  1. mpghoul1973
  2. mike

For as long as i can remember ive been obsessed with film. These lists of favorites are in no particular order. Also because alot of my lists have films that have poped up on other lists of mine, ive edited most of my lists so that they arent containing the same films every time. So be sure to check out all of my lists. They all contain films i consider favorites!!

  mpghoul1973's Rating My Rating
1
Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974,  R)
Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia
Warren Oats takes the front in Peckinpahs modern day western. Possibly my fav. Peckinpah film.
2
Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes (Aguirre, the Wrath of God) (1972,  Unrated)
Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes (Aguirre, the Wrath of God)
Herzog and Kinski's masterpeice. Dreamy and unsettling. Kinski is so intense to watch. One of my all time favorite films. Geurilla filmmaking at its best. Herzog risks his life and the life of his crew to bring about this beautiful film.
3
Venus in Furs (1970,  R)
Venus in Furs
Venus in Furs could easily be considered Franco's best film. It is breath takingly beautiful. The film has a surreal quality to it, that it evokes a haunting emotion that stays with you. There are some shots that may be the best in any Franco film. The Manfred Mann ultra cool jazz score is incredible. Maria Rohm is so freaking gorgous here. She's been in alot of Franco films but the impression she leaves you with in Venus in Furs is part of that haunting feeling you take away. She's fantastic here. And so is James Darren. Klaus Kinski has a small important role. I would like to say he was under used here, he's only in a couple scenes, but hes not. The story sticks with the characters its supposed to stick with.
This is as good as any of Francos best. And it is now a struggle for me to choose an absolute favorite Franco film. But this is a leading candidate!
4
Le Doulos (1962,  Unrated)
Le Doulos
Le Doulos is fucking amazing. It may be my favorite Noir yet. Its a 1962 French film but wears its allegiance to American Film Noir proudly on its sleeve. The b&w photography is gorgeous. Its new wave Euro flair gives this one an edge in comparison to most of the American Film Noir's that i have seen.
Le Doulos is full of some of France's more unique looking actors. Serge Reggiani is almost the spitting image of Rowan Atkinson. It was hard to not think it everytime i saw him.
The violence is almost shocking at times. Theres a great scene were a car is driven off a rocky cliff...in one take we see it plummet over the ledge, smash against the rocks below and as it impacts a body flies out of it 35 feet into the air. Unbelievable. I was cheering loudly in the theatre i saw it in.
Great dialogue, action, twists and turns and double crosses.
5
Ultimo Tango a Parigi (Last Tango in Paris) (1972,  NC-17)
Ultimo Tango a Parigi (Last Tango in Paris)
Brando is a lost soul in this, possibly the greatest film ever. highly erotic and powerful story.
6
Femina ridens (The Frightened Woman) (The Laughing Woman) (1971,  Unrated)
Femina ridens (The Frightened Woman) (The Laughing Woman)
Femina Ridens is one of the most interesting Giallos ive ever watched. Its visually stunning giving Bava and Kubrick a run for their money. Seriously! This film is visually orgasmic in its late 60's S & M pop art look. And the psycho sexual content is incredibly delicious. Dagmar Lassander portrays victim-predator with doe eyed innocents, one cant help falling into her web. One watching her dance with the unraveling gauze dress will know exactly what iam talking about. This is a masterpiece and needs to be seen. I cant help but think that other than Blood and Black Lace this was the most important pre-Argento Giallo. And a prime example of how Europeans were way ahead of Americans in film making in the 60's.
7
The Great Silence (Il Grande silenzio) (1968,  Unrated)
The Great Silence (Il Grande silenzio)
Possibly the best spaghetti western outside of the Leone bunch. Sergio Corbucci injects this film full of dread and unpredictable resolutions. The setting is so unique to the spaghetti western climate. It all takes place in a blizzard ravaged mountain village. The snow cover territory adds a touch of surreal beauty.
The ever reliable Klaus Kinski is as intense in the role of the bounty hunter, Loco, as he is with his roles in Herzog films. Jean-Louis Tritignant has to carry his role as the great mercenary known as Silence without ever speaking a single word or cry. Amazing on his part, for he brings alot to the character of Silence. I love how he shoots peoples thumbs off. Great concept. The Great Silence also benifits from having the talents of Ennio Morricone and Bruno Nicholi score the film. The score is perfect. The main theme is so freakin cool. I have to get my filthy paws on a copy of it A.S.A.P!!!
With an ending that left my jaw dropping to the floor, The Great Silence has fast become one of my all time favorite films. Highly recommended!!!!!
8
There Will Be Blood (2007,  R)
There Will Be Blood
If i had to think of one word to describe this film it would probably be 'sinister'. Even the score has a sinister sound. But one thing is for sure! There Will Be Blood is P.T. Andersons masterpeice! His directing ability has jumped many leaps above were he was before..and he was definatly no slouch before. In Fact i have pretty much loved all of his past films from Hard 8 to Punch Drunk Love. (Although the latter is a love hate relationship.) But it seems like the long time he took off between Punch Drunk and this was spent mentally honing his directing skills. This film is sure to give P.T. all the creative freedom he needs for future projects. This film is fucking amazing! Daniel Day-Lewis owns the best actor Oscar in my opinion. If he doesnt win.. there will be blood! Iam pretty sure this film will have haters of the ending. But Like No Country For Old Men, i think the ending is fucking perfect. And there couldnt be two better films to duke it out at this years big Hollywood political event..the Oscars.
Films dont get much more perfect than this. I think i can honestly say this is the best movie ive seen in a year! And ive seen alot of great films.
9
Dawn of the Dead (1979,  R)
Dawn of the Dead
Probably the only epic horror film ever made. Incredibly intelligent as you watch the societal breakdown starting with the poor in ghettos. Total comic book horror with a realistic touch. screw the remake. The original had a genius like Mr. Romero behind it.
10
Raging Bull (1980,  R)
Raging Bull
RAging Bull is one of Scorsese's best films. Next to Taxi Driver it might be his best. Ditto w/ DeNiro. This film is like watching the greatest ballet take place on a mine feild. Its so well done. The camera work and editing is dazzling! The musical score just adds that air of class to a film about a very non-classy character. LaMotta is a freakin animal full of anger and jealousy. And pity the poor bastard who LaMotta takes it out on.
And Pesci is without a doubt the best supporting player in the buisness! Ild love to see these three guys do One more movie together.
American cinema at its finest!
11
The Tenant (1976,  R)
The Tenant
My favorite Polanski "horror" film. Watching Polanski, who cast himself in the lead, go through his mental breakdown is unsettling. And when he's at his peak into madness Polanski the director uses some really simple perspective shoots that leave you totally amazed. This film is truly a magnifecent ride into madness. Chockfull of looney characters. Brilliant filmmaking. Polanski at his finest!
12
Kill, Baby, Kill (Operazione paura) (Curse of the Living Dead) (Don't Walk in the Park) (1966,  PG)

Another beautiful film from Bava. Well paced and great story. My personal fav. in the Bava library.
13
Female Trouble (1974,  R)
Female Trouble
This is John Waters at his tasteless best! Divine plays Dawn Davenport. Teenage deliquent who runs away from home and turns to a life of crime, after not receiving a pair of shoes with ChaCha heels on Christmas day.
This film is sooo wrong on many levels. I love it!!

Great spanish film has Bloody nuns on fire!
17
Midnight Cowboy (1969,  R)
Midnight Cowboy
One of the greatest "New" Hollywood films. Hoffamn is so incredible as the limp legged "Ratso" Rico Rizzo. Incredible acting on Hoffamns part. He creates a sleazy sympathetic character. Its great the releationship that builds between the two characters. The other being Voight's hustling cowboy.
Midnight Cowboy is by far one of the finest films ever made.
18
Let Sleeping Corpses Lie(Non si deve profanare il sonno dei morti)(Don't Open the Window) (1974,  R)

Onibaba
Beautiful! Fantastic film about a mother and her daughter in law who turn into predators in 16 or 17 century Japan. Some of the most beautiful cinamatography ever.

Emperor of the North Pole (Emperor of the North) (1973,  PG)
Emperor of the North Pole (Emperor of the North)
Ernest Borgnine plays a sadistic train conducter. Marvin plays a hard as nails hobo determined to ride Borgnines train.
32
Night of the Living Dead (1968,  Unrated)
Night of the Living Dead
Night Of The Living Dead has the best opening setup for a horror film, ever! It sets the mood perfectly. Its a full on assault of the senses. The cast is brilliantly played by virtual unknowns...at the time. Judith O'Dea is amazing to watch go from calm to hysterical to full blown basket case over the course of the film.
What can be said about this film that hasnt already been said. Its a perfect film from start to finish. Horror doesnt get much better than this and neither does film for that matter. One of my all time favorite i can watch over and over and never get sick of. The perfect horror film!
33
The Curse of Frankenstein (1957,  Unrated)
The Curse of Frankenstein
The first film in Hammers Frankenstein series. Curse is basically a meat and potatoes version of the Shelly classic. And the first film to kick of the trade mark gothic horror Hammer studios were known for.
Peter Cushing really bites into his role as the obsessive Baron Frankenstein. And Christopher Lees Monster is truely scary! The first time we actually see him is one of the most frightning scenes in a horror film.
Hammer horror is more than just horror films. They had a dose of class and sophistication to them. And their whole series of Frankenstein films staring Cushing were the best.
34
Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed (1969,  PG-13)
Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed
Cushing decent into madness is at its peak! Great shot in the film were a woman is forced to hide a body and the local authorities show up.
35

36
Andy Warhol's Frankenstein (Flesh for Frankenstein) (1974,  R)
Andy Warhol's Frankenstein (Flesh for Frankenstein)
Andy Warhol had nothing to do with this film! Udo Keir plays a great Dr. Frankenstein. Bloody and perverted!

Lone Wolf and Cub - Baby Cart in the Land of Demons (Kozure Ôkami: Meifumadô) (1973,  Unrated)
Lone Wolf and Cub - Baby Cart in the Land of Demons (Kozure Ôkami: Meifumadô)
Every time i see another entry in this series i honestly have to fight off the urge to punch holes in my walls. The Lone Wolf and Cub films are honestly one of the best series of films ive ever seen. Aside from the action the cinematography is jaw dropping, the acting is right on and the musical scores are awsome.
Baby Cart In the Land Of Demons is the fifth and one of the best entries in the series. The end battle is nothing short of amazing. The fight coreography is some of the best sword fights yet. The story set up is freakin great. Ogami Itto must battle five messengers, each with 100 gold peices and 1/5 of the information of his job hes been hired to carry out. There is one defeated messenger in particular who delivers his message while on fire. Incredible!
Always fresh and never retreading the same story.
62
Lone Wolf and Cub - Baby Cart to Hades (Kozure Ôkami: Shinikazeni mukau ubaguruma) (1997,  Unrated)
Lone Wolf and Cub - Baby Cart to Hades (Kozure Ôkami: Shinikazeni mukau ubaguruma)
The third film in what has to be one of the coolest film series, Baby Cart to Hades is full of brutal Samurai action. Ogami Itto is without a doubt one of the coolest badass's to ever wield a sword and push a babycart! He takes on whole armies of Samurai and Ninjas. And shows no fear even in the face of possible death.
Every time i watch an entry for the first time in this filmseries of 6 films, Iam amazed that these films are not more popular than they are. Every one ive seen so far is fantastic. These are my favorite Samurai films . Each one has a great story. Gritty, Stylish and always full of arterial spray. I cant wait to watch the last two films.
63
Lone Wolf and Cub - White Heaven in Hell (Kozure Ôkami: Jigoku e ikuzo! Daigoro) (1974,  Unrated)
Lone Wolf and Cub - White Heaven in Hell (Kozure Ôkami: Jigoku e ikuzo! Daigoro)
The final film in The Lone Wolf and Cub series is a bit of a departure from the rest of the series, in tone. There's alot of horror injected into this one, and its very effective. Definatly giving this one a fresh feel. There are mystic warriors who travel by burrowing through the ground. The atmosphere is thick at times lending a real creepy presence to the film.
One a bit of a down note...the score sucks! The main theme is like a horrible Shaft theme. And the rest of the score is uninspired. The ending was a let down too. Having watched one of the coolest set ups in the series. One would of expected the film to climax with the enthusiasm that preceeded it. But alas it became the same old same old.
White Heaven In Hell is still a kick ass entry in the coolest film series and iam saddened it has come to an end. I hope Shreik Show still plans on releasing the t.v. series that followed.

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986,  NC-17)
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
Truely disturbing.

I just watched this again after many many years. Its one of the best "serial Killer" films around. Loosly based on the real exploits of Henry Lee Lucas and Otis Toole. Since i fist saw this 18 years ago, ive always associated Tom Towles and Michael Rooker with these roles. Its hard not too still see them as Henry and Otis. Espeacially Otis. This is one fucked up film.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Another fav in the Bond series. George Lazenby takes over the role of Bond for 1 movie. Telly Savalis is Blofeld. This film took Bond back to the original tone of the first couple films with that there was no gadgets. Great spy film. Lazenby should of been Bond for more films.

GoldenEye
Brosnans first film as Bond. Horrible score though. But a great comeback for Bond.
92
Casino Royale (2006,  PG-13)
Casino Royale
One of the best Bond films in the last 30 years. Casino Royale is the film us Bond fans have been longing for. Its been a long time since there was a entry in the series were Bond was a total badass! Daniel Craig portrayes Bond better than anyone since Lazenby did him for OHMSS. Not to mention we get the best Bond villian, Le Chiffre, since Savalis did Blofeld.
This film set out to restart the Bond films with grit and guts. And it succeeds on all levels. I cant wait to see more Daniel Craig Bond films. And i think they should make Martin Cambell the man who directs the next couple of Bond films. He did a stellar job with Goldeneye and he returns to do an even better job with Casino Royale. He can be what Terrence Young and Guy Hamilton were to the series.
Jeffrey Wright is no Jack Lord; but he does a great job portraying Felix Leiter. A character ive missed for a while now.
Highly recommended to anyone who loves their Bond films served up with a warm bowl of grit!
93

I totally forgot how good this film is. I just watched it for the first time in ...14 years... Michele Soavi was at one time the man to keep an eye on in the Italian horror film. His return to filmmaking in the last couple years, after a loooong hiatus, is greatly welcomed!
Dellamorte Dellamore is a great horror/black comedy/art house film.

Twin Peaks - Fire Walk with Me
My first visit to Twin Peaks was kicked off here. After falling in love with the film i seeked out the series. Fell in love with the series then looked back on this film with disappointment.
I realize now the film is still brilliant. Its just that this film doesnt shed any light on what we dont know.
Lynch provides some truley scary moments . Visually beautiful, well acted and it has an awsome score by Badalementi. Underrated Lynch film.
139
Napoleon Dynamite (2004,  PG)
Napoleon Dynamite
I just re-watched this film after only seeing it once. It has some of the funniest supporting characters in a recent comedy film. Napoleon is funny but has a couple stupid characteristics..."gosh". But Uncle Rico, Brother Kip and freind Padro had me laughing hard everytime they were on the screen.

145
Escape from New York (1981,  R)
Escape from New York
Exellent sci-fi film. Russell exudes coolness. And his "fuck the system" attitude makes this character memorable. Carpenter was in top form during this era.

Opera (1987,  Unrated)
Opera
Argentos giallo is like a film of his greatest hits. This film is loaded with style. And the slo-mo bullet in his ex wifes eye is something to behold.
This is the only film were he uses a heavy metal soundtrack and its not distracting.

155
Jacob's Ladder (1990,  R)
Jacob's Ladder
Now this is how horror is done! I love this film and every time i see it, iam reminded how brilliant it is. Other than the casting of that Home Alone kid, this film is perfect. Robbins gives the best performance of his career. And Lyne does a great job never letting Jacob or the veiwer get comfortable for a moment.
156
The Evil Dead (1981,  NC-17)
The Evil Dead
When i initially saw this I was totally let down by the hype i had heard about it when it came out. But...i gave it a second chance not but a mere day later and i realized this is one of the greatest examples of comic book horror. Its not scary like i was told it was. It was fun and creepy and sick. And it still is. In fact it gets better as the years pass. Worthy of its reputation amongst horror aficianados!
157

The Shining (1980,  R)
The Shining
Kubrick make large open spaces claustrophobic and scary! Incredible performances and a score thats as scary as the film! A classic.
168
Sin City (2005,  R)
Sin City
Stylish. Probably the first full length film from Rodriguez that i actually loved. Not that hes a shit director, i just never saw anything by him that demanded his reputation. But this is definatly the film worthy of giving him cult status. Willis, Rourke and Owen all kick major ass here.
169
A Clockwork Orange (1971,  R)
A Clockwork Orange
A freakin masterpeice. One of the greatest films ever made!
170
Lost In Translation (2003,  R)
Lost In Translation
Lost in Translation is one my favorite films. I just rewatched it for the fifth time, as my girlfriend had never seen it before. And it gets better and better each veiwing!
The film feels so natural. The chemistry between Murray and Johansson is intense. Murray is one of my favorite actors. Even when hes serious, i laugh. There something about him? But i feel his performance in LIT is probably his finest to date.
Some may find this film to be dull, but i find every minute of it to be incredible.
Exellent job by Ms. Coppola! In my top 20 of all time.
171
The Passion of the Christ (2004,  R)
The Passion of the Christ

Pulp Fiction
Will always be Tarintinos classic. not my personal fav by him but still one of the coolest films ever.
174
The Ninth Gate (1999,  R)
The Ninth Gate
Polanski is a master storyteller. Great film. Depp is fantastic as the seedy book detective.
I dont care what people say the ending is perfect.
175
The Hills Have Eyes (1977,  R)
The Hills Have Eyes
very sleazy and gritty. Craven had it goin on early in his carrer.
176
Star Wars (,  PG)
177
The Straight Story (1999,  G)
The Straight Story
one of the most beautiful touching films ive ever seen. David Lynch actually films his first straight film. Which is a sign of his true genius. There are still moments of total Lynch surrealism. Richard Farnsworth's suicide following the release of this film makes his role that more powerful! I get a lump in my throat whenever i watch this incredible film. He portrays such a gentle person. And he suffered a great deal in making this film. And Angelo Badalamenti's score is just as beautiful and touching to listen to. One of my all time favorite films.
178
Point Blank (1967,  Unrated)
Point Blank
Wow! This is probably THE ULTIMATE Lee Marvin film. And along with Get Carter, the ultimate revenge film.
Tough dialogue, incredible fights and Marvin ozzes badass! Oh yea, its a John Boorman film also!
They dont make them like they used too!
179
Rashômon (Rashomon) (In the Woods) (1951,  Unrated)
Rashômon (Rashomon) (In the Woods)
incredible filmmaking!
180
Femme Fatale (2002,  R)
Femme Fatale
De Palma's most stylish film in ages. This is one of the most gorgeous films to look at. Enhanced by a incredible score, i gotta get it as soon as possible!!
The plot is almost unimportant to the visual orgasm this film gives. But its a film that has more going on in it than one is to beleive after the first veiwing. This is one of those see it many times over films. De Palma is once again playing on the dual identity idea he so does masterfully.
Rebecca Romijn Stamos suffers in the acting dept in some scenes but over all does a fine job. But man does she look gorgeous and De Palma had a feild day filming her!
181
Vertigo (1958,  PG)
Vertigo
This incredible Pschological thriller is an absolute masterpeice. Why it has taken me all these years to finally watch it is NOW beyond me! (i just watched it this morning for the first time!!)
James Stewart is absolutly fantastic in his role as the acrophobic detective. His acting range blows me away with this role!
The opening scene is trully horrifying as the cop, who turns to help a stranded Stewert out, falls to his death.
Its easy to see how inspiring this film was to other film makers. Espeacialy De Palma who has made numerous films dealing with identity.
Vertigo is brimming with style. Hitchcock, trully was a Master at the art of filmmaking.
Thank you Mr. Gildea!
182
Street Trash (1986,  Unrated)
Street Trash
This is not a film from Troma. But it feels like one. And if it were a Troma film, it would be one of their best!
This film is more about the lives of whino- bums living in a junk yard. But theres a sub plot involving a mysterious liquor called Tenefly Viper. That when drank, the drinker melts in glorious technicolor. This film is pretty offensive. Theres a scary rape involving a drunk girl and the whole community of junkyard bums. Were she then winds up dead, only to have her corpse raped by the fat ass who runs the junk yard!
One of the funniest scenes and my favorite part is the bum who puts chicken down his pants. Sooo fuckin funny.
183
Bonnie and Clyde (1967,  R)
Bonnie and Clyde
An important film in American film history. Bonnie and Clyde is a violent and often funny gangster film. Faye Dunaway is magnifecent as the notorious Bonnie Parker. The relationship between the two characters is touching. Beatty's impotent Clyde is full of charisma and gusto.
Great cast includes Gene Hackman, Gene Wilder and Michael J Pollard who almost steals the show from Beaty and Dunaway.
184
El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) (2006,  R)
El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth)
Pans Labrynth is AMAZING! Its about as good as anything ive seen in recent years. It is dark, magical, sad and often very violent. Its about as good as it gets. Amazing cinematography, exellent speacial effects top notch acting and the coolest fairies ever put on celluloid! I cant wait to see it again! Gets my vote for the most original film in years.
185
The Night of the Hunter (1955,  PG)
The Night of the Hunter
Scary and twisted. Night of the Hunter is a classic. Even a masterpeice. The image of Shelly Winters under the water is as beautiful as it is haunting. This film has a surreal theatrical look to it. Almost fairy tail like.
Robert Mitchum is incredible as the evil preacher with love and hate tattooed on his knuckles. Shelly Winters also is in top form as the desperate widow.
I would of loved to of seen Laughton direct more films. But as it stands the one film he did make is possibly one of the greatest films ever made!
186
Touch of Evil (1958,  PG-13)
Touch of Evil
exellent film noir. great cast and as always a good solid seedy story.
187
Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht (Nosferatu the Vampyre) (1979,  PG)
Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht (Nosferatu the Vampyre)
Herzogs remake is like a dream. One of my favorite interpretations of the story. Very stylish.
188
Rebel Without a Cause (1955,  PG-13)
Rebel Without a Cause
Rebel Without a Cause is brilliant. It story of teenage youth, lost and in trouble, holds up just as as well today as it did when released. Every one should see this at least once!
189
The Last Picture Show (1971,  R)
The Last Picture Show
exellent portraight of teens comming up in a small Texas town. Exellent cast. Espeacialy Cloris Leachman, whom iam used to seeing in comedies, turns in a great dramatic performance. And its great to see Ben Johnson in the suitable role of Sam the Lion.
I havnt heard many good things about the sequel, Texasville, But my curiosity haas been peaked.
190
When the Levees Broke (2006,  Unrated)
When the Levees Broke
Documentary mini series on HBO about the Katrina hurricane catastrophy and the lack of responce from the U.S. govt. in New Orleans. Its a very gut wrenching documentary to watch! It angers me so, to think about how careless and uncoperative the Govt. was and still is towards the people of New Orleans, AMERICAN CITIZENS!! Especially when you see and hear stories of people trying to escape the nightmare, only to be turned back by armed forces who were gonna shoot anyone who tried to cross a bridge that led out of New Orleans!
Made up of testimonials from the people who lived through the Katrina incedent, When The Levees Broke is a hard watch but a very important watch! It reaffirms my lack of faith in the powers that rule and dictate. And it drives that point home well.
I give this four stars, not because of its entertainment value...there nothing entertaining about watching footage of people on the brink of death, but because this is the most powerful documentary ive ever seen!
191
Zodiac (2007,  R)
Zodiac
WOW! Incredible filmmaking on David Finchers part. But then again i expected that from the man who brought us Fight Club and Se7en. Great cast of supporting players. And the sight of the Zodiac killer dressed in his hooded "uniform" is a scary sight. And the stabbing that follows that sight is very unpleasant to watch. the most brutal stabbings ive ever seen filmed....next to the stabbings in Charlies Family from Jim Van Bebber.
Its so damn horrifying that they basically had the guy but because of police protacal and no second opinions this guy got away with murder.
Zodiac is extremly well made and it ranks up there with some of the best films as of recent.
192
Black Snake Moan (2007,  R)
Black Snake Moan
I really enjoyed the hell out of this film. Its almost like an old school exploitation film. And it never went in the direction i thought it would go, multiple times no less.
Sam Jackson is pretty damn good in a role that suits him just fine. And Cristina Ricci is SMOKIN HOT! Let me repeat...Christina Ricci is SMOKIN HOT!!! This is probably the best role ive ever seen her in!
All in all.....a very entertaining time. Although iam sure this film will earn some haters.
193
Danger: Diabolik (1968,  PG-13)
Danger: Diabolik
ultra cool Bava film. Fab sets and lighting. Bava is a genius at camera shots. Fun and campy.
194
Hulk (2003,  PG-13)
Hulk
Incredibly under-rated. This film is a masterpeice! I guess no one wanted a good story...just action? I hope people get their heads out of their asses and realize it doesnt get much better than this!
195
The Night of the Following Day (1968,  R)
The Night of the Following Day
The Night of the Following Day is a real gem! Brando ,as always, kicks major ass playing a bad guy who's the better of the bad men. Richard Boone plays a very sleazy role. This film has a weird-sleazy kinda vibe throughout. Maybe its the subject matter. Pamela Franklin plays inoccent well. And Rita Moreno plays "junked up' well. Fine performances from everyone.
One of my favorite Brando films!
196
E tu vivrai nel terrore - L'aldilà (The Beyond) (1981,  Unrated)
E tu vivrai nel terrore - L'aldilà (The Beyond)
Fulci's masterpeice! Great score by Fabio Frizzi.
197
300 (2007,  R)
300
I wasnt expecting anything more than an overstylized film. But i liked it. I think the films benifited actually from the stylization. Its hard to make a film like this and have all kinds of "creatures" and not be stylized in some way or another. I dont think it was the greatest film ever made...but definatly a very fun film. This film is one long BLOODY action sequence. Normally i would be turned off by that. But it works just fine here. I would probably see it again before it left the screen. I dont know how well it would hold up on a small screen. One complaint....this is a very LOUD film.
198
Tenebre, (Unsane) (1982,  Unrated)
Tenebre, (Unsane)
Slick, hyper-violent 80's Giallo from Argento. Great twists and beautiful camera work. I just rewatched this for the ...geez...8th time. The pounding "Goblin" score is incredible and one of my favs from them. (actually its not an offishal Goblin score...but three of the members from goblin) John Saxon is a great supporting character...and i always get a laugh when he shows off the stability of his hat! Not only does this film have the gloved killer but god damnit if it doesnt have the most acrobatic Doberman in the world! Tenebre also has one of the greatest blood spraying senes ever. As the walls just get painted with that crimson stuff!
199
L'uccello dalle piume di cristallo (The Bird With the Crystal Plumage) (1970,  PG)
L'uccello dalle piume di cristallo (The Bird With the Crystal Plumage)
Argento's first film is a great one. The Bird With The Crystal Plummage shows the beginings of the style Argento would be recognized for.
Things are not always what they seem in this great giallo. Great suprise ending and the finale in the art gallery is incredible.
200
Non ho sonno (Sleepless) (2001,  R)
Non ho sonno (Sleepless)
Argentos late return to the giallo is a pretty satisfiying venture. Although knocked by alot of people for being like a "greatest hits" of Argento s. I find it to be a pretty solid film. From the opening triple murder to the ending. Sleepless is a good giallo film. Dont let the misleading cover art sway anyone away from this film.
201
Phenomena (Creepers) (1985,  R)
Phenomena (Creepers)
dreamy and nightmarish all at the same time. Suffers from the metal music. But regains its dignity with some of the most dazzaling camera work.
202
Eugénie (Eugenie Sex Happening) (,  R)
Eugénie (Eugenie Sex Happening)
Jess Franco's tale of innocence lost to sexual perversion and murder is loosely based on the works of De Sade. Soledad Miranda gives a great performance as the innocent Eugenie, who's obsession with the erotic works of her writer stepfather brings her to a world of incestuous perversion and acts of murder. Paul Muller and Franco regular is the stepfather. Francophiles will love this film. All others avoid. One of my personal favs from the endless Franco vault.
203
Perché quelle strane gocce di sangue sul corpo di Jennifer? (The Case of the Bloody Iris) (1972,  Unrated)
Perché quelle strane gocce di sangue sul corpo di Jennifer? (The Case of the Bloody Iris)
This is a grest example of a kick ass Giallo. Fantastic score and it also has the beautiful Edwige Fenech. A great place to start if your thinking of getting into this genre
204
Der Teufel kam aus Akasava (The Devil Came from Akasava) (1971,  Unrated)
Der Teufel kam aus Akasava (The Devil Came from Akasava)
Iam a real sucker for a Jess Franco/ Soldade Miranda film. She had a presance that demanded your attention. In typical Franco fashion Miranda uses her sexual power to its fullest. Who could blame him for wanting her to be naked as much as possible. And in addition to her stripteases he makes her a secret agent. Although her part is not as large as one would hope. The film its self isnt that bad either. Not as weird as most Franco films. though.
205
The Masque of the Red Death (1964,  R)
The Masque of the Red Death
My favorite Price-Corman-Poe film. Exellent and moody.

¿Quién puede matar a un niño? (Who Can Kill a Child?)(Death is Child's Play)(Island of the Damned) (1976,  R)
¿Quién puede matar a un niño? (Who Can Kill a Child?)(Death is Child's Play)(Island of the Damned)
Who Can Kill a Child possibly has the most grueling opening credits ever. Made up of documentary footage from concentration camp victims of WWII and other wars that followed. Mostly the footage contains child victims. My girlfreind was balling through the opening credits. God bless her for watching my movies!
Although the film starts out on a grueling note......which i too found extremly hard to watch, but focused on the subtitles, so i wasnt paying attention to detail...thank god......the middle drags a good bit.
A couple on vacation wants to get away from the tourist heavy mainland, takes a boat to an island 4 hrs. away. Once there, other than a few children the couple find the island "deserted" After a very long investigation of the island...and i mean long....the husband discovers all of the adults have been and are still being killed by the children.
This film is good but the slow middle and the frustrating decisions the husband makes prevent Who can Kill a Child from being a real gem. The husband by the way looks like a cross between "Andy Travis" from WKRP in Cincinatti and Peter Sellers. Odd.
The ending gets really fucked up as the question "WHO CAN KILL A CHILD" is answered......Andy Travis Sellers! Thats who!
The film is very gritty. And in no way is the lush style of director Narciso Ibanez Serrador earlier effort The House That Screamed apparent. But maybe it benifits from that? The House that Screamed by the way is a MASTERPEICE!
The major flaw of this film is its opening credit sequence and the hint through out of a political message.....like there would be no wars without adults or something like that. Its never a fully devloped point. And its a point that is totally unnessasary. But still the film manages to be an above average watch.

The Candy Snatchers (1973,  R)
The Candy Snatchers
A very odd mix of sleaze and camp. It was not what i expected when i first saw this film. I expected more of a straight sleaze film. But the camp adds another dimension to the film making it satand out from other exploitation film of the time. Well made and sick at times.

Inland Empire (2006,  R)
Inland Empire
First i have to start this with im a HUGE Lynch fan. Everyone of his film are favorites of mine! But Inland Empire may be my least favorite. With Inland Empire Lynch tells a story thats not easily grasped. And iam perfectly fine with that. Some of my favs are very non linear. Example : Crispin Glovers What IS it?! even Lynchs own Eraserhead. I love that freakin film. Lynch here seems more determined to evoke mood or emotions. And the only mood i had was that of discomfort. I was very uncomfortable during it. Maybe that was the way i was supposed to feel? So hes score big from me for accomplishing that. There are however some truly amazing peices in this film. One scene had me absolutly terrified. Lynch seems to be one of the only directors to be able to do that to me...wether its Bob hunched behind Laura Palmers bed in Fire Walk w/me or the Bum behind Dinnkys in Mullholand Drive. He kows frightning imagry. God damn iam still creeped out by the "teeth"!!!
One of the aspects of Lynch that i feel show in his filmmaking is that he was an artist before he began to make films. Filmmaking is just another medium for him to paint. And he does it incredibly! There is not one Lynch film that i dislike. I hold everyone of them up in high praise. Lynch along with Brian DePalma are in my honest opinion the top two American filmmakers alive. They have Grand visions. And they can both turn their style off to make very straight simple films when needed. Examples: A Straight Story and The Untouchables. And thats not easily accomplished by most.
Lynch is obssesed with distorting Identity, time and space. It is his most ambitious and experimental film to date. Its not a very pleasant film to look at. Its very dark in its lighting. It all takes place in dark hallways, dark allyways, dim light apartments etc....and the digital video he used to film it doesnt help. There is a very small story included but unlike his other films its not to be interpreted even with all the thought in the world. Its a very slow film and theres not much dialogue to keep you involved. The "doesnt make sense" aspect of the film doesnt bother me. Iam sure after multiple veiwings there could be the possibility of some minor interpretation. But after three hours of total discomfort i dont know if this one is on my list for multiple veiwings. But thats my opinion. Ive read alot of others reveiws were they think this is his best film. I dont agree....but when it comes to DVD in the summer ill give it another shot knowing what to expect.

Grindhouse (Grind House) (2007,  R)
Grindhouse (Grind House)
Grindhouse is a total blast!!! I enjoyed every minute of it! Starting with the Faux Trailer for Machete... Grindhouse keeps the tone of fun set by Machete. Planet Terror was way fun. Very slimy. Jeff Fahey's BBQ character is straight out of an old lowbudget 70's horror film. But Planet Terror felt to "new" to me, with the exeption of a great synth score. It was uber fun non the less.
Thanksgiving gets the prize for capturing the authentic feel of a low budget 70's horror film. It reminded me of the likes of I Drink Your Blood, Pieces, Dont Look in the Basement. I would of loved to have seen this one as a actual film.
Dont, Pays homage to films like The Legend of Hell House and countless other British haunted house films. It was so dead on with the type trailers you would of seen in the 70's. With the narration repeating DONT! Awsome. Zombies faux trailer was good too
Death Proof is definatly misunderstood. Ive read alot of reveiws claiming it to be too slow. Sure it was talkie but goddamn it was good. His dialogue is fun. When it comes to witty dialogue i would much rather hear witty dialogue from him then some ass-bag like Kevin Smith. Kurt Russell kicks so much ass in it. The first car wreck was Brutal!! That tire going through the chicks head!!! My god! The last 20 minutes were intense!!Tarintino really nails the exploitaion vibe! The ending felt like Faster Pussycat Kill Kill. Great stuff!! I cant wait to see it again.

What Is It? (2005,  Unrated)
What Is It?
I was fortunate enough to be able to catch this when Crispin Glover was touring it. (seeing is he's the only one with an actual copy of it!) It was a great night. He started the night off with a slideshow of some of his books. It was him onstage, with a red spotlight on him, reading from the pages projected behind him. Great performance artist!
Anyways...What Is It? is a really weird art film. Its hard to say what its about. It all takes place in the subconcious of a retarded kid. Who, by the way, is a racist and has an affinity for puting salt on slugs!? There is alot of imagry in here to make one uncomfortable. Crispin Glover also stars in this film. But the whole cast is made up of people with Down Syndrome. If Mr. Glover is ever in the area with this film.... check it out!! Itll be one of the best times of your life.

Lemora - A Child's Tale of the Supernatural (1973,  PG)
Lemora - A Child's Tale of the Supernatural
Lemora- a child tale of the supernatural is a very odd film. It has some moments of great atmosphere ( the bus ride). It subject matter is sleazy. with the part of the preacher who has fallen in love with his little angel. In fact this film is full of creepy characters.
Lemora is an ambitios film. You can really see the heart that was put into it by it director Richard Blackburn (II).
Great little latenight film with atmosphere.

Sex & Fury (1973,  R)
Sex & Fury
you got to love a film that about 10 minutes into it....the female lead, Ocho is taking a bath when there is an assasination attempt on her life. Leaping out of the tub, only wearing her birthday suit and armed with a sword, she kills everyone in a awsome bloody mess! This basically sets the tone for the rest of this great film.
Sex and Fury is a great Pinky Violence film. One of the best forms of exploitation.
Also starring Christina Lindberg, star of Thriller - A Cruel Picture.

The Devil's Rejects (2005,  R)
The Devil's Rejects
alright i think iam in the minority on this one. One of the sleaziest films to come out of the staes in 20 years. I loved it. Saw it 4 times in the theatre.
A huge improvment over House of 1000. Zombies sequel is destined to become a classic.
214
House of 1000 Corpses (2003,  R)
House of 1000 Corpses
Zombie pays homage to 70 's horror. Sure there is nothing original in this film. Sure the dialogue is really forced. But i didnt care. I loved it.

Hot Fuzz (2007,  R)
Hot Fuzz
A total homage to over the top action flicks of the states and with a couple nods to great classics like Straw Dogs. Hot Fuzz is way funny and full of wit. Edgar Wright reteams the brilliant pairing of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost for this laugh fest. The story is great and the resalution to the mystery is halarious.
One thing about this film that detracts from its brilliance is the flashy epileptic style of the camera work and the uber fast editing. Its even used in scenes were there is no action taking place. Iam not a fan of this style at all. I dont know if this was part of his homage to action...seeing i dont remember its obnoxious use in Shaun Of The Dead. But by the time the climax was upon me i was getting a headache. But i have a felling the Wright was just parodying this technique. But man it got annoying!!! I think it will hold up much better on a small home screen than being engulfed in it at the theatre.
Hot Fuzz is brilliant and i look forward to more from the brilliant team of Wright, Pegg and Frost!!

L'assassino è costretto ad uccidere ancora (The Killer Must Kill Again) (1975,  Unrated)
L'assassino è costretto ad uccidere ancora (The Killer Must Kill Again)
One of my favorite giallo's. The Killer must Kill Again is a great sleazy little film. Not really a murder mystery as with other films in the genre. A great story dealing with the murder of a adulterers wife. Her body being put in the trunk of a car. And the cars being stolen by a young couple who head of to the beach. Only to have the killer track them down and dispose of any "witnesses" A must see for any fan of Itlaian sleaze. Fast paced and very sleazy. One of the better films in the genre.
219
Spider-Man 3 (2007,  PG-13)
Spider-Man 3
First off seeing the Sandman on the big screen is amazing!! I almost pulled my junk out to give it a couple strokes when he first appeared in Sandman form! His first steps as the Sandman are without a doubt one of the finest moments in cinematic history!
The first hour or so of Spider man 3 are some of the best moments in the whole trilogy. His first fight with the Sandman, the whole fight between him and Harry. It was all perfect.
But really for me the only real losing moment came when Parker went to M.J.'s work and played piano. That was truelly uninspired. I could take the M.J. song numbers and the whole funky strut sequence...but c'mon Raimi what the hell was that!!!
That aside, Spider-Man 3 is every bit as good as i thought it would be. One thing to note is that Raimi has been very outspoken on the fact that Venom was a character he wasnt really interested in doing. And it kinda shows cause he's really reduced to a minor character. Hey it didnt bother me, as far as iam concerned. I love the old school spidey villians like Doc Ock, The Lizard, Electro etc.. Venom just never seemed to get the love Raimi gave to the Sandman.
One more thing....I know Raimi is a big fan of my reveiws, so ill say it here first....Raimi, babe, spidey 4!?..forget all that Carnage crap...Ben Kingsley as The Vulture......c'mon huh?

The second time around Spidey 3 wasnt as fullfilling as the first. I noticed a hell of alot more flaws. The ending is pretty bogged down with too many charaters. I still like spidey 3 a hell of alot but its not 4 1/2 star film, like i had previously given it. I blame the studio heads for this entertaining mess.

28 Weeks Later... (2007,  R)
28 Weeks Later...
One of the reason sequels suck, is because the tend to tread the exact same ground as the original. 28 Weeks Later manages to avoid that formula. In 28 Weeks we follow a group of people through the streets of London. With the infected and the american military after them. Sure there are very minor similarities, but this film stands on its own. Its a really good solid entry in this series.
In the first film, we never see the chaos of the inital outbreak. We are introduced to the world that has already been through the chaos. 28 Weeks later also manages to avoid what it was like during the inital outbreak 28 weeks opens during that inital outbreak with a group of survivors trapped in a farm house: ala Night Of The Living Dead. but gives us a clue what it was like ; when the Rage Virus reamerges in a small populated part of London. And man does it spread fast! Scenes of people trapped in a parking garage with 1 infected, leads to almost all of them infected within minutes. Its a great scene. Also the low flying helicopter scene will go down as a classic scene.
I love these types of films: A band of survivors in an Apocalyptic setting being chased by mass crowds of cannibalistic plague carriers. Obviously zombie films come to mind. But with the 28 series ive always found a bit of "possible reality" to them with pandemics like Marburg and Ebola.
28 Weeks LAter is a solid film that delivers. But my one gripe isnt about story or acting. Its about that goddamn use of that epileptic camera style. I understand why its used....."to give the veiwer a sense of real chaos by making tham feel like they are there" But fuck! When your film is made up of action for 2/3's of it, it gets nausiating!....it can still be used, just in subtle ways, like a first person perspective shot. But when you see all the caracters in the frame and the infected chasing and attacking them....hold it steady for christ sakes. Its like these filmmakers sit around and say..." Everybody loves a good epileptic fit!... lets do that!!"
Other than that....I loved this film. Its got some great scary moments and of course its got Robert Carlyle. And iam looking forward to 28 Months Later. So far so good....

Who doesnt like this film!

Sorcerer (1977,  PG)
Sorcerer
This is one of Friedkins finer moments. This reworking of Wages Of Fear was pretty much dumped on during its release. I dont really understand why though. Its not perfect but its far from a disater or even just O.K.. This film is great. The suspension bridge scene is edge of your seat intense!
Roy Scheider is always incredible to watch. He's always been one of my favorites and this is one of his best roles. Next to Jaws this is probably Scheiders most impressive role.
And of course the Tangerine Dream score is one of the key elements to the coolness of this film.
Scorcerer does have its moments of disappointment though. I dont like how a couple characters are sacrificed with out any dramatic impact and the final 20 seconds of the film had me saying "what!" But really those are two minor gripes compared to how perfect everything is that comes before them.
Highly recomended.

Deranged (1974,  R)
Deranged
A classic drive-in horror film. Based on Ed Gein. And possibly the closest adaption of him. Co-directed by Alan Ormsby of Bob Clark fame. And one of the first, if not the first, Tom Savini makeup jobs.
One of my favorite movies. Its so much fun.

Ganja & Hess (Black Vampire) (1973,  R)
Ganja & Hess (Black Vampire)
A very strange and unusual art house type exploitation film. This is a film that needed to sink in to appreciate. I couldnt make up my mind after veiwing it. I have to be honest and say that while i was watching it i was a bit disappointed. I didnt realize this was more art house than exploitation. But as i thought about it after veiwing it, i really like it. I think a second veiwing is much needed. But it will be a bit before i do that. Its very much on the slow side. But the actors are superb. Especialy Bill Gunn- the director- who plays the mentally unbalanced assistant. The score is odd too. Containing blues, sound effects and African chants. This film is not about story. Thats pretty much irrelivant, it seems to me. But this film seems to center more on mood and emotions. Its a very strange film. But one that sticks with you.
Ive heard and read alot about this film over the years. But what i didnt know is the film that i was hearing and reading about isnt the true version. I really would still like to see the version that was bastardized by the release company for drive-in and grindhouse theatres.
Ganja and Hess is ultimatly a film that is up for all kinds of interpretation.

Hercules in the Haunted World (1961,  Unrated)
Hercules in the Haunted World
Iam not too big on the whole Sword and Sandle films. But Bava and Lees name brought me to this film. Its one of the most magically stunning films, visually. The story was fun enough also to keep my attention. The acting is hammy but who the hell cares with the visual orgasm this film gives. Bava fans take note....its one of his best in the visuals dept.

Blowup (Blow-Up) (Blow Up)
Considering that this film was released in '66, Blow-up was way ahead of its time from a visual standpoint. Amazing camerawork! And David Hemmings is fantastic as the cold photographer who thinks he has potographed a murder in progress. Blow-up is a great film that leaves you guessing about what just happened.

Hated: G.G. Allin and the Murder Junkies
Incredibly well made documentary on the the self proclaimed god of rock and roll G.G.Allin. Often times as funny as it is shocking. This is perhaps one of the best documentary ive ever seen. I have seen this over 20 times and it still to this day never bores me. Sick stuff from public animal #1.
Hated was directed by Todd Phillips who went on to make Road Trip and Old School.

The Kiss of the Vampire (Kiss of Evil) (1963,  Unrated)
The Kiss of the Vampire (Kiss of Evil)
Heres a great Hammer vampire film. A couple has car trouble and get stuck in a town. Invited to a castle, they go, only to find they are the guests of Vampires. This has a great scene involving a cult gathering of Vampires. This scene iam sure inspired the great masquerade scenes in Fearlees Vampire Killers and Eyes Wide Shut.
Hammer horror is the best.
238
The Evil of Frankenstein (1964,  Unrated)
The Evil of Frankenstein
Hammers third film in their best series of films. The Evil of Frankenstrin finds the doctor discovering his original creation frozen.
This is an odd entry in the series because the creature is not his original creation as we know it to be. That would be the Chris Lee monster. This time around Hammer got the rights to the Karloff makeup from Universal. But the tweaked it enough that it looks nothing like the Universal make-up. This entry is also the only time Cushings Baron Frankenstein is a heroic figure. Instead of desending farther into madness like all of the other entrys....well he's not totaly mad in Frankenstein created Woman....but you get the jist.
Well done and another great entry in the best Frankenstein series around.
239
Frankenstein Created Woman (1967,  Unrated)
Frankenstein Created Woman
The fourth entry in Hammers Frankenstein series is quite different than the others entries. First off the "creature" is a young beautiful woman who possesses the soul of her deceased lover thanks to the genius mind of Baron Frankenstein. And the Baron himself isnt quite the bastard he is in the other films..espeacially the ones that follow this.
Good entry in the greatest Frankenstein series ever made.

Bug (2006,  R)
Bug
Bug is a disturbing psychological thriller. Directed by William Friedkin, whos made two of the best examples of genre films...The Exorcist and The French Connection. Possession (The Night the Screaming Stops) (1981,  R)
Possession (The Night the Screaming Stops)
A very odd film, but very cool. Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani give very intense performances. They push their emotions to the brink of utter madness....and ours. Brilliant on their part. The "cuccumber" creature is cool. And Isabelle's miscarriage is about as moist as it gets! Very disturbing. I bet her lungs ached for years after filming that scene.
A very emotionally draining film. But my god i love it! One of the best european art house horror pictures.

The Devil's Brigade (1968,  Unrated)
The Devil's Brigade
A war film that plays like a comedy for the fist 3/4 of the film. William Holden leads this WW2 film about a outfit of American and Canadian GI's training to take out the Germans.
THe first half is a little silly to take seriously. The Americans and Canadians are in constant rivalry. Their goofy bickering ends when the men join together in a bar brawl. Then its mission time. And the mission against the Germans is a good WW2 set peice.(the films saving grace)
Not as good as most WW2 films...but fun.

Exellent film. Quirky and off beat. But hey, its Tim Burton telling the story of Ed Wood!! Martin Landau is brilliant in his role as the drug addled Lugosi. And Depp, as always, is brilliant as the odd ball director with a fetish for womans clothing!

Tras el cristal (In a Glass Cage) (1989,  Unrated)
Tras el cristal (In a Glass Cage)
There have only been a handful of films that have turned my stomach the first time i saw them...Pier Paolo Pasolini's SALO, Men Behind the Sun, Cannibal Holocaust and what i saw of it William Friedkins Cruisin. All sick films. Well in A Glass Cage joins those ranks. And its possibly the most fucked up of them all. Its brutaly honest in its depiction of peodophiliac killers.
Klaus is a ex-nazi doctor who found sexual pleasure in killing young boys in a concentration camp. After the war he goes into exile in Spain. Continuing on with his crimes against little boys. Until he feels the guilt and shame of his acts. With an unsuccessful attempt at suicide, Klaus ends up "living" in an Iron Lung. Paralyzed and unable to breath on his own. Enter Angelo, a male nurse with a secret. He takes care of Klaus and relives Klaus's henious acts with the guidance of Klaus's secret diary. Forcing Klaus to watch.
This film is sooo fucked up. The last hour of In A Glass Cage is goddamn intense! And sick. And its not the blood or gore cause there little of it. Its the fucking content of this film! My stomach is still turning. It definatly makes me want to take a long hot shower and scrub every bit of filth off that is now residing in my brain with sandpaper. This is strong stuff folks! Fuck that Stephen King cluncker Apt Pupil...this is the real thing! Apt Pupil doesnt even come close to what this film delivers!
But beneath the sleazy exterior of this film lies a magnificent art film. Its a well crafted, beautifuly shot film. There is definatly a real pro behind this film. A true artist. Only those with a strong constitution should see this.

Cooley High (1975,  PG)
Cooley High
Heres one of my guilty pleasures. I love Cooley High. Maybe its because it was the inspitatiopn for one of my favorite t.v. shows growing up...Whats Happening. But really its a well made film and its take on urban youth growing up in the 60s seems pretty damn acurate? But then how the fuck would i know...i was swimming around in my dads balls at that time!
Good performances all around and its great to see Freddie "Boom Boom" Washington as the doomed Cochise. Great little film. And funny too.
264
The Longest Yard (1974,  R)
The Longest Yard
seriously...whats not to like about a Burt Reynolds prison film.
265
Hardcore (1979,  R)
Hardcore
Hardcore is a modern day take on John Fords The Searchers. George C Scott plays a midwestern conservative bible thumper who's teenage daughter disappears while on a church retreat. Scott hires odd ball detective Peter Boyle to find out anything on his daughters disappearence. Boyle discovers that Scotts daughter is doing porn. Scott decideds to go deep undercover in the L.A porno ring to find his missing daughter and bring her back home.
Hardcore doesnt really accomplish what it intends to be. Its a rather flawed film. The subject matter is sleazy, but the delivery is uneven. Once Scott makes contact with his daughter, the whole reason for her running away seems rather stupid in the long scheme of things. And the acting in that scene is almost embarassing. Scotts performance is suprisingly forced. At times its almost unnatural. Although he nails it when ever the scene calls for him to be angry and violent. Boyle is the real attraction here as the sleazy private detective. He sinks his teeth into his role. The score is rather annoying to the point of distracting. It is, next to Punch Drunk Love's score, the most annoying score ever.
The last 15 minutes of Hardcore are possibly the best, as Scotts character looses it and goes on a rampage after learning the men who have his daughter also make snuff films. Fearing his daughter is gonna be the next star of one.
I guess i was expecting more from Paul Schrader, the man who's responsible for penning countless masterpeices including Taxi Driver.

Piranha (1978,  R)
Piranha
A scary and amusing little film from Dante. Full of cameos from genre veterens. This will scare you out of freshwater like Jaws scared you out of the ocean! This is the best Jaws rip off! And it has held up better in the years than Jaws has.
Great scenes of Piranha nibbling on peoples fingers, toes, cheeks, nipples and asses! Brutal scenes. And no one is an exeption to the feeding frenzy. Little kids are on the dinner plate for the hungry little fish!
Classy little drive in film! Alot of fun! And scary.

True Romance (1993,  R)
True Romance
I love this film. There is not one thing about it i can say i had a problem with. Its possibly my favorite film thats attached to Tarintino. Steller cast. Great story. Bronson Pinchot is sure to shake that Balky typcsting after the coke scene. The ending is intense and perfect. Great film refrences. Classic Tarintino story!

270
Freaks (1932,  Unrated)
Freaks
incredible little film here. Its got a message that was pretty much unnoticed during its initial run. It was so unnoticed that the film was band for exploitive reasons. This film couldnt be farther than that fact. Great story. Real freaks. And one hell of a creepy ending.
271
Open Water (2004,  R)
Open Water
o.k. iam really afraid of the ocean. I mean cmon its full of monsters. So this film really struck a chord in me. It scared the shit out of me. Those two people in the film were human bobbers! Evertime a bite is taken out of one of them they go under and come back up. Human fuckin bobbers!

Red Dragon
Solid retelling of Manhunter.
274
Hannibal (2001,  R)
Hannibal
Better than Silence of the Lambs. But iam in the minority on that.
Julianne Moore improves upon the character Foster played. It almost reminded me af a giallo. almost.
275
Four Rooms (1996,  R)
Four Rooms
Alot of fun. Each room was directed by a different director. My fav. room was with the Misbehaviors.
276
Memento (2000,  R)
Memento
fun watching it all come together. Awsome direction.
277
Double Indemnity (1944,  Unrated)
Double Indemnity
Incredibly well paced Noir that has some of the best dialogue ever. Lots of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. Barbera Stanwyck is awsome as the ultimate Famme Fatale. Who uses her beauty to get what she wants. Only suckers need apply! And McMurray, whom iam used to seeing in light fare, is brilliant with his snappy dialogue! I will now only see him as Walter Neff.
Well made and definatly at the top of my list. One of the best Noir's ive ever watched!
278
Walkabout (1971,  R)
Walkabout
Nicholas Roeg makes a really beautiful film. The freindship between the Aborigine and the kids is touching. And become sad. I love this film.
279
Big Fish (2003,  PG-13)
Big Fish
exellent film from Burton.
280
Ginger Snaps (2001,  R)
Ginger Snaps
A hip werewolf film that actually works...for the most part. Katherine Isabelle is freaking hot!! Tail and all. Cool story of a girl who is attacked by a werewolf when the wolf smells her menstration.
Fun film but the little sister started to get a little annoying after a while. And the make up effects got really horrible twards the end. The werewolf looked awfull. And the make up looked awfull late into her transformation. But i can look past that stuff because the film was alot of fun.
281
U Turn (1997,  R)
U Turn

The Sugarland Express
one of Speilbergs best.
287
The Bride of Re-Animator (1990,  R)
The Bride of Re-Animator
This is actually a pretty faithful adaption of the Lovecraft story. Bride is nowere near as cool as the original, but still has enough surreal charm to make it stand out. Combs performance is maniacal. Yuzna lacks the visual eye that Staurt Gordon has but still makes a fun film.
288
Robocop 2 (1990,  R)
Robocop 2
Robocop2 is hated by alot of people, I think this is just as good as the original. I would of loved to of seen the original ultraviolent cut.

The Toxic Avenger
Possibly the greatest trash-comic book- horror film ever.
This is one of those guilty pleasures. Loads of fun! And it has that signature Troma soundtrack constantly running the whole time during the film. Great times i had with this film. Troma rules! And so does this film. Skip the sequels. It doesnt get better than the first one!
292
Angel Heart (1987,  R)
Angel Heart
Exellent and odd detective film that has that Cosby kid with unshaven armpitts. yuck! But she was good in it as was Rourke. De Niro is absolutly amazing as the egg eating Louis Cyper. Awsome film and worth wathing more than once!

297
Duel (1972,  PG)
Duel
one of Speilbergs best. Very intense. Weaver has to carry the entire film and does an incredible job at it.
298
King Kong (2005,  PG-13)

Enemy of the State
Hackman makes the film!
311
Mission Impossible (1996,  PG-13)
Mission Impossible
I hate action films with over the top action. But there something about this one i really liked. Emilio Esteves getting his head crushed...? Maybe. But When you have a master like De Palma behind the camera its gonna be good.

The Wizard of Oz (1939,  G)
The Wizard of Oz
surreal and scary.
315
Unforgiven (1992,  R)
Unforgiven
its like Eastwoods swan song to his western carrer. Hackman is brilliant as the ruthless Sheriff. And Eastwood and Freeman are a fantastic team. Watching this film you feel like this is were the character Eastwood played in the dollars trilogy ended up.
316
Ocean's Eleven (2001,  PG-13)
Ocean's Eleven
The fantastic chemistry of the cast is pretty apparent. This is a great heist film!
317
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007,  PG)
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
First, i never even made it all the way through the first film. I fell asleep during it and never bother to rewatch it. What i did see was awfull. So i had really low expectations going into this one.
If you can turn your brain off for about 1 1/2 hr's you will find the Rise Of The Silver Surfer is a fun film. Of course the human drama is badly done. The dialogue is childish. The acting is horrible. And the guy playing Victor Von Doom is about as threatening as Jim Varney! But for some odd reason i really enjoyed this film!? It captured the cheesey fun of the comics for me. Although iam sure there are comic geeks who would disagree. But fuckem. I liked it. I think i might give the first one a second chance now.
318
Ocean's Thirteen (2007,  PG-13)
Ocean's Thirteen
Never having watched Oceans 12 i was worried i might not know what would be brought over from that film. Luckily, according to my girlfriend there wasnt much.
Oceans 13 is a total blast. I enjoyed it as much as i enjoyed Oceans 12. Pacino's character was fun to watch go down. He was a sleazy bastard.
The disguises were fun.....at one point Clooney had on what looked like a Freddy Mercury moustache. He looked like he would be a great candidate for Kraven The Hunter in Spidey 4!?!
Oceans 13 also boasts a great score. Iam gonna pick it up asap! Its possibly the best score for a new film ive heard in ages.
319
The Italian Job (1969,  G)

Long Weekend
A very odd and eerie contribution to the nature-revenge filcks. This bizzare film is actually one of the better films in that genre. What ever the hell is on the beach gave me the creeps.

Gary Oldman is, as always, awsome. But Chloe Webb as Nancy is really iritating. The Sex Pistols werent that great and dont really deserve the attention they get. But this film is the best thing to of ever come from them.

375
Rocky Balboa (2006,  PG)
Rocky Balboa
When it comes to Rocky sequels, maybe excluding the second one, one can expect popcorn trash. Part 2, the only thing i remember is Mickey screaming, "You gotta catch that chicken you greasy Dago!" Iam not a big fan of 4 and 5 but 3 is funny. Rocky films lost something after the first two films. Maybe character? They all seemed to rely on Stallones ego. Maybe thats why this film works better for me. Maybe it took Stallones carrer to take a nose dive and for him to become a direct to video star for him to write a story that he could really relate to? This film basically echoes whats going on in Stallones life.
I liked Rocky Balboa. Sure its nothing we havnt seen already in any of the previous Rocky films. Espeacially the first one, which this film borrows from alot. But its was a nice change of pace. Rocky really had something to prove in this film. And so did Stallone. One major change from the sequels is in the character of Rocky himself. He's actually got character. I watched part 4 right before watching this and there is no dialogue in the film. Its one big music video! Rocky Balboa is really a character driven film. But one things for sure Stallone is still a ham in those boxing scenes! Oy Vay! The first two rounds of the fight were awfully staged! I got a little worried for a minute there. But all in all the fight was fun to watch. I was really hoping Rocky would pull it off.
Rocky Balboa is a fun film if nothing else and Stallones suprisingly good direction was....suprisingly good. I cant beleive i like Rocky 6! But i do, its a real guilty pleasure.
376
