Okkay Warner (okkaywarner)

ehh, I guess I'll probably see it eventually.

this is definately one of miyazaki's more kid-oriented films. it is basically a strange vision of The Little Mermaid story with a fishy princess falling for a human. the characters are younger, though. the object of Ponyo's love is a sweet little boy who finds and cares for a funny little fish he finds. Like most Miyazaki movies there is no real villian here which I think ads a richness to the story but makes the ending conflict feel anticlimatic. in the end I would have to say that this is not my favorite Miyazaki movie at all but it is still very good! it feels like it works beautifully as a bunch of wonderful moments more than as a whole. The world created is a beautiful place though the actions of some of the adult characters are, at times, difficult to understand. the film is beautiful and childlike above all.
