| The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus - PG-13 |
Wow, this film was very odd, different and original. And I loved it. The whole concept was so interesting, the way it was portrayed onscreen was beautiful. I thought it was marvelous. I didn't think it was hard to follow, which was one of my worries going into this film. It glided right through. Although the special effects might nove have been as spectacular as other films, it was a visual treat for sure. The cinematography and the costumes were so beautiful. Especially the costumes, whether it's their everyday poor clothes to their show costumes, they were breathtaking. You would never guess that this movie takes place in modern times though just by looking at the trailer.
Heath Ledger was so good in this. I really liked the scene between Anton (Andrew Garfield) and Tony (Heath) in which Tony is demanding to get his pipe back, and Anton is playing a little joke on him, by using magic to not give it to him. It was really funny because Tony was all like "Ha Ha...give it back", and Anton was clearly amused how ticked off Tony was getting. However I didn't like the first scene where we are introduced to Tony because here is hanging from a rope, believed dead. The only through running through my mind was "Did we have to see dead Heath?". It was so heartbreaking to see that. But otherwise, Heath did very well in this film. And I wish he was still around of course to bring us more great films. Johnny Depp was good too. He didn't have a very big part, but he was charming as hell. And he did deliver one of the most memorable lines ( in my opinion) which was "Nothing is permanent, not even death". Which I think is so ironic considering that Heath died while the film was still being made. But it's also a very beautiful message thatr works well in the movie. Jude Law was the most surprising for me. In a good way mind you. I think he was the best incarnation of Tony. It's surprising because I am such a big fan of Johnny, but I think Jude really got Tony's mannerisms down. Colin did a good job, but it was hard to like him, perhaps its because at that point of the film, we realize how much of a douchebag Tony is. All the other Tony's were nice and charming, Colin's Tony wasn't very likeable. Oh well. I really ended up liking Andrew Garfield, who plays Anton. I loved his character, I liked his acting. He was also cute, and there is something endearing about him. I think I will have to look into some more of his work. Christopher Plummer was very good in this too. I really liked Lily Cole. But Verne Troyer really stole the show. He was so funny in this. Hysterical. Terry Gilliam (the director) deserves two thumbs up from me. I really liked the style and how he brought this world to life. You could almost walk into the world yourself and get lost in it. There was some moments in the film (especially the dancing/singing policeman) that really reminded me of Monty Python. But hey it's Terry Gilliam. So I would recommend this film. I think for any of you who are looking for something different, something original and who doesn't mind a little weirdness on the way, this film is for you. My last words of thought...simply gorgeous. |

It's an original movie with an interesting concept and plot. And all the ragdoll characters were so darn cute. I think this movie is appropriate for all ages, however I don't think young kids will get this movie. But I think it's sweet to see these ragdolls have more heart and feelings than humans do some days. It's a nice touch. Also the animation was very nicely done.
The only real negative thing I have to say, is that at times, it's bit a slow. It felt like it took awhile to get the point of the movie. But other than that. i thought it was good. And on a personal note, I love Elijah's voice. So for me, that was another pleasing aspect. |

| Jennifer's Body - R |
It was....a tad corny, to say the least. The writing, the acting, the special effects. I can't say it was truly horrible though, because the corny bits were kind of fun. I feel like it could have been better. Megan Fox is a bad actress. Enough said. Her *Spolier* murder/sacrifice scene was the only time, I could see a hint of an actress there. Her only redeeming part. Adam Brody was good in the beginning, and then in that same scene (murder/sacrifice of Jennifer) it got very laughable. The corny lines had no doubt a part in that, but his acting was...crap there too. J.K. Simmons had a really ugly wig, that was distracting, and again he some corny lines, that made me roll eyes. Johnny Simmons and Kyle Gallner were pretty good. The best though was Amanda Seyfried, she really made the movie likeable. Plus on a personal level she is likeable herself. And she played her part well, from the dorky girl, to scared girl to tough girl. She transtioned the part well.
The writing was disappointing though. And I realize that it must be hard to write a film after the mega success of Juno, but I was expecting more. There was some lines and moments where it was honestly funny, but whenever they used "comedy" during the more dramatic/horror scenes, it was horrible to watch. For example, Jennifer gets a pole through her, and she says "Got a tampon?' in response. Or when the footballer is murdered and the teacher mistaking his cries of help for grieving, and he just stands there and says" Let it all out". But the worst line was when Needy (Amanda Seyfried) finally kills Jennifer by stabbing her through the heart and Jennifer goes "My tit". And Needy replies "No your heart". I mean seriously, if you were being stabbed, would you say my tit. Really. So bascially it wasn't completely horrible. It got a 3 from me because there was some funny moments and lines here and there. And Amanda Seyfried totally kicks ass. Literally. The scene in the beginning where she kicks the orderly was so bad-ass awesome. So for any of you, who want to see this, I warn you, don't expect too much. It's kind of a fun movie...but not a masterpiece, in fact it's no where near that. |

I really liked the idea of a love story mixed with horror. It's an intriguing story. Very interesting. I thought it was very original, which it refreshing to see. I think the two main characters Eli and Oskar had great chemistry with one another. And they both did a great job with the acting. And I liked their characters. I liked how even though Eli needs to kill people to live or how Oskar wishes he could get revenge on his bullies (and does end up hitting the boy with a stick) there is something still really sweet and innocent about them. You can't help but root for them. And I think it's because of the way they protect each other, and care for each other. It's really sweet. But like I mentioned earlier, it's also a horror movie, with lots of blood and gore. And I think they did that aspect pretty well. The only special effects/make-up effects that I thought needed improvement was the man's burned face and when the cats attacked Virginia. You could totally tell the cats were CGI, and the burned face looked really fake, not too mention that his face would have been bandaged. The ending left me needing to know more. Is he running away to be with her, is he going to become a vampire, is he just helping her escape....I felt that there was questions left unanswered. I guess I just have to use my imagination. So otherwise, it was a good film. |

| Days of Thunder - R |
It was better than I was expecting it to be. It had some good funny moments. For instance the scene where Cole ( Tom Cruise) thinks his doctor Claire (Nicole Kidman) is really a stripper that the guys have set up for him was funny, and the scene where Cole and Rowdy (Michael Rooker) are racing each other in wheelchairs got a laugh out of me as well. I didn't feel like there was a whole lot of action. I mean there was the big crash scene, but otherwise it fell short for me on that. The love aspect might be have been a bit cliched, but you could really see the chemistry between Tom and Nicole. And no wonder, they were dating at the time. I also liked how Cole and Rowdy managed to become friends. Acting wise, I think everyone did a good job. I really liked John C.Reilly in this. He wasn't a big or important part in the movie, but he looked haunted to me. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that his character had lost his dad in a racing accident, and could never forget and get over it. If that's the case, I think he's a pretty good actor. But who knows, he could have been going through something personal himself, and it showed onscreen. Either way, it's something I picked up on and stood out to me. Basically I thought it was enjoyable. It's not a movie to make you think, it's not a movie with impressive special effects, but it was good. |

| Mysterious Skin - NC-17 |
It's a very disturbing and heartbreaking film. Both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Brady Corbet give stunning performances. I felt really sad for Neil (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) but I also had a hard time liking him. Especially after that firecracker incident, but at the same time he was just a kid who went through a traumatic incident who couldn't properly express his true feelings. You know, it's like I could understand the situation but just didn't agree with it. And Joseph Gordon-Levitt played his part of the troubled teen well. You could just see him dying to change his life around, but not knowing how. Resorting to the only thing he knew since childhood. It was very well done. This was the first time, I've ever heard of Brady and I was quite impressed. Will have to look into some of his other movies. The movie had an interesting yet disturbing plot. Child molestation/rape is never an easy subject. It was interesting in the way that these two boys are connected to each other, but the one doesn't really know why. All these years he had blackouts where he couldn't a remember a thing, and then later on, he's convinced it was the work of aliens. And even though I predicted early on that *SPOILER* he was molested/rape alongside Neil as well. It didn't make that last scene any more heartbreaking or hard to watch. And to see him just curl up like that. It's an eye-opener for sure. I also thought the scene where that one guy is just beating up Neil as he has sex with him was brutal as well. And the scene after that where he comes back to his apartment and cries was also heartbreaking. The only negative thing I have to say, is that at times the film was a bit slow moving. I think you really need your full attention for this movie. And for all of you who want to see the film, this movie isn't for the faint of heart. It has lots of graphic subject matter and scenes. This is for mature audiences. For people who can really handle what's going on. I did think this was a good movie ( not my favourite Joseph Gordon-Levitt film) but good nonetheless. |

| Little Manhattan - PG |
I thought it was cute, and some genuine moments. It's a film that anyone can relate to, and it's family friendly. Josh Hutcherson is really talented for his age, in every movie that I have watched him in, he is able to convey every kind of emotion. I will continue to look out for other projects of his in the future. He really has a bright future ahead of him I think. I also thought Charlie Ray was cute as well. She did a good job and she seems really mature for her age. As for the storyline and script, I thought it showed the whole idea of your "first love" or puppy love well. The awkwardness and the way they you analyze every little detail or movement. How it doesn't last for long. However I didn't think how the parents got back together at the end seemed realistic. I'm not saying that never happens, but just talking and getting everything out in the open, doesn't always solve your problems. It made a nice ending but I didn't think it was very realistic. And on a personal note, I just don't like how the parents just let their kid go roaming around the city. I mean I think it was like 9 blocks or something that they let him go around, but this isn't some small town, it's Manhattan for starters. It's a big town to get lost in, not too mention possible predators or traffic related accidents. Even though that could happen anywhere. But also the issue with me is the fact that he is 10. I know you have to let your kids grow up sometime, but I couldn't get over that. So overall it was cute and had it's funny moments. It's not my favourite Josh Hutcherson movie, in fact I wouldn't put it up there with my top fave movies, but I thought it was enjoyable. It's a film for kids and adults alike. |

| Four Christmases - PG-13 |
Seriously don't waste your time on this movie. I didn't think it was very funny. It's Vince Vaughn's usual schtick, and this kind of movie is below of what Reese Witherspoon is capable of. There was a couple of laughs here and there, but the jokes need to be improved majorly. I also just felt that the movie was predicatable. Also I think the film is quite forgettable. There is nothing that sticks out in your mind.
You know, I have nothing more to say about this. It's not really good or very bad to make me argue my points further. It just gets a very "meh" reaction out of me. |

| The Princess and the Frog - G |
I have to say this brought all the warm fuzzy memories of my childhood back. It was so good to see a 2D movie with musical numbers again. For me, the movie started to get really interesting once Tiana became a frog. That's where the real action, adventure and hilarity happen. On the way, to find a way to change them back into humans, Tiana and Prince Naveen meet a wide assortment of characters. A music loving alligator named Louis and a friendly firefly named Ray who help them by taking them to Mama Odie, a woman witch doctor who will have the sure fire way to turn them back. And the characters were done well. I really like how Tiana was a strong, sophisticated, hard-working girl. She wasn't, let's say her best friend in the movie. A spoiled brat, who gets everything she wants, and does it all in poofy pink dresses. No no, Tiana is not like that. And thank god. She's a REAL woman. Prince Naveen was kind of annoying at first. He's so slick. He almost comes off as being arrogant, since he thinks so highly of himself. I'm glad to say, he makes a change throughout the film. He suddenly realizes it isn't all about him, and he also finds out there is more to life than being rich or being a prince. I ended up liking him The scene where he attempts to propose to Tiana was sweet and heart warming. Louis the alligator, was kind of like Bruce in Finding Nemo to me. He's this big scary guy, but who's really sweet inside. His dream to play in the band. So on the journey to seek Mama Odie, he decides he wants to be human as well. *SPOILER* He never becomes human, but does end up playing in the band. I kinda wish he was human. I kept trying what he would like. Ray the firefly, was my favourite character. So maybe he's not all there in the looks department (note missing teeth) but it's part of charm. And I love how he goes on about Evangeline, his girl. He says that she shines brighter than any other firefly. And later you discover Evangeline is really a star. But they don't bother to set him straight, because you can see how happy he is. How happy is when he talks about her. And the scene where *SPOILER* he dies was so sad. I mean first of all, I was like I can't believe Disney killed him off, that's horrible, but during the funeral scene where you see become a star next to Evangeline was truly touching. I honestly started to cry. My favourite song was Ma Belle Evangeline. First of all, the song itself was sweet because of the way Ray sings about his Evangeline, but it was also visually pleasing. With all the colours and the mood, it kinda reminded me of Kiss the girl in The Little Mermaid. It was very nice. There was also a lot of other cute/funny moments. The Princess and the frog was a very fun and entertaining movie, that is for kids and adults alike. I wouldn't quite rank it up there with Aladdin or The Lion King, but its definitely worth a see. |

| Dedication - R |
I honestly found the film a bit boring. It's a slow paced movie. I just kept expecting something exciting or different to happen. I don't think the script or directing was phenomenal. Not bad, a bit cute at times. I think Billy Crudup did a very well job. He's really convincing as a person with OCD. Although I wasn't rooting for him in the beginning, because he was just so horrible to everyone. I liked how you see a change in him at the ending. Mandy Moore was also good in this. I like how shes stepping into new and different roles, and getting away from that all american girl persona she usually plays. That's all I really have to say. There wasn't much that interested me or made me think. It had it's moments, I liked the acting, and thats why I am giving it 3 stars. |

It's a really interesting concept. I liked the plot of how Jamal knew all the answers because it happened in his life. However, I found the film quite boring. I mean I wasn't invested in these characters. Like I just didn't care what happened to them. The film didn't grab me. The only time it got interesting was towards the end, where you see the host try to give him the wrong answer and how Latika finally escapes and is able to talk to him on the phone, how he wins and the end, they are re-united. That was the only good, interesting part for me. Oh plus the song and dance at the end was good too.
I did like the direction and the cinematography. So I suppose that Danny Boyle did deserve his oscar. And I think the song "Jai Ho" deserved the oscar as well. But I personally don't think it deserved every other award it won. This wasn't a bad movie, but it wasn't good enough to get any emotion out of me, whether that was something like crying or laughing. |

| Brothers - R |
Three powerful performances by three great actors. First of all I have to talk about Tobey Maguire. He really plays the part of a loving family man turned depressed mentally ill man so convincingly. I mean you see him with his family, playing with his kids, and being intimate with his wife, helping and being so open to give his brother a second chance. And then he goes back to the war. And he's not happy nor sad about it. As he so poignantly puts it "It's work". And then when he's back in Afghanistan, his helicopter crashes and SPOILER gets held captive by terrorists. And after months of being on the brink of starvation, missing his family, watching his friend be tortured multiple times, the terrorists give him an ultimatum. Kill your friend/fellow soldier or you will die. And you can see him change from being brave and calm to fear, to frustration, and in the midst of it, he ends up beating his friend to death with a club. And it's a horrible act, that of course he never wanted to happen. But of course that act messes with his mind. And when he is returned to his family. He just shuts himself off with everybody. And he becomes convinced that his wife Grace and his brother Tommy have been sleeping together. Which they never did. At the end of the film he really blows up. He starts smashing all the cabinets, he screams and yells and pulls a gun on his brother and on himself. He ends up in a mental hospital. Where we see him slowly improving. He finally and tearfully admits to his wife that he killed his friend Jim. And we can all see that it will be hard but there is hope.
Natalie Portman also does a really good job at playing the widow. She played her part so convincingly as well. And you also see her character become much warmer and closer to Tommy. And you see how confused she's feeling over the fact that she is starting to feel something for him, but she always remains faithful to her husband. She has this great range of emotions. And its wonderful. Jake Gyllenhaal is also great. He plays this troubled guy. Essentially he was sent to jail for robbing this woman. But when he gets out of jail, you witness the strained relationship with him and his father. His wishes he was everything Sam (Tobey ) is. And throughout the film you see Tommy grow up and mature. He helps out around the kids, he takes them skating, he plays with them, he doesn't go to bars and get drunk, and he re-builds the kitchen. And of course he feels some attraction to Grace (Natalie). And the two of them only kiss - once. They both realize it was a mistake. She's still in mourning and Jake who breaks down after that is obviously feeling that he is betraying his brother. He even redeems himself by confronting the woman he robbed and apologizing for what he did. And the woman confesses that she had nightmares for years, but ultimately can forgive him. I also have to give out a shout out to the young Bailee Madison. Boy does this girl have a future in this career. She is a little powerhouse. You can really see in her acting that she can tell her father is different when he comes home. She misses Tommy. She misses that normalcy that he was bringing to the family. And she gives such a strong performance espcially during the birthday party scene, where she yells a bunch of lies to her father about Tommy and Grace's relationship. And later Grace asks her "Why did you say those things" and she responds by saying that she doesn't like her dad anymore, she wishes Tommy was always around. The script is wonderfully written. The Direction is great. It's a really strong emotional film. It moved me to tears. All the performances was great. And I think this deserves to be recongnized at all the different award shows. Bravo! |

After hearing such good reviews, I thought this would be a good, funny movie. The trailer even looked good. However I was disappointed. This is Ben Stiller's and Jack Black's usual schtick which I find tiresome. It's not funny after awhile. And ok, I get that blood and guts was supposed to be fake on purpose, but some of those scenes just got so ridiculous. The only thing I find redeeming about this movie is Robert Downey Jr and Jay Baruchel. Robert is kinda like the character he plays in which whatever role he's in he becomes that person. He always someone different. He doesn't play the same type of characters. And I like how he can take risks. And putting make-up on to make you look like an African-American is a risk. Which I think Rob pulled off nicely. I also liked Jay. I've liked him in other things as well. He's funny without needing to be so over the top like Ben Stiller and Jack Black are. Plus on a personal note, he's got the cute dorky thing I like. Now Brandon T. Jackson wasn't that bad either. I haven't heard much about him, so I don't know about his acting ability in other movies but I thought he was alright here. I thought the cameo roles were a nice touch. There was a few laughs here and there. I thought the Alpa Chino/ Lance thing was funny, or Alpa Chino saying to Kirk " Hell yeah! Ha! That's how we all talk? We all talk like dis, "suh"? Yes suh, ha! Yeah mmm-hmm get some crawfish, and some ribs, ha! Ye-aah. You're Australian! Be Australian! Excuse me, Kangaroo Jack!" Or the line where Alpa says something like "You don't say Chineses". I thought the Satan's alley trailer was funny, so I mean it wasn't all bad...but their was just a lot of unnecessary stuff. Let's just say, I don't think I'll be buying this anytime in the future. I will keep tabs on what Rob, Jay and hell even Brandon do in the future. |

| How To Be - Unrated |
It was a very odd film. Not even the good kind of odd. To me, I felt like the filmmakers were trying to be odd and quirky. It just didn't work. I liked the second half better, the first half seemed....oh how should I put it? Poorly edited. They seemed to jump from one scene to the next without properly letting us know what's going. I don't know, that's what I got from this. The last thing from this movie that I didn't like was Robert Pattinson's hair. I know this isn't anything important to the plot, directing, acting or anything to do with the movie....but it's udder atrociousness of it was distracting to say the least. He does not suit that shaggy hairdo. Here's what I liked about the film. Mainly the music.I think it suited the movie well and complemented the scenes. In fact, I wouldn't mind buying or downloading it. I also liked Robert's acting in this. As much as I do like the Twilight series, I was pleased that his acting was different here. I am looking forward to more movies of his in the future. That being said (Or rather written) I honestly don't think this movie is worth your time. I'm sure die hard Rob fans will still want to see this. And they should be happy that he does a good job in this. There just is nothing much else going for it. |
