Crash (2004,  R)
Crash
Crash is a movie that comes around about once in a decade. It's not because it has an all-star cast, which it does. It's not just because it has great acting, which it does. It's not even because it's story is powerful and compelling, which of course, it is.

Crash is the combination of these three factors that combine to make a movie that will change you forever. It will make you leap out of your seat and yell at the God damn screen "NO!".
That's the kind of movie it is. A movie with such great achievement and very little in terms of screen/editing error should be seen by everyone with two eyes and a screen.

Do yourself a favour, if you have not seen this movie. Find the time and the place to sit down and watch it. I'm not talking about after the football game rooting with your bimbo-buddies time. I mean find someone who is also not a retard or just a significant other to really sit down and enjoy something great. You will not regret it.

Enjoy!

Note: Everyone who rated the film below 3/5 stars or just decided to trash it were removed from my "buddies" list. I can handle positive/negative criticism and difference of opinion, but I can't support people who pee on picasso's.

The Departed (2006,  R)
The Departed
Absolutely, hands down. Hands nailed down to the damn ground BEST movie I have seen since God knows how long. It was gripping right from the beginning, I don't know what Leo has been doing the past 5 years with his career but he has made even me eat my own words about predicting his future from Titanic.

Matt Damon has made the best Trilogy I have seen since fucking Star Wars (The Bourne Identify) and if that wasn't enough they decided hey, let's just throw a few million dollars at Jack "here's Johnny" Nicholson and Martin "The Horror, The Horror" Sheen to take top roles alongside everyone else.

The story is powerful, Leonardo makes you sweat bullets in your seat. Damon makes you want to punch the screen, Nicholson throws you for a loop and good 'ol Sheen makes you cry your guts out.

Oh, and by the way Wahlberg's performance is the best he's EVER done, and by that I mean he has shown me that he can actually act. He got nominated for an Oscar for this thing.

All of these actors, an original story and a movie that plays out like a roller coaster from hell is what makes this movie, in my opinion, the best film of 2006. No contest!

Superbad (2007,  R)
Superbad
I have loved a few of the recent comedies and given some good praises. This movie had me thinking that it was just another one of the slumps, but I enjoyed it the most over the last 2-3 years of spread out hits. I liked it more than Knocked Up even.

Jonah Hill is really making a name for himself these days, he was great in Accepted and just as good in Knocked Up, in this he was even better. Michael Cera is amazing at awkward comedy, his style of delivery is almost masterful at a young age and it shows in Arrested Development and now he gets to prove on a big screen he doesn't lose any ability.

With the smaller roles really shining this is a great comedy. It has a strong centered story that doesn't make you yawn and has a good beat throughout the film, you don't lose contact with the whole of the film following separate characters until they meet up again. A very classic American Pie "Let's get laid before College" story, but more so because the characters don't feel like total losers.

The real feel of the film coupled with some absolutely hilarious scenes and always having more laughs in between, which is rare enough to achieve in this century. All of this with the full extra bonus of characters you can actually relate to, in a comedy none-the-less makes this the best comedy of this and many previous years, hands down.

Superbad is super-fucking hilarious, trust me!

Pulp Fiction (1994,  R)
Pulp Fiction
This was an amazing movie, Guentin Tarantino is an innovator and it has an all-star cast. Willis, Sammy L. AND Johnny T. It has great stories, good switches between them, and great directing/acting. An all around amazing movie and welcomed unique themes. A must see.

Pleasantville (1998,  PG-13)
Pleasantville
I've wanted to see this movie for a while and I'm glad I did. All of the actors brought their A game and Tobey was born for these types of roles. This is one of those movies that lightly makes big challenges on major issues in our world and in our lives. Just like how hairspray showed hatred towards people of colour, but laughing and singing the whole way, this movie starts out in one way that makes you feel it might just be a silly teen movie. However it builds to something much more dark and mature, as the varnish of the Pleasantville world begins to fade, or should I say as the colour begins to shine through, the true darkness of character dulls through.

It was a very nice story, great acting and one of the best thematically driven movies I have seen. It speaks so much wisdom all hidden underneath an already great movie. I am glad I had the chance to see it and if you do too I am sure you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Judge Dredd (1995,  R)
Judge Dredd
"I didn't break the law. I AM THE LAW!"

That's right Stallone, you're the law, and this movie is one of the last great action movies ever made. I don't care what the average rating is, the movies today for action suck shit. They all look like James Bond flicks with dumb chicks and the comedy makes you want to jab your ears with sharp pencils. People like Stallone invented action, the genre didn't exist until him, Arnold, Bruce and others were on the scene. Judge Dredd is just one of the ultimates. Fighting crime in future time in mega-city's where it is literally warfare on the streets where the cops aren't just cops, they judges and executioners... HELLO. How much more cool action can you ask for. Right when you think the world is hell, the movie even ups the ante, they play the evil twin card, the corrupt politician card AND the uber-destroying robot card. Fuck, who is rating these movies these days?

With comedy backed by Rob Schneider you know it's gold and above all that the guns and story kick ass. If you don't like "old" action movies, this isn't for you. By the way, go jump off a cliff...

Cool Runnings (1993,  PG)
Cool Runnings
I call it 'Cool Runnings', it means "Peace be da journey." That's right, John Candy and a bunch of Jamaicans... how isn't this great you ask... well that's just the thing, it is a great. A story based on real events, a hilarious coach and a team that is just as funny and unique. Human struggle and the dreams of men, it's a great movie with a good soundtrack too. I loved this movie, good times.

Enjoy!
