Basically, I don't feel that this is a worthy sucessor to the original. While the original was confusing and bizarre in a good way, this is just dull and rather uninspired. Perhaps it's because the idea is no longer so shocking and original with the sequel? I don't know.

I enjoyed this more than the first, as the plot was actually more like a Lovecraft story in it's structure and content. It also takes itself a bit less seriously, which makes for better viewing entertainment. It's still fairly average, though enjoyable enough if you're not looking for a masterpiece of horror cinema. I love the realisation of Randolph Carter though, a proper Lovecraftian hero who fights with knowledge rather than weapons and is fond of making dramatic pronouncements.

"Kiri kiri kiri...." I adore this film, the character of Asami and Eihi Shiina. True, the film does take a while to build up to the brutal climax, but I think it's worth waiting for.

The action scenes are rather manga-styled (in fact I suppose you could extend that to the entire film) and I found them visually interesting. The ending made me cry.
