Whoa. Some of the parts were too Hollywood, but the overall idea of learning about these storms to help people when it's needed is really great. Those twisters had me on the edge of my seat.

Dead Silence (2007,  R)
Dead Silence
was very excited to see "Dead Silence". The previews hawked it to be a scarefest, but in essence, it's really no more than a cheesy horror movie with decent production values but terrible acting.
The plot was so muddled (with more holes than my grandpa's underwear!), and the characters did things that made no sense.
My sister had the "twist" ending figured out within the first fifteen minutes, and she had spent half of the movie hiding behind her Slurpee.
Overall, I expect more from the James Wan/Leigh Whannell team that brought us the original "Saw".

Fast and Furious (2009,  PG-13)
Fast and Furious
This movie is action packed from the beginning to the end. The stunts and visuals of thie movie are amazing. I thought the movie had all the goods. It was funny in parts, had action, and hot cars and hot men. My friend and I left feeling that our $8 was well spent. I think that this one is almost better than the first movie. I would encourage anyone who ones a fun night out at the movies to go and see this movie.

This review will be short and to the point since most animated films are not rocket science. This film will appeal to any fan of animation who enjoys movies about superheroes.

The plot is clever and pokes fun at today's society and the animation is first rate. The voices used for each character fit well and they even sneak in the voice of Wallace Shawn (Inconceivable!).

There are several fanstastic action sequences although the violence level may be a bit high for some parents taste. I thought the film was very good and it was to animated action what Shrek 2 was to animated humor.

Definitely worth seeing if you have kids or if you enjoy superhero films. If the upcoming Fantastic Four film needs any ideas, this is where they should get them.

All I can say is wow. Finally a movie that is great to watch without profanity, violence or nudity or any sexuality at all. This movie will take you through many emotions from sad, to happy, depressing to cheering and clapping, and a tear or two will fall. What an inspirational movie with a great plot. Its about a man trying to lead a football team to fame, and for 6 years he has failed. Then he says well things are going to change, we have tried to win for ourselves, how bout we try to win for God. I wont tell you anymore from there. For those of you who arent a christian, you will still like the movie, its about football- guaranteed you wont be disappointed! Make sure you take your teenage kids they will be inspired.

My Bloody Valentine (1981,  R)
My Bloody Valentine
All I can say is wow. Went opening night, and absolutely loved this movie. The 3-d aspect was awesome. It actually looked like you were in the movie itself! This movie has everything a horror fan could want. Sex, and gore, and lot's of it. It was a graphic movie and make me queezy a couple of times. lol Hopefully the movie studios will realize how popular this was, and decide to make more horror movies in 3-d in the near future. It was truly an amazing experience, but to get the realization of it definently sit in the front. I sat in the second row. And the ending was left open for a sequel...We'll see how that goes.

GoodFellas (1990,  R)
GoodFellas
This is not like the typical crime movie. The criminals and gangsters in here are not superheroes like many other movies in this genre make them to be. These people are down to earth who dont know any other way to live other than cut the corners and take short cuts. The characters in Goodfellas are not good fellas at all; they only look at their own benefits, and care nothing about others. The much declared love and care for one another in the group, these good wills are only evident during good times. When things go sour, everyone looks after their own behinds and nobody else's. Wifes and kids dont mean anything to them, they are only for cover-ups and convenience purposes. Partners? Good if they dont screw you up. And if they do? Whack them, only dead man can be trusted. And if you are going to get whacked? Volunteer for the police's witness protection program and screw your ex-mates. The gangster world is nothing romantic and honorable, and everything about business and self-interest.
This movie is so realistic, there is no climax. Everything just happens. The characters dont have much conscience and moral awareness, and it is not the movie's aim to judge the characters. The story lets everything goes on a fixed flow, and without a breakthrough from anyone in the film, the latter part becomes stagnant. By being what it is, however, Goodfellas stands out as a good portrait of the life of a gangster.

The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (2001,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring
J.R.R. Tolkien's The lord of the rings is probaly the book of XX century: loved by a lot of people. Tolkien himself said that will be impossible to translate his masterpiece on the screen. It was true becouse in the book there are a lot of enormous battles, fantastic places and strange creatures. It was really impossible!
But now Peter Jackson with the modern special effects and technologies do it and the result is a stunning masterpiece: one of the best movie ever made. The fellowship of the ring is the first part of the trilogy: it's only the beginning. The worst movie in the trilogy but also a mastrpiece. The movie starts with a rich prologue which introduce we in the middle earth. This prologue is for me the best part of the movie becouse there is an epic great battle and it is still tragic: a perefect exemple of great cinema. But remember The lord of the rings is a one big movie formed by The fellowship ofu the ring, The two towers, and The return of the king. Don't judge this first movie if you haven't see all the trilogy.

The Score (2001,  R)
The Score
The Score is a really good movie I like it because I tend to be into movies that have like some action in it plus I have always had a little thing for Edward Norton so you know it just came to me. Ok the reason whey I think you should see this movie is due because it has great action and I learned a lot from this movie plus I think that Edward Norton did an excallent job on acting because in the movie in order to get what they are trying to score at he has to gain the trust of these security gards which he did and excellent job at. He pretends he is autistic I can't spell that but the disease is called Miled Retardation which it is very hard to act like that.

The Chronicles of Riddick (2004,  Unrated)
The Chronicles of Riddick
New worlds, new races, intergalactic planet destruction. Star Wars? No, I don't think so. New sci-fi thriller that will set the trend for the 22nd century?

Without a doubt...

The Chronicles of Riddick are not about human struggle or even universal survival. This is the story of one man, a reluctant hero and a sole survivor of his race. I use the term reluctant hero instead of anti hero because, as much as they want this to be a story about "Bad -VS- Evil", Riddick isn't bad. If we only knew Riddick as the convict from Pitch Black this would sit well with me. However, Riddick is a survivor who is reluctant to put himself in harms way for others. His murderous trend has been marked down as bad when in fact he is the one who has been wronged and only kills those who would see him dead or would harm someone he cares about. I have yet to see the man slay an innocent person.

The story seemed to be lacking in detail early on. I must admit there were moments where I was wondering what happened to the infamous "Shine Job" story line, but in the end all the pieces of the puzzle fit together almost as if they were never apart.

In the movie we also get a glimpse into the story of what happened to Riddick as a child. I I believe this gives us an insight on what makes him tick and will make a great reasoning to add a prequel to pitch black and this already stellar story line. This also helps give the viewer a more sympathetic view of why he seems so angry at the world and God. Now some of you are saying, "What do you mean angry at God." Well I remember the first movie like It was only a week ago that I watched it(That could be because it was on Sci-Fi just before this release.) and I distinctively remember Riddick telling the holy man that he believed in God, but that he hated him(in his own unique way). Undoubtedly, the man is angry and the man feels no remorse for his actions, which gives the character a "bad" persona. However, one would have to ask themself, "How will I cope?" when he found himself in the same situation.

Along with all of the intense action of this movie they never failed to bring a little of the humorous side out of Riddick to relief the neck stiffening tension between all of the characters. I thoroughly enjoyed the suprising twist at the end and the opening left, possibly, for only the imagination.

In the end, Riddick gave us every bit of attitude we expected and Kira or Jack contributed more than I was expecting. The Director did an excellent job of portraying the character conflicts. It was very much different from Pitch Black in terms of action. It was also something very new and fresh unlike most sci-fi flicks I've seen. I believe this is everything the people wanted this movie to be and more.

Valiant (2005,  G)
Valiant
I personally enjoyed this better than the overrated Madagasgar. To be sure, it is not up to the "creators of Shrek" label but it is good clean fun which does not overstay its welcome. In fact, at 76 minutes, its runtime is just about right. Still, I could not help feeling that there was something missing. The age of musical cartoons has gone and if the script doesn't deliver a laugh a minute then the movie starts to drag. I think this could have been a terrific movie, but as is it is still a good, albeit not great, summer faire.

The Godfather (1972,  R)
The Godfather
Based on the novel of the same name by Mario Puzo and directed by Francis Ford Coppola, with screenplay by Puzo and Coppola. The film stars Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton and James Caan. The story spans ten years from late 1945 to 1955 and chronicles the life of the Corleone crime family.

The Godfather was initially ranked as the third greatest film in American cinematic history (behind Citizen Kane and Casablanca) on AFI's 100 Years... 100 Movies list by the American Film Institute. It has now been re-ranked number two under Citizen Kane, with number three being Casablanca. It is also the top movie on Internet Movie Database's Top 250 list,as well as Metacritic's top 100 list and Rotten Tomatoes' all-time best list.

Two sequels followed, The Godfather Part II in 1974 and The Godfather Part III in 1990.

The story begins as "Don" Vito Corleone, the head of a New York Mafia "family", oversees his daughter's wedding. His beloved son Michael has just come home from the war, but does not intend to become part of his father's business. Through Michael's life the nature of the family business becomes clear. The business of the family is just like the head of the family, kind and benevolent to those who give respect, but given to ruthless violence whenever anything stands against the good of the family. Don Vito lives his life in the way of the old country, but times are changing and some don't want to follow the old ways and look out for community and "family". An up and coming rival of the Corleone family wants to start selling drugs in New York, and needs the Don's influence to further his plan. The clash of the Don's fading old world values and the new ways will demand a terrible price, especially from Michael, all for the sake of the family. Written by Charlie Ness

Vito Corleone is the aging don (head) of the Corleone Mafia Family. His youngest son Michael has returned from WWII just in time to see the wedding of Connie Corleone (Michael's sister) to Carlo Rizzi. All of Michael's family is involved with the Mafia, but Michael just wants to live a normal life. Drug dealer Virgil Sollozzo is looking for Mafia Families to offer him protection in exchange for a profit of the drug money. He approaches Don Corleone about it, but, much against the advice of the Don's lawyer Tom Hagen, the Don is morally against the use of drugs, and turns down the offer. This does not please Sollozzo, who has the Don shot down by some of his hit men. The Don barely survives, which leads his son Michael to begin a violent mob war against Sollozzo and tears the Corleone family apart.

This film has that rare ability to affect you even after repeated viewings.

Sahara (2005,  PG-13)
Sahara
First and foremost, you must understand there is absolutely no way possible for anybody to fit all the details from a book into a movie. With that said, if you go to this movie very skeptical(as I did), you will probably leave very happy, and very amused. If you are expecting everything that was in the book, you will probably be dissapointed.

You know the story if you read the book, so I am not going into details about that. But very suprisingly, the movie followed the outline of the book pretty good. Of course, many were things were left out, but like I said, the movie would have have to been 5 hours long to capture the detail of Cussler\\'s novel. And on that same note, there were several scenes added that were not in the book, which may be the only thing I was not thrilled about.

The characters is what most people were very skeptical about, espscially Giordino\\'s actor. But in my mind, at the end of the movie you will have an expanded view of Cusslers characters in your mind!

Matt M. was brilliant as Dirk Pitt, being very cunning and sly as he is in the book. He is actually very close to the vision I had in my head of him! Steve Zahn as Al Giordino was good, but not great. I was just like everyone else in not being able to picture him in this role. But I think he pulled it off, and in a way made the movie better than it really was. He did not appear to be the "tough guy" we read about in the novels, but without a doubt his wisecraking reamrks were full tilt. He and Matt M. shared a good chemistry together, and I can see them together in another Cussler classic.

William H. Macy was fabulous as Sandecker. He was a perfect fit. He was not a huge part of the movie, but played a good role. Penelope Cruz was good as Eva Rojas. I think a lot of people could have done the role, but she did very good. Maybe the only character I just still cannot picture is Rudi Gunn. I always invisioned an older, balding guy with a lot of wit. I do not think he was a good fit, but was still good in his part. Kazim\\'s character was OK, but could have been better. I just could not picture him as that bad of a guy. Massarde was a disaster though. He was looked upon as a pansy. I saw him as a very mean individual, who would not think twice to do harm. He had the impression of a pussycat here.

Most notably left out were Perlmutter(not enough time to get him in I suppose), and Max the computer and his owner.

The movie itself was good. Lots of action, lots of humour. I know a lot of people who are avid Cussler fans will absolutley hate this movie. But there is nothing you could do to make them happy anyway. Like I said before, if you go to the movie knowing there is no way the can get everything in, it might suprise you. But if you go looking for everything, well... GOOD LUCK.

Overall, I enjoyed the movie a lot. I realize it is not exactly the book, but it is an outline of the book, and it is very entertaining. I reccommend it to anyone who enjoyed the book, but realizes it cant be as good as the book. I was a skeptic at first too, but I left the theatre smiling, and was glad that they made this film.

Blade Runner (1982,  R)
Blade Runner
This powerful film makes a great impact on the Cult Film world. It uses a futuristic story to explain the complex theories of existence and help go even far beyond. Edward James Olmos has a great quote in this movie when he says, "It's too bad she won't live. But then again, who does?" That quote sums up this powerful, moving sci that shows little reflections of other movies of the time period, but more characteristics of a great film.

Blade Trinity is a wonderful movie but takes a different path then the first two. The director throws in tons of humor in this one which directs attention from what the first two had: bloody vampire slayings. If you are looking for a good action flick with humor thrown in, Blade Trinity is definitly for you. But if you want the hard as steel, Wesley Snipes kick ass, kind of movie that Blade is known for, hit up blockbuster.

Minority Report (2002,  PG-13)
Minority Report
In the near future criminals are arrested before they commite murders, Precrime led by John Anderton (Tom Cruise) uses three people which have psychic powers and can see future murders these are called Precogs. Anderton totally believes in the system and had joined it due to the death of his son, at the start of the film as we enter his apartment it is blatent that he ain't taking the death well due to the drugs, the mess. One day though what seems like just another murder turns out to be him comiting the murder, he of course believe this to be the anoying fed hanging around the place (Colin Farrel) messing around with things. The story develops quite well and for me had a good twist near the end which totally changed the movie around. The acting is good what there is of it, the film mostly relies on stunts, special effects etc which is what the movie is about and is done well but there are some good moments in the movie. It is well directed with some brilliant camera angles, Steven Spielberg has created a very nice and intersted science fiction film based on the Philip K. Dick short story. The film has a very washed out effect with lack of colour and alot of blue, the similar effect has been used in this movie as was used in The Crow were the flashbacks to were Anderton was happy with his son are in colour and the present day is really washed out. Overall a good sci-fi film, even though I've heard people say it's slow I personally didn't find it slow down at all.

Night of the Living Dead (1968,  Unrated)
Night of the Living Dead
This near perfect movie is only flawed by the terrible acting which sometimes adds to the scariness and not in a good way. Pretty much following the original storyline from the 1968 movie, it only has a few minor/major character adjustments. Namely the main character Barbara is no longer doomed to sit on the couch babbling about her lost brother, Johnny. She is now transformed into a strong heroine who seems to have more of a backbone than the other characters. Also there are some survivors this time around, as well.
Tom Savini does the FX for the movie and he does them beautifully! I love the zombie with the broken back flailing around on the front lawn! Heck, his effects alone make this film worth seeing.
If you can look past the hokey acting into the real story and the terrific special effects you'll find this movie very enjoyable to watch.

Child's Play (1988,  R)
Child's Play
Wanna play? Those two little words have struck fear into the minds of people like no other phrase. There is nothing creepier than the idea of something as innocent and as sweet as a little boy's doll being able to grab a household item and take your life away. That's exactly the part of your mind that this story taps into. The thing that makes this movie so good is that it does not have to rely on gallons and gallons of blood or girls swimming nude in the lake while doing drugs to make it a classic. The storyline, and of course Chucky himself, make this one of the best horror movies of all time. Enjoy!

Equilibrium (2002,  R)
Equilibrium
I first watched this movie after I was hooked by reading the info on it on my digital cable. It said Post- Apocalyptica and I was very interested in those kind of movies such as 12 Monkeys. I had no idea really what to expect throughout the whole movie because I had never seen the movie advertised or anything.

In my opinion, people should not compare this movie to Matrix or accuse this movie of copying The Matrix just because the lead character wears a long black coat similar to Neo\'s. This movie is in a category of its own. The \"Gun-Kata\" action sequences are somthing The Matrix will never have and thats what makes this movie so great. The story is a bit like George Orwells 1984(Big Brother is watching).

This movie shows you how much we should appreciate our individual rights and freedoms. Also, how powerful emotions can be and how important they are.

Overall this movie was excellent and I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves action movies. The action sequences are so great I cant even describe them. So I suggest you go buy the movie or rent it and trust me you will not be disapointed.

Equilibrium is a very cool and well made movie. The Gun-Kata scenes are incredible and near the level of Matrix action scenes. The story is good, the acting is great, especially by the always reliable Christian Bale. I own the movie because it was worth it. You should own it too or at least rent it andenjoy it.

The Last of the Mohicans (1992,  R)
The Last of the Mohicans
I love this film, a deeply stirring story about the new world, the lingering pride of the old society, the resiliant livelihood of the frontiers men and the perishing people of the native American continent.

A romantic story, not in the sense of Harry meets Sally, but one in the wild, a collision between what is refined or chastised and that of the skillful, swift, strong and free. Theirs is the true adventure, a new life in a new world to embrace with much to struggle for, and much to sacrifice.

Most of all, I loved the music, as if opening a flood dam it pours the images from the film into my head time and time again, long after the story is over. Last time it happened, I had to watch the movie again. I guess this is how addictions begin.

Lastly, I envy the people in the time of the story, when land provided caring livelihood instead of simple real estate, or love afforded someone to struggle together with instead of an opponent in the bitter divorce battle that is common today. I hope this is not the "grass is greener" mentality at play, but truly the emotions aroused in me by the film somehow connects me with those who loved, desired, struggled, and mostly, those who perished.

Last of the Mohicans, a good story, good film.

The Green Mile
An excellent film, it manages to be touching without being over-sentimental. Tom Hanks is brilliant in his role, and, as usual, manages to bring warmth to the character he plays.

What could be a sad, depressing film has its moments, but at the same time lifts up the viewer to a sense of hope and justice. It is guaranteed to make you laugh, cry and scream at the tv set.

The film is long, though and that might be off putting to some, however, the time flies and you'll want to watch it again. Read the book too!

I love this movie. First of all, the movie is packaged very well. You can also relate very well to the movie. Which makes the movie that much better. Kurt Russell is awesome in this movie. It's a movie that almost everyone will like. For the women, a strong plot, a lot of drama, and a story of a husband trying to find his wife. Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror) (Nosferatu the Vampire) (1922,  Unrated)
Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror) (Nosferatu the Vampire)
Few will ever remember this movie, and that is due to the simple fact that it's a silent film and the title says nothing of "dracula". However, those who are interested in watching a good horror film should try to get their hands on this.

Nosferatu is a movie made in an old fashion style. There's no gore, brutality, or even screaming in this movie (let alone sound). It was made in a time when the only way to truly scare someone was to suck them into an extraordinarly creepish atmosphere. It's a movie that scares you when your walking up the stairs because you happen to remember the shadow that the vampire reflects when he walks up the stairs. Stuff like that isn't stuff that makes you freaked out in the short term of watching the movie; they're the things that keep you up all night.

The acting in this movie is way different from the acting of now. Since this movie was created in the silent era of film, many of the actors and actresses over exaggerate their facial expressions and body movement. I found this most revealing with the protagonist that goes to transylvania to find dracula. When they are happy, there's no question in your mind they are. Their sadness is almost so romanticised it's funny. Max did an outstanding job playing Dracula (or in some versions of the film, he is called him Count Orlok). His role is the complete antithesis to the protagonists, for his face hardly changes many expressions. But it works, because it's a face that you will remember throughout the entire film.

If your someone who's very interested in film history, have a thing for atmospheric horror, or is just some horror fanatic, then watch this film. This and The Cabnet of Dr. Caligari were the two films that really began the horror genre.

Gone With the Wind (1939,  G)
Gone With the Wind
Gerald: Do you mean to tell me, Katie Scarlett O'Hara, that Tara - that land doesn't mean anything to you? Why, land's the only thing in the world worth working for, worth fighting for, worth dying for, because it's the only thing that lasts.
Scarlett: Oh, Pa. You talk like an Irishman.
Gerald: It's proud I am that I'm Irish, and don't you be forgetting, Missy, that you're half-Irish, too. And, to anyone with a drop of Irish blood in them - why, the land they live on is like their mother. Oh, but there, there. Now, you're just a child. It'll come to you, this love of the land. There's no getting away from it if you're Irish.

This story has been one of Hollywood's best for over half a century. No one will ever forget the dashing Rhett Butler, or the fiery Katie Scarlet O'Hara. The acting is truly superb, and after watching it over and over I still love it. I recommend this for everyone, it is a masterpiece that is unmatchable to any other.

Apocalypse Now (1979,  R)
Apocalypse Now
Terminate with extreme prejudice.

Apocalypse now is a terrific film made by a master film maker. However, the journey is quite slow and at times the film is quite talky. All this may be neccessary to convey the message which Coppolla is trying to convey but one wishes the film was a bit faster pace. The horrors of vietnam are brilliantly depicted and the movie takes us on a surreal journey where Martin Sheen's mission is to destroy the rogue colonel played by Marlon Brando. Along the way we witness the horrors and insanity of war which is reflected in Brando's behavior. I feel that it is a very well made film which is thought provoking and interesting. But I would not recommend this movie for those who are interested in seeing a war film which is the ra ra honor and glory type. Those who feel they are going to see a war film (in the way many expect it to be) will be terribly disappointed and may even get bored. Those who want to see a thought provoking film based on the horrors of war and its effects will walk away satisfied.

Up
I always have high standards when it comes to a Pixar film, and they once again surpassed my expectations and delivered a truly inspired film full of comedy, adventure, heart-warming moments, and never a dull moment. This is by far one of the best movies I have seen for quite a long time. Do yourself a favor and see this show. Even worth seeing 2nd and 3rd times. The animation is absolutely breathtaking!

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968,  G)
2001: A Space Odyssey
Usually, when I write a review, I try to make it considerably long, in order to give my full opinion of the direction, acting, story, etc. But this is something I simply can't do with this movie because 2001 is not meant to be taken in the literal sense. Acting and storyline take a far lesser importance, in this movie because it is an allegory. Rather than telling you what my interpretation of this movie was, I will allow you to discover that for yourself.

The film is composed of four episodes. Three of the major sections are subtitled:

The Dawn of Man
A primeval ape man makes a breakthrough - becoming endowed with intelligence after experiencing a mysterious black monolith.

(The Lunar Journey in the Year 2000) - untitled
Eons later, a similar monolith is discovered on the lunar surface in the 21st century, sending its signals to Jupiter.

Jupiter Mission, 18 Months Later [(in 2001 or 2002)]
A futuristic, 18-month journey to Jupiter.

Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite
A mystical experience in another time and dimension.
Monoliths link the primeval, futuristic, and mystical sections of the film. [Note: Originally, the Discovery was to visit the planet Saturn, but the special effects team couldn't realistically reproduce the rings of the planet, so Jupiter was used instead.

I will simply say that this is is an amazing cinematic achievement, one of the best movies ever. Just remember that it is an allegory, and try to look beyond the literal.

The Magnificent Ambersons (1942) is the legendary Orson Welles' second film - another audacious masterpiece. It was produced, directed, and scripted (but not acted in) by Welles, a follow-up film one year after his masterful classic Citizen Kane (1941). It was based on Booth Tarkington's 1918 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, and had been filmed earlier as a black and white silent film from Vitagraph under the title Pampered Youth (1925).

This film's screenplay was written by Welles in only nine days. He had first adapted the story for a CBS-radio broadcast (Campbell's Playhouse) with his Mercury Theatre in the fall of 1939, featuring Walter Huston as Eugene Morgan and Welles himself as George Minafer. He used his regulars from Mercury Theatre within this production: Joseph Cotten, Agnes Moorehead and Ray Collins (the only actor in the film who also appeared in the radio version).

Although the beautiful, near-masterpiece film is rich in cinematic technique (overlapping dialogue, deep focus cinematography and magnificent lighting, fluid dolly and truck shots, innovative crane shots, iris in-out openings and closing of scenes, long takes, etc.) and layered with complexity and subtle meaning, in its initial preview screening, it was a disastrous flop for its emotionally-downbeat mood, and because of its focal point: a spoiled brat (played by B-Western actor Tim Holt) of the town's richest family and later, as a conceited young man.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (Ice Age 3)
Having thoroughly enjoyed Ice age and Ice age 2, and considering the sequels of movies this year have been somewhat of a let down, i was holding my breath for this one.

Indeed, the first 30 minutes of the movie i was beginning to wonder, sure it had some laughs but it wasnt the 'in stitches' kind of moments we got from the first 2. However, around the 30 minute mark it takes off in a fast and funny way and some moments were classically funny.

It is no wonder why this film is many different top 100 lists. It is a filmatic achievement directed by one of the best directors of all time: Steven Spielberg. This is his masterpiece and is one of his best. Present sci film movie are no comparison. It is everything that a scifi movie would want to be. This film does something that is hard to do in this type of film it builds a relationship with the characters and the audience. There is lots of chemistry between the characters and the audience. The little boy is pretty cool as well. He is the epitome of change and curiousity.

There is one character that seems to go crazy as well and builds a sculpture that is very symbolic. Spielberg somehow figures out how to make a scifi film actually seem real. It is very believeable. If you likes ET you'll love this.

The Messengers (2007,  PG-13)
The Messengers
Within the first five minutes, the only thing keeping me in the theatre was a desire to see who played the little boy. That held true throughout the rest of the movie as well.

If we watch this movie, we always hear a coughing sound. what the bad is that sound?
the man who is coughing in the film is just wasting his time as a cast and make the audience sick and tired to hear the man\'s cough and wonder who is the man coughing in the whole scene.

While you jump a little bit, it starts to get very annoying after a very short amount of time.

Everything about this movie was great. All parts of what a Western should be. From start to finish I couldn't keep my eyes of the screen. Great acting, scenery, action, etc. Hopefully more Westerns will come of this.

Aliens in the Attic
OK, I'll be honest. The first time I saw this preview, I said "Never in a million years am I seeing that movie" When me and my friend made a bet (I lost) we had to see the movie. I found myself loving every second of the movie! Especially with the mind control remotes! The most entertaining family movie of the summer by far!

The Great Debaters (2007,  PG-13)
The Great Debaters
The movie is a fast two hours of great drama. It is a good story about being black in 1930s rural Texas where they lynch blacks just because they are.

The acting and directing are superb. The audience claps both during and after the movie.
You root for the underdog boo the bullys, rejoice with the victories, cry with the injustices, and are outraged with the cruel way human beings treat one another.

The movie is an emotional roller coaster that leaves you uplifted.

Definitely worth seeing and Oscar worthy.

El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) (2006,  R)
El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth)
The film is about a girl, Ofelia, whose mom gets married to a military leader in Spain during a civil war. The Captain wants a boy child to carry on his manhood genes, and therefore only cares about impregnating his wife and ignoring the little girl brat. Eventually the wife gets pregnant, and now wifey can just make sure the new baby is OK. During all this, Ofelia is reading a magic book that does magic things.

There are about five subplots running through the entire movie, which makes the film a bit confused due to the amount of secondary characters. They all contribute to the story to lesser or greater degrees (and some made me cry). The story lines all weave together to fit into the main story line at the end, if a bit confusingly.

Since Ophelia is excluded from the normal day except for her mom and the servants, she runs around doing kid stuff. She finds a passageway to a more magical land, including a sentient tree and a magical book that tells her how to complete various tasks.

This is where I start to get bothered. A whole lot of the story deals with how Ophelia acts. She's told not to do something, yet then does it. She gets warned again, and does it again. Other characters also make stupid decisions. I realize everyone is under pressure, being in a near war zone-like situation, but at times I felt I was watching a horror movie where the characters decide "Hey, it would be a great idea to split up right about now".

I won't go into anymore detail, because you should see this film. The visuals are stunning, the FX are great. The problems I had with the film may not even bother you in the least. And as silly as I thought it was, I loved the ending (this one of those crying parts).

A must see and buy. I have it, and have watched it several times. I took off points for the irritating parts. Several people have told me I am overly critical about this, but this is how I feel about the film.

District 9 (2009,  R)
District 9
Late summer is typically dumping grounds for forgettable blockbuster wannabes and never-weres (see: G.I. Joe), but this August is a bit different. With A Perfect Getaway working surprisingly well last week and Inglorious Basterds coming soon, audiences have a variety of quality choices to choose from. But it's District 9 that will likely emerge as the out-of-left-field winner, a slick sci-fi action-drama out of South Africa with few recognizable actors and a budget of only $30 million.

District 9 is set in Johannesburg, where, 20 years ago, a gigantic spacecraft appeared overhead. After weeks of no contact, the government finally went inside and discovered a species that were soon dubbed "prawns" for their shellfish-like appearance. For their own health and safety, they were relocated to a slum district of the city. Over the years, however, the city and much of the world has turned against the seemingly chaotic creatures, setting up a new form of apartheid and isolating the creatures. In response to increasing unrest, the government has hired a private firm to go in and relocate the creatures to District 10, an area 200 miles away. Needless to say, moving 1.8 million aliens will not be as easy as everyone thinks.

Directed and co-written by Neill Blomkamp, District 9 is a feat on its own, a visual feast that blends shaky cam footage with interviews, security footage and other camera forms to create a "documentary" of the events that unfolded over the course of a few days following the attempted removal of aliens from District 9. Once again, we have proof that huge blockbusters don't have to be made for $200 million, as the miniscule budget utilized here has resulted in fairly strong performances, a good screenplay and excellent special effects. The aliens, technology and what was actually filmed blend perfectly together, and that combination leads to a visceral, realistic experience.

With a movie like this, which is unique in many ways, it would have been easy to slip into cheesiness. The movie is, after all, about prawn-like aliens interacting with humans, but in a gritty, real-world setting. For the film to work, audiences have to believe that this could be possible, and Blomkamp pulls such a thing off with flying colors. The aliens have a great design and look authentic, with lots of moving, fluid parts. Their language, defined by clicks, pops and subtitles, works. And the atmosphere where they reside, a dirty slum of Johannesburg, is a surprisingly perfect place for this film to be set. Would the same story have worked if the ship had appeared over New York or some other American city? I highly doubt it.

But special effects, setting and even acting can only go so far. Any movie, even a movie like this, needs a plot, and that's where District 9 falters just a bit. Sure, the movie is an allegory to apartheid and discrimination, but that's an underlying theme, not the make-it-or-break-it story. Even the eviction of 1.8 million prawns from District 9 isn't the main story, and this is where I got caught. My expectation going into the film - even after the first 15 minutes or so - was that this movie was going to be about humans going into the district, assuming an easy eviction, and being faced with a massive and brutal resistance. The last two-thirds of the movie would be one long battle sequence.

Maybe this was an unrealistic expectation, and maybe the result would have been a bit cliché, but District 9, while good, bored me in a few parts. The movie focuses almost exclusively on one man named Wikus Van De Merwe, the head of the eviction campaign, played by first-time actor Sharlto Copley. Copley turns in a fine performance, but his character is annoying as hell. I didn't really buy into his transition from geeky office guy to struggling hero and fugitive, and this transition is what the movie is all about. It's hard to love a movie when you don't like the main character and were hoping for something more explosive earlier on. Frankly, it takes way too long to get to the really good stuff.

That being said, when the good stuff arrives, audiences are treated to one of the best third acts of any movie this year. The third act is exciting, action-packed and brutally spectacular. McG should watch for lessons on how he should have done Terminator Salvation.

Ultimately, my disappointment of District 9 comes down to false expectations. I expected one thing and got another. Should I watch this film again - and I will watch it again at some point - I more than likely will enjoy it much more, as I won't be waiting for an hour for something incredible to happen. Nevertheless, District 9 is a fast-paced, entertaining and visually thrilling film that just isn't quite as good as it could have been.
