Lust, drugs and violence... no place for a kid.
Overall effective, and very difficult to watch at times, The Poker House proved to be an important look at a young girl's struggles to rise above the dismal circumstances around her. Almost everything in this movie worked for me, and the character of Agnes was especially poignant. There are a few scenes that are distressing and heartbreaking because they all involve children. But, it's even more interesting to know that this film's based on the filmmakers own life. The ending was quite powerful as well. This movie tells a lot and it is inspiring. Recommended. |

Sometimes it takes your whole life to get it right.
Pride was my wilderness, and the demon that led me there was fear. Wow, this was a great movie. Ellen Burstyn played her part wonderfully. The Stone Angel transcends decades, with both its contents and messages, and it's a very poignant and important movie. The ending was effective and the viewer is left to ponder the joys and tribulations of their own life. It's all beautifully done and this is definitely one to recommend. It also brings us down-to-earth with our own mortality as human beings, as, sometimes, people tend to forget this... and, to focus on the more important things in life.

It's about first loves, last chances and everything in between.
Cute movie. I was amazed at how well Dustin Hoffman portrayed his character. Last Chance Harvey is touching and heartfelt, and there are relatable traits in the two main characters. The chemistry between Hoffman and Thompson was very nice. One thing I didn't like was that it seemed like the movie ended abruptly, and there should have been more said. Overall, it was a pretty good film. |

You brought them into this world. Now ... They will take you out.
Wow, I was happily surprised with this movie. It was nice 'n creepy, and the eerie atmosphere was what really brought everything together. It's a refreshing horror movie because for awhile it almost seems like it's a drama, but then you know something crazy's gonna happen. But, throughout the whole movie, everything felt very real and genuine, and that made it all the more frightening. The ending was cool too. It's a great little Christmas film. ;) Recommended. |

| The Secret Garden - G | I really enjoyed this version. I've loved this story since I was very young, and all the actors and actresses did a great job in this one.
