Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991,  R)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Everyone has an action film that blew their minds when they were a kid and consequently became an action movie junkie he/she is today. T2 is that movie for me. Saw it for the first time when I was 4. Let's just say that at that time, a movie about two indestructible robots figthing for the future was considered the greatest movie of all time lol.

I saw the movie again recently on TV and it is still a great action movie. It may not be as technologically advanced as recent movies but I guess the lack of highly excessive CGI is a good thing. Let's take the helicopter highway chase scene in the movie as an example. I bet if it was done today, the helicopter would be CGI.

The Shawshank Redemption (1994,  R)
The Shawshank Redemption
I never get bored of this movie. If you're feeling really down then I recommend you watch this movie. The main theme of the movie is about the triumph & perserverance of the human spirit through the power of hope. Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins gave the performance of their lifetime for this movie. And the ending gets me everytime.
4
Janghwa, Hongryeon (A Tale of Two Sisters) (2003,  R)
5
The Rock (1996,  R)
The Rock
One of the best action movie ever. Seen it dozen of times and never get bored of it. NEVER....well so far.

- Good cast: Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery having a good chemistry, Ed Harris brings some depth as a villain and even Michael Biehn was cool for a short while.

- Exciting action scenes: the hummer vs Ferrari chase, mine cart gun fight, shootout at the end.

- Heart pumping soundtrack: Easily THE acton movie theme for me. Dundun Dundun Dun DUN! Dundun Dundun dun DUN!!

Lost In Translation (2003,  R)
Lost In Translation
This movie gets better each time you see it. I can't really quite point out why the movie touched me.

Maybe because I like Bill Murray or maybe it's the movie that made me fall in love with Scarlett Johansson.

Maybe because it reminds me of my time in Japan 10 years ago (eg. frustrating coz of the lack of English labels in the subways, those over the top Japanese TV shows, Pachinkos, the whole atmosphere of Tokyo at night, etc).

Maybe because it's not a typical romantic film where the guy and girl meet, fall in love, make out, have sex and live happily ever after or something like that. It's more of a platonic relationship (I think that's the right word).

But what I do know is that I love this movie.
7
Jurassic Park (1993,  PG-13)
8
Kung Fu Panda (2008,  PG)
Kung Fu Panda
Enjoyed the movie and really cool animation too especially the fight scenes.

Kids will really love this movie and I think this movie will introduce the Kung Fu genre to them (much better than Forbidden Kingdom). One kid started imitating kung fu animal moves right after the movie.
9
WALL-E (2008,  G)
WALL-E
I love Wall E. I love the robot romance. I love the environmental message. I love the homage to 2001 Space Odyssey. I love the visual. I love this movie!!
10
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006,  PG-13)
11
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
My favourite Star Wars movie . I believe this is the most iconic episode because this is the one that the average SW fans (like me) or non-SW fan masses will likely to think about first when they hear Star wars. Reason?

1. This is where Darth Vader kicked (choked) so much ass and revealed that he's Luke's father

2. This is where you first meet Yoda

3. This is where Han Solo and his chemistry with Leia really shine.

4. That Darth Vader theme song.
12
Saving Private Ryan (1998,  R)
13
Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985,  R)
Rambo: First Blood Part II
When you ask ordinary people about Rambo, they will create a mental picture of a shirtless man with a bandanna shooting down bad guys in the jungle instead of a troubled vietnam vet fighting cops.

This is the movie (not the first one) that cemented Rambo into pop culture status. It's also the first movie that introduced me to Rambo thus despite being the worse movie of 1985 or being labelled as a Reagan movie, this movie has a special place in my heart. The sight of a man who can do almost anything, from piloting a heli to blowing up people with arrows, blew me away when I was a kid. The way he selflessly refuse to take the medal of honor at the end made me proud of Rambo.

Pulp Fiction (1994,  R)

Lat sau san taam (Hard-Boiled)
No John Woo, Chow Yun Fat & Hardboiled = No Matrix!!

Pure action!!
21
The Fountain (2006,  PG-13)
22
Finding Nemo (2003,  G)
23
Die Hard (1988,  R)
Die Hard
The action movie that defined the genre in the 90s (it was released in 1988 but the Die Hard rip offs came during the 90s). You have the flawed hero, the evil genius bad guy, the incompetent cops/FBIs, one liners and a single setting.
24
The Dark Knight (2008,  PG-13)
25
Children of Men (2006,  R)
Children of Men
Underrated movie. Amazing cinematography especially the long single take at the end where Clive Owens walks through the battlefield to find the mother and the baby.
26
The Bourne Ultimatum (2007,  PG-13)
The Bourne Ultimatum
***After watching all three Bourne movies for the very first time in one go***

What a finale!!! Good plot (answers alot of questions and a cool ending) with amazing action. The action sequence in Tangier is one of the best action sequence in recent years. Then there's the car chase scene in New York with a spectacular car crash which I can't believe Jason Bourne survived. Now I know what's with all the hype about the action in this movie and how Jason Bourne is up there with other beloved badass action heroes like James Bond, Rambo, McClane, etc.
27
The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957,  PG)
The Bridge on the River Kwai
I'm not the type of guy who watch those old long movie. But I didn't have anything to do that day so I decided to watch this movie when it aired on TV. Wow! Easily one of my favourite movie and the ending sums it up: Madness! Madness!

All the characters are mad/crazy. The American Commander is crazy because he's a liar (he's not even a commander). The British colonel (played by Obi Wan Kenobi himself) is a maniac because he agreed to help the Japanese built the bridge to show them the pride of the British. The Japanese Colonel is mad because he never had control of his prisoners. All of this lead up to the amazing finale. Madness! Madness!
28
Aliens (1986,  R)
29
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968,  G)
