Sex and the City: The Movie
R
I liked this movie I think they were finally able to talk and be the way the television version was not able to be. Samantha was very sexy and sexual. Her situation fit her to a tee. Carrie wigged out when Mr. Big acted the way she expected that he would. Marianda finally found how to keep her man and Charlotte finally got her family. It was an excellent movie fantasy. I would see it again.

The Other Boleyn Girl
by K JWhile I can't speak for the historical accuracy of this film, I can say it was quite enjoyable and led me to research the monarchy from the Tudor period. Whether it was due to viewing this film on Blu-ray or not, I found the color palette beautiful and pleasing. The cinematography and costuming were eye catching. I haven't read the book, but I found the film enthralling, intense, and satisfying. Eric Bana surprised me as Heny VIII and I was impressed with his portrayal. Portman and Johansson were stunning. Well worth a watch if you enjoy period films.
Hey, you should really see this!

Batman Begins
by K JBatman Begins is dark, solemn, and fantastic. Christopher Nolan shows us Batman's origins and we learn how millionaire Bruce Wayne became the Batman. For those who read the comics, it probably was no surprise. But for those who've only seen Batman movies, it was quite a ride. My understanding is the film stayed very true to the comics. For me this Batman movie is a grown-up edition. It doesn't feel like I'm watching a comic superhero come to life in a cartoonish way. Christian Bale is the perfect Batman. Gary Oldham, Michael Caine, Morgn Freeman and the remaining cast (aside from Katie Holmes) excel in their roles. There aren't many flaws to be found in Batman Begins and for me, it made Batman seem like a reality and not a character from a comic book.

In anticipation of TDK, the hubby and I decided to re-watch Batman Begins. We waited for the disc to be released on Blu-ray and we were not disappointed. For me, this is the best Batman movie I've had the pleasure of viewing.posted 13 days ago -

Untraceable
by K JCan't quite put my finger on what is missing from Untraceable, but there is something that holds this film back from being great. The storyline is very believable to me. Killings being broadcast via the internet does not take a huge leap in belief with todays technology. The FBI being involved and stymied doesn't take a long stretch in believability either. The cast is good, the story plausible, the killings are disturbing and graphic... The plot is disquietingly too realistic and I shudder to think how quickly something of this nature could happen. All in all, I liked the film, but I just would love to know what is missing that keeps it from being great.
Definitely worth viewing....

The Patriot
by K JThe Patriot is not a history lesson on the American Revolutionary War. It is a film presented by Hollywood. The Patriot is a great film. Though the story may be cliché filled, the acting, costuming and cinematography are outstanding. How can I not love a character who would prefer not to fight a grisly war, yet circumstances beyond his control give him no choice but to fight for his family and ultimately for his country?
Watched this one for the fist time on July 4th... Can't believe I waited so long. It truly is a good film!

Hancock
by K JHancock earns 3 1/2 stars, being a bit above average because Will Smith was great and hilarious in the first 40 minutes, Jason Bateman was great in the first 30 minutes, a couple of scenes are totally roll on the floor funny and the story broke off into what could have developed as awesome drama. Could have become awesome drama, but someone went cutting crazy or decided to hurry up and end the film. Overall, I enjoyed this popcorn flick, but it could have been so much more....
Worth seeing, but you don't have to rush to the theater. DVD will be fine for Hancock...

We Own the Night
by K JWe Own the Night has about three entertaining scenes. That's it. The rest is rubbish. I expected much more with Phoenix, Wahlberg and Duvall on the cast list. No discredit to the actors because they seemed to work the characters they portrayed as well as anyone could given the script was lousy. The plot wasn't bad, but the script was poorly written. Duvall's character was too wishy-washy and Wahlberg's character was much underdeveloped. The film just drags and it's a relief to finally see the film credits roll.
This is not a good film. James Gray may well become the next writer/director for which I will boycott all movies. Don't rush to see this one. Catch it on cable for free if you can...

Charlie Bartlett
by K JHighly disappointing...
Charlie Bartlett earns 2 1/2 stars simply for the talent of Robert Downey, Jr and Hope Davis. This film has one of the most poorly written scripts I've ever seen. There were moments when I thought the film was going to take off and go where comedy needs to go, but then it would just flop. Those moments always included the afore mentioned talents. Given a proper script, the film could have been stellar. It wasn't the directing, the cinematography, or the acting. Gustin Nash gets all the credit for this films failure to be funny. Not a recommendation to see, but to avoid.... Unless, like myself, you're a huge RDJ fan, you might want to avoid this one altogether.

Chaos Theory
by K JChaos Theory is very well scripted and Ryan Reynolds is perfectly cast as obsessive organizer Frank. For an almost romantic comedy, Chaos Theory is above average. It is quirky, funny at times, emotional at times and scores high marks for its delve into the dramatic side of life changing events. Definitely better than what one might expect....
Good movie and has a nice soundtrack as well....

December Boys
by K JDecember Boys should have been a touching and poignant coming of age film. Instead the script and directing are bland. The characters are much too underdeveloped. The film is boring. Kudos to cinematographer David Connell. Only his stunning shots of the Kangaroo Island kept this film from being a total waste.
Not a recommendation..... I was really looking forward to this film. It was a major let down.

He Was A Quiet Man
by K JHe Was A Quiet Man leads the viewer into the mind of a psychotic individual and has a twist of an ending. Slater is brilliant as is his norm. Macy does not have a large role and with that I was disappointed. Cuthbert was very good and convincing. Well acted, well scripted and though not a must see film, it is intriguing.
Worth the rental fee....

Quid Pro Quo
by K JA very strange movie dealing with a topic I was very unaware even existed... I can't honestly say I liked this film. It is well scripted, well acted and shot beautifully. The subject matter was unappealing to me, so therefore I rated the film for it's artistic merit alone.
Not a recommendation.... just my 2 cents....

Dear Frankie
by K JDear Frankie is truly a masterpiece of film making. The script is superbly written with just enough charm, wit and compassion to move any viewer. The plot may be a bit fanciful for some, but it is not unbelievable. The cinematography is subtle and beautiful. The acting from the entire cast is stellar. Jack McElhone was outstanding as Frankie. A film that tugs at your emotions...

Live Free or Die Hard
by K JIt may well be because I'm over forty, but I loved the analog man in a digital world theme behind Live Free or Die Hard. Bruce Willis brings John McClane back to the big screen with tons of wit and action. Justin Long (the Mac guy) was perfectly cast as McClane's sidekick for this film. If you enjoy action films, you won't go wrong with this one.

The Cell
by K JI want to like Jennifer Lopez, honest I do... Her acting leaves too much to be desired.
The Cell is visually stunning and somewhat original, but the script hovers around a superficial level and never delves deep into what could be a marvelous psychological thriller. With the underdeveloped script and some less than stellar acting, The Cell is a boring serial killer movie dressed up in pretty graphics.NOT A RECOMMENDATION!
Unless you can catch this one on cable (like I did), I wouldn't spend the rental dollars and definitely would not buy...posted 48 days ago -

Closer
by K J'I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You'... One of those movie songs which perfectly matches the film and I can't get it out of my head! WOW~ how to describe this almost genius of a film?! Raw, incredible, exotic, erotic, and masterful are words which come to the front of my mind. Complexity and simplicity rolled into one make Closer one of the most interesting films I've had the pleasure of viewing. Though not a film for all audiences (graphic language, subject matter, nudity/sexuality), Patrick Marber has written a superb script involving deception, intimacy, infidelity and sacrifice. Clive Owen, Jude Law and Natalie Portman give award winning performances, and even Julia Roberts doesn't fall flat in Closer. A truly spellbinding film....
I unabashedly recommend this film to anyone who loves film and isn't easily offended by raw sexuality - (sometimes quite crude in dialogue)

Adaptation
by K JChris Cooper (John LaRoche), who captured the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in Adaptation, easily stole this film. Nic Cage gives one of his 'best ever performances' as Charlie/Donald Kaufman. The film itself is a strange mixture of factual people set in fictional events. Quite odd and unique, plus one of the 'factual people' isn't really factual, yet he received an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. Confused yet? If Adaptation doesn't leave you scratching your head and wondering whether you just watched either the worst movie ever or the most brilliant film ever, you really didn't get this film. Still confused? Me, too.....
I still haven't decided if I liked Adaptation or not, but I'm glad I decided to give it a viewing... I would say it's a must see for Cage and Cooper fans. For all other potential viewers- watch plenty of trailers and read up on the film before you spend your time on Adaptation.
