This is how a drama movie doing with kidnapping should be made to. It was great, and it really did deserve winning the 1976 academy award. As usual, Scorsese did a great job doing it. Plus De Niro did a great performance.

Not so good. Nothing comes off worse in a movie than attempting to hit two opposite demographics at once. Goodman, Ricci and Hirsch were all good calls. Ricci is really a missed gem in the acting world and Goodman is always a good father figure.

The action is fast, I guess (define fast really), however it's done in the worst possible way. It's all CGI, which I suppose is necessary but it is way over the top in a bad way. Unfortunately they try to make the heart of the story itself serious and interesting, but all is lost in the horrible comical aspects, the example of a monkey throwing feces comes to mind (honestly, who watches this?).

When a movie juxtaposes seriousness and well placed interest with monkey poop throwing humour and just horrible machoism-cgi-bullcrap racing scenes, well, it doesn't make the film any easier to watch for either film goer. The only way this movie receives more than 3/5 stars is for fanboys/girls because it honestly is not that great, also, they claim the bad reviews are for those who never saw the series. First of all, I have seen the original series, and many more classic cartoons and well comprised anime then almost any of them, secondly, the original wasn?t all that great to begin with and it is still no excuse to create a movie that cannot entertain the average movie-goer.

In any case, the film cost 100 million to make (3 times the average movie production rate) and is currently flopping at the box office, for good reason. I must say however, that there are brief glimpses where the movie showed some class and ingenuity that made me feel that in the right hands, this movie could?ve been done much better. As a children?s movie, which it is, it?s not too bad, however, I believe that if it were given a real adult spin it could?ve been quite interesting indeed. Unfortunately it was not, and thus, quite lame.
This is an un-recommendation. It's what I do best.

Street Kings (The Night Watchman) Street Kings (The Night Watchman)
    3.5 Stars by Michael
I went to see David Ayer's new film STREET KINGS with no expectation, and hell, I really enjoyed it. It's not original in the least, taking the formula from just about every other corrupt cops film, and the previous written works of Ayer himself, but it managed to keep me intriqued in it's plot and entertained at the same time. The last twenty minutes or so did go unnecessarily over the top, but by then I didn't really care. Reeves is suprisingly strong, as is the rest of the impressive cast.
Not perfect; Not original; Not classic... but STREET KINGS is an entertaining time at the movies. Cliches and all, it's a lot of fun!

    Titus Titus
    3.5 Stars by Jens
A very post modern version of one of Shakespeare's bloodiest tragedies, with all the well known ingredients: betrayal, murder, intrigues, revenge and revenge for revenge, really mean villains and broken heroes. The set and prop design refuses to be entirely antique or modern and mixes old ruins with motorcycles, guns with armor, which makes for a really gorgeous, unique look. The cinematography of the film is just as beautiful, the soundtrack changes from classic drama scores to catchy jazz tunes, which creates some rather strong changes in mood. It's the rather bizarre and oddly humorous and symbolic scenes that do not quite work as well as the rest of this great adaption, but that's only a small minority of the whole 155 minutes. The whole cast gives really strong performances and when Titus reveals his final plot of revenge it's quite clear why Anthony Hopkins is truly perfect for the role, considering who else he played in movie history...
Heavy, bloody and weird stuff but in the end very rewarding for Shakespeare fans with an open mind for new interpretations, just like Luhrman's Romeo and Juliet.
Hey, you should really see this if you enjoyed Baz Luhrman's Romeo and Juliet and enjoy modern Shakespeare adaptions.

Hey, you should really see this! Hitchcock brings Leon Uris' best selling novel to the screen in brilliant detail. And watching John Forsythe go through the motions is worth the viewing--over the top acting at its finest.

Hey, you should really see this!

Reasons? Sean Connery and Tippi Hedren were in the prime of their careers with this brilliant psychological thriller directed by the "Master of Suspense" himself...Alfred Hitchcock!!! This is a movie that has puzzled audiences ever since it was released in 1964. A brilliant character study into the mind of a girl whose behavior causes her to do the unthinkable. Another reason why to watch this movie is the striking Technicolor that it brings which is eye-popping.

Hey, you should really see this! Bored housewives, swinging sex and nude girls galore in this straight up homage to the exploitation cheapies of the 1970's made by the likes of Radley Metzger,Russ Meyer,Just Jaeckin,Joe D'Amoto, and Herschell Gordon-Lewis. Could this be the genuine grindhouse article of years past? This was drive-in entertainment at its best made for the arthouse generation of today.
