This was bad, I don't know whyI wanted so much to watch this, maybe because Alexandre Aja was part of the filmakers.
The whole story was bad, this madness thing, we,ve seen it a hundred time only in the last years and thin time the small details that have changed don't make the film go better. If everything had gone more madly and sicker, then maybe it would have changed but finaly...
At least we can see that the problem is not necessarily in the script so Alexandre Aja may keep my respect, but I think I'm gonna wait to see his upcoming Piranha 3-D.
The Reaping
R
I really didn't dislike this movie, it was actually a suprise, éi wanted to see this because it's Dark Castle, but I really didn't expect this much.
The actor are descent, seriously, and the story is interesting and well built, I enjoyed.
Asterix at the Olympic Games (Asterix aux jeux olympiques)

Look, people since this french adaptation of the famous graphic novels came out, seem like having a great time saying it "sucks" really bad and everything...
Well I will tell you, the only point with wich we can blame the film is the terrible adaptation that's been made with his peice of crap (no, I'm kitting). But what's for the rest, the film is fine. Actors are good (specially Alain Delon) and the jokes are great and very present.
My fellow french, please don't listen to all these critics and make your own idea of this movie.
Panic Room
R
That's a cool thriller, not as strong as we know it's director is capable of but it has a sort of little 'thing' in these suspence movies that keeps you on the edge of your seat if you really follow the story.
One thing, though, talking about this. Often writers do not help you in that way, when for exemple, panic is in the air, then the main character thinks of opening the wall at the right place to break the right wire so that the bad guys (wich she tought, would think about the same thing at the same moment) and she finaly realise the impossible and save her life once again. See? these parts are the one who would potentialy make you not feel what you are supposed to feel to really get the soul of the story.
Apart from that, Jodie Foster is fine and I loved Jared Leto in that performance. (and I forgot M. Withaker). Good direction by David Fincher all though.

Wow! Wow! I can bearly speak, I can't find my words to qualify this film. This amazing film, I jus watched has been under my eyes all this time and, I, Great Johnny Depp fan, had never seen that before. This movie is so Great, you don't have any idea how Awesome tis is. Two guys trying to get the mood of the Seventies makes the perfect plot for Two Hours of pure insanity. One of the funniest movies I've ever watched. Johnny Depp is amazing as always and so is Benicio Del Toro. All the ittle rolles all over the film, actually, are quite Awesome. I didn't know Terry Gilliam, and even if I profoundly hated his Brothers Grimm, I still think he's a really Good director. I really enjoyed, one of my favorite movies of all time.

by SpencerOH MY GOD!!!! HOW DID I PUT OFF SEEING THIS FOR SO LONG!!??!?!!?
Simply put, if you like horror this is a must see! I have got to hand it to the Spanish, they know how to make horror films, and never since the Sixth Sense have I been so shocked by an ending!!! Plus, the tension created in this movie is just freaking insane!!!! Nicole Kidman is perfect, and the whole gimmick of the kids being afraid of sunlight so the whole house is dark is genius!!!!! I will watch this movie again and again, god its amazing!!!!Hey, you should really see this! One of the best horror films of this new millennium!

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead
by Ross"It's very impressive that a director can start making movies in the late 1950s - with the classic 12 Angry Man, as his very first I might add, - and 50 years on can make something as high in quality as Before The Devil Knows You?re Dead. It's a true testament for sticking to something you're good at for as long as you can and Lumet's dedication and experience serves him extremely well."
Full Review HereI definitely recommend you see this movie but I am just using this feature to say something else to you...

The Crow
by DuncanBrandon Lee was excellent (God rest his soul), and the cinematography was absolutely beautiful. The rest of the cast, on the other hand, were terrible, and the plot strayed too far from that of the comic for my liking. I wish I could like this movie as much as it's rabid fanbase does, but I'd rather just read J. O'Barr's brilliant graphic novel instead.
File this right next to There Will Be Blood in the folder labeled "Overrated". Then try to acquire a copy of the fantastic (and currently out-of-print) graphic novel that inspired it.

Mamma Mia!
by SarahDirector:Phyllida Lloyd
Released: 2008
Stars: Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan,Colin Firth and Julie Walters
Genre: Musical/Comedy
Country: UK/USA

20 year old Sophie (Seyfried) is preparing to marry her boyfriend Sky (Cooper) at her mother's hotel on an island in Greece. She seemingly has it all; a carefree life, loving boyfriend and happy friends but one thing has been missing all her life; a father.
I have to admit that when we deciided to see Mama Mia!, my family and I, I wasn't sure what I would make of it at all. I know Abba songs like the back of my hand, never saw the musical but was sure I might dance a long at some stage. For sure I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Mama Mia has a certain charm to it that you can't ignore and I'm sure it will be one of the biggest hits of the summer.
The appeal of Mama Mia! is set in the songs and the brilliant cast. All the songs tell sophie's story well and you begin to like the characters a lot, but most likely Meryl Streep's character Donna. Donna is unaware of her daughter's actual father, any of the 3 leading men we see in the film; Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan and Stellan Skarsgård. All three do sing in the film and at times it can be quite funny. I'm sure not everyone wants to see the last James Bond actor sing his heart out to SOS or Stellen Skarsgard sing Take a Chance on Me, but really folks forget all that and just enjoy a fabulous film. I know Brosnan took a year of singing lessons and doesn't sound bad at all. Not so sure about the paring of Streep and Brosnan but that was only a minor flaw.
The set for Mama Mia, that being in the Greek Islands looks lovly on screen and some great shots of the actual island on helicopter which really gives you that "summer feeling" and actually made me forgets seriously analysing this film, if you see what I mean. Naturally the cheography is brilliant, most notably with Dancing Queen which, If I had the chance, I would have danced near my seat. Meryl streep can certianlydance around, as can Julie Walters both in their late 50's.
Now for the acting. To be honest I think the acting fitted well to the story. I felt most of the actors played a more laid back approach, as indeed this is not a serious film and shouldn't be taken as to be. JUlie Walters was brilliant to watch and lights up every scene she's in, including her hilarious rendition of "Take a Chance on Me." Colin Firth doesn't really do an awful lot but does sing, which wasn't that bad. Stellen Skarsgard, as most of the cast aren't that bad either.
The script is a plain and simple story but very funny and very well done indeed. I;, sure a lot of it was sidreted at die hard Abba fans but I certainly enjoyed it a lot. What's great is that the film is very funny and can divert your attention away from any pretenious bits that might annoy you, as not everything is going to break into song.
I can't recomend this enough. If there's one film that you should see it's Mama Mia! Can't tell you how much fun I had watching this.
Highly recomended
8/10Worth the watch as it's very funny to watch...

Magnolia
by SpencerThis is one of the best movies I think of all time. Seeing it once just isn't enough because there is so much in the film you can't absorb it all in just one sitting. I don't want to elaborate too much because I am going to watch it again and do a full review but all I can say at the moment is this is a must see and you should not miss out on what I think is one of the top 5 films of the 90's
Hey, you should really see this! It is truly one hell of a movie

American Teen
by Spencera really interesting documentary that I was fortunate enough to see in a private screening with my film school in New York.
It follows the life of a couple of teenagers through their senior year. My big problem with this movie is some of the scenarios just seemed to hokey and set up but then the flip side is the movie wouldn't have been as entertaining so it isn't that big a deterrent.Hey, you should really see this! Definitely worth the praise it got at Sundance

The Dark Knight
by DuncanSurpassed all of my expectations, and expectations were high. This is the only film I've seen worthy of both it's hype and it's praise.
It exceeds Batman Begins, and every other film based on a comic book, by leaps and bounds. This film knocks it out of the park in almost every aspect, from the jaw-dropping cinematography to Hans Zimmer's beautiful score to the richly written and developed characters.
And what a cast there is to fully realize these characters on screen! The best actors from Begins return for another round, and all were brilliant for the most part. Christian Bale's "Bat-voice" gets grating after a while, but that's a minor quibble.
The best performances in this film, however, were by the three newbies to the franchise. Maggie Gyllenhaal's performance as Rachel Dawes, the love interest of our protagonist, made us care for her even if she was more of a cardboard cutout than the male characters the film focuses more on. Aaron Eckhart was fantastic as Harvey Dent. He switched between charismatic and charming to tortured and menacing flawlessly. Sadly, but understandably, it's a brilliant performance that's overshadowed by another one in the same movie.
Heath Ledger immerses himself in the role of the Joker to the point where he's completely unrecognizable. His handsome face is hidden by hastily and violently applied clown makeup, and his deep voice and Aussie accent are transformed into a nasally, sleazy drawl. The Joker is a madman with nothing to lose or gain, and a terrifying one at that. It's a tour-de-force performance, and thankfully, for now, not the last performance from the late Ledger that we'll have the pleasure to see.
A comic book film that takes the source material seriously is a rare and beautiful thing. Even the best of them tend to either try and keep it fun and campy as well as insightful (the first two X-Men films, for instance) or greatly deviate from the source material's tone and/or plot (A History of Violence comes to mind).
Thankfully, The Dark Knight was handled very seriously by director Christopher Nolan, much more so than Burton and Schumacher, and it winds up being a powerful tale of what makes a hero a hero.
I'm going to see it in the cinema a second time, and the last time I did that was for the first Spider-Man film. This is the best movie of the summer, and it's going to be hard for another film like this to top it.This isn't a recommendation. This is a request.
I'm asking everyone on flixster to resist the urge to send me a recommendation for this when it comes out. I don't care how good it winds up being, or if (by some miraculous happenstance) it didn't live up to expectations and you wanted to warn me.
I'm as equally anticipating this movie as much as the great majority of you. I don't need any extra motivation to see it, nor will the most convincing argument against it prevent me from checking it out.
I assure you, my ass (or "arse", take your pick) WILL be in a cinema seat, but NOT on opening day. There are two simple reasons for that: I'm involved in a play that's requiring most of my time for the next three weeks, and I won't be able to afford a movie ticket until next week.
So please, don't flood the "My Talk" section of my profile with Dark Knight recommendations. I want to see it, and I'm going to see it.posted 9 days ago -
