few suspenseful scenes. In typical slasher movie form the characters begin to turn on each other after the killing starts this actually gives you a few intense moments. The plot is hard to describe without giving it away but lets just say that it is a typical, predictable plot. I knew who was safe from the moment I sat down. Bottom line if you are expecting one of those non stop gore fest of a movie that the French have been releasing here lately then skip this one the gore here is hardly existent. But for a reasonably suspenseful French horror flick check this out.

Fritt vilt (Cold Prey) (2006,  Unrated)
Fritt vilt (Cold Prey)
I had mixed feelings about Cold Prey. While yes it was one of the better slasher films to make it to DVD it still just seemed like that typical teenage movie. The acting was great. You get strong believable performances from the entire cast. The gore was minimal you get a few good shots of a broken leg, some minor blood splatter and that's about it. The killer in this movie had one pretty mean axe so I think they should have done a lot more blood then they did. But one of my favorite parts of this movie was the atmosphere. You get great tension and it just plays out extremely well. I also really loved the soundtrack. You get some very creepy music that seems to move the film along at parts were you really need it. But what I really didn't like was the gaps of time between each kill or how long it took to get there in the first place. I felt like I was waiting forever. I also didn't like the plot I mean the whole trapped in the middle of the mountains is kind of intriguing if you have a good background story for the murderer. But in this all that you get is some half ass I could have come up with this in my sleep background. Another thing that I didn't like was the ending. It was very juvenile. I think that the directors just said "well I don't know what to do next so let's cut to the credits". Bottom line I thought that Cold Prey had very high potential but lost me with its lack of thought. I say check it out at your own risk, but be warned there is no guarantee on this one.

Resident Evil: Extinction (2007,  R)
Resident Evil: Extinction
I love horror movies that switch it up a bit and puts lots of action in with their gore, and that's exactly what this did. You get plenty of action sequences and plenty of gore to go with it. The acting was perfect in this other than one unneeded disaster of a performance by Ashanti. I have said it before and I will say it again I am a huge fan of Milla Jovoich and she blew it out of the ball park in this. Another thing that I really enjoyed in this was how much it reminded me of the video game. Don't get me wrong here it's not a play by play of the Resident Evil games but it still gives you that atmosphere that reminds you of the game. I really liked the directing and cinema photography. Some of the shots of Vegas were pretty cool. One of the only things that I would have changed in this was the soundtrack. I think that they could have picked much better music to go along with the action scenes. But regardless of the hardly there soundtrack Resident Evil Extinction was a perfect ad to the Resident Evil series. It highlights the video game in all the right ways and even those of you who haven't played the game will still definitely be able to enjoy the movie. Check this one out.

The Serpent and the Rainbow (1987,  R)
The Serpent and the Rainbow
In my opinion the Serpent and the Rainbow was one of the best zombie movies to date. Here's why, now I don't know about you but the actual concept of zombies being created by a nuclear attack or as weapons for the government seems just a little far fetched cool just far fetched. But in this it is all believable, and is enough to turn the zombie franchise on its head. You get pretty good gore here not a lot but a decent amount. The acting was very good you get solid performances from the lead cast and one unbelievable performance from Bill Pullman. The soundtrack could have been better but it's not bad at all. I wish that they would have made it at a faster pace, there were some times that it got a little dull. But in my opinion the plot the acting and the directing made up for that. The director was none other than Wes Craven and for those of you who only know Wes from A Nightmare on Elm Street you need to go get Last House on the Left (the original) and then this. The Serpent and the Rainbow is one of the best if not the best zombie movie I have ever seen I say check it out.

2001 Maniacs (2005,  R)
2001 Maniacs
Right off the bat, if you're looking for a hardcore serious horror film don't get this. But if you want a cheesy, gory, just plain fun movie then I would highly recommend that you check this one out. Like I said the movie is cheesy you get a mediocre plot and really bad southern accents from the entire cast. Starting with the plot it's basically about a bunch of kids that get stuck in a town inhabited by southern ghosts who hate Yankees and want revenge. The acting was typical you get a lot of amateurs who don't know what they are doing, all except for one memorable performance from Robert Englund. The dialogue was very cheesy but it just made the movie all the more enjoyable. The gore was fantastic you get a head smashed open, severed limbs, guts, a decapitation, and one pretty awesome impalement definitely some good stuff. I also rather enjoyed the ending it contains really good gore and gives you something that you weren't expecting. Bottom line 2001 Maniacs is a fun, raunchy, gory, movie that definitely leaves you fulfilled. I say lighten up and check this one out.

Boogeyman 3 (2008,  Unrated)
Boogeyman 3
I had mixed thoughts about this one. I went in with very low expectations because they changed the director from Jeff Bentancourt who directed Boogeyman 2 which I was a very big fan of to Gary Jones who has only worked on cheap Sifi movies. Although the film was not as bad as I thought it would be, it still did not keep up with the previous installments of the Bogeyman series. The acting really sucked you get mediocre performances from the entire cast. The gore I hoped would be a lot better than it was all that you get is one body breaking scene, a shot of a rib cage, and a lot of blood. Just blood covering the walls the floors, I actually think that they had gallons of artificial blood lying around and said well we have nothing else to do with it let's throw it all over the place and see what we get. I was not a fan of the directing it was a bit to dicey for me. And the Boogeyman I do not know what they were thinking, it was obvious throughout the whole film that he was nothing but cheap animation. But gladly the film did have some decent aspects including the soundtrack. I thought the music that they chose was right on track and fell in with the atmosphere of the movie, needless to say if this was a good movie that would be a nicer complement. I also liked the fact that there were a few intense scenes that did make me jump. Bottom line don't be fooled by the clever poster Boogeyman 3 was nothing but a disappointing sequel to two great movies and is bound to be followed by yet another disappointing sequel. But regardless the film did have an eerie tone to it, so if your home alone on a Friday night with nothing better to do go ahead and check this one out, but don't expect anything near as good as the first two films.

The Midnight Meat Train (2008,  R)
The Midnight Meat Train
This is one of those movies that I am just not sure about. I have read reviews saying this was as good as Hellraiser and so on and so forth, so I went in with very high hopes that Midnight Meat Train would be this wicked film. And it had all of the makings of a great film but lost itself within the movie. My big issue was the plot and the way it was executed. The whole film led up to this explosive ending that you thought would give you all the answers you were looking for, but it didn't and not in a good way either. It's pretty hard to describe without giving you spoilers, but let's just say you will definitely be left with some questions. The acting was superb you get great performances from the entire cast and an especially rememberable performance from Vinnie Jones. He only said one word the whole film and managed to keep his audience intrigued this is when you know you?re a true actor. And the gore, no lack of detail here you get bloody blows to the back of the head, decapitations, eyeballs being galged out, teeth being pulled, nails being torn off, some bloody stab wounds, and a lot more definitely some good stuff. Another thing that this managed to do was give you a very creepy atmosphere in part this is because of the acting and the plot but I think that the way it was shot was the biggest part. The camera angles mixed with the lighting and setting proved to be truly eerie. There wasn't much of a soundtrack but you didn't really miss it. The poster on the other hand was something that I would have changed; it comes off looking cheap and posed. I have seen some of the stills from this and trust me there are many images they could have used and they would have been 10 times better than the one that they chose. Bottom Line Midnight Meat Train is one of those films were I can't give you a definitive go get it or skip it. There were some plot holes that took away from the film but at the same time you got really good acting phenomenal gore and a pretty creepy concept to think about. I say use you best judgment just don't expect anything near as good as Hellraiser.

Amusement (2008,  R)
Amusement
I was surprised when reading different reviews that many didn't like this movie. I rather enjoyed it, yes there were a few dull moments and plot holes but as a whole the film was a pleasant surprise. The plot is based around three childhood friends who go their separate ways only to be stalked by a sociopath murderer who has a childhood grudge. Now I know that it sounds predictable and done but the way that it was executed was not predictable at all. It starts out as an anthology going from one girl to the next and at the end they intertwine themselves. I actually enjoyed the way that this played out; the end was a little dicey and left you with a couple questions but nothing much. The acting was actually decent, in typical slasher form you get a couple over actors who don't know when to stop but they are meant by a really nice lead cast that for a majority seemed to know what they were doing. And gore, you actually get some pretty nice stuff here some bloody blows to the back of the head, a really cool glove type thing threw the eyes, and some really realistic chest costumes. One thing that I have to say was truly creepy was the clown costume that they had, and I'm not normally scared of clowns so that was a huge accomplishment. Another thing that I really liked was the soundtrack no pun intended but it was right on track. It went great with the eerie atmosphere that the film gave off and was actually pretty cool to listen to. Bottom Line I found Amusement to actually be pretty amusing with a great plot, good gore, and some pretty nice acting this is one anthology that you can't miss I say check it out.

Wrong Turn (2003,  R)
Wrong Turn
Wrong Turn has to be one of the best cannibal movies to make it out of the 21st century. And is guaranteed to make you never look at the woods the same way again. The plot is basically a group of post college young adults get trapped in the middle of the woods and are stalked by a group of mutant cannibals. Do not be fooled, I know that it sounds like it's been done a million times but Wrong Turn is 100% all original. Acting, you get a phenomenal performance from Eliza Dushku who I am a big fan of. You get reasonably decent performance from the supporting cast. And gore it's just nonstop you get a pretty wicked decapitation, arrows through the back, cut off ears and legs, arrows through the gut, head being almost cut off by barb wire and a lot more. I also have to give them credit for the makeup job they did on the three cannibals, they looked absolutely amazing. I also rather enjoyed the way that this was shot. There were quite a few scenes of them in the woods at night and the director didn't let the darkness take over, you were able to actually see what was going on and have it remain realistic. The soundtrack was pretty plain nothing memorable but it did the job and you didn't really miss it. One thing that I would have changed would be the poster. It makes the movie look like a cheap stereotypical DTV which Wrong Turn is anything but. Bottom Line Wrong Turn had all the aspects of a great horror film and executed them perfectly with great acting, unbelievable gore, and a surprisingly original plot I say if you haven't already, go get this. It?s sure not to disappoint.

Dr. Giggles (1992,  R)
Dr. Giggles
Dr. Giggles is definitely one of my favorite horror comedies. This is a typical case of "it's so bad it's good". So the plot is based around this insane mental patient that just escaped from the hospital, and is determined to cure every illness that he can, and lets just say his bed side manner is a bit brutal. Even though the movie is filled with bad comedic dialogue and some really bad acting it's just impossible not to like. Like I said the acting was pretty bad a couple of the main characters gave pretty reasonable performances but you get over the top just plain bad performances from the rest of the cast. Gore, there is not that much gore actually it is mostly blood but what's really cool is that the death scenes are brutal and realistic without the large quantities of gore. You get some scissor stabbings, severed limbs, and blood splatter. Soundtrack, you get some generic typical slasher music but that's it, it wasn't bad but it certainly wasn't anything new. Bottom Line Dr. Giggles was an outrageous horror comedy that had a lot of faults but this is one of those rare cases were it works and it just makes the movie better. I personally loved this movie but it's not for everyone. If you are looking for a serious horror film then skip this. But if you want a care-free horror comedy then check this one out.

13 game sayawng (13: Game of Death) (13 Beloved)
I was pleasantly surprised with 13 Game of Death, for some reason I went in expecting a Thai version of Saw but this movie was like nothing I have ever seen. Starting with the plot, the main character Chit is down on his luck and very desperate. Right after loosing his job he gets this phone call from this game show saying he can win a ton of money if he completes these 13 challenges. They start out harmless and quickly turn into a game of life and death answering the question, How far are you willing to go? The plot sounds done but the way that filmmakers executed it was near perfection. Trust me this movie is anything but what you think it's going to be. It is creative and intriguing, and even has some comedic moments and at the same time manages to keep its viewers glued to the screen from start to finish. The acting I have to give credit to all of the actors in this film I don't think there was a bad performance. Gore, you don't get much really some blood spatter, a really cool decapitation, and some nice shots of a rotting body. Throughout the whole film you get twists and turns that you weren't expecting and the end is no exception. The thing that I loved most about this movie was the dedication to the story. Nowadays you see so many films that think gore can make up for a bad plot, and don't get me wrong I love a good gore film but there is nothing like a movie that gives you a great story and execution. And props on the poster, although it is simple and vague it still works. Bottom Line 13 Game of Death was an all original horror film that devotes itself completely to the story line and the characters. If you are looking for a 110% original movie that will leave you wanting more then do yourself a favor and check this one out.

Halloween (2007,  R)
Halloween
Halloween was an unforgettable movie. This in my personal opinion is one of the better remakes to come along here lately. But be warned do not go in expecting anything like John Carpenters original Halloween, because this is completely different. But remember this is Rob Zombies take on the film and I would not expect anything else from Rob Zombie. Acting, you get some pretty reasonable performances from the lead cast but nothing noteworthy. Gore, you get some blood spatter, a decapitation and a slit throat. I actually expected to see a lot more than I did. What I really give the filmmakers credit for in this is they made a remake yet it seemed so original and let me tell you based around some of the remakes we?ve seen lately that is no easy task. Bottom Line there is no question this is a Rob Zombie movie for those of you who loved the suspense of the original and the drama I'm not sure if you'll like this one but I did and I say it's definitely worth a check.

Wicked Little Things (2006,  R)
Wicked Little Things
Wicked Little Things did surprise me, because it was not what I thought it was going to be at all. I went in expecting a typical zombie film and I have to say this surpassed my expectations. Ok, so the movie is based around a single mother and her two daughters who move to this house that they inherited from her dead husband. Little did they know in the early 1900's there was a horrible mining accident that killed a large group of kids, and now there back and with a vengeance. Killing anything and everything that goes anywhere near the mines. Now while it might sound a bit played out, this actually is a good ghost/zombie story. Acting, you get pretty solid performances from the entire cast but nothing noteworthy. Gore, not much at all you get an impalement, some children eating intestines, and a lot of blood splatter. One of the only flaws of the film was that there were a lot of scenes at night and the director let the darkness take over, making it hard to see what was going on, this was a real pain and definitely minimized the amount of gore that we got to see. But this was meant by a genially creepy atmosphere that was nothing like I've seen in any zombie film prior and in this movie it wasn't all about the gore it was about the story and the characters which in the zombie genre is very hard to come by and was quite refreshing. The soundtrack was also quite nice you get reasonably paced mood music that fits the storyline very well. And I have to give them credit for the poster. I mean this poster was creepy and gave you a fair representation of what the film is going to be, and what horror fan isn't a sucker for a good evil child poster right? Bottom line Wicked Little Thing was one of the better movies in the original Afterdark Horrorfest lineup and gave the zombie genre a whole new twist on what a zombie film can be. With good acting, an eerie atmosphere, and a truly creepy plot that made you happy you live in the city I say Wicked Little Things is a must see. Check this one out.

Dead Alive (Braindead) (1993,  R)
Dead Alive (Braindead)
I just don't know where to start with a film like Dead Alive. Let me say just one thing gore, gore, gore it gives a whole new title to gore films and this was made back in 1991, and let me tell you many people have tried but no one has been able to come close in making a movie as remotely bloody and gory as Dead Alive. Ok so the plot is based around a monkey that has some kind of virus that spreads to this woman, and to everyone that she comes in contact with, turning them into zombies that are falling apart. Starting with the acting, remember this is a horror comedy so all of the performances were over the top. But somehow in this it works. The film starts out slow, very, very slow and is very boring but I am telling you hold out because you will not be disappointed and once you get there it does not stop for one second. In this one aspect it reminded me of the Exorcist. While yes it took a while to get to the point and the wait was dull after it was there it was just unstoppable. Gore, I don't know where to start flying limbs, decapitations, holes in the head, exploding people, heads being split in half, and just pools of blood trust me if you are thirsty for gore this will quench your thirst. Another thing that I just loved was the poster it is quirky yet interesting and gives you a fair representation of the film is going to be. And the soundtrack just perfect. Perfect music at the perfect times and at the perfect pace. Bottom Line many say this is bad its good but I say this is better than good. It is damn good and then some. Do whatever it is you have to do just get this movie!

Whisper (2007,  R)
Whisper
Whisper in my opinion was surprisingly original and good. So the plot is based around this couple who wants to open a diner but the bank denies them a loan so they of course decide to kidnap a rich family's kid and ask for ransom. Little did they know David is an evil child and getting rid of him is going to be much harder than they thought. Although this might seem to follow the stereo typical evil kiddie film this movie is all original and definitely will give you something that you were not expecting. Starting with the acting ok, I am not a fan of Lost and it's second rate wannabe actors at all, and I think that one of the only faults of the film was casting them. But luckily the acting skills of Blake Woodruff were enough to save them. I am telling you this kid knows how to act, his performance is one of the best I have ever seen in an evil child film, and that's saying a lot because evil children are one of my favorite sub genres. Gore, actually not much at all, of course you get a dead bird and stuff just because every evil little boy has to start somewhere but that?s just about it. What's really cool about this movie was that it didn't need it. Gore in most cases is a necessity in horror films but in this the suspense and the character depth are plenty. I love films that are completely and utterly fixated on the story and the characters and this one definitely has that. I also loved the atmosphere the setting and the tension that it made was just impeccable. Soundtrack, this takes place in the holiday season so you get some Christmas music but I personally loved it and thought it was a total score. Now this movie was released right around the time the Omen remake came out. Now the Omen (original) was inevitably one of the best demon child films in history and in my opinion the remake sucked and I was so disappointed. So having this come out not to long after was perfect because you got everything in this that you should have gotten in the remake. Bottom line, this is sure to please any one who likes evil children movies. And even if you think you have seen it all, trust me you haven't and you need to go get this. Definitely worth a check.

Dying Breed (2009,  R)
Dying Breed
So much potential. This film could have been great; it was just executed all wrong. The plot is based around 4 friends who travel to the Tasmanian Wilderness to find a supposedly extinct tiger. Only the town folk don't seem too happy to have them there. So now they are forced to fight for there lives or meet the "Pieman". That's right I said the Pieman. Ok so like I said this film was just bubbling over with potential. I liked the plot and was hoping that it would not take the same rout that so many hillbilly cannibal movies had taken before. But to my disappointment it did no such thing falling into the category typical hillbilly cannibal horror film. Acting, you get really good actors in this one I had no complaints. Now the characters were a different story. I don't think I liked one character in this movie. Gore, I really thought this was going to give me a lot more raw gory violence than it did. You get a leg and head caught in a bear trap, some dead animals, some limbs, a gory body, an axe through the back, and some teeth being pulled, that's it, definitely disappointing. One thing that I did like was the atmosphere it was creepy and intense. Soundtrack, was there one? If so I didn't notice it. Bottom Line, this is one of the shortest reviews I have ever written, letting you know just how little there really was to this movie. Dying Breed had so many chances to do something new and original but failed at all of them. Filled with plot holes, and pointless dialogue Dying Breed proved to be nothing but a disappointment. If you are in the mood for a typical redneck hillbilly horror film then check this out. But if you want something new skip this.

Rest Stop (2006,  R)
Rest Stop
Rest Stop has to be one of the most underrated films to be released in the past five years. The film centers around this young couple who are either on a road trip or running away from their parents, anyway they stop at this rest stop. While there the lead characters boyfriend just disappears with the car. Alone in an abandoned rest stop the lead character is forced in a game of cat and mouse with Rusty Nail a truck driver who insists on making her play his psychotic games. Now while it might sound like your standard road trip horror film I can guarantee to you that it is not. This is not to be mixed up with movies like Joy Ride and Monster Man, Rest Stop unlike those films has a plot and the way that it is executed is near perfection. This is one of the first films to be released from Raw Feed Productions and was made on a budget, but you wouldn't guess it. The look and feel of the film is of that you would find in a big screen mega budget movie. The sound effects are perfect; you get sharp camera angles and also great visuals. Gore, you get a finger chewed off, some drilling of limbs, brains being splattered all over the place, some bloody blows to the head, vomiting blood, a tongue being cut out, and a bit more, definitely some good stuff. Acting, its obvious going into the movie that even though there are some other characters most of it lies on the shoulders of the lead character played by Jamie Alexander, and she did not disappoint. Her performance was believable and was able to keep the audience intrigued for the duration of the film. Another thing that I want to give the filmmakers credit for is the pacing. Now there are a lot of twists and turns in this and the filmmakers had many chances to slow things down, but they didn't and it worked. Bottom Line Rest Stop is not your typical road trip horror films and deserves attention! This film is underrated and deserves a lot more credit then it has received. With phenomenal acting, great gore, and a fantastic plot that is perfectly executed I say check this one out.

Shuttle (2008,  R)
Shuttle
Shuttle has to be one of the best genre films I've seen in the past year. The plot is based around these two friends who go on this weekend trip to Mexico. When they get back to the states trying to be safe the girls decide to take a shuttle back home. But little did they know the shuttle driver has much more in store for them then just a safe ride home. Shuttle is a fast paced, all original film that leaves you guessing from beginning to end. The acting is superb even from actors that at the beginning you didn't expect much from. Gore, there isn't much really, you get some severed fingers, a slashed throat, a man being run over, and a man being beat to death. Not much but the movie didn't need it. This one relies more on character depth and suspense then any hard core gore. But the death scenes that they did have looked really realistic and were actually believable, which is hard to come by anymore. I also liked the way that this was shot it wasn't to clean but you could still tell what was going on. Soundtrack, there wasn't one really, but again this is one of those cases were you didn't really miss it. What I really loved about this movie was that you get a million twists and turns that even the most clever person wouldn't see coming and they all fit perfectly. They aren't so unsuspected that they seem ridiculous; they all go along with the plot and in the end make perfect sense. Bottom Line Shuttle combines suspense, torture, and thought to make a memorable relentlessly original brutal film that gives you everything that you weren't suspecting. If you want an all original movie that has to be one of the best to come out of 09 then go check this one out.

El Orfanato (The Orphanage) (2007,  R)
El Orfanato (The Orphanage)
If you are looking for an all original movie that delivers in every aspect then here it is, The Orphanage combines originality, thought, and fantastic directing, and gives you one horror movie that you will not forget. So the plot is based around this couple and their son who move into this orphanage that the wife (Laura) used to live at. While there her over imaginative son creates this game and a few imaginary friends, the game is that this imaginary friend will take something that you love and you have to follow the clues to get it back, and if you do find what was taken then you get one wish, Well it isn't long until Laura's son disappears and it's up to her to solve the mystery of the orphanage and play the game before it's to late. Filled with plot twists and moments that will leave you jaw dropped the Orphanage has to be one of the best ghost stories to come out in the past ten years. What I can't get over is how beautiful it was, it was beautifully written, it was shot exquisitely, and at the same time it remained a truly scary movie. Like I said this movie was original there is not one thing that happens that you "see" coming. Gore, not much, you get a few wicked looking corpses, and a woman with her jaw being torn off. So, not much gore but this one didn't need it. The plot and the execution made up 110% for the lack of gore. Acting, phenomenal performances from the entire cast even from the younger members, and Bel'en Rueda gave a perfect performance. The only flaw that I found in this was that it took a little time to build up the plot, but once it got there you won't have to ask yourself if the wait was worth it. Soundtrack, this is probably one of my favorite movie soundtracks, the piano music and the times that they used it were perfect. Bottom Line, I don't think the Orphanage could have been made better. The timing of the film, the plot, and the way that it was directed all fit perfectly. I recommend this to anyone and everyone that hasn't seen this yet, pure perfection and a truly original and scary ghost story.

Dog Soldiers (2002,  R)
Dog Soldiers
As far as werewolf movies go, I don't think that you get much better than this. So the movie in based around a group of British soldiers in Scotland that get a lot more than they bargained for when they are sent on a training mission. Being hunted by a group of blood hungry werewolves that don't particularly care for the unexpected guests. Now I know it may sound a bit done but believe me, Neil Marshall found a way to turn the werewolf sub genre on its head. Starting with acting, you get solid performances from the lead cast, and one surprisingly wonderful performance from Emma Cleasby. Gore, GET THE UNRATED ADITION, trust me anything else and you won?t get the full ride, I repeat UNRATED. You get it all in this, Wolves eating humans, wolf stabbings, guts being cut out, an impalement, heads being blown up, and a lot more. Soundtrack, total score, you get great music that goes perfectly with the scenes taking place. I praise Neil Marshall for finally giving horror fans an up to date all original gut wrenching werewolf movie, I mean it was about time. His directing was phenomenal and he made it obvious in this one just how comfortable he is behind the camera. I also love the humor in it, now don't get me wrong this is not a horror comedy but there are some funny scenes that are worked in perfectly, that just add to the movie. Bottom line, Dog soldiers is one of the best werewolf movies to come along in a long time you get great acting, a whole hell of a lot of gore, and Neil Marshall as the director, ask yourself is there anything better? I think not. If you haven't already, get up and go get this one, Check it out.

Stay Alive (2006,  PG-13)
Stay Alive
I don't care how many reviews you read saying this movie sucked, I have to say I rather enjoyed it. So the plot is based around a group of friends who inherit an underground video game after one of them dies. After they play the game one by one the friends start to die the same way their characters died in the game, can they uncover the mystery of the game, or will it be too late? Now I know the plot might sound a bit played out, but I found it surprisingly original. Acting, reasonable you get a solid lead cast, that needs to work on their emotional delivery a bit, but nothing too wretched. I think that the best was done with what was given. Gore, could have been better. You get a nails through the body, shears through the stomach, some flashes of blood, a hanging, impalement, someone being run over by a horse drawn carriage, and a few good shots of a killing in a video game. All and all not bad, but could have been so much better, this movie had all of the makings for a solid hardcore R rating, but was butchered for a PG-13, bad move, very bad move. Soundtrack, I liked a lot of the music on this one, but it failed at creating any kind of suspense or tension, Except for the wicked video game controller vibration sounds. Directing, sadly Bell chose to go resort to cheap scares a bit in the film. But you do get some cool shots of the video game. But even though this one might be generated more in the teenager direction it still kept the audience intrigued. You wondered what was going to happen to these characters and what was going to come next. Bottom line, Stay alive might have had quite a few flaws but still managed to keep its audience engrossed with the film. It has to be said that slasher movies were not meant to have a PG-13 rating, but somehow this one found ways to make it work. With reasonable acting, a semi-original plot, and some nice gore shots, I say check this one out. But be warned this is a love it or hate it movie with no guarantee.

My Bloody Valentine 3-D (2009,  R)
My Bloody Valentine 3-D
My Bloody Valentine 3D was actually one of the best remakes to come out in a long time. So the plot just like the original is based around a mining accident that happened in the little town of Harmony, which turned one man, Harry Warden into a killing machine. Ten years later all seems well in the town until body's start turning up right and left, is Harry Warden back or is another sociopath finishing what he started. So as you can see the remake's plot is identical to the original, a full on slasher film. It has been so long since I have seen a new hard core true slasher film and this is it. You get horny teenagers, a memorable killer, and a heck of a lot of gore. Acting, not the best I've ever seen in a slasher film (Jamie Lee Curtis still holds that spot) but certainly not the worst. The whole cast delivered reasonable performances, Jaime King gave a surprisingly excellent one as well as Jensen Ackels, and Kerr Smith gave his typical jerk performance as the character that you are praying through out the whole movie dies, but never does. Oh and special props to Betsy Rue she was naked 90% of her time on camera and not only was memorable for her lack of clothes but for her acting as well. All an all a nice ensemble. Gore, were oh were do I start, I couldn't possibly list all of the red stuff but just to give you a taste you get, body's with there hearts ripped out, jaws being torn off, melted face, pick axe through the head, pick axe ripping out an eyeball, shovel through the mouth, decapitations, mangled body's, and get this there's more! Soundtrack, Some nice stuff here not going to lie typical slasher soundtrack but that's exactly what this needed. This is one of the great who's the killer movies, with cookie cutter characters, and that fantastic 80's feel. So what about the 3D you ask, well sorry guys unless you were one of the lucky ones who's theaters got it in 3D then you will probably want to see the 2D version. I was lucky enough to see the 3D version in theaters and it was pretty wicked and surprisingly cool. But if you are just getting it on DVD be warned the glasses suck big time and yes there are ways you can adjust your TV to get a better visual, but good luck getting it back. But any which way you turn it 2D or 3D My Bloody Valentine is a perfect slasher film that delivers in every aspect. Bottom Line, it's worth it, so get up and go check this one out.

La Terza Madre (Mother of Tears: The Third Mother) (2007,  Unrated)
La Terza Madre (Mother of Tears: The Third Mother)
Perhaps one of the biggest disappointments since Romero's Diary of the Dead, Mother of Tears the Third Mother is nothing but a mediocre movie and a rotten end to what would have gone down as one of the best movie trilogy's ever. Ok so the plot is based around Sarah, a girl who works in a museum, one day she opens a package, and unleashes a dark spirit. Soon like a plague terror and violence start to spread over Rome like some sort of virus. Then Sarah finds herself being hunted down by witches from all over the world, who want nothing but her head on a platter. Now Sarah must use her psychic powers to conquer the Mother of Tears before it's too late. I'm not even sure were to start with this one. I would definitely see this one as a love it or hate it movie, with no in between. I am unfortunately one of the people who saw nothing good in this one just a bunch of disappointment. I am a huge fan of Argento's work, especially the Three Mothers movies. Suspiria, and Inferno were absolutely brilliant, and it's sad that this movie will be pared next to those in this trilogy. Ok so acting, I wasn't impressed at all. Asia Argento wasn't so bad at least not considering what she was given. But she was hardly enough to hold up the rest of the cast. Proving 1 good actor means nothing if you have 3 dozen bad ones. Gore, the only place that this movie did not let me down was with the gore. You get, evisceration, slit throats, someone being strangled with their innards, eye gougings, a pole through the vagina and out the mouth, some cannibalism, a head bashed in, mouth ripped open, an impalement, and a bit more. All and all if you were to cut the movie down to the 15 minutes that it would take to watch all the gore scenes, you would be very happy, but if you have to sit through the other 75 minutes or so, not so much. Soundtrack, nothing, nada, zip, I remember no music in this film. Directing, Ugh I think the only thing worse than getting older is not only having people able to see it in your face, but your work as well. Argento has to be one of the most brilliant minds in horror cinema, and to watch this rubbish and know that it was made by him is an awful feeling. The two previous movies (Suspiria, and Inferno) had a way of being classy, original movies yet at the same time were graphic, and disturbing. This one was none of those things; there were boobs and lesbians, taking out anything classy. A cheesy predictable plot that lacked any originality. Some graphic gore that was nothing reminiscent of the original?s in the sense that there was no creative thought, and the only thing disturbing about this one was knowing who was behind the camera. Bottom Line, Mother of Tears was an utter disappointment and will leave fans of the original films with their jaws dropped. (Not in a good way) I say forget this movie was ever made and don't look back.

Martyrs (2008,  R)
Martyrs
Martyrs, is one of those movies that you walk out of, not sure what you thought of it. The French have brought us quite a few horror flicks here lately, that have combined gore (lot's and lots of gore) and surprisingly good plots, and Martyrs is no exception. Ok the plot I'm not going to lie is going to be very hard to describe without giving away any details. So the film starts with a girl who we soon come to know as Lucie running down a street, drenched in blood. We find out that she was beaten and tortured. Then we see her make friends with Anna, at the local nut house. Flash forward 15 years and you get Lucie brutally killing the family who supposedly held her captive 15 years prior. She calls Anna to help her, and soon after that things just go on a downward spiral that you could have never predicted. Including creepy ass girls, demented sociopaths, and then you finally learn the true meaning of Martyrs. I know the plot seems vague, but that's just because it's so detailed and graphic that I couldn't go into much more detail without ruining everything. I'm not sure were to start with this movie. There was a lot to love. For example the originality, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I have never seen anything like this before. But there is also a bit that some might not love including some of the more graphic and disturbing scenes. Now I am not one of those people, I thought that they really added to the film in all the rights ways, but I'm not going to lie they are hard to swallow and not for the faint of heart. Moving onto gore, there's so much that it would be impossible to list it all. You get, very bloody gunshot wounds, some bloody self mutilation, a chick cutting her arm off, someone being skinned alive, medal being removed from the skull, stabbings, a sliced throat, some gruesome beatings, and a woman getting her skull smashed in, and that's just a taste. Acting, some of the best acting I've ever seen. Now I watched Frontiers earlier this year and afterwards didn't think that you could get much better acting, but this tops it in so many ways. And you won't think about it as your watching it, the acting is so good that as your watching the film you can't even tell anyone's really acting. Soundtrack, intense, heavy music, that blended extremely well with this one, a good score. Directing, Augier successfully created intense, tension filled moments in every scene. And the way it was shot gives it this highly disturbing poetic look that works wonders. I am ecstatic to see what we get next from Augier. Ok so throughout the first half of this film you will develop many questions about what is going on. They are all answered during the second half of the film. Now this is were the film turns from outrageous, outgoing, brutal violence, to disturbing graphic depictions of torture. The transition that they made was quick and sleek but very noticeable. All of your questions will be answered, but not with what you were expecting and it is somewhat unbelievable. Bottom line, Martyrs is a hard core horror movie that leaves no room for questions. You get one of the most frighteningly original plots to come out in a long time, an unimaginable amount of gore, and acting that puts everything you've seen since the Texas Chainsaw Massacre to rest. Even with a slightly unbelievable sub plot Martyrs still proves to be one of the best most entertaining horror films I've seen in a long time. Do yourself a favor and check this one out.

Steel Trap (2007,  R)
Steel Trap
One of the most recent movies to be released from the Dimension Extreme Company is, Steel Trap. A film based around a group of people who go to a party one the top floor of an abandoned high rise apartment (Sounds fun right?) A select group of people at the party receive invites to another party on the floors below. Thinking that it's just some fun joke, the group decides to check it out. Soon they realize that they are trapped on one floor of the building with no way out, and a killer who insists on making them play his games. Ok now I personally loved this plot, it had limitless possibilities, but sadly the filmmakers chose to go in the most predictable direction and give you nothing new. This was really upsetting because I have been waiting quite some time to see this movie and had very high expectations, and this movie just did not meet any of them. Starting with acting, ha ok now I honestly don't know if you can even call this acting. It was just dreadful no one new what they were doing, and to make matters worse none of the characters were likeable, they all had very obnoxious characters that just made you cringe. And they all were so stupid! I mean honestly if you walk into a party that's center piece is a rotting pigs head there is something wrong right? Well just to give you an idea of how stupid these people were, they didn't think twice about it. Gore, I would have liked to see more in this department. You get lips sown shut, a slit throat and an axe in the head, guts, a hanging, and a heart being ripped out nothing more nothing less. Soundtrack, very, very weak, I hardly even remember one. One thing that really upset me with movie was how misleading it was. The tagline for the film is "Surviving each floor is the name of the game". This led me to believe that since they are in an abandoned building every floor would be a new challenge, were some new sick game would be or something to that extent. And in reality they were only on three floors. Directing, mediocre to say the least it wasn't really memorable at all. Ok now I know that it sounds like I hated this movie, but I didn't. It's just I had very high expectations for the movie and it didn't reach them. The film is a reasonable slasher flick. You get the typical cookie cutter characters, some decent death scenes, and some nice visuals. It was just really forgettable, and added nothing to the genre. For example, the killer, all in black with a cheap mask. Like we haven't seen that a million and two times before. Also the ending, it was just bad. But I'll give them this I didn't predict it. I honesty did not expect them to have that bad of an ending. Bottom line Steel Trap was a forgettable disappointment, but was not totally bad and might be worth a check if you have nothing better to do. But be warned with this one there is a very high chance that it will not live up to your expectations, so go in with your guard up.

Captivity (2007,  R)
Captivity
Yet another film I was looking forward to that turned out to be nothing but a cheap imitation of Saw. Ok, so the plot is based around this supermodel Jennifer that gets kidnapped by a crazy killer, and wakes up in a basement there she meets Gary, in the next room or cell and they are forced to play the killers games in order to escape. I am so sick of torture movies that try to imitate films like Hostel, and Saw. The torture scenes that they did have were un-original and totally predictable. I mean honestly did you really expect them to kill off the main character? Acting, the majority of the film is put on the shoulders of Elisha Cuthbert who plays Jennifer and Daniel Gillies who plays Gary. Gillies had a solid performance, obviously it could have been better, but given what he had to work with I think he deserves quite a bit of credit. As for Cuthbert I just wasn't buying it, her performance was unbelievable and at some points even humorous to watch. Now maybe it wasn't her and was just the script, either way it sucked. Gore, this was the one place that I thought it would be a given that they would have something. But no, nothing at all, you get minor blood spatter and yep that's just about it. Soundtrack, it was actually rather good. You get very good atmosphere mood music. But it was too good actually this film didn't need that solid of a soundtrack it just overdid the movie. Directing, as I was with the rest of the film I was disappointed. I personally found no moments with any tension, nothing memorable, and nothing that made me even ask myself who was behind the camera. One of the worst aspects about this film is how forgettable it is. I really mean it, within a couple of weeks after watching the film you'll have to ask yourself "was that the one I watched"? It wasn't bad enough to remember but not good enough to either. Also this one was a huge copy cat, I mean really did they honestly think no one would catch the similarities between this one and Saw? Also the posters for this were just plain bad. Bottom line, all that Captivity is, is an unoriginal, boring, forgettable film with absolutely no gore. This one offers nothing new, all though not the worst I've ever seen it still didn't work. Maybe if you have nothing better to do and aliens came down and stole all the rest of your DVD's but other than that I say skip it.

28 Weeks Later... (2007,  R)
28 Weeks Later...
Once in a blue moon a film comes along that happens to be better than the original, and I have to say that 28 Weeks Later is one of those movies. Ok so the plot is based 28 Weeks, after a deadly virus took over the world. Everything seems to be getting normal, and the infection appears to be contained. The U.S. Army is getting ready to start re-populating the states, but it wouldn't be a good horror flick if every thing went as planned would it? In a turn of events the infection begins to spread again, and it's a fight for survival for those left alive. Now I wasn't a huge fan of the original film, 28 Days Later. I might be in a minority here, but it just didn't work for me. So I went into the sequel not expecting much at all. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised. Acting, you get wonderful performances from the entire cast. This movie is a solid horror film with no comedic aspects at all, so the performances had to be pretty gritty, and the whole cast managed to play their parts perfectly. Yet still remain likeable characters. Gore, bloodbath, total bloodbath. You get nonstop gore in this one, including, very bloody shootings, decapitations, dismemberments, eye gauging, and one really cool scene straight out of the original Dawn of the Dead involving lot's of zombies and one mean helicopter. All and all I was very pleased with the amount of blood shed. Soundtrack, nice moody music. Like I said this movie is a dramatic horror film. Don't get me wrong here, it is fun to watch, but it has its moments and the soundtrack really fit that. I just can't get over how good this movie was. From the opening scene that took a lot of guts to the final shot, you get non stop action. The films leading characters are children, which was also a pleasant surprise. It gave the movie a different spin compared to other zombie flicks. And just when your about to say, "They've done everything they can with the zombie genre" something like this comes out that gives you new hope. Bottom Line, unlike its predecessor 28 Weeks Later delivers action, gore, suspense, believable performances, twists and turns, and an all original plot. If you haven't gotten the hint, it's a bad-ass flick. I say if you haven't already get up and check this one out.

Geoul sokeuro (Into the Mirror) (2003,  Unrated)
Geoul sokeuro (Into the Mirror)
Into the Mirror definitely did not live up to my expectations. Ok so the plot is based around a ex cop who takes a job at a old warehouse that is re-opening after being closed for 15 years due to a fire. Two days before the big opening all of the staff mysteriously turn up dead, it looks like a mass suicide. The weird thing is that everyone was killed with the opposite hand they usually use. This makes the ex cop wonder is the old warehouse is haunted, and forces him to solve the mystery before he's next. The main problem that I had with this movie was that it didn't know what it wanted to be. A majority of the time it was striving to be this police crime- thriller and the other half it was trying to be this supernatural ghost story, and the two just didn't mix well. Acting, I was pleasantly surprised here you get a solid cast that delivers believable performances. But to be honest while some might find a lot of the characters relatable or likeable, I didn't. This definitely made it harder to appreciate the acting. Gore, I have to say there was a lot more gore than I expected there to be. You get a slit throat, a person split in half, some gory gunshot wounds, and a few mirror stabbings. Soundtrack, this one was a huge let down I was expecting really good eerie ghost music that just built the atmosphere and added tension, but no. Actually the soundtrack is very forgettable, with nothing special at all. Directing, the director in this one made it clear just what kind of movies we would see from him in the future. There were a few time he resorted to using cheap scare tactics that didn't really work and just came off unoriginal and dull. But we did get some cool mirror shots that were a bit creative. Also the visuals were fantastic. Say what you will about South Korean horror flicks, love them or hate them, they are still beautiful to watch. Another thing that this movie failed in doing was building any suspense or tension, while I was intrigued for the majority of the film I wasn't on edge, which needless to say is a necessity when it comes to a good ghost flick. Also the plot was original, although yes movies that revolve around mirrors have been done before; there are still a lot of places that you could have taken the movie. And while it wasn't completely unoriginal it was very predictable. Bottom line, Into the Mirror is not one of the better South Korean horror films to come out lately. It didn't really know what it was, failed to built and tension of suspense, and had a predictable plot. But it was meant with good acting, some nice gore, and great visuals. While I wouldn't totally write this one off, but I also wouldn't recommend it. I say take a risk and check this one out, but be warned there is no guarantee.

Lake Dead (2007,  R)
Lake Dead
I was naive in what I was expecting with the second After Dark Horrorfest, see I thought it would be just as good as the original maybe even better, but instead we get stuck with movies like this. Ok, so the movie is based around two sisters who find out that their grandfather has died and left them a motel/ camping site. They decide to go check the place out with a group of friends, only to discover that there is a very specific reason why they never were told about their grandparents. I'm not sure really were to start with this movie there was just so much bad. Taking after many before it, Lake Dead is a want to be Wrong Turn. Combing red neck families, cannibalism, and insist to make something not disturbing, not funny, not enjoyable, just stupid. Gore, you get one memorable metal bar through the foot scene, a bloody headshot, some fingers being torn off, and a little bit of blood spatter, I was expecting a lot more. Acting, I don't actually think that you can call this acting. I mean really all these people did was drink, screw, and run around screaming like idiots, which I'm sure wasn't a new task for them. All and all, wretched just wretched. Soundtrack, to be honest I don't even remember there being one. Either there actually wasn't or it was just that bad, either way nothing good here. Here's what gets me about this movie, I really think the makers set out to make a good movie, and actually might have been pleased with the finally outcome. And this is just my opinion here, but with that kind of poor judgment there is no wonder why this movie was as bad as it was. The only thing that was remotely enjoyable about this was the visuals; it was not bad to look at. Needless to say, you will be watching a bunch of mind numbing nonsense, but it will be nice looking mind numbing nonsense. Bottom line, no matter who you got behind the camera or who you put in front of it lake Dead was destined to suck, because it just has a bad plot. There is no character intrigue no background story, no nothing, and any which way you turn it that is all this movie will ever be, nothing. I say skip it.
