From Russia With Love - PG Definitely the sexiest Bond movies ever made and one of the top five Bond movies ever. Personally, my favorite Sean Connery 007 role and certainly one of the best cinematography jobs in the franchise. Sweeping and almost epic. If you didn't fall in love or get aroused by Daniela Bianchi you are either blind or a gay male. Robert Shaw was by far the best 007 baddie of the bunch. What a badass. December 19, 2009

Akeelah and the Bee - PG One of purest movies to come out in the last decade and one of the best original stories to be produced lately. Director Dough Atchison and youngster Keke Palmer give us something to treasure...IF...you are in the mood for it. It is a massive feel-good movie. Just be warned that it will make you smile. And Booker from Revenge of the Nerds is a principal!!!! December 19, 2009

Snakes on a Plane - R One of the best comedies I've ever seen. Samuel L. must've gotten one hell of a paycheck! December 19, 2009

The Rocky Horror Picture Show - R If you're not on the same wavelength as someone who loves this movie and subsequent live musicals that pop up every Halloween, then you won't get it or like it. The first time I saw it and saw Tim Curry in fishnets and garters I was like "Holy Crap What the Hell am I Watching?!!" But it grew on me and now I go see it live every year with my friends though watching the people in the audience is more the fun part for me than watching the actual movie. Susan Sarandon look hot as hellfire in this movie. And where the hell did Barry Bostwick go? Is he under a rock. December 19, 2009

Hairspray - PG I remember seeing this with my mom. She loved it and so did I. December 19, 2009

High School Musical - Unrated I can understand why teens like this. Personally, I could care less. It's full of young actors and actresses who in 10 years will be appearing on VH-1 talking about their struggles with drug addiction/sex scandals/mental breakdowns. I watched it ONLY because I was in a hospital room and I had a choice between watching it and going No. 2 in my bedpan. I did both. December 19, 2009

Glory Road - PG A decent basketball movie and sort of a racial-barrier Hoosiers, though if you're a Kentucky basketball fan it does paint legendary UK Adolph Rupp as a bit of a racist. The whole state of Kentucky holds Rupp in the same regard as God so to make him look anything less than what they believe is going to draw ire. But a good movie about overcoming racial barriers. That Texas Western team (which is now UTEP) was really, really good and deserved to win. December 19, 2009

The Beastmaster - PG The prospect of Marc Singer in a loin cloth for 2 hours was just too much for me to take and Rip Torn as an evil sorceror? Why didn't they cast Rodney Dangerfield? You want to know what's sad? I actually saw this in the cinema. It sucked then and it sucks now. The best part of the movie are those little ferrets John Amos carrys around. December 19, 2009

Invincible - PG Not a bad football movie, though Hollywood-ized to make it more dramatic. The idea an ordinary Joe, especially a garbage man, making an NFL roster is preposterous. It's like a homeless guy making the New York Yankees or Manchester United team. But it was based on a true story so you have that element of amazement when viewing. Too bad they chose Marky Mark Wahlberg. He's a good supporting role actor but is terrible at carrying a movie and it shows. Greg Kinnear as coach Dick Vermeil was excellent. December 19, 2009

The Greatest Game Ever Played - PG A decent feel-good movie for your family. Not much character work being that this is the cliched premise of "poor man overcoming odds to beat the rich snobs". If you're a true fan of golf a must-see. I thought it was mildly entertaining in that I knew very little about the 1913 U.S. Open. December 19, 2009

A Midnight Clear - R If you're leery about viewing a typical cliched World War II movie I highly reccomend you put that sentiment aside and rent this film. Yes, this takes place on the German lines during WWII and is in all intents and purposes a war movie (complete with shooting and death), but the storyline has really nothing to do with the war itself as much as non-human casualties and collateral damage of war. That damage including how war can destroy hope, goodness, mercy, goodwill toward men (and Christmas for that matter). Highly underrated and obscure. Don't expect a warm and fuzzy ending, even if it takes place at Christmastime. A great cast and a movie that will leave you feeling not in the mood for the holidays that's for sure. Jumper - PG-13 Ok, I'm a Star Wars fan so I will give anyone who has the balls to try to play a young Darth Vader a break. I've tried HARD to give Hayden Christensen a break and briefly, he made me proud with how he portrayed the fallen Anakin Skywalker in SW Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. He was awesome. BUT....every other role (excluding maybe Life is a House) has been crap. I was utterly unimpressed with him in this movie. The premise was ok and it had Samuel L. Jackson playing a villain. How can you go wrong there? But they manage it. Maybe it was the script. Maybe it was director Doug Liman. Maybe Hayden can't act afterall as a lot of his critics say. All I know is that this movie was not good. At all. Boring dialogue that relies too heavily on special effects and not enough substance. December 19, 2009

Next - PG-13 What happens when a director/producer takes a good idea, but they're not smart enough to know the idea can stand on its own merits and strength without overcomplicating it. That's what this film was, an overcomplicated mess that really defeated its own purpose. First the guy has a vision. Then he has a vision within a vision. Then he has a vision within a vision within a vision that may or may not be important because the guy can't make up his friggin' mind. If you like the whole doomsday nuke-going-off-in-a-major-city scenario and the tense struggle to stop it, then this will be entertaining for you. Nicolas Cage is the same person in every movie. He's Nicolas Cage the person. His roles rarely stretch past his own personality constraints. The special effects and futuristic apocalypse visions were pretty cool. But I found this movie entirely anticlimatic and ruined because they tried to create an original ending but in the end just defeated the purpose of the entire effort. Sad. P.S. Jessica Biel is hot. Electric Dreams - PG One of the toilet roles Virginia Madsen took before Sideways saved her sorry hide. Utter crap. December 18, 2009

Fargo - R One of the 50 greatest movies ever. Delightfully mirthy and dark with very good acting, dialogue and a fanastic story. The movie that launched the Coen Brothers careers and invented a movie genre all its own (i.e. the mirthy mind-fu#@). Awesome, awesome, awesome. You might also start talking with that Canadian/North Dakota accent after viewing. Just a warning. December 18, 2009

Chup Chup Ke - Unrated Debt isn't enough to kill yourself over. If that were the case there'd be 100 million dead people in the U.S. alone. It's like The Phantom Menace, people don't watch movies about taxes and debt. Let Michael Moore produce that crap. December 18, 2009

The Astronaut Farmer - PG I usually avoid Billy Bob Thornton when he's trying to be honorable because, I know, deep-down-inside, he's not in real life. But I was amazed how well he played the hero in this film. A great movie to watch with your grandma on a Saturday night. December 18, 2009

Ghost Rider - PG-13 Nick Cage with his head on fire is still Nick Cage. I read the comic books and felt they could've gotten someone edgier for this role. Cage just isn't what I expect Ghost Rider to be. And why the hell did they cast Eva Mendes? She is SUCH a buzzkill. Overall a decent comic-book to cinema adaptation but it could have been SOOO much more. December 18, 2009

The Number 23 - R Maybe the creepiest movie Carrey has done since The Cable Guy. A bit odd and seemingly ripped off by the TV show "Numbers" If you're in the mood of seeing Jim Carrey in a role unlike anything he's ever done rent this one. It won't disappoint. December 18, 2009

Derailed - R An intelligent, edgy, plausible and superbly acted thriller. I really wish Jennifer Aniston would do more roles like this. She was seductive and does hard-edged drama really well. Clive Owen is at his best in roles like this, edgy but vulnerable. You will never see the plot twists coming, even when you think you've got the movie figured out. Brilliantly written and directed and very stylish. Even the rap stars looked somewhat viable in their roles. Vincent Cassel is one of those actors I want to punch in the face so he naturally makes a great villain. December 18, 2009

Swimfan - PG-13 Ericka Christensen turned in a phenomenal role in Traffic so I knew she could act and she turned in a decent wack-job performance for this movie. I was concerned this was nothing more than a remake of The Crush with Alicia Silverstone and I was wrong. It was actually worse. But Christensen was far more menacing. However, this was overall nothing more than a schmaltzy teen romp where good looking young actors and actresses get killed or maimed seriously by the school psychopath. Who the hell is Jesse Bradford by the way? December 18, 2009

The Swimmer - PG One of the more perplexing and mind-blowing movies of the 1960s and one of Burt Lancaster's more controversial roles. The guy who goes from pool to pool on his way home but he has no home since he's ruined it with infidelity and alienating his loved ones. There is no ending but it leaves the viewer to discern the ending on his/her own. People will either love it or hate it. I couldn't help but come away with a feeling of dread after watching this film. I felt awful for Burt Lancaster's character. He appears truly lost. Some parts are over the top and odd, but it's still unsettling and powerful. December 18, 2009

The Way of the Gun - R In essence, this film is a true-blue western, only with a present-day setting. The shootouts and drama are very similar to an old-school western. Even the town the final gun battle takes place was the same town they filmed the final shootout in A Fistful of Dollars by Sergio Leone. They even use the same music. Del Toro and Ryan Phillippe are fantastic together and the addition of gruff James Caan adds to the cast's strength. Very edgy, very cool and very well-put together. Seriously underrated.
