I had high hopes for this movie, but came away quite disappointed.

An incredible film showing the lengths that people will go to and the hardships they will endure for a chance at an American dream. Fear, friendship, and common dreams link people together in an amazingly good first movie by writer/director Cary Fukunaga.

This movie really surprised me with how good it is. I had heard lots of good things, but I was stunned by how much this movie affected me - I am still running it over in my mind almost a week later.

An incredible movie. Extremely well done and beautifully acted. Set in the cold war era GDR, Stasi agents spying on a playwright they suspect of western sympathies. The transformation of the Stasi agent spying on him as he overhears moments of his art, his writing, his music, and his life is amazing to watch. The best movie I watched in 2007. (German-subtitled)
