Graham Hess: Lionel Prichard and the Wolfington brothers are back. Merrill: It's time for an ass-whupping. Graham Hess: This is not an intelligent way to approach this. Lee is a friend of mine. This is his son. Merrill: Yeah, we'll be doing Lee a favor. All right, listen, we both go outside, move around the house in opposite directions. We act crazy, insane with anger, make them crap in their pants, force them around till we meet up on the other side. Graham Hess: Explain "act crazy". Merrill: You know, curse and stuff. Graham Hess: You want me to curse? Merrill: You don't mean it. It's just for show. What? Graham Hess: Well, it won't be convincing. It doesn't sound natural when I curse. Merrill: Just make noises, then. Graham Hess: Explain "noises". Merrill: Are you gonna do this or what? Graham Hess: No, I'm not. Merrill: All right, you want them stealing something in the house next time? [outside light comes on] Merrill: On the count of three. One... Graham Hess: All right. Merrill: two... three! Graham Hess: Ahh! I'm insane with anger! Merrill: We're gonna beat your ass bitch! We're gonna tear your head off! Graham Hess: I'm losing my mind! It's time for an ass-whupping! [Merrill and Graham meet each other] Graham Hess: I cursed. Merrill: I heard. [rustling on the roof] Merrill: How did he get... Are you sure this is Lionel Prichard? 2)V FOR VENDETTA
V: [Evey pulls out her mace] I can assure you I mean you no harm. Evey Hammond: Who are you? V: Who? Who is but the form following the function of what and what I am is a man in a mask. Evey Hammond: Well I can see that. V: Of course you can. I'm not questioning your powers of observation I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is. Evey Hammond: Oh. Right. V: But on this most auspicious of nights, permit me then, in lieu of the more commonplace sobriquet, to suggest the character of this dramatis persona. V: Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. [carves V into poster on wall] V: The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. [giggles] V: Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V. Evey Hammond: Are you like a crazy person? V: I am quite sure they will say so. But to whom, might I ask, am I speaking with? Evey Hammond: I'm Evey. V: Evey? E-V. Of course you are. Evey Hammond: What does that mean? V: It means that I, like God, do not play with dice and I don't believe in coincidences. 3)THE GREAT DICTATOR
A Jewish Barber: I'm sorry, but I don't want to be an emperor. That's not my business. I don't want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone if possible; Jew, Gentile, black man, white. We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other's happiness, not by each other's misery. We don't want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone, and the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way. Greed has poisoned men's souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge as made us cynical; our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery, we need humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost. The airplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men; cries out for universal brotherhood; for the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world, millions of despairing men, women, and little children, victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. To those who can hear me, I say, do not despair. The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish. Soldiers! Don't give yourselves to brutes, men who despise you, enslave you; who regiment your lives, tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel! Who drill you, diet you, treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder. Don't give yourselves to these unnatural men - machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines, you are not cattle, you are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts! You don't hate! Only the unloved hate; the unloved and the unnatural. Soldiers! Don't fight for slavery! Fight for liberty! In the seventeenth chapter of St. Luke, it is written that the kingdom of God is within man, not one man nor a group of men, but in all men! In you! You, the people, have the power, the power to create machines, the power to create happiness! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. Then in the name of democracy, let us use that power. Let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world, a decent world that will give men a chance to work, that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfill that promise. They never will! Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people. Now let us fight to fulfill that promise. Let us fight to free the world! To do away with national barriers! To do away with greed, with hate and intolerance! Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men's happiness. Soldiers, in the name of democracy, let us all unite! Hannah, can you hear me? Wherever you are, look up Hannah! The clouds are lifting! The sun is breaking through! We are coming out of the darkness into the light! We are coming into a new world; a kindlier world, where men will rise above their hate, their greed, and brutality. Look up, Hannah! The soul of man has been given wings and at last he is beginning to fly. He is flying into the rainbow! Into the light of hope, into the future! The glorious future, that belongs to you, to me and to all of us. Look up, Hannah. Look up! ![]() Don't click here! |

Speed Racer (2008)
PG
Cars look cool , Colors look vivid & impressive , with Eye-popping special effects. But are they everything what this Movie is about? The Answer is unfortunately Yes. The new Wachowski flick is nothing but an eye candy. Forgettable plot, weak characters, overacted Reporters, yet another failure for Warner Bros.
Son of Rambow
PG-13
A powerful tale of friendship, dreams & family matters. The story is based in England of the 80s , where young Will , a shy , quiet , artistic & religious boy unexpectedly befriended with Carter, a neglected youngster from their school. Later they became blood brothers when they decided to make Home made action Movies on their own, using their own equipments .
Those sudden things completely changes the young boy's friendships, life & families ,making the weak becoming strong & once the useless life of Carter became with hopes & loves.
Honestly, I was blown away by the performances of those new comers , as it was a breath of fresh air . After all, this is an innocent family adventure stuff which will be titled classic in years forward .
Iron Man
PG-13
2007 has been a cheesy year for Superhero movies, starting from Spidy 3 to Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider, blah blah blah. & now 2008 opens with this fun-filled, action-packed, fit for the whole family kind of Superhero Movie,& yes, it's Iron Man.
Marvel's last but not the least super hero is unexpectedly fit for a cinema ride, while big name Fantastic Four is still struggling in the mud. The plot is unnatural & imaginative but it does go well with the characters & origins.
The CGI, lightning effects , Robert Downey Jr. everything is needless to say hot.Extra props must be given to Gwenth Palthrow, sound effects, & the Afghan war zone show-down cos they surprises me with full potential.
Although this Iron Man's beginning is no nearer as great as Batman Begins , it's still a good superhero movie to begin a summer. Hope the upcoming Hulk will be like this too.
The Forbidden Kingdom
PG-13
This is the first ever Jet / Jackie Movie & it worked out pretty well, both critically & domestically and among fans. Thumbs up for Rob Minkoff who's on a way to convert Lion King into the Monkey King.
The story is loosely based on Chinese forever told Legend Su Wukong. They added up the American dude not only to break through the western markets but also to deliver a nice east-west combination on screen. Only, they solved the language problem by letting them speak both Chinese & English, lol.
The more the movie went deeper, the better the fight scenes became. 10 mins+ Jet Li Vs. Jackie Chan fight scene made audiences a bit of satisfaction as it had never ever been seen anywhere.
As for the CGI part, well this is the kind of way which the kung fu Movies must be made. Not as many as Stephen Chow or as nothing as Donnie Yen. As Lord Buddha's saying "Always use the middle way", & this is the Way. Hoping to see more of JJ stuff XD
Street Kings (The Night Watchman)

The Cast-Keanu Reeves, Forest Whitaker , Hugh Laurie, Chris Evans & many other familiar casts, The Actors are needless to say awesome, Let's look at the crew.....David Ayer, the writer who brought U great cop Movies like Training Day, S.W.A.T. The Movie itself? Well..... as for a Keanu fan, it was quite a fun ride.
Keanu plays as a LAPD veteran Tom Ludlow, who was stuck between the unexpected murderer of his ex-partner Cop, Washinton. It's been a year to wait strong black & white characters fighting on screen in both physically & psychologically since 2006's Inside Man.
If you wanna catch cool "bang bangs", & good performances from Hollywood's top badasses, or if you're a die heard Keanu fan, this is the one not to be missed,or else..... don't waste your precious time,This is not another Training Day.
El Orfanato (The Orphanage)

Although the Movie may not be the Pan's Labyrinth of 2007,it can easily be included in one of the best Horror Movies ever made. The story is needless to say interesting, twists & turns looks stylish & original, the actings, the cinematography, the music......this Movie can guarantee you everything you could ever get on a good Horror Movie.
The fact that makes this Movie very stylish & scary is that they made everything as realistic as possible. The ghosts & unnatural events can only be seen as sudden images,& believe me they'll give a full description on the appearance of that masked kiddo.
Overall, the Movie is like The Shining & The Ring mashed up in a very pleasant way.I'm seeing a bright future for Spanish cinema, can't wait to see more of Guillermo stuff.

Ok...let's start with the Cast,Honestly....Nobody has done anything to a bunch of A-List Stars to Kill each other, blow each other's heads,& got stripped to the max.Then.....Frank Miller....when that biggest Comic creator met Mr.ICanDo a.k.a Robert Rodriguez, that's the birth of the favorite Nightmare. What's good of this Movie is that is stays 100% true to the comics. Some of my friends even checked the Video plugs when they first buy the pirated DVD,my sis luv the big fat kill part starring Clive Owen.Cast are great, performances are priceless, plots are good, blood to the Max,fun for the whole family...no...just kidding.Heard the Pirate's gonna join the cast, there'll be more female audiences I guess

The Golden ring+Tennis Ball scene is the most cleverest creation of this movie.Music is Tuned up with Opera Songs & Director Woody Allen make everything old school which is cool.

Atonement
by GaryAfter hearing a few less than glowing reviews I was a bit jubious about this one, but it turned out to be pretty beautiful. An epic love story with some beautiful cinematography and solid acting throughout. Tragic and endearing in a very British way. Perhaps overrated and the sneaky ending was a very dirty trick, but the hopeless romantic in me saw past all that. And the Dunkirk scene.... WOW! Briony truly deserves to be one of the most hated characters in recent movie history. Wish I'd read the book first.
The Oscar contender that couldn't is actually a pretty amazing little British film that turns ageing romantics like me to mush.

Iron Man
by IlyaIron Man (2008)
Directed by Jon Favreau
Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges"Tony Stark: [reading the newspaper] Iron Man? That's kinda catchy"Tony Stark is a billionaire industrialist and genius inventor who is kidnapped and forced to build a devastating weapon. Instead, using his intelligence and ingenuity, Tony builds a high-tech suit of armour and escapes captivity. When he uncovers a nefarious plot with global implications, he dons his powerful armour and vows to protect the world as Iron Man.
Iron Man was touted to be a good film from the start, but boy; I didn't expect it to be "that" good. It is primarily good because of its stunning special effects. Now, those who are familiar with Iron Man comic book or even those who have seen the TV series will know what I am talking about. For others who are not familiar with Iron Man, this film has a strong storyline that shows briefly how Tony Stark came up with the Iron Man suit and why did he actually decided to create it. You will also see a man who decided to change his life, in order to fight against evil and help all those innocent people from getting killed. Sounds familiar? Yes, the story is not original but it is well delivered.
The plot is a typical superhero story; a guy who uses his talent for doing something completely irrelevant or something that only makes his life better, (creating weapons of mass destruction and selling them worldwide in this case) but after a terrible situation that put his life in danger opened his eyes, and so he decided to use his knowledge by helping humanity and protecting civilians from the bad guys. Only one difference to most of the other super hero flicks: just like Batman, Iron Man doesn't have any super powers. He is a normal man, only he is extremely good at machinery and engineering. He is a genius. So, while Tony Stark has being attacked by terrorists, he was brutally injured by his own weapon during the attack. This made him realise that he wasted his life by creating something that takes lives of innocent people. After the incident, he constructs a suit which will help him escape from his kidnappers an later on; he will create a much better version of this suit, in order to protect people around the world. But unfortunately for Tony, there is someone that wants to stop him from helping people, someone who only wants to earn money by causing other people deaths, and therefore Tony Stark must face this person and stop him from killing him and everyone else.
Robert Downey Jr. Plays Tony Stark. A thing about playing a superhero in the movie like Spider-Man or X-Men is that people will remember you for your role, no matter how well or bad you performed in this movie. Robert most certainly will be remembered as one of the best actors to play a superhero. He did ever so great; he acted as a typical jackass millionaire at the start of the movie, but later on he changed, he became more responsible and grateful for things he could have achieved if he was using his knowledge in a good way. He was witty, hilarious and the way he said all of his dialogues, all that was fantastic. He handled the role well, even though he is older that Tony Stark. Gwyneth Paltrow played Tony's fiancé Pepper Potts. She and Robert had a lot of mixture between them, they looked great together and their dialogues were often hilarious yet romantic. Terrence Howard played James Rupert Rhodes, a close friend of Stark and his future superhero partner War Machine. Terrence were good in his role, even though at times he looked a bit out of place, he was generally fine and even funny at times. Even though we don't get to see him as War Machine, we get a hint that he will definitely use the suit in the next Iron Man movie. Finally, Jeff Bridges plays Obadiah Stane, Tony's business partner and later his primal enemy of this film, Iron Monger. Jeff is extremely good as a bad guy, I can guarantee that you will dislike his character after the first time you see him in the movie.
Most of the superhero movies are famous for its special effects but this one had more than that. The dialogues were really good; they are brilliant throughout the whole movie. Cinematography is great, the light mixture is good and it is easy to watch the whole movie without moving your eyes away from the screen.
Overall, Iron Man movie is a pleasure to watch, especially on the big screen. While most of the superhero movies don't have what it takes to be called "super", Iron Man rose beyond expectations and quite easily became one of this year's best superhero movies. A massive credit to John Favreau for creating this stunning film that can be truly remembered as one of the best in its category.
Review Date: 11th of May, 2008.Hey, you all probably seen this by now,and so have I (about a week ago), but I didn't had time to do a review straight away, and so i only finished it now. Definitly the best superhero I have seen so far, after Batman Begins of course. My mate at the ciname said after the film finished : " surely there is no film better than Iron Man in its category", on which I replied: " just you wait until The Dark Knight"...

Dick Tracy
by HugoDICK TRACY (1990)
directed by Warren Beatty
starring Warren Beatty, Al Pacino, MadonnaDick Tracy: «Is the enemy of my enemy my friend, or is the enemy of my friend my enemy?»
Pat Patton: «Tracy, what'd you say?»
Dick Tracy: «Or enemy of my enemy my enemy?»
Pat Patton: «What'd he say?»
Dick Tracy: «The enemy of my enemy is my enemy.»
Sam Catchem: «He said the enemy of his enemy is his enemy.»
Pat Patton: «Oh.»
Created back in 1931 by Chester Gould, Dick Tracy is one of the earlier comic book «superhero» to appear into the American culture. No special powers and no special costumes, except maybe his hat and suit, but his attitude was what made him special. He was smart, incoruptible and committed to his job.In 1990, Warren Beatty decided to adapted the comic strip into a feature film. The final result is a mix betwee Tim Burton's Batman and Brian DePalma's The Untouchables.Visually speaking the film is absolutely stunning, using edgy visual effects looking half realistic and half cartoonish. Vittorio Storaro's cinematography is amazing as usual and will all those colors, he and Beatty managed to capture that comic book essence that almost no one else has, not even in the recent trend of superhero movies.
Beatty is alright as Tracy, the detective who doesnt have time for his girlfriend cause he absolutely want to catch Big Boy Caprice, the new mobster leader. He also has to look after a homeless kid he saved from an abusive man and his attraction from a beutiful lady that could help him catch the gangster.
The cast of the film is impressive, even big names play samller role. Al Pacino is amazing as the big boss, Dustin Hoffman is hilarious as Mumble, hs name says it all. Charlie Kosmo is in the right tone of annoyance as the kid and Madonna is a bit annoying but she looks good.
That film is all style over substance, but even in the comic strips Dick Tracy was never anything too complicated in terms of character study, and for that reason Beatty's film is quite faithful to the source material. Especially when comes the bad guys with those grotesque faces reminescent of the drawings in the strips.
Dick Tracy is a film that capture the comic book style perfectly, wether in its tone or in its visual qualities. I think its not for everyone's appreciation but I do dig those colors, cool settings and weird visual effects. Plus Danny Elfman's music can never hurt a film. I believe its one of the finest comic book adaptations that wasnt made in the 2000's.
One of my personal favorite comic book based films. Wont please everyone, but it sure pleases me.

Prom Queen
by BrianI guess I have to watcha gay movie every once in a while or the gay mafia will revoke my membership. Trust me, it's in the bylaws.
Well, in any case, too bad I chose Prom Queen...
It's comically stereotypical, cheesy and very Disney Channelesque, and not in a cute way. And what's worse, for a movie that's only four years old, it's woefully dated, even the stereotypes.
Ya, I guess it has somewhat of a good message -- but that's about its only redeeming quality.
Good thing I didn;t pay anything to see this.Avoid this.

27 Dresses
by GaryCheesy, girly and very sickly sweet. As romantic comedies go, it's nothing special and seems to drag a bit at times. The laughs are scarce and while there are lots of beautiful people to look at, it never truly engaged me (no pun intended). Heigl is gorgeous and really does show some glimmers of a natural, fresh and thoroughly delightful comedic talent. And even she couldn't stop me feeling ever so slightly nauseous throughout. So cute and fluffy, it was bound to be less than substantial. Absolute chick flick and guys.... you have been warned.
Well, you get what you expect. Anyone with at least one testicle might have a hard time tolerating this. Even MY wife thought it was too girly. Nuff said!

The Golden Compass
by GaryWhat's going on?!?!? Seriously! Since LOTR, these fantasy rip offs have been spawned pretty regularly and this one won 'Best Visual Effects'? Okay, there are lots of effects and it shows. Looks nice, but sadly, that's at the expense of story, character development, acting and well .... almost anything interesting. Dakota Blue Richards was great in the lead and the bears were nice to look at, but one of my favorite genres is slowly being killed by vague adaptations of only moderately memorable novels. Sorry, it looks nice, but that's all.
I should probably start a conversation on this (since I feel a bit strongly about it), but why did this win 'Best Visual Effects'?
'Pirates 3' and 'Transformers' were equally impressive, and they had something that resembled a story!
Looks nice, but in my humble opinion, the best effects are those you don't notice. These effects scream "Give Me An Award!!!".posted 3 days ago -
