Visually stunning and with a powerfully sad story, it redeems vampires at the movies. And what is that pool scene???

The closest I know to perfection in filmmaking. The best movie of the 90s.

Samson and Delilah
by JeremyProbably one of the best Australian film ever, certainly one of its most powerful, dealing with the nation's elephant in the room, the indigenous Australians. A harrowingly confronting film about youth, indigenous culture, disadvantage and poverty ultimately turns into a subtle but extremely moving love story. A quietly beautiful film that gets under your skin and shakes you too your core. Particularly powerful from an Australian perspective the film looks hard at a shameful fact of Australian society, without moralizing or pointing blame, the film transcends the subject matter and creates a powerful love story. But be prepared for its slow style and its ability to emotionally drain you.

Chaplin
by QuintoNot so much a film but an excuse to show off a lot of famous faces who never get to do anything at all during the entre 2hrs. and 25 mins. Seriously, for a life full of achievements and revolution as Chaplin's, the movie makes it look that he only really fucked a lot of women and had children like crazy. As big of a missed opportunity as a biopic could ever be. Wait, I remembered something I did love: Instead of having Downey, Jr. and the other do second-rate imitations of Chaplin's work, they instead show the actual footage from his movies. I thought it was a nice thing to do and fit really well with the movie.
Only Todd Haynes should make biopics.

Up
by QuintoWell, duh, it's Pixar. Of course it was going to be funny, sweet, fun and make me cry all day long. It has such beautiful messages, lively characters and splendid animation I couldn't have asked for a better time at the movies. I only complain about the 3D because I've always found it more distracting than engaging.
Do not dare miss this movie.

I recommend you see...Kate Beckinsale is one tough she-hombre (shombre?) in this flick from director Rod Lurie, who also made The Contender. Vera Farmiga is also pretty badass. Check it out if you get a chance.

I Spit on Your Grave (Day of the Woman)
by QuintoSo, the thing with exploitation films is you have to make the rest of the movie as interesting as the scenes that are being exploited. Sure, the rape(s) and the violence and the blood was a LOT of fun, but sometimes the scenes in between were like... I don't really know what happened in between.
Pretty solid if you like rape and vengeance.

State of Play
by QuintoYou can obviously tell some of the things that are going to come along, but the dynamic cast, great performances and the fast pace the story keeps makes it all an intriguing movie very much worth the watch.

Ā l'intérieur (Inside)
by QuintoStraight up horror film and only that. It doesn't bother trying to create an elaborate story or motive for why the killer is stalking this woman, but it doesn't matter. The movie generates suspense and has enough blood to satisfy the thirsty.
Rosemary's Baby meets Hershell Gordon Lewis.

Roger Dodger
by QuintoCampbell Scott's character may be annoying, but you have to admit he gives a pretty terrific performance. The rest of the cast shines well also, especially Jesse Eisenberg (the original Michael Cera, thank you very much) and everyone has great chemistry with one another. Interesting, though not as insightful as it thinks and very enjoyable. Also, Elizabeth Berkley sure went to great lenghts to redeem herself and it shows.
Sure, a little misogynistic, but give it a try.

Martyrs
by QuintoIt was hard to sit through most of the time, but it was all worth it. Pascal Laugier has obviously seen many horror movies before and knows how to not only combine all these elements, but make them work in a fresh way that will leave you speechless.
