I recommend you see...Hey, you should really see this!
Amistad
by MagaliEven that stupid McConaughey guy is good here.
I think this film is really worth watching. It's moving, it's sad, it's happy and it's even funny at some parts. The performances are all pretty good. And the story that is told is one that we should not ignore. The worst part is that it must have been even worse.posted 446 days ago -

The First Wives Club
by MagaliI think that when a movie is no masterpiece and no piece of shit, you can like it or dislike it depending on the context in which you watch it.
In my case, "The First Wives Club" appeared on TV one Saturday night when I was at home with some friends. We were trying to make one of us feel good after having a terrible argue with his boyfriend. And just when we were out of words, this modest and pretty silly film started.
It IS a chick flick. It succeds in making us girls feel good about ourselves without caring much about those stupid guys that hurt us and focusing in our girlfriends.
And, since that was exactly what we were needing at that time, I'm giving it 3 and a half stars. It was the right movie, at the right time, in the right place.posted 446 days ago -

Red Dragon
by MagaliI fell so much in love with "The Silence of the Lambs", and specially with Hannibal, that, after watching it, I felt a sudden urge to see the other films of the saga. So I thought: "Hey, why not watching "Red Dragon"?"....... big mistake!!!!
I don't know whether this film is not great or I was comparing it with the masterpiece of the story, but I didn't like it that much.
I think that Edward Norton and Ralph Fiennes are very good. And there are some really good scenes, specially one near the end. But there's also a nonsensical one - that is, for me, a very stupid mistake.
I also wanted to see more of Hannibal, but, as I've been told, he doesn't appear that much in the book either. So I guess that was ok.
I think it's worth seeing, but the key is not expecting too much. There's no other like "The Silence of the Lambs"posted 446 days ago -

Oldboy
by xGaryDaesu Oh is a drunk and a philanderer, but otherwise a fairly typical husband and father. That is until one day he is kidnapped and imprisoned in a cell for 15 years with only a TV set for company and no word of explanation. One day he wakes up on the outside with only a wallet and a phone, and he sets out on a single-minded quest to find out why he was imprisoned and extract bloody vengeance on those responsible. The second part of the Vengeance Trilogy by Chan-wook Park, Oldboy is a bizarre and brilliant film. It constantly wrong foots you and messes with your perceptions, and contains the kind of revelation that makes the kind of so-called plot "twists" of most films look gimmicky and inane. This is the kind of film that blows you away and makes you realise you've been watching the WHOLE THING from the wrong standpoint. As for Min-sik Choi's performance, astonishing is the only word for it...the way such intense emotions and motivations are constantly shifting without ever feeling contrived or forced is just spellbinding. It combines art and extreme violence in a way that reminded me of A Clockwork Orange, but BETTER. It's also stylistically on the same level as Fight Club and is absolutely riveting from beginning to end. A totally flawless modern masterpiece.

Death at a Funeral
by MagaliWell, comedies are not really my cup of tea. I tend not to find them very funny. The only comedies I like are the Argentinian and the British. This is British, that's why I saw it in the first place. Though, as usual, people laugh a lot while I just smile because I find some scenes amusing but never hilarious! For eg,: the short guy is not thaaaat funny! I don't know whether my friends overreact or I'm just very hard to please.
Overal, this is nice, very nice. Far better than those stupid American comedies with stupid actors in them.
For those of you who liked this, keep on trying to find "Esperando la carroza" (THE Argentinian comedy), which is, for me, better, and very much the same style.posted 476 days ago -

My Blueberry Nights
by TonyWatch out for this one-it'll singe your visual cortex with blueberry blue.It resonates with a languid, almost Lynchian residue.I usually don't get moved much by love stories, but this one had some subtle workings going on underneath. The cinematography rocks as well!!

I recommend you see...Its historical accuracy is dubious at best, but hey. It's a movie, not a documentary!
My Darling Clementine
by xGaryJohn Ford's My Darling Clementine is one of the earlier treatments of the Wyatt Earp story and it's still one of the best. Henry Fonda is as rock solid as always as the reluctant law man but it is the supporting cast that adds the necessary spice to the story, particularly Walter Brennan who shows there was far more to him than the grizzled old caricature that became his trademark as the callous and black hearted patriarch of the Clanton clan. Victor Mature's limited thespian talents actually work here as his Doc Holliday is as stone-faced as he is self destructive and Linda Darnell is sex on a stick as the extremely noirish and fiery tart with a heart. There is also some great night time photography adding to its noirish feel and the final showdown is realistically atmospheric. It may lack the grit and spectacle of post-Leone westerns but for those who enjoy a traditional tale of the old west, this is an enduring classic.
