Cinema Paradiso (Nuovo Cinema Paradiso) (1988,  R)
Cinema Paradiso (Nuovo Cinema Paradiso)
Let me state, first of all, that I believe it's a beautiful movie, to which every hearted movie junkie can love and appreciate.
The plot's simple: a boy falls in love with movies, and develops his love throughout time, while keeping a beautiful friendship with the projectionist of the local movie theather. The magic of this film is the charm of getting identified with the characters, their happiness and their sorrows, and their ultimate loyalty to cinema.
Besides a tender story, which balances humor and nostalgia, there's the gorgeous score by Ennio Morricone, (my favorite of his), which has the magic of supporting the image and story. This is a wonderful celebration to cinema, and honors everything that makes me stay in love with movies.

Good Bye, Lenin (2004,  R)
Good Bye, Lenin
This little film reminds me of what I'd love about movies everytime I see it.
The film has a nice, sold script with a really interesting story and witty humor. It's also a good look to the wild times Germany went through thanks to the sociopolitical changes right after the fall of the wall and the reunification of both West and Eastern Germany.
The performances were awesome, everyone did their best and showed great capacity at acting, specially Daniel Brühl. The movie is also blessed with the gorgeous score by Yann Tiersen., and by a wonderful editing.
Really really really recommendable, and I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes from the movie:
"The country my mother left behind was a country she believed in; a country we kept alive till her last breath; a country that never existed in that form; a country that, in my memory, I will always associate with my mother."

Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari. (The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari) (1920,  Unrated)
Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari. (The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari)
What's amazing from this little german silent jewel is the whole solid scipt and the technical and visual effectss. Besides, it has one of the very first twists ever in cinema, and the whole movie's quite creepy and cool. Yeah, I know I'm commiting tons of judges of value and all, but I just loved it.

10
The Edukators (Die Fetten Jahre sind vorbei) (2005,  R)
The Edukators (Die Fetten Jahre sind vorbei)
The very first achievement of this movie is the intelligent script that presents us compleate and deep characters, and mature language and dialogs. The script also presents the two sides of the main issue on the film: while the young characters, (played by Daniel Brühl, Stipe Erceg and Julia Jentsch) defend the ideal of social equality and that capitalism is the main cause of all the world's problems, the old character, (played by Burghart Klaussner), defends the idea that capitalism is still necesary for a comfortable lifestyle, and for protecting the people one cares about. Ideal to leave you thinking, the film also has very nice performances, and the photography's amazing. It's entretaining, but also gives you a strong, clear message.
11
Snatch (2001,  R)
Snatch
Brilliant script along with great performances. It's full of energy, and it's awesome for some good laughs, since ti contains some bitter and cynical sense of humor.

A Very Long Engagement (Un long dimanche de fiançailles)
Aaawww....
This is such a beautiful film. It has the charm of combining a love story and a war flick effectively. The film has a gorgeous photography and score, as well as convincing performaces. Even though it's a bit slow at times, it kept my eyes on the sceen all the time.
Charming and amazing.

El Orfanato (The Orphanage) (2007,  R)
El Orfanato (The Orphanage)
"Un dos tres, toco la pared. Un dos tres, toco la pared. Un dos tres, toco la pared......"

Excellent!
The script is very well built, and it makes the suspense amazingly effective. The photography's beautiful, and the performances are both good and creepy. Geraldine Chaplin did really gave me some creeps, and the little boy with the mask on caused me one of the deepest sadness I've had in the last year, (counting all '07).
At the end, it's a very enjoyable movie, both creepy and sad, yet amazing. One of the best ghost stories I've seen in years, if not the best.
15

Dr. Strangelove Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964,  PG)
Dr. Strangelove Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
OMG.
This is an amazing film, which can present the state during the Cold War effectively and still laugh about it!!
Seriously, I couldn´t stop laughing, or at least remove the huge grin on my face.
This movie has the charm of an awesome script, and performed brillantly. A big cheer for Peter Sellers for his amazing performances, and for giving life to one of the coolest characters ever, Dr. Strangelove.
It´s a chilling ride, an amazing combination of suspense political thriller with an intelligent comedy.

Thesis (Tesis)
Amazingly directed, great edition, and a really nice plot and acting. Violence as a problem in media is a very delicate issue to aboard in any kind of project, yet here it's well treated. A great film, made with maestry. Might not scare that much, but it's still impressive.

25
My Life Without Me (2003,  R)
My Life Without Me
Intereting story, great performances. The photography and illumination fits perfectly the story, and the music matches up the movie's mood. The story develops fast, it makes its point without getting overdramatic, yet goes at the right pace, the right time to express. Well structured, and just as tender as it can be, without getting into a depresive state.
Really good movie, with the rights darts of feeling at the right time.

Elephant (2003,  R)

it's elegant, but crude...
what scares me is that it's very realistic...

Death Proof (Grindhouse Presents) (2007,  R)
Death Proof (Grindhouse Presents)
Amazing!
This movie kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time, and it has the charm of presenting two sets of stories with many really interesting characters. The movie mixes the classical Tarantino-like dialoogues, along with great action and a cool soundtrack. Not only that, it's presented with a nice edition. Even though it's a little bit predictable, it never stops being funny and entretaining.

Hang up the chick habit, hang it up daddy, or you'll be alone in a quick...

Roman Holiday (1953,  Unrated)
Roman Holiday
Great movie with a bittersweet ending...
Really, what a good movie. Nobody but Hepburn could possibly had made a better characterization on the Princess Ann. She's just great, and very believable.
loved it! ^^
34
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004,  R)
35
Sin City (2005,  R)
Sin City
Damn good!!

The stetic, the photography, is one of the best I've seen. The use of colors to add ot take away significance or meaning is used correctly, without tiring your eyes or abusing from it.
The multiple stories blend and mix perfectly, and each character is delimitated by their own fears and desires. They're complete characters, every single one of them, which is a great thing to acomplish with so many characters around. Each actor contributed to the cause by forgetting of themselves and become the character.

A revolutionary movie for the way of making films, and a new classic between film noris and guy flicks. And among my favorites, too.
Favorite characters? Marv, Dwight, Gail, and Miho.
36
Batman Begins (2005,  PG-13)
37
Living in Oblivion (1995,  R)
Living in Oblivion
A fantasticly great movie!!
It's really funny, and made me laugh big time. Loved the way DiCillio played with the colors and the writing is very smart.

What 'concerns' me is that I might be in the same situation in a couple of years....
38
The Departed (2006,  R)
The Departed
Where awe meets some!!
39
Little Miss Sunshine (2006,  R)
Little Miss Sunshine
The main charm of LMS is its ability of being compleately bittersweet throughout the whole film. There's this witty, wonderful script, great performances, (which, along with the cruel humor that I love, is the heart of the movie?, and a very nice message at the end, along with such aweseomely crude critics at our modern society. The characters are complex, yet we get to identify with each one of them, and each actor can make them believable and compleately human, which is, at the end, the greatest achievement of this movie.

The Kid (,  Unrated)

43
American Psycho (2000,  R)
American Psycho
This movie's excellent.
It's amazingly written, and Bale gives his best performance EVER.
What more can I say that hasn't been said before?
It has a clear and critic message against society, which might have been specificly to the yuppie culture in the 80's, but it still useful nowadays.
And I really really want to read the book!!
44
The Godfather (1972,  R)
45
The Dark Knight (2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight
Seen it twice, by now.
Unbelievable. I can't find th words to express my utter admiration and awe after seeing this movie. Out of the cast, the best performance was of late Heath Ledger, who gave the act of his life, being a cynical, funny criminal known just as The Joker. I think that's what impressed me the most, I don't know. The rest of the perfromances were solid enough to keep up with Ledger, and you can tell everyone gave their best to make this film a masterpiece. The direction was amazing, and the script's twisted and creepy, and all the characters are compleate. Personally, I adored the chemistry between the Joker and Batman, being the two complementing each other. The script has the charm of presenting moral and philosophical dilemmas.
Definitevely, the best Batman movie ever.

And remember, what doesn't kill you makes you...stranger...

Donnie Darko (2001,  R)
Donnie Darko

It's amazing!
The score was so cool, and the ambient created are so familiar.

One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest

51
Pulp Fiction (1994,  R)
Pulp Fiction
Cool!
The first thing that amazed me was the characteristical Tarantino dialogs, and the interconnections in the stories.
The acting was excellent by most fo the cast, and that's a pretty nice one there.
The script managed to present different stories, and present the irony of life itself. Everything's interconnected. The little details, and the amazing dialogs, are the strongest part of the movie.
And, O, looved the musical selection.

American History X (1998,  R)
American History X
Amazing, cruel, and sometimes hard to watch.
Yes, Edward Norton gives a brilliant performance, and, yes, the script's genious as well.
The photography's awesome, loved the combination of black and white with color.
What really surprised me is that the movie rouches universal subjects that affect us all in a way or another one. The hate, the violence is shown in its crudest ways.
I liked that the director showed the topic with no taboos and just as it is. And the best part, (or worst part, depending on how you see it), is that the topic is STILL happening today. I think that's its greatest achievement.
56
The Shining (1980,  R)
The Shining

Nicholson really creeped me out....Kurbick did all in his mighty power as director to scare the guts out of the audience, and he gets his goal perfectly...

This is the kind of vampire movie that stays both thrilling and charming for the rest of eternity!
The costumes and settings are wonderful, there's a nice, solid story (adapted by the author of the original book), and very nice performances, specially by Tom Cruise's enchanting and loveable Lestat. Fascinating and eternal.
